Yes, exactly. Soaring and Mirage Islands were such a nice mechanic that actually made you appreciate the region as a whole in the postgame instead of just sticking to the same 3-4 towns/areas like other games did beforehand. That and the secret bases actually made you feel like you're part of the region and not just going from one level to the next.
The bottom screen showing what Pokemon you could catch in that route was also an amazing feature that should've been a mainstay. The games go to shit as soon as you start looking things up on Bulbapedia, adding as much stuff in-game as you can to mitigate that should've been a top priority.
I was there from the beginning, played Gen 1 when it was new and I could barely read, loved every Gen til 5, and I don't think I'll ever play another Pokemon game ever again. Just romhacks for me

The hate for the Gen 5 dex has been recent and bizarre to me. For the longest time it was only really people assblasted about the Oshawott line and the obligatory Garbador and Vanilluxe whining which would get shut down a lot by the usual bringing up of Muk and Electrode. Meanwhile, with Gen 4, back then you couldn't go two seconds without "lol wtf is this Digimon shit???" WAAAY more. It definitely was less positive to me imo at least then. If we include each one still I wouldn't think that 5 is the most hated, 8 exists.

I've never heard about the dex reception causing less pokemon bit. I think the lukewarm reception in the norm-o-sphere towards them gravitated around keeping the dex new only and the gross mishandling of zoroark which BW2 tried to fix but it was too late. It never seemed like pure hate. Game-wise it does make sense why someone would think 5 was the last golden era gen especially with BW2 feeling like a gigantic love letter. I don't think 6 and 7 are outright horrendous but they definitely don't fit the bill.
It still sells though frick. Too many morons still buying scarlet and violet for their kids. Understandable since at the end of the day it's a kid's game. That shouldn't matter as long as the origin of coordinates is in Paldea itself. Most games/engines have absurd world sizes as well, you den't get side effects unless you go far from the center.

The early belief was that since online has no tethers, the entire map is always loaded since every player in a session could go anywhere and do anything as if they were playing alone.
They are probably calculating physics, collisions, or whatever it can be put on a model all at the same time. Maybe they are rendering each thing separately instead of instancing, or not even using culling.
Legitimately how does this happen? Pikmin 4 just came out for the same console and it looks incredible and runs well. How do you frick up this bad? Was it a budget issue? Is Nintendo cutting budget on Game Freak?

It's probably not related to the camera function. I've never used it and I've had that glitch a few times, too, but only after using the lizard mount to ride around then purchase something from a vendor.

People praise Digmon Cyber Sleuth for having "good" animation when it just has more one-off moves tied to only 1 mon. Most z-moves were signatures and looked great.

Arceus was good on accident. The stealth+collectathon gameplay is why it worked, the battles were largely inconsequential. Mainline Pokemon however is a battle autism live service RPG so engagement had to be padded wherever possible. Slower battles, no extra turns, no skipping battles (aside from not doing them at all), slower animations and menus, you get the idea.
Honestly they should make two kind of games. Games like Legends where they can change anything about the mechanics and the "shodown" battle simulators autism like stadium and colosseum/xd/battle revolution, so we can split the fanbase between people that will play online like morons and just want play a pokemon adventure and even have difficulty modes and bosses. Everything what i said will never happen though

I recently had a very strong urge to replay through Emerald just so I can play through the pokemon contests. I still haven't reached the town yet, but looking at moves beyond their power and STAB is pretty fun so far.
The bridge to get to the city in BW was actually so impressive. It was a technical marvel that showed mastery over the DS. Its akin to what the Last of Us was like on the ps3. How can nu pokemon still not figure out the switch?

Don't bother with any of the games past gen 5. Just emulate Fire Red/Leaf Green, Emerald, Platinum, Heart Gold/Soul Silver, and BW&BW2 and leave it there for the main series. If you want more there's a good amount of quality romhacks.
it's a shame too because this time you can see they actually gave more detail to the pokemon models and in terms of gameplay (not post game though thats still shit) scarlet and violet are so much better than every other 3d mainline game it's not even close

Why isn't there a fan game that BTFOs GameFreak's games with all the pokemon, megaevos, the rest of the gimick mechanics, battle frontier, follow pokemon, seasons, a pokemon bank for all the games, fast a beautiful 3D graphics, trainer customization, online battles, multiplayer adventuring, and so on. There are a lot of different projects that individually get some of these aspects right, pkhex is a save editor for all pokemon games and can be used as a pokemon bank, pokemon showdown has every pokemon and mechanic all mingling with each other, and pokemmo is just the DS and GBA games but online. These are all cool but they don't combine to form a singular experience, and have more than feature parity than any pokemon game.

