Fans are stuck with the same old and hate change. Critics are quiet open minded and give a fair score, SWSH and SV were so bad though not even critics could help but score them like shit.
Basically Pokémon maintained an ok “safe” level of quality on the DS/3DS. XY just barely edges out the others probably because there were many gameplay changes between 5 and 6.
Black sitting at a 7 from users is surprising, I guess the fan base is just very vocal.
XY got such a high score because it was the first 3D game.

I'm sick of pretending any post game npc fights is "good content". Sw/Sh is as shit as B2/W2 or your "Frontier" era games.
All those 80's for the DS and 3DS era and they're mostly #1 or in the top 5. Same meta score and Sw/Sh is 79th. What the frick happened with the Switch in 2019? An 80 for the DS gets you #1 and #2, was the DS library that bad?
