Giving indie devs access to feature rich engines where 90% of the work is done was quite frankly a mistake. It has done nothing but allow talentless hacks to shart out any turd they want. The best indie games came at a time where the only options were to prove yourself and earn a license to a big engine (like Garry did with gmod and the people who made killingfloor did), buy a license, or make your own engine.

Flooding the market with subpar games has done no one any good. Good games with genuine effort and talent poured into them are lost in a sea of shit and believe me we were better off before. The world does not need more indie pixel rpgs about depression, shitty quake clones, faux ps1 games that require $200 modern gpus, or indie early access survival game that will never be finished.

To be fair game maker studio 2 sucks ass compared to 1.4. it looks like the Soyuz throatfricked Eva from WALL-E and still had a child somehow.

I don't think yoyo needed any help from a buy out to become bad. Studio 1.4 was good in that they had support for many platforms, but try to make anything big in it and you get bugs slapping you in the face.
It's html5 export didn't even patch float precision math to let you write things like "0.3 - 0.1" and the result not be something moronic like 0.2000001.
Even windows calculator doesn't have float math trouble lol.
Its very unstable and constantly has issues after updating. Like their update channels have names like "stable" but ALL from gm studio has been riddled with trouble since day 1.
The worst thing is it's still better than many other IDEs.
And don't forget in 1.4, and the highest tier money can buy, there wasn't even good gui's for things like testing an objects button bindings with a controller.
It's a game IDE that isn't self aware.
This is like movie making software not having color grading.
