I have a laptop for everything important, I have a backup of every catgirl femdom picture I ever saved, my computer can crash I don't care so I don't even try to prevent it.
And it don't happen.
If I suspect something then I just investigate via virtual machine and make my judgement based on the scan results. If I feel uncomfortable after that then I'll diskwipe, flash bios and start fresh. That is rare, I've also never had an issue with malware, no compromised data or accounts. Part of that could be because my main gaming PC has no net access, so there is a possibility I'm not noticing certain things.

not that this matters, 99% of malware gets stopped by the aggressively proactive defender and the 1% that gets through will do rudimentary stuff like steal password cache from a browser
keyloggers and rats are virtually impossible to pull off in modern windows without user interaction and even then suspicious behaviour gets flagged, this happens with some legit software because defender is extremely trigger happy
where you should be careful is work related hardware, companies are actively being sent targeted malware that is often day zero exploits
