Which one are you using? I tried a few like zfast lcd but most of them are either too performance-draining, or look kinda fricked up on the little low res screen
What’s the best handheld for 4:3 type console emulations? Eg snes? Ambernic got anything?
My RP2+ is mainly used for old 4:3 consoles, and it works really well for that. I know people absolutely love the Miyoo Mini as well
who cares? let him make his own thread. not like we don't have 20 fricking shitty SEGA threads or N64 threads going at once half the time. besides, everybody in that thread is being a homosexual anyway.
anyway, i had a retroid pocket 2 for awhile and i liked everything about it except for two major issues: one, the lack of a touch screen, and two, my unit had a weird issue where the display would get really bright white on one side. i noticed it happened a lot when i had it sitting sideways in my pocket, and the temperature of the device/room i was in seemed to make a difference. i've seen a few other people have the same issue but i've never got much of a clear explanation on why it happens so i assume it's liquid crystal pooling on one side from gravity because of a screen defect or something. when it was actually usable, the screen was beautiful and i really enjoyed it. any SNES or PS1 games i tried ran flawlessly and i liked the overall feel and build quality. the screen issues became too much though, so i ended up selling it to some moron online for like $150 even though i didnt pay that much for it new, and i used it to watch lesbian porn a few times when my phone was dead (kinda shot i know, but i did cautiously avoid getting any spooge on the device and i thoroughly washed my hands afterwards, plus i did a semi-thorough clean on the device itself before shipping it). i'm gonna buy a RP2+ soon because i heard they added a touch screen and i'm assuming they fixed the issue my had. overall i love these things and they are cool as frick.
Retroid Pocket 2+ is indeed cool as frick. Wasn't super sure about android at first but now that I have it set up it doesn't get in the way and everything works well.
The touch screen is a great addition, not sure about your screen issues but mine is 100% perfect, when the screen is totally black (but still on) you can't see any light bleed. I have heard a few people did have light bleed but they contacted the manufacturer and got a new screen sent out to them or possibly a replacement unit? Not sure which but at least it's doable.
I've also heard that some light bleed issues could be caused by screws on the inside being too tight.

Can't believe people waste money on this chink shit
I got one thinking I'd use it for trips but ended up liking my tablet with controller more because it just runs better. They definitely are neat little devices but not syncing to my cloud drive for saves kills it. I'll just stick to JRPGs on my phone during breaks in the day.
Yeah I totally get what you mean. Cloud syncing is something I'd really like to see for this, I guess since it's Android I probably could set something up with Google Drive or Dropbox, but I haven't tried it.
I have a controller attachment for my iPhone which I love using for Steam Link but I can't get reliable performance with N64 on iPhone due to the lack of core support so that's a bummer.

I just like it to look nice because I like nice things.

If people browse Instagram in public I can play a videogame on a train. Also I only play patrician games
I got a 351v and it is so stupidly comfortable. Then the screen fricked out after 5 minutes. I reseated the ribbon cable and that helped a bit and installed amberelec, but it was still pretty well fricked so I sent it back and my new one should be here in a couple of days. So yeah. Great console. Looking forward to getting a working one because I'll be damed if its not one of the comfiest-in-hand handhelds out there.
Retro Game Corps guy complains that it's uncomfortable because he does not know where to put his fingers but I can't tell because I never used a vertical device
Thats utterly moronic. You hold it exactly the same as an original gameboy with the added ergonomic benefit of being able to rest your index fingers on the shoulder buttons both for comfort and to further support the console. My only gripe is the stick, it seems like it was just an afterthought, totally unnecessary and ruins what would be an otherwise perfect modernised version of the gameboy.

I assume the stick was there just for some PS1 games
listen man im not him but you have to understand, it isnt about the hardware you play games on that creates SOUL, it's about the setting. yeah, playing donkey kong country on a real SNES in your living room is cool. maybe you're home alone that night and it's raining out and you've had a couple brews and the light is just right, and maybe you catch that little feeling you're after, if only for a brief moment. yeah man, that's SOUL. but let me tell you something else: if you buy a 2002 sony vaio desktop at a garage sale for $40 in 2022 and you take it home and set it up late one night, pounding a few shots and smoking a bowl or a bogey or two, and you set up an old distribution of Snes9x and play DKC on there with the sound of rain and wind outside your window... that's SOUL too, man. it's not about how you play the games, brother. it's about how you experience them.

