1. EGS is shit. Epic was making money hand over fist with Fortnite and needed a place to "invest" it and this is the best idea they could come up with. That's the only reason why it exists.
2. It was an old idea even when it launched. All of the major publishing studios tried to have their own game stores/launchers and had mostly already failed and given up by the time Epic started making their push.
3. Tim b***hes about Steam being a monopoly that is bad for consumers, but he's challenging it using tactics that are more anti-competitive than anything Valve has ever done.
4. Gamers like Steam and do not want gaming to end up like streaming where content is split up among a dozen different platforms which, again, is something that almost happened in the mid-2010s with Origin, uPlay, and the like
