Games that need improvement are the best ones to remake, you can actually make the new versions better. Most remakes only can be "as good" at best because the original is so good.

That's all Wii games. The thing's an overclocked GameCube with motion controls. It couldn't handle modern games like the PS3 and 360 did.

i've had the original since it released, it's hard to believe that it's...13(?) years old now? jeez...
hopefully now people can't use "it's stuck on the wii" as an excuse to not play it anymore. i probably won't get the remaster, though, since i already have it. i still need to play 2 and the 3ds game

The 3ds game fine. Teaming up with Disney heroes and villains and to take down someone who hasn’t been relevant since the Genesis is pretty fun. Just wish the game was a bit faster movement wise

Yeah that got annoying too, really broke up the pace. But the level design was solid. I would recommend a playthrough for people who liked the first game

      Anonymous

2 will just sadden you, I really don't recommend playing it if you really liked the first game.
Since it essentially IS the first game with most of the exact same areas, only with shoehorned in co-op (and the CPU controlled Oswald is an annoyance, never played it with an actual second player).

2 is a complete waste of time, was rushed out in under a year of development time and as a consequence is even buggier and only like 4 hours long. Also the tone is too light and the narrative is riddled with holes due to last minute rewrites.

The production of EM2 is a very well documented shitshow.

3DS one is a disappointed rushed product with lots of padding. They had at least one 1/4th of the game planned and used in tentative artwork but never included.
Lots of disappointments from that time, even the Castle of Illusion remake was a bit rushed because the entire studio was shut before the game even released

Less “IP” and more so “owning rights”. It’s like with Rayman Legends in Japan, that version of the game is only allowed on Nintendo platforms since they footed the bill for that game in that region

Nintendo wants to become a replacement for Disney. Nintendo better watch out because Disney right now is not a role model. Disney is decaying given all the israeli CEO woke Leftist agendas they spam. Not to mention Disney buys other companies and properties to ruin them. I don't think gamers would ever forgive Nintendo if they bought Capcom and ruined all Capcom franchises for example. Nintendo better watch itself. Being like Disney is a huge red flag.

From what I remember, it's pretty crappy. The camera is still a pain in the ass, they really trimmed down the morality mechanics and the coop was pointless. It's a bit of a let down and I completely understand why the series stopped after it. I also have a personal problem with it.

If this does well, Deus Ex might not die again. I kind of want to see what they'd do with a remaster of it. How bad it could possibly be. Maybe they'll change nothing about it like they seem to have been doing. And it is a Warren Spector game, which could be a coincidence.

BfBB Rehydrated wasn't quite a 1:1 remake. They changed a few small things and the physics are just a little bit different. The Cosmic Shake was actually a great iteration on the same formula and the writing and pacing occasionally feel like the early seasons of the show, and the biggest downside the game has is the English voice direction. Whoever they had directing Tom Kenny especially did a poor job, until recently, I thought that it was just what the role did to him after 20+ years but his extemporaneous performance of the voice for the Super Bowl simulcast was more similar to seasons 4,5 and 6 than it has been for a long time, which suggests that it's not Tom Kenny who's the problem of late.

My main question is going to be are they going to get VAs for this game like they did the second?
If so, Bret Iwan would still be Mickey obviously but I’m more curious if they get Frank Welker back as Oswald. They got some literal who for Speedstorm with a different voice entirely from EM2 and it’s atrocious, and if they use this game to give Oswald a “definite” voice going forward I want it to not be shit

Based on the announcement trailer they're probably just going to reuse the voice acting from the original game

One of my favorite things about this game is that it kept the “ears always face the screen thing” like in the cartoons. Kingdom Hearts couldn’t even to that

It doesn't play like Psychonauts at all, that game was way more fleshed out than Epic Mickey. It's more like a stripped-down version of Mario Sunshine if they took away the movement options from FLUDD but expanded how you could affect the story/environment/NPCs with the water.

Reminder they are re-releasing this to distract from the public domain versions of the characters and to assert continued trademark rights.