Thinking about getting a Pocket 2+, but a lot of anons have been saying I’m better off getting a 3DS or Vita. Is it true that the Pocket has quality control issues?
More or less. The handhelds have inconsistent emulation past SNES despite what unironic shills like Taki Udon say. While the same thing can be said about the 3DS and Vita, their (non-retro) library sweetens the deal as to extend their range over them. Their QC is far and above too.
Does anyone know if there is an online shop in Europe that sells Retropies and has some warranty / customer service, in case something is wrong with the device?
Cuz I once ordered a chink handheld from china and it arrived broken and it was literally impossible for me to send it back without paying as much as the device itself cost so I pissed away around 100€.
I still play retro games on my 10+ years old vita and it still looks good on it but the lack of saturn/dreamcast emulation is kinda annoying nowadays, planning to get an ayn odin soon, should do the job.
No, they're all underpowered chinkshit garbage marketed at hormonal imbalanced american "men" who have the desire to acquire and showoff chinky toys that do the same shit as their chinkshit smartphone, just worse.
Jesus anon calm down. I just want to play my old gb/snes/genny games when I'm laying on my couch. Virtual buttons suck ass. Have you ever tried to play super metroid with virtual buttons?
No and it is mostly the fault of the N64 hardware design being difficult to emulate. You can kind of get it to work though if you don't mind the occasional slow down.
Don’t listen to these other guys, Retroid Pocket 2+ plays N64 fine, I do it all the time. Anbernic’s new stuff does as well. Basically anything that ships with android will likely play N64 just fine.
Idk about StarCraft because I haven’t tried it but I play OOT on mine and it runs great. OOT randomizer, bunch of Mario 64 rom hacks, plus some harder to emulate games like Yoshi’s Story and Mario Tennis run just fine.
how is the HDMI out? does the image pretty much look comparable to plugging an N64 into a flatscreen via composite or does it look better since its over HDMI?
I got an RG351P a good while ago and I'm not going to lie, the buttons and d-pad could be better. They're better than plenty of fricking chink pads or cheaper handhelds out there and the d-pad is fairly "precise", but I hate how tactile the buttons are and how you can press the whole d-pad down quite easily. Also gamepads with grips have spoiled me clearly, because after a while of playing with this shit my hands get quite tired. I'd buy a grip for the RG351P, but my options are to spend a lot on 3D printing that shit, or spend a lot on shipping fees from ausfalia of all places.
That said, it's the perfect size for me. But I should have definitely waited for something like the RG353P. Don't care about it being "weak", it plays all I want.
bringing this shit on this thread too:
I got this because I had a spare pi zero 2 and wanted a new toy for my birthday and I hate it.
Screen resolution is shit, it's slow to start, buttons aren't great, I see tons of ghosting in games and barely any game scales properly.
I can't believe the miyoo mini is superior in every single way except it has no wifi.
Does anyone have it? Is there ANY game system that looks decent on it?
Yeah it’s not great. The only saving grace is that at that resolution, bilinear filtering actually can make it look better. I recommend turning that on.
I've got an RG351P coming in a couple of days, can you recommend some GBA games to play on it. I had a GBA SP as a kid, but I only had Pokémon Emerald, Firered and Mystery Dungeon, and some Star Wars game I didn't really like but played a hundred times anyway.
Last year I hacked my 3DS and played the GBA Castlevania games on it, but that's pretty much all I've played of it's library.
Megaman Battle Network series
Ninja Five-O
Castlevanias
Drill Dozer
Boktai
Kirby and the amazing mirror
Both Klonoas
Mario Power Tennis
Mother 3
Summon Knight 1 and 2
Sword of Mana
Warioland 4
Zone of the Enders: The fist of Mars
Any good ones? I want to play FFVI but I've heard there's romhacks that combine the best parts of the GBA version with the better music of the SNES version.
Idk but it can run dos box through retroarch if that helps
how is the HDMI out? does the image pretty much look comparable to plugging an N64 into a flatscreen via composite or does it look better since its over HDMI?
I haven’t tried it yet but I think I have one of the cables lying around, I’ll try it and report back
awesome thank you anon
also if there's any way you have a PS2 emulator set up on there and could test out Timesplitters 1 performance for me id really appreciate it. i know PS2 is pushing it but its a launch title so you never know
Alright I tested the HDMI out and it looks as clear as it does on the built in screen, that is to say plenty sharp and not fuzzy like component would be on an actual n64
thanks for reporting back anon, you receive highest commendations. frick if it actually improves display quality im gonna have to get one of these. the idea of having OoT on a handheld (frick the shit-turd 3DS version) that can also be put on a TV is jizz worthy frankly.
Unless you are exclusively interested in 16 bit and below, the only one of these things worth getting right now is the Ayn Odin (or a Steam Deck). Even the RP2+ is a stopgap compared to the Odin Pro.
Haha, i did play Dragon quest 1 on smartphone recently, but usually no,
I'm a researcher and I spend a lot of time in lab/microscope room. I have some time to spare, having a small second phone in my pocket is just easy way to play GBA/ SNES .
I like tactile feedback when I play, i dislike smartphone for emulation, Xperia play have physical pad.

They're not wrong anon. The PSP phone has glaring issues that make it incredibly bad for emulation. Those older versions of Android do not hold up well. Should have used that $50 on a Miyoo.

