>Expectations
I expect that it's not going to be even remotely similar, in either tone or gameplay. I've seen too many "successors" just invoke the old thing to grab old fans. Then again, how popular was EotFS for it to actually coast on old fans? I certainly never heard of it until a dev literally came to /vst/.
To hastily misquoute that one Children of Dune fragment which gets frequently posted everywhere,
there is nothing wrong with groups of adolescent-age males (and females too) engaging with same-sex intimate bonding activites to uphold the morale levels of their unit.
If this was satirical and other factions could comment on the homosexualry it would be fine, but you won't be able to so it won't be fine.
These are the most generic factions I've seen in my life, save for the Neomerican which has the POTENTIAL to be kino, but probably will not be.
These are moronic Beyond Earth-tier factions >Economics guys, who called themselves the 'Ekonomiks' >Ancient order of scientist guys, named 'Sciencos' >This faction is militaristic, they are called "The Military"
Really I blame Alpha Centauri for this and always hated that element of it, but that whole was so well done that idea of breaking factions down to a singular atomic philosophy was also fun.
What should future humans worship then? Abstract concepts?
There is literally no reason to stop worshipping the same old gods in the future.
If you're the sort of person who wants concrete answers to ephemeral issues then borderline schizo "literalist but not literally" interpretation of the Bible, Quran, whatever, hold up in the face of year 10,000 science just as well as they stood up in the face of year 800 science.
I don't know why people get mad at gender shit in sci-fi. Everything about this game looks shit, but people being degenerates in the future is not bad sci-fi. As technology progresses, people are gonna do all kinds of weird shit to themselves. All the classic sci-fi authors cover shit like this at least once. But yeah, I played the demo for this and it was just a bad game anyway.
People with access to super sci-fi tech would doubtless use it to do all kinds of degenerate shit. But they'd also use it to do all kinds of goofy chud shit. When is a sci-fi game going to give me a faction of space Mexicans who used gene editing to turn themselves into aryan supermen and then insist that they've always looked like that? That's the sort of shit people would really do, but sci-fi games conveniently only ever explore the concepts that the devs know will go over well with Twitter liberals.
This UI looks like dogshit. To be honest, the complete and utter schizophrenic mix of titles and names (MBAs being turned the M'bas, neomericans all being Black folk) is really funny. Or the fact that Neomericans wear Prince-esque clothes befitting a pimp.
So, looking at the gameplay itself, this has nothing to do with EotFS. Besides, arguably, the name, this is nothing like the original game. This is way closer to a mix of Stellaris and CK2/3, if you'll forgive my paradoxbrain, than anything else.
>futuristic society >worships a fricking sun
I really hate that modern onions writers lack any education or insight into how things and humans work and just turn everything into another marvelesque garbage
Unironically yeah. In a post-christian hightech society they'd probably worship concepts, worship humanity itself(multiple ways to go about this one), worship intelligence or just become gnostics.
>t. follower of an Abrahamic religion
Must be tough having both literalism and religious orthodoxy being the cornerstone of your religion. But at least explains why you are so moronic and can't wrap your head around other possibilities than the "we've got a sacred book, we take it very serious, and any sort of deviation from the super-specific interpretation of it by my sect is the most vile shit ever".
I really thought that the factions were going to be fragments of old Earth cultures.
But it's muttistanis and the most generic alpha centauri, beyond earth shot ever to be conceived.

Neo-mericans being all black could actually be pretty funny if spun correctly.
I had this game on watchlist, but holy frick it's ugly.
I'm not one to fan over EoFS as it had a myriad of issues, but these butt ugly blurry mystery meat "characters" better be modded out on day 1. They are so bad, it makes me vomit.
The rest comes down to performance and gameplay I guess.
By the way, no way this is going to be released in 2023 or even in 2024.
Emprex isn't even that horrible of a title. I'd accept it as like, the word Emperor and Rex mashed together as a sign of humanity's lost and corrupted knowledge, but instead it's just another Latinx-style thing.
To echo everyone else who actually tried the last demo, yeah it was very very bad. Borderline schizo UI, almost impossible to play. It will be interesting to see how they've reconfigured everything, but I don't have my hopes up.
Also the factions are indeed ass except for Neomerican which is funny as hell and clearly meant to be the player faction, even though most of the parody is unintentional.
I wonder if they'll tone it down. A faction of brown people pretending to be americans, using words without understanding them and sometimes africanizing them, like with M'baas, could be seen by an HR department as bad.
I hope they make it worse, it would be so funny if the only slightly above average part of the game gets removed.
Ok?
The UI already looks bad, with billion clicks to be made to get shit done. Which I guess is true to the spirit of Fading Suns, but that doesn't make it good.
Played the old demo for a bit, the jank was really annoying and kinda hard to figure out what impact things had with the ui but it was strangely addictive. Would be nice with a game focused on internal politics instead of just wars.
I'm intrigued.

Pretty much this. And I remember when EotFS came out and I tried to get it to work
Expectations lead to unhappiness

What the actual frick is that?
>Neomerican
It says it right there in the image. The memes write themselves.
aw frick me, here I was getting genuinely excited for this
>neomerican trying to recretate 21c america with "athletic male bonding rituals".
It's like they're making fun of the mutts and their LGBT obsession.
To hastily misquoute that one Children of Dune fragment which gets frequently posted everywhere,

oof american sisters, what's our response?

Another whiteoid genocide.

isnt that the entire plot of planet alcatraz?
We don't have the processing power to model the capillaries and nervous systems at a cellular level
Honestly this kind of schizo backstory sounds amazing, surely the only reason it's Emprex is because the user here has selected the Body Type C.
These are the most generic factions I've seen in my life, save for the Neomerican which has the POTENTIAL to be kino, but probably will not be.

Jesus Christ, everyone looks fricking horrifying.

Yeah nah, baited into a shit thread. TND upon you.
Might be a good game, idk idc. I wanted muh hexes.
DO NOT REDEEM THE CONVENTIONAL CONSCIENCE

Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
Sun is the only reason life on earth exists and deserves to be worshiped more than any bullshit prophet religions are build around nowadays.

t. LARPer or actual pajeet
I really thought that the factions were going to be fragments of old Earth cultures.

While it's good news, there have been attempts at that that failed. What really helps EOFS is a very soulful setting, I doubt they can copy this
it has nothing to do with eofs, OP is just a moron
>Another generic space sim
>No ground combat
Yeah nah, its nothing like EoTFS
This looks absolutely terrible, wake me when an actual successor to EotFS is being made and not crap like this
I had this game on watchlist, but holy frick it's ugly.

they don't even look racially ambiguous they look like actual sickly gollum-type troglodytes. what the frick were they thinking
Probably Dune inspiration? I don't know.
Emprex isn't even that horrible of a title. I'd accept it as like, the word Emperor and Rex mashed together as a sign of humanity's lost and corrupted knowledge, but instead it's just another Latinx-style thing.
y'all are so superficial lmao
looks aren't everything y'know?
played demo some time ago and wasn't impressed

We wuz Amerikangz
>clearly meant to be the player faction
America saves the day crap but in space. Yay.
>Emperor of the Fading Suns successor
Listen I'm cautiously optimistic about this game, but to try and tie it to EoFS is just stupid
Ok?
