The social aspect of this game is the most important part. If you don’t have friends playing with you or you end up disliking the people you play with regularly, you’re going to have a bad time. The game itself is just cookie clicker with a chat feature and a little more gameplay involved. You kill to kill higher level shit so you can get better items to kill shit so you can get better items to kill shit until eventually your gear is about as good as it gets and you realize there’s literally nothing to do, but stand around and wait for the next expansion to reset everything.
>The social aspect of this game is the most important part.
This is why EQ will never be worth playing again. The internet and society in general was a different beast back then. You generally had more well-adjusted and better behaved people and a huge cost of entry on top of it.
its combat is a lot better than it's given credit for, because most players do nothing but grind on trash.
It's not good enough to be worth the hundreds of thousands of hours that you're expected to invest, but it's not as bad as people say.
a big part of that is playing any class with spells. id probably kill myself playing warrior or rogue for extended periods of time. monk too but at least they are pullers which is the most active thing you can do in the game
I wish more MMOs were like this. I miss grinding mobs while talking with people, maybe RPing and shit. I tried playing FF14 and I felt that the MMO social aspect had nothing going for it. You can literally auto group, the gameplay is intense enough that you don't have any time to type in chat, so nobody even talks to each other except maybe a hello. You just open up the menu, click group, teleport to dungeon, run through, leave, teleport to important npcs to learn skills or sell, then rinse and repeat. The open world is mainly just optional, even walking around town is optional. I never once needed to talk to another player, and when I looked at the guilds page it was just people inviting to ERP or selling feet pics. I don't understand what anybody gets out of this shit, it's just sad.
Modern MMOs are designed ass backwards. The gameplay is intense yet requires no communication, most of the time it doesn't even require a party. They designed away all the parts that made the genre what it was.

It's honestly kind of baffling that nobody has really tried to make a new mmo where grouping matters.
MMOs are in such a weird spot right now; if you can't solo then a game will die because you could easily end up in a situation where there are 50 warriors and no healers, or 17 healers and no tanks, or some other combination where you have 30 people in your level range sitting around with their dicks out doing nothing because they don't have the right puzzle pieces to form a functional party.
but likewise, if a game is too far in the direction of soloing, then there's no reason to interact with people at all.
the worst part is that things like autogroup aren't even the main problem, it's almost entirely people being incapable of socializing. or worse, the people that you do socialize with are fricktards that you can't stand being around, so you stop playing the game because they actively suck the fun out of it (Which is the experience a lot of people have on private servers in particular). some games go as far as making classes be nothing more than a cosmetic choice by homogenizing their toolkits, with every class having their AoE nukes, single-target boss killing ability, some flavor of support if you're lucky, etc. etc.
I think finding a balance something like old Ragnarok Online would be great. The game has a huge variety of monsters and they have various AI, stats, elements, xp and job xp variance. On top of that the xp scaling worked such that you didn't really care that much about your level vs monster level but only that you could kill said monster efficiently. This led to interesting soloing options for different classes and you could even gear up to do specific farms. Of course partying was pretty much always more efficient because with a party you could kill more difficult monsters that gave proportionally more xp. It was a system that allowed soloing but incentivized partying.
I think the dumbing down of classes in many games has pretty much killed the various styles of soloing mentioned above. Everyone kills the same mobs and does the same quests for xp on their journey to level cap. There's almost no variance.
i haven't checked in on pantheon in a year or two but if it ever comes out its supposed to be grouping focused
Pantheon is assumed dead ever since Brad McQuaid died a couple years ago.
I mean the devs still push updates but it feels like theyre faking it now. Most of the community following it left.
oakwynd. I have about 1 or 2 weeks experience with EQ and I want a class that remains relatively average throughout all the expansions. what do I play?
so far I’m thinking rogue and wizard but that’s more because I like those classes in games I don’t know how they actually are
Soloing as a rogue is hell compared to a wizzy and I imagine anywhere you play EQ today is going to be low population. Perhaps someone who still plays can chime in.
from what I have found so far the population is great, parties everywhere in cb/unrest/all the popular grouping spots so I ain’t worried about that
you get bonuses for leveling alts as expacs release so everyone’s doing it

you will see a great drop in population by the time planes of power rolls around. im not certain how good rogues and wizards are in gates of discord and beyond but you should absolutely play the fantasy you like as it makes the game much more enjoyable.
as the other anon mentioned, rogue will struggle to do anything alone. both classes are monsters of dps but they are also bottlenecked by the iq of your tank. a safer option would be to play something like mage or necro but i can't say for sure if you'll like their playstyles. monk is an option too if you enjoy pulling, otherwise dont touch it.
You should play a class that suits a playstyle you like.
Rogues start off bad but keep slowly getting better every exp until top tier. Wizards stay average throughout.
Some other options:
Mage and Necro start off OP the first expansions and then stay average after. Shamans, Rangers and Paladins are also average throught the expansions.