Chinks are dog eating peasants who steal other country's technology and frick up trying to replicate it. They can't see and can't drive. Their only force projection comes from 1% of their society using the other 99% for slave labor and using the profits to buy up real estate in countries run by homosexuals. Chinese designs are worse than cow shit
I just got a 351P yesterday. I spent this morning setting up Amberelec and my games andplayed FFV for an hour. Then I plugged it in to charge, came back later and unplugged it only for the thing to just suddenly fricking brick itself. It won't turn on, and when I plug it in it makes a hissing noise and then goes clunk and shuts off. I've had it 24 hours and it's already a brick.
Yeah I emailed the place I got it from (A company here in the UK called Droix) and they asked for a video, so I sent them that and now I'm just waiting for them to back to me. Hopefully they just send out a replacement quickly and don't want me to send it back to them since it's useless now anyway.
I’ve defaulted back to my old beat up PSP 2000 so many times in life. Thing plays what I like and it works. I was halfway interested in an Odin but I have a Deck pre-ordered (fingers crossed for getting the email Thursday) and that would be redundant.
But yeah, love my frickin PSP. It is a hassleless little brick I love dearly.
I got my PSP for my birthday in 2008 and it's been chugging since then. I've only needed to replace the stick and the screen. Not bad for 14 years. I just love the damn thing. The native library is surprisingly good, PS1 games run natively (or close enough anyway), and Genesis/GBA/GBC all run well enough to where I don't care. SNES has its moments. The latest snes9x is alright.
Should I get a Vita? Mind you have a Deck on the way so I probably shouldn't. But I dunno. Sounds cool having MGS2/3, Jak, Sly, etc on a platform that small.
>GBA sucks on PSP
What's wrong with GBA emulation exactly? Anything I threw on it worked without issues
Maybe anon wasn't using the best option, I remember being disappointed with GBA emulation using TempGBA (e.g. Metroid Zero Mission not hitting 60 fps and dipping even lower on boss battles) but I switched to UO gpSP kai and it worked much better (60 fps with much less noticeable frame drops).
The point is even some of the cheaper ones like the miyoo mini can do any GBA games with no frameskipping or slowdowns. I personally like the PSP for some PSP and PS1 games, but even PS1 emulation in some of these devices is good enough that it surpasses it (for instance, FFIX choked a little bit on PSP, but the RG351P has no issues there). In the end though it's a matter of which platforms you're going to want to emulate on a handheld.
I'm actually using the most recent (20160527) revision of TempGBA and I didn't have any issues with Metroid while I played it. Though only now I noticed that by default there was frameskipping set to auto, so I can see what Anon meant by GBA sucking.

My main problem with chink handhelds is that they don't seem to be very ergonomic, and build quality seems to be shite. It feels like at most you will spend 1 hr on it at a time before you get hand cramps.
Plus I hate that they shit out new consoles left and right, and somehow each and every one of them has some kind of glaring issue.

They could do better on the build quality, Anbernic being so popular is really because of their pricing and these handhelds not being particularly difficult to put things into. You can easily install a wifi card on an RG351P for instance, but you can also easily break anything. It's much easier to disassemble and reassemble than a PSP however, but that's to be expected given there's just not much inside.
The thing with ergonomics in these is that often the ones that are better at that suffer from some other issue. The RGB10 Max 2 for instance is one that would be more recommended in that aspect, but aside from the pricing which should go down it has overheating issues (this is easily solved, but still) and only one speaker.
I don't have any issues that I truly give a shit about with gbKai or whatever it's called. And the native library is pretty based and I play zero JRRPGs. Not retro so I won't ramble too long but just off the topic of my head: >the burnout games >dissidia >MGS games >god of war games >GTA games >half minute hero >lumines >gran turismo
Those are just what I've enjoyed recently. There are loads more but again not retro
Aren't those just PSP ports with the exception of MGS? Talking specifically about the Vita right.
Obviously the original PSP has an incredibly based library and can run PSOne near natively.

I'm actually talking about the PSP lmao, that's what I thought anon was talking about. Never owned a Vita. I'm a PSP junkie.
I have an RP2+, and I'm trying to figure out why I can't have different boxarts for certain games. For example, I have >1Xtreme >2Xtreme >3Xtreme
All named different, and I downloaded each boxart, but whenever I change screens and go back, the boxarts all match up again (to the last one I set).

