>seems fine
The modern standard for emulation isn't "seems fine", it's "cycle accurate". Very few games are going to be outright broken, but compared side by side a lot of games will have differences compared to real hardware. If you don't care about that then don't worry about it. Still better alternatives, though.
>The modern standard for emulation isn't "seems fine", it's "cycle accurate"
lol what a perky little zoomer you must be
played donkey kong country 2 on the wii yesterday, and the experience felt the exact same as it does on my super nintendo
sounds pretty super duper cycle accurate to me
congrats anon, you probably listen to music on the $2 dollar earbuds you bought at the gas station too while eating canned cheeseburgers
Disagree, DKC feels off compared to an actual Snes, and i use the Super Famicom Wii controller, but apparently it depends on the fork of Snes9x you are using, GC and TX and known for focusing on meme features instead of fixing playability.
>The modern standard for emulation isn't "seems fine", it's "cycle accurate".
Emulators like Snes9x, Genesis Plus GX, mGBA, Nestopia, etc get updates to this day and are still the most common choices for their respective systems due to their good performance-accuracy ratio. Even Near themselves recommended Snes9x for general emulation -- they were in good terms with the Snes9x devs and a lot of bsnes code has been worked into it over the years, such as the audio driver.
>Very few games are going to be outright broken, but compared side by side a lot of games will have differences compared to real hardware.
Yet you don't have any actual example to cite and instead decide to spout fake, cryptic nonsense. Very curious.
>Yet you don't have any actual example to cite and instead decide to spout fake, cryptic nonsense. Very curious. >15 year old forks of inaccurate emulators are accurate because I played a game and it didn't crash
ok anon
no the normal standard for emulation is >does the games play better then original hardware. >do the games run with minimal issues.
if so is fine, cycle accurate gays are cancer and seem more like fanboys of emus that never play the game and use the excuse of "cycle accurate" to defend emu devs. >hygan gets lot of complains >gayboys claim "is cycle accurate so is the best" >emulator have issues and serious slowdowns yet gets defended because "cycle accurate so those things happen on hardware" >proven that certain games have crashing issues on hardware yet those don't happen on hygan. >they use excuse of "you are just using a clone console that's why it won't work". >other emu devs say "cycle accurate doesn't mean sending to trash optimizations, for example you can get a cycle accurate emulator that runs fast while still not requiring high end PC like mgba. >those same emu devs claim that no$gba compared to demume is more cycle accurate then desmume and really optimized because is made on assembly so less hardware requirements compared to desmume. >those emu devs say "an emulator needing a high end PC is just a mockery and nothing else,if your emulator needs a high end PC then you are doing it wrong, same goes for last gen consoles if they need a high end PC they are poorly done becuse current consoles have same components as current PC so it shouldn't be much of an issue to pass those instructions to PC"
as an example based on real info >a normal emu needs a 5 to 10 times stronger CPU then original hardware to run,in snes would be something around 70 Mhz top,to run a cycle accurate emulator you would need a 50 to a 100 times stronger CPU so in snes case would be something around 900 Mhz to 1.6 Ghz yet hygan and bsnes needs higher end PC then those maths. >same applies to any hardware a PS2 emulator should need around 1.2 to 2 Ghz CPU to run yet it won't run 100% speed on those.
Ps1 emulation is okay now (but not fantastic) with Wiistation, cause they introduce a new compiler called "lightrec" based around the Wii architecture.
>Something newer with more controller options must have 240p analogue out by now.
You would think one of the chinese companies would figure out 240p output is a strong selling point but nothing so far.
it'd just be the crappiest budget composite output of some horrifically distorted digital image rendered at god knows what resolution and then brute forced into a 240p signal
The thing is they could just use a halfway decent analogue out setup and cheap out on everything else and have a decent product with high profit margins.
I have OG hardware for most everything the Wii can emulate but I use the Wii specifically for emulating Neo Geo games through Virtual Console injects and I'm not ashamed, since I could never hope to afford a real Neo Geo anytime in the near future.
Meanwhile I use the OG Xbox for MAME since it generally performs significantly better than the Wii does in that dept.
Obviously a MISTer would do arcade games significantly better but that's waaaaay out of my price range and it wouldn't play EVERY arcade game I'd want. Even the fricking Raspberry Pi is ungodly-expensive right now for some reason.
>Even the fricking Raspberry Pi is ungodly-expensive right now for some reason.
