If the PSN requirement didn't result in Helldivers 2 getting pulled from regional storefronts and mass returns, nothing would have changed. "Review bombing" is a dumb term, but it's especially dumb when used as a tactic for activism 99 times out of 100.
Bad reviews made me lose interest in that weird recent ARPG where nearly everything is consumable/degrades with use, since apparently it all degrades way too fast and makes everything tedious (e.g. pickaxe for getting ores, and healing consumables you use were effectively a waste if you lose to a boss)

Because reviews on steam are important. Any game that could of interest for you can have technical issues or hidden aspects you don't know about. If there are out of game reasons the reviews are negative then a person that is not "in the know" would see it as an indicator that the game is not worth their time. There are far less people invested in the disckurse or following the schizo shit than there are actual players of said games.
The problem is when those mixed reviews are the result of reviewbombing. casual plebs like you glance at the store page for 3 seconds and "oh, it's Mixed" *leave the store page* without checking why.
You can dislike it, but that's the reality of the market. There are far more good games than time time to play them, and a mixed review is generally a correct indiciation of an unworthy investment. That's why steam has a feature to hide periods of review bombing in their ratings. Casual or not, expecting every consumer to evaluate every video game purchase on the same level as they would for buying a house is absurd. If you believe the contrary, you spend far too much time online.
