Also, how's you game going?

>tryharding in a casual single player map painter
You're the reason modern games are boring.
>tryhard
Dude, I'm a 6 provinces country trying to fight Poland+ Lithuania. I'm gonna NEED every advantage I can get if I want to win.
>can't count up to 7
Color me not surprised.
>7
>opening with a mil group
enjoy eating shit from neighbors two techs ahead of you
you've never heard of bigger army diplomacy?
Quantity
Your troops will be worse than Polish anyways but if you have numbers you can outsiege him and avoid fighting and tank attrition.
My Prome > Burma WC is on pouse as I have to wageslave for a week and get a gig done.
opening quantity is an awful idea. Not only will you be behind in mil tech but the force limit won't help you if you're too broke to afford filling it
What do you suggest then?
Unless he's got a 6 mil ruler, nothing military. Something in dip or admin you can dump points into safely, like diplomatic or admin.
An idea group isn't going to get you out of an early game situation like that, allies and fighting smart will.
I've 6 mil rule but you have a point.
>expand eastwards instead for now
Chernigov and Zaporozhie are Lithuania's vassals and Lithuania is Poland's junior partner. I can't expand anywhere without having to fight them first.
then suck their rivals wieners until they support you, and if muscovy, bohemia or austria aren't among them then consider starting over
>Innovative first idea
based my space marines will rape the peasants with quality inno
Quality is your best bet. I can't remember if they nerfed defensive but thats also a good pick if Poland doesnt have a morale boost in ideas
Defensive for the morale boost would be good since morale is king in this patch
this defense up to morale boost and then focus tech or
unironically just go economic or innovative and expand eastwards instead for now
jump poland when they're at low manpower and in debt, don't take them on full strength
Just get the morale from defensive and have a tech advantage
Offensive is the only real mil idea group. Going anything else is just roleplaying
Only if you do the strat of ignoring enemy armies to siege race them
The goal should always be to siege down as many forts as fast as possible while the AI is busy sperging out or sieging down one of your weaker allies
I planned to play Defensive Finland next.
offensive blows, lousy policies weak ideas save siege speed. Quality and Quantity are must picks.
>quality
a meme, don't listen to him
it's a strong group with great policies with other strong groups like religious and diplomatic, unlike offensive or quantity
>chock full of useless naval memes
>cav memes
>quality + diplo is gigauseless as a policy
You moronic Black person half the ideas are naval, 10 cavalry combat is worthless, 10 infantry combat is only good if you already have some, and 10 artillery combat won't help him at all. All he'd get are some yearly army tradition (meh) and 5% discipline (great). And policies are not worth spending 2800 (or possibly 5600) points on, except for: admin-influence, court-admin, and court-religious.
I don't think I've ever played a game where I didn't end up going quality + quantity, except as Lubeck. If you don't have at least 120% discipline by 1700 then you're toast.
By 1700 you can easily have 115% discipline with Offensive as your only mil idea. And you can get 120% as long as you're playing one of the many nations that has 5% in their National Ideas.
take innovative + offensive for fat siege bonuses from policy
>forcing every possible releasable out of Lithuania before swapping
You got me. What can I say? I'm noob, that's why I made this thread in the first place.
Spending mil on getting a tech advantage is better than an idea group. Poland doesn't have any military national ideas at the beginning and usually likes to keep his troops split into ~15k stacks, while Lithuania keeps all their troops in one stack usually. Honestly if you can build up to combat width and get one of Poland's rivals to join the war as your ally then it shouldn't be too tough of a war, though the longer you wait the harder it will get. And you should have gotten your first idea group well before 1479.
Poland-lithuania also gets a 1 mil ruler at the start so it's not that hard to get even 2 techs ahead
if you can micro well and take offensive ideas you can capitulate them pretty fast by siege rushing, i wouldn't grind my armies down at this point
IT'S KEEYIEEV YOU FRICKING RUSSIAN bot BIGOT NAZI PIECE OF SHIT
I always pick quantity because number go big
Zoroastrian Persia.
Offensive/Quality are the best mil ideas.
So what are good idea groups in general?
Depends on what you're doing, they're all good for something.
The issue is some are good for things everyone is always doing, like diplomatic and humanist, and some for things that nobody is ever doing, like maritime, aristocratic or espionage.
Diplo is always really good. Coalitions are the only real limitation preventing you from snowballing and diplo lets you break up coalitions and secure strong allies that prevent coalitions from firing.
If you want to expand significantly and efficiently (if you don't then why are you playing eu4?) then 1. Dip 2. Admin 3. Religious is basically the meta for non-hordes. Before this patch, 4th was usually Offensive but now Court may be better. Humanist is very good in general, though not worth it imo if you're doing a One Faith with no vassals.
For hordes, it's 1. Dip 2. Admin 3. Off/Hum 4. Court/Off/Hum.
If you're an opm/small prince in the HRE, then espionage is pretty good
Quantity, Diplo, Admin are pretty much a given every game I feel like.
Either quantity or offensive, quantity will help a lot with manpower in addition to the force limit while making troops a little bit cheaper, offensive gives you better generals, siege ability and discipline. Both help in the diplo game as potential allies factor in army size when it comes to accepting alliances iirc, and both idea groups unlock a policy with diplo that give more diplo rep which again helps in getting alliances as well as getting said allies to join your wars. Defensive is good for the morale but beyond that I always found it meh and the policies didn't impress me. Though since I assume you're orthodox then quantity might be better in your position since you can get discipline from the icon plus manpower recovery and since religious is strong pick for ortho nations you get a policy with it that gives morale.
There should be a genocide policy in this game
Religious-Influence=-15% Culture Conversion Cost=Ethnic Cleansing
Serious question: Should I?
always
achievements are cool
Honestly I don't care about achievements. I just tried of save scumming because it feel like I'm cheating.
Guess I'll try Ironman with Ottomans first.
Yeah you can always alt f4 anyway
>quantity
>quality
Economic -> Quantity
It's literally the meta.
HOI 3 chad here. I love EU4.
1.quality
2.innovative (never start with an admin group
3. diplo for cheaper expansion and vassal swarm/vassal core reconquest
4. religious for that casus belli
The space marine combo of the first 2 ideas will have you beat up nations much bigger than you.
