Replaying it right now (the gog version) and in some ways i think people give F3 too much shit, but in other ways not. The most egregious thing i've encountered so far is the anchorage dlc since it railroads you into playing as a soldier, it's a corridor shooter with few alternative paths to enable you to play stealthily for example. Who even thought it was a good idea? F3's shooting mechanics were outdated on release so why dedicate an entire dlc to it?
The egregious level scaling is still the worst part of Fallout 3. Boy I sure love slaughtering Deathclaws like they're random feral ghouls.
haven't felt that yet (been years since i last played it) but i am playing as a sneak melee/explosives character and that is surprisingly fun, using silenced weapons to lure enemies into land mines or stabbing them in the back for the sneak critical hit.
the last time i played was as a small guns character and that got boring fast since there are so few guns in the game compared to new vegas for example