Mages may be better for solo play but they're so boring with their puny nukes and shitty damage shields. There's nothing more emasculating than playing a mage while a big dick gnome wizzy drops comets on homies next to you.
obviously people are using it on p99, but you would have to be an actual lobotomite to believe that something that is happening vs something that is encouraged are even remotely comparable. Also it doesn't matter anyway since showeq doesnt actually exist and its something I made up like this guy said
Yeah, go to the quarm thread on the p1999 forums you fricking moron. But if you really want to see it heavy handed join their discord. On their discord you can even hear about all of the other showeq derived goodies that are also going to be allowed on quarm. I don’t even know why you are pretending to care anyway, it’s not like it’s going to affect whether or not you play. You just want to try to convince yourself that it isn’t happening, gl with that. Like I said showeq is fake anyway I made it up it doesn’t exist. Enjoy quarm
Yeah dude it sounds like the guys running the show on Quarm are definitely encouraging people to use ShowEQ.

Sounds like he is planning on enforcing anti-cheat to a similar level as p99. It will be interesting to see how that pans out.

I am more cautiously optimistic after reading todays posts, but they still leave too much grey area (if it’s blatant, if it’s an issue, if it causes problems, we aren’t going to actively check for it, our stance isn’t solidified) instead of just saying hardline, if you use it you’re banned, period. Unfortunately selective enforcement is always going to exist which is a huge issue on p99 but maybe it won’t be as bad on quarm who knows.
its not that simple with time locked content, it has to be reimplemented in the titanium client. Also the TAKP source code that quarm is based off of hasn't even been public for that long
>its not that simple with time locked content
why not? they have NINE MONTHS in-between expansions which gives them plenty of time to get those ready. youre telling me they dont already have at least classic era ready to roll? >it has to be reimplemented in the titanium client
its not the titanium client, though.
I've been playing p99 for so long I forgot non-titanium clients exist. Either way, the TAKP source code that quarm is based on was only made available very recently. There are many changes that the team wants to make to the game that have to be implemented that affect all time periods including classic. It probably not about classic specifically not being ready, but rather just their overarching changes to the game in general. In fact I would be willing to bet that their current release time is too ambitious based on the current state of the beta unless they have people working on it full-time. So it isn't being held up by the stuff that is already 20 years old, but rather the stuff they are trying to implement, test, and fix that isn't 20 years old.
Imagine being mad that you have to actually play a video game. You know VRChat exists right? Or god forbid you meet people irl if you want to just “hang out”
im just mad project quarm is having NINE month long expansions. do these guys really think anyone wants to sit in classic and velious era for longer than 3? at least kunark and luclin have moronic amounts of grinding to maybe warrant 9 months
What about it? The only playable version of it is dogshit daybreak slop. There are people attempting to make a private server emu for it but that is still years away.
Frick EQ and P1999
https://shardsofdalaya.com/ >Shards of Dalaya (SoD) is a community driven emulated Everquest server which focuses on creating an experience similar to Everquest Live while providing new content, experiences and adventures. We have taken the best parts of Everquest and integrated them with entirely new lore and content. Over our ten years of development, we have hand made thousands of quests, NPCs, books, zones and pretty much every other part of our game. Further, Shards of Dalaya is absolutely free, and is run entirely by a passionate volunteer staff with support from the playerbase.
>We have done our best to keep the danger and challenge of the original Everquest while eliminating some of the hassles and tedium inherent in first generation MMORPGs. We have large epic raids, but we've slimmed them down to 18 players to make everyone absolutely vital to the raid instead of just another cog in a machine. Dungeons are there, full with nice loot, frogloks and challenging group content. We have ~170 zones with some 19000+ NPCs and 17000+ items, all created by our own developers. New content is constantly being created and implemented both by our staff and with the participation of our player community. Shards is essentially an entirely new game in the EQ client.
>play everquest >become officer because actual officers dont show up and im the only one willing to lead the cattle when this happens >autists b***hes about loot >other autists holds the raid up being late >decide to theme discord and loot tracker around a first grade class room >loot is now called juiceboxes >waiting for late people is now called nappy time >officer channel is now called principals office >the guild hall theme is a class room
>hit level 5, no one around, decide to look up if there's a common lowbie area >"go to Eastern Commons" >die to orcs who beat the shit out of me in high pass
Well, that's a walk tonight, i don't know if i can retrive my body before i get owned unless someone's killing everything in the zone. It may be easier to regear from scratch. (i'm a monk, i hope to god my fists can kill skeletrons)
>"go to Eastern Commons"
Terrible advice, as a Qeynos Monk you should be farming gnoll fangs in Blackburrow. You can turn them in to Captain Tillin for crazy XP.
Information on the Gnoll Fang quest i'm talking about:
https://wiki.project1999.com/Moonstones
i know about gnolls, part of it is just i want to see other people, right now i'm on eq99 and maybe i've seen 10 people who weren't booking it fast past in the distance.