      Anonymous

It’s not like Disney isn’t using goddamn Mickey Mouse (or even Oswald for that matter he’s been used quite a lot the last few years) enough for that trademark to be valid enough for this game to exist. This has a higher part in trying to keep Mickey relevant and cool and to further promote Oswald.
And that’s a good thing if they are going trademark the ass out of these two to hold onto them I’d want them to regularly appear in good shit like this

      Or just hear me out
It seems like Disney is trying to break into the video game market again
      >they let sora in smash
      >they invested a shit ton into fortnite
      >they have some game IPs going already like the knock off stardew or that platofrming Mickey game
Maybe this is just testing the waters again. Epic Mickey would be one of the best ips to return to if they wanted to do more video games

        Anonymous

That’s insanely obvious. They made an insane bad knee-jerk reaction to shut down their studio because kids wouldn’t buy the half-assed toy accessory game and somehow boomers in the 2010s couldn’t figure out that gaming was going to be the prominent media in the short future and if they want to keep Mickey and Disney interest alive they need to make games
They are clearly going back in that direction and Epic Mickey remaster (and potentially EM3 later) is the obvious testing ground for later ideas

Considering it’s a ground up remake, they’re probably be looking at the Japanese version for inspiration since most big fans consider that the definitive version. Purple Lamp, for the better or worse, is very in touch with fans when making games

Was just thinking about this game and how it deserves another chance, glad to see it come back, loved the original on Wii but never finished it. Noticed that it's being developed by Purple Lamp, who did Battle for Bikini Bottom and The Cosmic Shake, so I think the remaster SHOULD be in good hands. Are they going to use the controls from EM2 in order to paint? Will there even BE motion controls? Excited but definitely curious.

This game was so close to being great, and I'm not even talking about the concept art. The collectaton formula was in there but spark collection sucked and the side quests just didn't fit in properly. I hope this remake addresses that, plus bringing back the Japanese version QOL changes and some of the unused ideas like Mickey's design changing depending on which route you're going for.

            >The Jug Pump is a scrapped, modified version of the Jug. It was supposed to drag all of the Thinner of the ocean inside the Jug, using various pumps. The largest one, directly next to the Jug, was supposed to suck the entire Thinner Ocean into the Jug. At one point, the mechanism was broken, leading to a quest to repair it with paint. An rejected version of Ursula was supposed to live in the Jug.

Late in development, apparently. It sits on a similar spot to the beanstalk factory. The plot of the first game explains that it was completely destroyed.

If there's one thing I'll say positively about the sequel, it's that the in-engine 3D cutscenes are well made, especially for a game with that troubled of a development. Glad they're coming back.

Levels are a bit more linear, but have you move through them a lot faster. SpongeBob being the only character means he gets a growing arsenal of moves. Said moves complements the level design well. I think the two games are on par, but you will see people say they prefer one to the other

I'm thinking more along the lines of an independent developer, not tied to Disney. Characters like Popeye and Betty Boop are also going to be made public domain in the coming year or two, so I could see a spiritual "Epic Mickey 3" being made, separate from the Disney license and entirely legal. Some characters like Goofy, Donald, and Pluto couldn't be in it, same with Disney's fairy-tale adaptations like Snow White.

Isn't the more modern Mickey not public domain? Also Epic Mickey itself is definitely not public.

Supposedly, the devs wanted another year or so to work on it, but the Disney execs wanted it out the door by Christmas 2010. And the sequel got shafted even worse than that.

EM1 made it (mostly) unscathed. EM2 however was completely ruined by its deadline and is missing like half the planned content as a result.

I remember they said that the denizens of Mean Street were partially made up of discarded sketches and unused concepts. Big missed opportunity to not have Mickey run into earlier drafts of himself. They could've been the main enemy type for Mickey Junk Mountain. And it would've been fun to see Oswald interact with actual physical copies of the guy that ruined his life. On a different note, I wonder if they're actually going to try making Oswald the villain at the end. Or would that be too drastic of a change for a remake?

        All centered around upgrading vehicles.
Mini game of building up McDuck Incorporated, selling products you obtain from missions or using them in a factory building mini game.

Money buys extravagant vehicles and adventure equipment. Like a rocket to the moon is the most expensive. Atlantis sub.
Adventure gear like cold weather gear and grappling hook guns, campfire stuff.

        Nephews have junior woodchuck powers.

And hopefully like 20 locations with as much Young Scrooge lore as possible.

It's a pretty good game. Also if you emulate it or get out your Wii prepare to frick around with the camera a lot, it's terrible and hopefully one of the things the remake fixes.

If they are to remake Epic Mickey 2, it should be an overhaul of the entire thing. The game needs more meat on the bone and the story has to not be moronic.
Also there should be a mechanic where the world is affected by your choices from EM1. Maybe have save data from the first game be used to influence the second. They just pussied out and made the first game's outcome ambiguous.

There are two Mickeys, the original and the modern.

The original was a crazy looney, completely hilarious, then they toned him down and change his design a lot.

I think that's when he became an "actor" so, technically, most of his adventures were actually acting, like a theater.

