Didn't you hear, anon? The Xbox is retro now.
Now? Xbox was always a great console to emulate some retro games

I can hear SIDgay heads exploding from here. Paulagays in 3..2..1. I figured out early on that even the most basic systems sounded better though the hifi. But a lot of people didn't. Never even knew what they were missing.

I was thinking about getting one of those and making recordings from sound test menus. I know it's all probably on YouTube anyway but it is until it's not.
Sometimes I play games late at night (i.e. after 9pm), and I use some Bluetooth headphones so as to not wake up my kids. I don't like the latency, though. For some reason it bugs me more than the latency from using an LCD screen and Bluetooth controllers.
I guess I could use a long-ass audio cable (since I sit a good 20 feet from the screen), but I can't be bothered.
I already have decent external speakers hooked up to the TV, but you are right, the sound is better in headphones.
>I don't like the latency, though.
I just today got a pair of bluetooth headphones that support aptX LL ("low latency") and to my surprise it's actually good enough that I can't tell, and I'm using them with a CRT.
(I bought an aptX LL transmitter to go with them)
It's still got a minimum 40ms latency according to specs but apparently that's low enough for me.
If you don't care about using the same headphones on other things like a phone, or other features like active noise cancelling, you can just get wireless gaming headphones that have their own dedicated transmitter that's lower latency than bluetooth
It turns out aptx ll has audio crackling issues prevalent across all sorts of hardware; stay away
I have high fidelity sound monitors.
I have studio monitors or hi-fi gear hooked to all my displays. I exclusively play mono consoles
how does that allow you to connect headphones tho ? personally for PS1 and 2 i play them on a PS2 using the optical out going into a DAC and i plug my headphones into that.
>not hooking up your Atari 2600 to a 4K UHD™ TV through a Dolby Atmos™ receiver with 7.1 surround sound
I want to play Haunted House on that setup
you never used good speakers
headphones are better for the price, but 20k speakers and a 5k amp is gonna sound better than 4k headphones
even on the low end something like Chinese $100 Edifiers shit on most headphones.
Headphones are mostly a cope for zoomers who's parents yell at them for making noise.
100$ headphones beat 100$ speakers.
thats the point
Most modern phones used for emulation don't even have a 3.5mm jack champ
There is nothing more cucked than owning a phone that doesn't have a headphone jack.

Adjust volume how please?
That's the wrong adapter though
There's headphones with a built in volume control
Because I plug my consoles into bookshelf speakers.
>take off headphones
>EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
jokes on you it never goes away for me.
So how come the autists wanking over CRTs aren't investing into period-accurate audio setups?
A set of Klipschorns hooked up to a Sony V-Fet amplifier. Would certainly sound a hell of a lot better than any TV speakers ever made.
Because "period-accurate audio setups" are generally one of pic related stuck to the inside of the housing of your blue light special TV connected to your NES with an RF cable.
Also because no one has ever put rocks on their CRT and imagined it improved the quality.
Yet.
This is 100% period accurate, even in my C64 monitor
It's got to be full-size speakers with thumpin bass or a tiny little shit speaker on a one of those TVs with mechanical knobs on the front for changing channels. Everything else is soulless.

Does anyone know the native audio delay for retro consoles and arcade games? The default setting in retroarch is 64ms. But that's about four frames. Not good for fighting games.
I could be wrong, but I believe if you could get it down to 0 ms, that would merely make it equal real hardware, so the latency setting is added on top of whatever latency the game actually has, if any. I can get it as low as 5 ms with very specific settings on my setup, though honestly, getting it to 30 ms or less is already really good.
For the most part - back then and now - gamers don't care about how games look, only how they sound (that is why sony removed the optical out from the PS5 as their research showed nobody ever used the thing on the PS4). It does gall me that in this day and age OG hardware can be hooked up to quality audio gear that relatively costs a fraction of what it would've done in the 80's and 90's yet audio remains ignored despite it being a key pillar in a medium that is both audio and visual. I connected my PS1 to an okay stereo system back in the day and the increase in audio quality over TV speakers is extremely noticeable (made the crash sound effects in destruction derby 2 really cool).
Wait i'm moronic.
>gamers don't care about how games look, only how they sound
Swap look and sound.
>that is why sony removed the optical out from the PS5 as their research showed nobody ever used the thing on the PS4
the only reason i dont use the optical out is because theres a headphone jack on the controller and i play with headphones most of the time.
Have to use this because my pvm speakers don't work. Its pretty nice
I use 20 dollar headphones and it sucks.
Because it's not accurate to the developer's intentions. You weren't meant to hear all those little details. Games should only be played on 15 inch composite only CRTs.
Enjoy playing this with headphones on.
wow you weren't kidding