So should I just assume that this is a flaw of retroid and not just me fricking up?
Does the RG351MP have a lightweight idiot-proof custom firmware like the Miyoo's MiniUI?
I have no problem updating firmware and applying my own games and roms but I'm a brainlet at configuring RetroArch.
Honestly amberelec does most of that and has most relevant settings easily available without opening RA. Most. Threaded video (retroarch setting) is an annoyance to have enabled when the device can run most of these platforms fine with it disabled and lower input lag that way (not that there's noticeable input lag for most people, but still). Also PPSSPP might need some game specific configuration because it has some speedhacks here and there that could break a game or two. I'm playing Ys I & II chronicles on it and lazy texture cache needs disabling for instance. There's tinkering at times, but not generally.
Also personally I like what miyoo mini does where it shows a lot of platforms in one page instead of having to switch between them, but that's a minor inconvenience because amberELEC is really fast to navigate, specially if you disable pointless animations.
The RG351P was released in September 2020 and the V in March 2021, but that's not a clear indication they're either going to take that long or even release one. I honestly see the 353P as just an ergonomic RG351MP.
If you're used to vertical ones then I guess I'd understand. For me the uncomfortable part of the RG351MP is that it has those corners. The 353P with the handles makes it at least less painful to hold for long periods of time.
Got me one of these little guys recently. Love it to bits. Just make sure you load the OnionOS frontend at the first chance you can so it's all Retroarch based and not chinkshit emulators. Screen is god tier, honestly puts everything other than the Analogue to shame.
I'm more certain it's because they built this for GB/GBC games first and everything else second. There's no other reason for such a bizarre resolution that only makes sense for those consoles.
Hey anons, I’m looking to get my first handheld and am torn between the rp2+, rg351mp, rg353p and finally the miyoo mini. I’ll mostly be playing Pokémon games and fanmade roms and am looking into handheld emulators mainly for the portability and fast forward functions. What do you guys recommend? From what I saw the three first handheld all seem to be quite similar in terms of power with the miyoo falling a bit behind but it is also smaller and should be able to run GB/A games which I will mostly be playing. I am mostly considering the first three for the DS games but am not sure if they are really worth it and, after seeing all the new powerful handhelds that are coming later this year, I figured I’d rather save some more money and buy one of those instead.
I'd personally go with a 351V instead of the MP if it's primarily for Pokemon games.
RP2+ or 353P would probably be better if you want to do DS stuff though.
Any advice regarding the choice between rp2+ and the 353p? I’ve seen almost no one comparing the two even though the price point is pretty much the same.
It's mostly a comfort thing and if I'm not wrong (I'd probably have to look this up) the RP2+ can only work with Android, whereas the RG353P has both android and linux (weird to say that considering android is using linux, but still). The RG351V and MP should be also able to handle DS pokemon games if you're fine with bilinear filtering (at native resolution). At least I threw quite a few DS games at my RG351P and they're working without any frameskipping as long as that's selected, and 2D only games generally even work smoothly at high res rendering (which is sharper). The missing part on these is the touchscreen though, which could be a huge factor depending on which DS titles you play, as drawing with the right analog stick isn't amazing.
Personally even though the RP2+ could probably handle a bit more I'd go with the RG353P.
Thanks anon, I’ll look a bit more into any recent info I can find in regards to the 353 and look into the 351V as well since you recommended it. I’ll try to do some research on the ds scene too and see how much I actually care about it.
No problem. I know it's a known shill, but retro game corps review of RG353P claims for DS at least that the RG353P is more responsive than the RP2+ regarding the touchscreen and it's true that Android does run those games considerably better on both than anything with just linux. If it weren't for the fact I bought one of these recently enough I'd go for the 353 myself.
I am new to this, so this might be a really stupid question. But when I'm emulating a game through Retroarch (Specifically THPS), I get this weird bug where my character shoots up into the sky whenever I come to a full stop. Is this a problem that is unsolvable? I also crash immediately when trying to load up a different game
>A blue vertical line has appeared in the middle of my RG351v screen
What do I do? I've only had it for 3 months and love it, tried both Arkos and AmberElec not a firmware issue, just appeared while I was playing Minish Cap
I was looking over their Loki products yesterday and didn’t notice the Loki Zero. I was manly thinking about getting a Loki mini or mini pro because the other ones seem a bit too expensive. This will also be my first handheld emulator, does anyone that understands how powerful the different Loki versions are based on the specs have any recommendation on which one to get or anything to say about them?
Anbernic is coming with their Win600 but it seems to me they're just not gonna be able to compete against AYN if this is the actual price. Dual-channel RAM is a must these days and the Win600 doesn't even have that. A good chunk of games I play can run on 10 year old laptops.
>win600
single channel ram, no sd card, and no analog triggers while on a higher price. no contest the loki zero wins between the two.
Yeah, the only shame about the loki zero is the release date. I'd bite since my RG351P is giving me issues (fricking stick deadzones being completely wrong makes them only really usable on 8 directions) and I've been looking to play some games that have no chance of getting ported to this.
>does anyone that understands how powerful the different Loki versions are based on the specs have any recommendation on which one to get or anything to say about them?
Youtube is actually your hope for this, one of the big 3 hand held emulation channels, taki, eta, or rgc.
All I really know is that the standard Loki is on par or slightly better than the Steam Deck, so the lower ones will be progressively weaker than that. I saw someone say that the Mini Pro will be good for emulating up to some low end PS3.
I originally had a Mini Pro ordered but I upgraded to a 256GB model just to make sure I can play everything I want to.