Tip for anyone wanting a Pi: never buy it for more than its MRSP, ranging from $35 to $55, depending on the model. Take a look at the list of official resellers, for starters: https://www.raspberrypi.com/products/raspberry-pi-4-model-b/
If anything is out of stock, just wait a few weeks at most. They are constantly resupplied. Third-parties might be a good buy, if the price is right. Do NOT buy from scalpers, they inflate the price.
N64 sucks forever, PS1 used to be experimental and theoretically impossible until lightrec came out and now its slowly but surely becoming pretty good, gba used to be shit with VBA GX, but then mGBA came out and its now pretty much perfect.
the only reason to still use a wii for emulation is that its cheap and easily outputs to a crt
Its ok for nes/snes and master system/genesis but everything else is really lacking, you would think it would be easy to get all the 2nd generation consoles working on it
It's still good but you have to make sure you pick the right emus, which can take quite a bit of curating and testing. Something like VBAGX is dogshit compared to MGBA, for instance, but the former has the prettier UI.`Remarkably the PS1/N64 emus are still being worked on and making progress but generally the pre-5th gen emus work well.
https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Emulators_on_Wii is a decent resource
Yeah I much prefer Cave Story on RA over the actual port on Wii. FBA core is better for Neo Geo than the standalone RxGeo emu too and you can get it to play some heavier games, so it does have SOME uses if you experiment.
Basically you run the roms through a converter that dumps their cache in a folder then run the version of the FBA core that supports virtual memory. This blogpost details it:
https://arcadestrikerblog.wordpress.com/2020/03/02/how-to-run-large-neogeo-games-on-the-wii/
Ps1 emulation is at 68% at this point, many games run well, others just run at 40-50 fps, and some still hangup/dsi crash, but almost every 2D game now works at fullspeed with no dithering, and Tekken 3 and DoA now run (tough Tekken stutters in frame a lot), games like these two now run better with interleaced mode, making games that run on 480i at twice the speed, again, its only been a year since Wiistation was rebranded from one of the gijillion WiiSX forks and only half a year since lightrec was created, so its still in its infancy but looks promising enough, i beaten SOTN, Tekken 3, DoA, Kamen Rider, Ranma 1/2, DBGT Final Bout, among others.
They even added lightgun support via the Wiimote, tough i recommend using 2.4v13 since the most recent v14 has a bug that makes games that support analog controllers not recognizing any inputs if you have your set up in standart controller.
Last I tried it didn't even work well for anything I wanted to play other than LSD Dream Emulator. Can't even play MGS which is like the only PSX exclusive worth a damn, but there's Twin Snakes with the music patch at least
I don't understand why you wouldn't just leave your Wii alone and buy a small form factor PC for emulating if that's what you were interested in. It's neat that you can can do it sure but it strikes me as leaving your Wii kinda shitty and also getting shitty games. If the CRT autism is the reason why then I guess I understand but I still think that's pretty stupid. Nobody who comes over and sees your Wii is going to want to play an NES game on it, they're going to want to play Wii Sports or Mario Kart/Party on it.
How do you create a emunand on usb loader gx? I made the channel and save folders on the root of my sd card and set both custom paths to thier respective folder. Yet, the wii keeps saving wii saves to the wii nand instead of virtual nand?
If you're okay with input lag, audio delay and the occasional synching hiccup then it's fine. As long you you don't venture past 4th gen anyway
I originally got a Wii for this very purpose, easy to hook up to a crt, and quickly shelved it when I realized how off everything felt because of the delay. With modern emulators you can turn on VRR settings, use runahead, and have more horsepower to get the audio delay down to just a couple of frames. Can't do any of that with the wii
You get minor to no input lag using the GameCube ports. You guys meme about it not being worth it past 4th gen, but Not64 actually has has less latency on CRT compared to a real N64.
Given that we unironically have people on this board posting outdated musings and misinformation about emulators on PC, don't expect any better for things like consoles or Android.
can't play a good number of N64 roms even if they were injected into another game. this is why i ended up dropped emulating n64 entirely and bought an everdrive64 to settle it for good.
if you were given one for free it's good sure. otherwise you can just buy a old office PC and add a low end modern GPU like a RX 6400 or whatever Nvidia is offering.
The only decent emulation on Wii is Gamecube. Everything else ranges from trash to feces.
Not op, but how so? I've only tried SNES and gbc on mine on a crt and it seems fine. Even plays msu sound mods for SNES games, they sound great.
How is PS1 emulation?
>seems fine
The modern standard for emulation isn't "seems fine", it's "cycle accurate". You are a subhuma either way, emulatorgay
Leave the wii emulatot enthusiast alone