So, start with the older stuff. To me only Ub Iwerks and Disney are "canon", there are a lot of cool stuff though, specially when it comes to games, like Kingdom Hearts. It's strange, but Disney doesn't really mess with Mickey.

Most buildings in the game will keep their default paint/thinner makeup every time you come and go from an area. Like in Ostown, Oswald's house is partially painted and has a grey decrepit underside that's thinned out, even if you fully paint that in, it will reset when you come back to the world, but there is a building in that area that can be permanently painted/thinned out that will stay the same when you come back. If you spray thinner on most NPCs their torsos and limbs lose their skeleton and flop to the ground in a pile like a blobfish and get really annoyed, but if you use paint they're turned to normal. That's another detail that isn't permanent, but there are still select NPCs you can kill off. The most impact the permanent choices have is on the game's ending and other cheevos that can unlock concept art and bonus public domain short films, but it's like this throughout the whole game, even in areas you can't go back to. It got leaked in this thread though that they're adding alternate costumes for Mickey, so they might be trying to add more incentive to specific permanent choices by changing his appearance (or giving you the option to since it looks like you can still select the default Mickey look at any time).

      Anonymous

The choices don't really matter much, in fact that's one of the biggest issues I had with this game. The alternate endings amount to different cutscenes and occasionally you'll get locked out of a quest or can't buy an item depending on your choices, but that's really it.

Critics bashed the camera and controls but they failed to see the SOUL. The storytelling and worldbuilding is really really good, and that's what's resonated with people for so long (and why the sequel is so loathed as its plot takes a steaming dump on this aspect).

I loved the several deep cuts in 2:
The rainbow caverns from the long-gone Mine Train through Nature's Wonderland, Pete's Dragon from the Electrical Parade, Roald Dahl credited for the gremlins and utilidors, and Club 13/33 in the Blot Alley.

I wish they had been bolder with the NPC selection. Like there's so many outright cancelled Disney movies you could pull from, but the Gremlins were the only ones they ever used and even then, no Fifinellas.

The way I've always pictured it is "Word of the Wasteland starts spreading around the Toon World and Figment goes on an Orpheus quest to find Dreamfinder and all those other guys Eisner removed in the 90s/00s, which puts him in villain crosshairs since that's a free heart wandering around". And then you could have sidequests of other characters on similar adventures for characters deleted from their movies, like Aladdin looking for his mother comes to mind.

2 deserves to be forgotten, it's clear that the reason they didn't also remaster or remake it alongside this one is because you'd basically need to make a whole new game.

But the Doctor wasn't a random jobber, he was basically using the Blot as muscle for his own schemes since they decided to make the Blot a mindless force of nature instead of actually adapting the comic book character.

It's fricking weird how Disney made such a big deal of getting him back then did absolutely nothing with him other than Epic Mickey, some merchandise and cameos in a few cartoons and mobile games. Then again they barely do anything with most of their cartoon cast now.

In this case the director is trying to hide his influence due to copyright by saying he was "inspired by Trolley Troubles" but he occasionally lets it slip, his main influence is the early Epic Mickey concept art and corruption artwork surrounding it and he's low-key trying to make a film out of that
Which is why this is the only horrorshit that makes sense but frick we really need original concepts for these PD toons

Why are they remaking this awful game? The only reason the first game sold tolerable is because people still pretended to care about Mickey Mouse due to things like Kingdom Hearts making Disney's brand stronger. But the fact of the matter is the game had lousy camera, wonky controls, and it wasn't fun to play. And graphically I say it's worse than stuff like Banjo Tooie or Jak 2.

Hope this remake fails. So tired of people pretending anyone cares about Mickey Mouse in the gaming industry Mickey Mouse is a peasant compared to Mario who is king. In the gaming industry Mickey Mouse is lamer than Sonic the Hedgehog. Enough said. And with Disney's current reputation I hope this game fails. Anything with the Disney logo especially their mascot must fail. And here's hoping for the failure of....

    Frozen 3
    Frozen 4
    Zootopia 2
    Moana 2
    Inside Out 2
    Toy Story 5

And all those live action soulless trash movies like Bambi. May it all fail so Disney can die. Disney got infiltrated by shitty israelites and feminists so their output is trash. Hope they die. Let history record the following, Disney died due to Shitty Women and Shitty israelites infiltrating it.

Don't worry Disney WILL die like they deserve. We will live to see it. The best thing that happened to Disney is Feminist Jennifer Lee and israeli Iger. Those two are the horsemen of the apocalypse for Disney.

Jennifer Lee wastes budget money on shitty ideas for animated movies like Wish, which was a huge failure to celebrate Disney's 100 years doing business, and Iger keeps enabling this hag.