I mean, I can see the appeal if you like to play old console games on the go. But I think it's better if you just restore an original handheld for handheld games.
What do you guys think of the Loki Mini Pro vs the current Odin Pro? I’m interested in buying one of these more powerful handhelds and both of them are about the same price.
Well you'll have far more options for games with the Loki since it runs Windows, you could play older PC games on it in addition to all the emulation that the Odin does.
>GBA
Doesn't work well, SNES neither. But for $40 who cares.
Nah bro do your homework, you can instal the miyoo mini os in the v90 and it runs most games flawless, only 3d shit and mode 7 snes shit run a bit off, but overall it's pretty darn good, bought one and so far i've added the custom os, the bigger battery and am designing a 3d printed shell that mimics more the characteristics of the oroginal gba sp; because the original feels a little crappy after a month of use, it literally disintegrates with my sweat lmao
>requires an aftermarket os and shell replacement to be usable >still can't even handle mode 7
Next thread needs an OP post that reads "Just buy a Miyoo Mini FFS"
I have a shitty old bitt boy v1 and los my backup for its firmware. I could never get doom wads working or play ps1 or snes games. Is it even worth fricking with in 2022?
I hate how reviewers always skip over the details with these things. I want a device that boots quickly, like the actual hardware would with a flash cart. Switching a chink handheld on and having to spend a minute loading up a shitty os and flipping through half a dozen menus to find a game totally kills the pick up and play aspect of handhelds.
I would love a feature that let you set a "favorite" rom or system that you could boot straight to by holding an extra button or something like that
Switching games is usually very quick on these things, unless you have a shitty SD card or have a billion games in one folder or something.
Many of them also have a suspend feature, so you just press the power button to put it to sleep and press it again to be right where you were.
The Miyoo mini with OnionOS boots into the menu and straight into a game of your choosing with a certain setting. Other linux handhelds like anbernic ones you can set up to open the favorites menu on boot. The microSD speed is crucial here. Mine is not really fast and with a system like JELOS which is not as bloated as AmberELEC but does almost the same thing it takes about 10 seconds to load, maybe 15 in AmberELEC. In both you can disable animations, which speeds it up even further. The only things that usually boot up slow enough are some ports, like Shovel Knight.
I remember fricking around with Android when I had a GPD XD and getting it to boot under 7 seconds. It involved having root access and changing some things like enabling a fast boot option and disabling all boot animations.
Bit the bullet and ordered a Miyoo Mini which should be turning up early next week. Looks like it'll make a pretty nice Pokemon/2D Zelda machine, just need to find a reasonably priced case for it.
Any specific place you are looking for cases for the Miyoo? Just ordered mine too and was looking to get a smaller one than the one they send the device with.
Btw the pixel grid is a RetroArch shader, not how the screen actually looks, if that’s not obvious.
>shader
Which one are you using? I tried a few like zfast lcd but most of them are either too performance-draining, or look kinda fricked up on the little low res screen
My RP2+ is mainly used for old 4:3 consoles, and it works really well for that. I know people absolutely love the Miyoo Mini as well
What shader? Is that integer scaled?
The LCD shaders should do that just fine. For GBA on an RG351P try LCD3x. GBC on AmberELEC uses some overlays for that by default.
There's already a thread
who cares? let him make his own thread. not like we don't have 20 fricking shitty SEGA threads or N64 threads going at once half the time. besides, everybody in that thread is being a homosexual anyway.
anyway, i had a retroid pocket 2 for awhile and i liked everything about it except for two major issues: one, the lack of a touch screen, and two, my unit had a weird issue where the display would get really bright white on one side. i noticed it happened a lot when i had it sitting sideways in my pocket, and the temperature of the device/room i was in seemed to make a difference. i've seen a few other people have the same issue but i've never got much of a clear explanation on why it happens so i assume it's liquid crystal pooling on one side from gravity because of a screen defect or something. when it was actually usable, the screen was beautiful and i really enjoyed it. any SNES or PS1 games i tried ran flawlessly and i liked the overall feel and build quality. the screen issues became too much though, so i ended up selling it to some moron online for like $150 even though i didnt pay that much for it new, and i used it to watch lesbian porn a few times when my phone was dead (kinda shot i know, but i did cautiously avoid getting any spooge on the device and i thoroughly washed my hands afterwards, plus i did a semi-thorough clean on the device itself before shipping it). i'm gonna buy a RP2+ soon because i heard they added a touch screen and i'm assuming they fixed the issue my had. overall i love these things and they are cool as frick.
How's the N64 emulation on it?
I have the rg51v and it's the only thing I can't run (with retroachevements).
I highly recommend it because it feels like a GBC with a 640x480 resolution
Which shader(s) are you using?
N64 works pretty well on RP2+.
>my unit had a weird issue where the display would get really bright white on one side. i noticed it happened a lot when i had it sitting sideways in my pocket, and the temperature of the device/room i was in seemed to make a difference. i've seen a few other people have the same issue but i've never got much of a clear explanation on why it happens so i assume it's liquid crystal pooling on one side from gravity because of a screen defect or something.
Can't believe people waste money on this chink shit

didn't read but i guarantee you not one retro game was mentioned in this post
no u
The whole thread is related to retro gaming so it counts
damn bro i had no idea you had to mention a retro game in every post to be able to participate. super mario land 2 dx 6 golden coins
Yeah if you run android you can sync to a cloud drive essy. Honestly considering getting an RG353P and running android as its main OS.
Older phone and a controller case will get you better mileage at that point.
Unless you care about aesthetics, (potential) pocketability, or you just want a bespoke device.

First of all

Second, you're gonna look like a manbaby regardless.
I get what you mean, I wouldn't personally use mine in public or anything, I like having mine for use in bed, the car, etc.
I just like it to look nice because I like nice things.
>I wouldn't personally use mine in public or anything
If people browse Instagram in public I can play a videogame on a train. Also I only play patrician games
I hate my RG351M now
I want one but I like playing on my 4k monitor with shaders...
I perfer my rg351m. Im a gbagay so its the perfect device for me personally.
RG351P has the proper aspect ratio to get perfect integer scaling with GBA
Theyre the same thing.
>Not getting the V
Casual
I assume the stick was there just for some PS1 games
i just dont see the point
real hardware for gbc/gba/GG etc is reasonable even if you buy something ~~*modded*~~
the buttons are in the wrong spot GOOD BYE
cya in the next thread. I'll be in your head if you need me.
i need you to care about authenticity
listen man im not him but you have to understand, it isnt about the hardware you play games on that creates SOUL, it's about the setting. yeah, playing donkey kong country on a real SNES in your living room is cool. maybe you're home alone that night and it's raining out and you've had a couple brews and the light is just right, and maybe you catch that little feeling you're after, if only for a brief moment. yeah man, that's SOUL. but let me tell you something else: if you buy a 2002 sony vaio desktop at a garage sale for $40 in 2022 and you take it home and set it up late one night, pounding a few shots and smoking a bowl or a bogey or two, and you set up an old distribution of Snes9x and play DKC on there with the sound of rain and wind outside your window... that's SOUL too, man. it's not about how you play the games, brother. it's about how you experience them.