Yes, exactly. Soaring and Mirage Islands were such a nice mechanic that actually made you appreciate the region as a whole in the postgame instead of just sticking to the same 3-4 towns/areas like other games did beforehand. That and the secret bases actually made you feel like you're part of the region and not just going from one level to the next.
The bottom screen showing what Pokemon you could catch in that route was also an amazing feature that should've been a mainstay. The games go to shit as soon as you start looking things up on Bulbapedia, adding as much stuff in-game as you can to mitigate that should've been a top priority.

The hate for the Gen 5 dex has been recent and bizarre to me. For the longest time it was only really people assblasted about the Oshawott line and the obligatory Garbador and Vanilluxe whining which would get shut down a lot by the usual bringing up of Muk and Electrode. Meanwhile, with Gen 4, back then you couldn't go two seconds without "lol wtf is this Digimon shit???" WAAAY more. It definitely was less positive to me imo at least then. If we include each one still I wouldn't think that 5 is the most hated, 8 exists.

I've never heard about the dex reception causing less pokemon bit. I think the lukewarm reception in the norm-o-sphere towards them gravitated around keeping the dex new only and the gross mishandling of zoroark which BW2 tried to fix but it was too late. It never seemed like pure hate. Game-wise it does make sense why someone would think 5 was the last golden era gen especially with BW2 feeling like a gigantic love letter. I don't think 6 and 7 are outright horrendous but they definitely don't fit the bill.

Arceus was good on accident. The stealth+collectathon gameplay is why it worked, the battles were largely inconsequential. Mainline Pokemon however is a battle autism live service RPG so engagement had to be padded wherever possible. Slower battles, no extra turns, no skipping battles (aside from not doing them at all), slower animations and menus, you get the idea.
Honestly they should make two kind of games. Games like Legends where they can change anything about the mechanics and the "shodown" battle simulators autism like stadium and colosseum/xd/battle revolution, so we can split the fanbase between people that will play online like morons and just want play a pokemon adventure and even have difficulty modes and bosses. Everything what i said will never happen though

ST is actually well intentioned. They often used to have too many ideas and half baking all of them instead of restricting to just a couple good ones and working on those.

That's a kind of garbage that is difficult to do even intentionally. If a person who has never used Unity in their life tries to create this same scene, it will look amateurish and ugly too, but it won't come close to that image.
If someone tries to parody that image by doing something bad on purpose, achieving the same result will be more difficult than actually learning 3D and making acceptable graphics.

It's just overly aggressive LOD management because GF can't optimize for shit and the Switch is less powerful than a gen 7 console.

Only the character model is good in that entire image, the rest is terrible regardless of how far away it is from the screen.
Look at that yellow wall, the geometry, the texture, the colors, the shadow, basically every single pixel of it manages to be ugly, it's the realization of perfect ugliness.

SV was shit, you're really not missing anything by skipping Gen IX. But if you want to play a switch pokemon game that isn't buggy and unfinished as hell, just play Sword/Shield.
Don't bother with any of the games past gen 5. Just emulate Fire Red/Leaf Green, Emerald, Platinum, Heart Gold/Soul Silver, and BW&BW2 and leave it there for the main series. If you want more there's a good amount of quality romhacks.

I am still convinced this was some sort of experiment to see how little effort they can put into a pokemon game and see how many idiots will still buy it.
Why isn't there a fan game that BTFOs GameFreak's games with all the pokemon, megaevos, the rest of the gimick mechanics, battle frontier, follow pokemon, seasons, a pokemon bank for all the games, fast a beautiful 3D graphics, trainer customization, online battles, multiplayer adventuring, and so on. There are a lot of different projects that individually get some of these aspects right, pkhex is a save editor for all pokemon games and can be used as a pokemon bank, pokemon showdown has every pokemon and mechanic all mingling with each other, and pokemmo is just the DS and GBA games but online. These are all cool but they don't combine to form a singular experience, and have more than feature parity than any pokemon game.