So he's just a regular bird?

Do you only listen to music at live events? Anything else would be an imperfect experience, and not worth enjoying.

nta Unless you're speedrunning there's little reason to care about cycle accuracy unless it impedes a casual player's experience.
The ones I cited still get updates even on Wii and are pretty accurate. Also
.

Peak ESL babble post
The wii is only above 700mhz. and now it can run more then half of it the ps1 library at full speed.
Take a bath
Ps1 emulation is okay now (but not fantastic) with Wiistation, cause they introduce a new compiler called "lightrec" based around the Wii architecture.
>emulation
it's not emulation though

Because it's not emulation
NintenDont anyone?
not emulation
Wii emulation is only good for native analog output. Everything else about it is objectively terrible.
Yes, yes I do.
Is the wii still the best poorgay with a CRT option? Something newer with more controller options must have 240p analogue out by now.
>Something newer with more controller options must have 240p analogue out by now.

Yeah I actually do need more OP
It's great on CRTs only!
I imagine the Wii, being a GameCube with Xbox-esque performance, is not suitable for emulating anything newer than the SNES.
N64 sucks forever, PS1 used to be experimental and theoretically impossible until lightrec came out and now its slowly but surely becoming pretty good, gba used to be shit with VBA GX, but then mGBA came out and its now pretty much perfect.

Retroarch is mostly mediocre on Wii but you can play Doom and Cave Story with its cores.
Yeah I much prefer Cave Story on RA over the actual port on Wii. FBA core is better for Neo Geo than the standalone RxGeo emu too and you can get it to play some heavier games, so it does have SOME uses if you experiment.
How do you get it to play bigger neogeo games? Do they run well (fullspeed) or they just load?
>fricking RA MAME cant even run caveman ninja/joe and mac at full speed.
>Fricking Joe and Mac
Basically you run the roms through a converter that dumps their cache in a folder then run the version of the FBA core that supports virtual memory. This blogpost details it:
https://arcadestrikerblog.wordpress.com/2020/03/02/how-to-run-large-neogeo-games-on-the-wii/
I tried that and games run slow as shit.
you did it wrong or you are using an SD card
RA can play 32x games through picodrive.

Snatcher with a wiimote in a gun housing is great fun, to be fair.
Why would you use a wii to emulate playstation?
no fricking idea
Last I tried it didn't even work well for anything I wanted to play other than LSD Dream Emulator. Can't even play MGS which is like the only PSX exclusive worth a damn, but there's Twin Snakes with the music patch at least
Wiistation keeps being updated quite a lot, SFEX2p now works at almost fullspeed most of the time and doesnt crash anymore.
240p
although I think the one good emulator for playstation intentionally doesn't output at 240p specifically because people keep asking for it so lel.
Bruh...

my wii quit turning on i think i left it on for a few months. oops. lost 10 years of garbage i had on it from hacking it ages ago.
Just take out the sd card and soft mod a new one
yeah i have a spare wii just laying around i was planning to do this with but i cannot give a shit right now
Whats better, running off a USB 3.0 or an SD card?

Same, but for Saturn and Dreamcast too. Frick dealing with emulation for anything past gen4…. Except psx and gba.
Get a CRT.
I actually prefer both a mix of Wii/PC emulation/real consoles all outputted on my wall through a low latency projector.
>need more?
Yes.