Thinking about getting a Pocket 2+, but a lot of anons have been saying I’m better off getting a 3DS or Vita. Is it true that the Pocket has quality control issues?
Don’t. Poor QC, planned obsolescence. Chink shit isn’t built to last. That’s why no one’s answered you.
>Don’t. Poor QC, planned obsolescence. Chink shit isn’t built to last. That’s why no one’s answered you.
OK then what retro handheld is worth getting?
More or less. The handhelds have inconsistent emulation past SNES despite what unironic shills like Taki Udon say. While the same thing can be said about the 3DS and Vita, their (non-retro) library sweetens the deal as to extend their range over them. Their QC is far and above too.
>Taki Udon
Hes a 100% shill. I only trust ETA Prime
My RP shifted out and doesn't charge any more. DO NOT buy it. Anbernic (or however it's spelt) is 100x better
What’s the best handheld for 4:3 type console emulations? Eg snes? Ambernic got anything?
RG351V?
don't have any of these handheld emulation devices, but I am interested in that one for just that reason
The RG353P is brand new and is good for 4:3 games
I want this with a bigger screen and RP2+ power levels preferably under $100.
The X18S is that but 160 ish. And less comfy apparently, Has a 5" touch screen though.
This guy shows some decent footage of the miyoo mini
I really want one of these to just have a ngpc stick
Does anyone know if there is an online shop in Europe that sells Retropies and has some warranty / customer service, in case something is wrong with the device?
Cuz I once ordered a chink handheld from china and it arrived broken and it was literally impossible for me to send it back without paying as much as the device itself cost so I pissed away around 100€.
>Retropie
*Retroid Pocket I meant
They only come from China
I still play retro games on my 10+ years old vita and it still looks good on it but the lack of saturn/dreamcast emulation is kinda annoying nowadays, planning to get an ayn odin soon, should do the job.
Can any of these things play N64 well?
Not really. What do you want to play?
No, they're all underpowered chinkshit garbage marketed at hormonal imbalanced american "men" who have the desire to acquire and showoff chinky toys that do the same shit as their chinkshit smartphone, just worse.
Jesus anon calm down. I just want to play my old gb/snes/genny games when I'm laying on my couch. Virtual buttons suck ass. Have you ever tried to play super metroid with virtual buttons?
No and it is mostly the fault of the N64 hardware design being difficult to emulate. You can kind of get it to work though if you don't mind the occasional slow down.
Someone should try and port OoT, the SM64 port works really well on these.
I've been waiting for someone to build OoT to Anbernics version of Linux.
Retroid Pocket 2 can
Don’t listen to these other guys, Retroid Pocket 2+ plays N64 fine, I do it all the time. Anbernic’s new stuff does as well. Basically anything that ships with android will likely play N64 just fine.
if I can play OoT and StarCraft 64 on this thing I'll buy one.
I think the Dpad is great and mushy so pressing diagonals is easy
ok zhang
not going to bunch your useless product
I’m gonna play so many damn N64, ps2, and Gamecube games when my Steam Deck comes in, it’s not even funny.
I’m so excited bros. Q3 can’t come soon enough. For those who got the Q2 preorders. Who many months into Q2 was it before your preorder was available?
bringing this shit on this thread too:
I got this because I had a spare pi zero 2 and wanted a new toy for my birthday and I hate it.
Screen resolution is shit, it's slow to start, buttons aren't great, I see tons of ghosting in games and barely any game scales properly.
I can't believe the miyoo mini is superior in every single way except it has no wifi.
Does anyone have it? Is there ANY game system that looks decent on it?
I have one. I thought it was great until I got the RG351P. It’s not great. Using AA batteries sucks. Plus RetroPie is just worse.
I'm running whateverbox on it rather than retropie but I'm still not satisfied at all, 320x240 is a shit resolution for anything
Golden Sun, Tactics Advance
Harvest Moon
Fire Emblem
Metroid Fusion
Rhythm Tengoku
Megaman Battle Network series
Ninja Five-O
Castlevanias
Drill Dozer
Boktai
Kirby and the amazing mirror
Both Klonoas
Mario Power Tennis
Mother 3
Summon Knight 1 and 2
Sword of Mana
Warioland 4
Zone of the Enders: The fist of Mars
whatever gba games you decide you really like be sure to check romhacks site to see what you can add to your library.
Any good ones? I want to play FFVI but I've heard there's romhacks that combine the best parts of the GBA version with the better music of the SNES version.
Also which, if any, CFW should I put on it? It seems like there's loads of them but I don't know which is the best.
When is the next AmberElec stable release?
Today.
It added a Saturn emulator. I loaded Legend of Oasis and it seems to run just fine.
What device?
rg351mp
finally
>Which shader(s) are you using?
It’s just called “dot” under handhelds in the included shaders
can i run windows xp on this thing?
Idk but it can run dos box through retroarch if that helps
I haven’t tried it yet but I think I have one of the cables lying around, I’ll try it and report back
awesome thank you anon
also if there's any way you have a PS2 emulator set up on there and could test out Timesplitters 1 performance for me id really appreciate it. i know PS2 is pushing it but its a launch title so you never know
I don’t have that setup up sorry, I wouldn’t get your hopes up though. I’ve seen ps2 footage on YouTube though
all good thanks anyway
Come on
I currently have an RG351P and I'm honestly thinking of grabbing a windows handheld. Not the Steam deck, that shit's too big. Maybe the Loki Mini.
kek I thought she was a muslim male at first glance. looks like she has a beard and those funny muslim hats
Holy shit I can’t unsee it
If you have an anbernic device and don't need a few gimmicks, use JELOS instead of AmberELEC. It boots faster and it's almost the same damn thing.
Anything good under $50?
Miyoo Mini is $60 but is absolutely unmatched at that price range, the screen quality is actually nuts
Here a list of them.
https://docs.google()com/spreadsheets/d/1irg60f9qsZOkhp0cwOU7Cy4rJQeyusEUzTNQzhoTYTU/edit#gid=0
Found this picture on Reddit of the HDMI out, would look better integer scaled or at least the proper aspect ratio but at least its crisp
>Found this picture on reddit
Okay where else do you suggest to look for a community specifically for the retroid handhelds
Which one is good for tate? Vertical.
My ps vita is okay ish but I gotta play with the thumbstick. To be good for tate it has to have buttons and d pad on the same side
None of them are “good” for it because none of them were designed for it. Most of them can be played vertical just fine though.
unrelated but have you tried fbalite on vita?
it can run cp3 and pgm games fullspeed, finally!
The Miyoo mini is fricking amazing
I love this little homie
Got picrel for 50 bucks. It's pure soul, I'm happy with everything below SNES, but PS1 is draining the battery faster than light.
lmao why would you buy one of these things, what the frick
Its' cheap, it's not chink, it's portable and I can play at work when I have time
Kinda, it's also a phone, so more socially acceptable, but the main point is PSP go costs a kidney today
>so more socially acceptable
are you one of those weirdos who plays jrpgs with one hand on your phone to look "normal" in public?
Haha, i did play Dragon quest 1 on smartphone recently, but usually no,
I'm a researcher and I spend a lot of time in lab/microscope room. I have some time to spare, having a small second phone in my pocket is just easy way to play GBA/ SNES .
I like tactile feedback when I play, i dislike smartphone for emulation, Xperia play have physical pad.
>he thinks that things not made in China
kek
>Chang STILL doesn’t understand the difference between designed and manufactured
Your forced meme will never catch on. Put a tripcode on if you want attention that bad homosexual. Miyoo and Anbernic shit on that PSPGo wannabe btw.
>more unsubtle shilling
Someone’s working hard for their dinner tonight, huh?
Also,
>meme
It’s not a meme. You’re a genuine chink moron who thinks there isn’t a difference between designed and manufactured lmao.
They're not wrong anon. The PSP phone has glaring issues that make it incredibly bad for emulation. Those older versions of Android do not hold up well. Should have used that $50 on a Miyoo.
I’m not even the anon who was going to bat for the Play. I’ve owned one myself and it’s very mediocre.
I was just responding to
>he thinks that things not made in China
Oh yeah, it's absolutely chinkshit. The Play isn't even a proper Sony device. It's Ericsson.
This is just an inferior version of the PSPgo
Is there anything handheld that can play ps2 or Xbox?
steam deck
Aya have a new range coming out probably gonna be 200 and up in price though.
Your phone probably can. It's 2022.
if phone can doesnt mean it should. it will overheat to oblivion, and wont last at all. only damage your battery in long run
Which charger? It generally doesn't work well with quick chargers with an USB-C port.
Just the normal one that came with my phone that has a normal USB port on it.
It should be fine even with 5V/3A (there are some chargers like that). You just got a faulty unit most probably.
PSP2000 and Vita Slim are both godlike handhelds.
GBA sucks on PSP. I really like the Vita slim but mostly as a nicer PSP. The native library isn't great unless you are big into jrpgs.
I used UO gpSP Kai. I had trouble with Advance Wars.
Not retro so I won't ramble too long but just off the topic of my head:
>the burnout games
>dissidia
>MGS games
>god of war games
>GTA games
>half minute hero
>lumines
>gran turismo
Those are just what I've enjoyed recently. There are loads more but again not retro
Aren't those just PSP ports with the exception of MGS? Talking specifically about the Vita right.
Obviously the original PSP has an incredibly based library and can run PSOne near natively.
I'm actually talking about the PSP lmao, that's what I thought anon was talking about. Never owned a Vita. I'm a PSP junkie.
I hope somebody makes a powerful 4:3 handheld with good build quality someday.
I have an RP2+, and I'm trying to figure out why I can't have different boxarts for certain games. For example, I have
>1Xtreme
>2Xtreme
>3Xtreme
All named different, and I downloaded each boxart, but whenever I change screens and go back, the boxarts all match up again (to the last one I set).
I think this is a bug in the retroid launcher because this keeps happening to me with SMB 2 and 3
So should I just assume that this is a flaw of retroid and not just me fricking up?
or rather, retroarch
Is the Gameforce a food idea if I really care about ergonomics and do!ct care about emulating anything past PS1? I unironically like its weird look.
holy frick typing on a phone sucks
>ergonomics
>nothing past PS1
>like its weird look
Yeah. Sounds like a good choice for you. Main reason to get one nowadays is for the look and feel.
I have one and it's not bad for the price
its on sale right now and I wanna buy it because it has great ergonomics and screen
but im worried about the buttons, are they that bad? otherwise I will buy 351p I guess.
How long do Anbernic generally wait between revisions? I can't decide whether to wait for the vertical version of the 353p or just buy a Miyoo mini.
The RG351P was released in September 2020 and the V in March 2021, but that's not a clear indication they're either going to take that long or even release one. I honestly see the 353P as just an ergonomic RG351MP.
>I honestly see the 353P as just an ergonomic RG351MP.
Neither of them seem ergonomic.
If you're used to vertical ones then I guess I'd understand. For me the uncomfortable part of the RG351MP is that it has those corners. The 353P with the handles makes it at least less painful to hold for long periods of time.
The only horizontal I have ever found comfortable is the PSPgo and I am pretty sure I hold that in a weird way. I have massive hands.
Got me one of these little guys recently. Love it to bits. Just make sure you load the OnionOS frontend at the first chance you can so it's all Retroarch based and not chinkshit emulators. Screen is god tier, honestly puts everything other than the Analogue to shame.
>puts everything other than the Analogue to shame.
Good to know.
> Was hype for an FPGA Gameboy
> They did the Pocket format instead of the SP
Guess I'll wait and vibe like
until they get their shit together and release the superior format.
It's probably because it's the best format to fit a large battery. The SP format would have half the size available for it
That is actually a fair point. I'm still hopeful for that format though, it's my favorite. :^(
I'm more certain it's because they built this for GB/GBC games first and everything else second.
353p is better. Doesn't matter if the RP2+ has a bit more power when the build quality is terrible.
Chink shit emulation isn't /vr/
I am new to this, so this might be a really stupid question. But when I'm emulating a game through Retroarch (Specifically THPS), I get this weird bug where my character shoots up into the sky whenever I come to a full stop. Is this a problem that is unsolvable?
I also crash immediately when trying to load up a different game
>A blue vertical line has appeared in the middle of my RG351v screen
What do I do? I've only had it for 3 months and love it, tried both Arkos and AmberElec not a firmware issue, just appeared while I was playing Minish Cap
It's ogre. Such is the fate of chinese devices.
This looks good, and I haven't read much of production and quality issues from AYN.
You should check the CPUs personal pages.
>win600
single channel ram, no sd card, and no analog triggers while on a higher price. no contest the loki zero wins between the two.
Yeah, the only shame about the loki zero is the release date. I'd bite since my RG351P is giving me issues (fricking stick deadzones being completely wrong makes them only really usable on 8 directions) and I've been looking to play some games that have no chance of getting ported to this.
what's wrong with the release date?
>does anyone that understands how powerful the different Loki versions are based on the specs have any recommendation on which one to get or anything to say about them?
Youtube is actually your hope for this, one of the big 3 hand held emulation channels, taki, eta, or rgc.
All I really know is that the standard Loki is on par or slightly better than the Steam Deck, so the lower ones will be progressively weaker than that. I saw someone say that the Mini Pro will be good for emulating up to some low end PS3.
I originally had a Mini Pro ordered but I upgraded to a 256GB model just to make sure I can play everything I want to.
Here.

Anbernic is coming with their Win600 but it seems to me they're just not gonna be able to compete against AYN if this is the actual price. Dual-channel RAM is a must these days and the Win600 doesn't even have that. A good chunk of games I play can run on 10 year old laptops.
Bought one of these. Am I going to regret it? Just want to play GB, GBC and GBA
It's cheap, probably doesnt matter.
>GBA
Doesn't work well, SNES neither. But for $40 who cares.
Nah bro do your homework, you can instal the miyoo mini os in the v90 and it runs most games flawless, only 3d shit and mode 7 snes shit run a bit off, but overall it's pretty darn good, bought one and so far i've added the custom os, the bigger battery and am designing a 3d printed shell that mimics more the characteristics of the oroginal gba sp; because the original feels a little crappy after a month of use, it literally disintegrates with my sweat lmao
>requires an aftermarket os and shell replacement to be usable
>still can't even handle mode 7
Next thread needs an OP post that reads "Just buy a Miyoo Mini FFS"
I tried that custom firmware it still runs like shit, frick you
Question for anyone with an RP2+. Can you play Gregory Horror Show?
I'll give it a go over the weekend and get back to you, but the answer is almost certainly going to be "no".
I have a shitty old bitt boy v1 and los my backup for its firmware. I could never get doom wads working or play ps1 or snes games. Is it even worth fricking with in 2022?
nm its all on github
Finally modded my 351V. Had to shave down the torx screw holes on the back though as my tool wouldn't fit in. The bevel is kinda meh.
Looks cool
Good to know. This stuff is why an android based device is a non option for me
I remember fricking around with Android when I had a GPD XD and getting it to boot under 7 seconds.
The new revision comes with a free case
Oh, I know. I was interested in getting a nicer-looking one though.
Any specific place you are looking for cases for the Miyoo? Just ordered mine too and was looking to get a smaller one than the one they send the device with.
Apparently cases suited to card decks work great. I really want this but it's sold out everywhere asides a Hong Kong shop for suspiciously cheap.
I fricking hate the L/R buttons on my 351P
Is the 353P better in this regard
Anyone bought the RG 353P? Looks really comfy and I just want to play SNES and Playstation.