>secrets wrote a whole paragraph about how characters feeling like game pieces was bad for the game and took away from the experience >of course account sharing is allowed, why wouldn’t it be? someone has to play all these cleric guild bots
Curious
Does anyone actually play this primitive horseshit? I remember seeing a guy play this back in 2001 and being so fricking jealous he had money and could play an MMO.
Yeah but Everquest is the most primitive of MMOs, being one of the first if not the first major MMO. I'd rather play some shit like Final Fantasy Online than even consider trying EQ in Current Year.
Well obviously they are different games. One is for homosexuals who like final fantasy and one is for homosexuals who like everquest. MMOs are all gay anyways and based on whether you like tranime or pretending to be an elf.
Almost all MMORPGs that are still live play nothing like the classic ones including the updated versions of those classic ones. That's the general appeal of private servers. EQ has its own unique flavor on top of that. FFXI can be played on Horizon and it's a cool classic experience but it's not much easier to get into compared to P99.
what are you guys gonna box on quarm? im thinking a cleric just for general ac buffs and rezzing but a druid could be useful too. >b-b-but thats against the rules
lol
I couldn’t imagine boxing anything other than a druid, bonus points if your main is a caster class since druids are an exceptional duo for casters anyway.
what are you guys gonna box on quarm? im thinking a cleric just for general ac buffs and rezzing but a druid could be useful too. >b-b-but thats against the rules
lol
Wizard + Druid is where it's at. A little boring but hey, that's EQ for ya.
I'm going to play an SSF Paladin and SK one at a time and keeping both of them within a level of each other.
I like playing MMOs solo, the added challenge makes it a lot more exciting, and makes your accomplishments feel more earned.
So I've never played actual classic, just kunark and beyond. Was thinking of doing a monk on quarm... any advice for starting a monk on a new server? What weapons should a monk be going for in classic? Do you basically just use fists?
Any of you guys interested in making a guild, either on p99 Green or Quarm?
Might make the grind a little more tolerable if we all had some bros we could reliably group up with and shoot the shit with.
there was a green guild called Fallen Leaves but not sure if it's still active. i've been dipping my toes back into green so i'd be open to it but i don't post on Ganker much anymore due to the moderation. i'll try to check back here later if i find myself playing a character and sticking with it. i have a couple of characters in the high teens but i kind of need to relearn the game before i start playing them again.
Anyone played a wizard in classic? I know they get more love in luclin/pop. Was thinking of going wiz since they are keeping pop wiz crits in for classic on quarm.
Also what are the chances of a name change/ban if I make a erudite wiz named Blackdamus?
server op of quarm is a troony - like for real, not just throwing the word around. not the sole reason i quit (this janky client is dogshit - troubleshooting ANYTHING is the epitome of 1 step forward 5 steps back) but good enough reason to. i will not be returning to the server nor will i ever play on servers run by trannies.
[...]
fact is, EQ was always opposed to meme names like that, even in classic.
I made an Ogre named Robert Paulson back in classic and when I'd walk thru a zone I'd get endless whispers and shouts in the zone of: "his name is robertpaulson", until a GM popped up and changed my name.
Didnt even last a day.
Disappointed was an understatement at the time, but in hindsight while the name was funny, it really didnt provide anything to the game experience.
I'd honestly rather be allowed to call someone a homosexual without being banned, like we did back then, than be able to have a funny/clever name.
The one thing I learned from playing 99 a while back tho, is you cant really go home.
The experience was as much about playing the game and dealing with the difficulty as it was researching the mechanics, quests and zones.
In an era of dial-up, it was like exploring a new world, rather than playing a game.
Playing 99 didnt provide that feeling, it felt like i was playing a game (esp with the 3rd person cam), and a shitty game at that.
i personally dislike pop culture names like that anyway. if you're gonna do some kind of meme or reference at least be clever about it and make it congruent with the setting.
>server op of quarm is a troony - like for real
After the hogwash that was ffxi horizon, ill take your word on this. Damn shame, too. The swamp was so populated. Can already see the choppiness in this, and just know its because the staff is too busy dilating to do their jobs at stabilizing hte server.
>hemorrhoid just got banded, desk has been converted to standed
I'm rolling an Ogre Shaman on Project Quarm. Was thinking gnome mage as an alt but research sounds fricking horrible early era. Hopefully we get at least 600+ people on Sunday and I can get alts 61+ for most classes before Secrets an heros.
Anyone know what the leveling path for non-morons who won't be stuck fighting over a single spawn in the newbie zone will be? Is mail running nerfed? Evil has shit EXP quests IIRC (fangs, bonechips, crushbone belts/pads, splitpaw scrolls are good races only?). I never played classic and only started playing Live in Kunark. I played the shit out of P99 but it was mostly nerfed there.
I guess the strat after that is to get into a dungeon group ASAP, save for spells/banded, and just level until I can camp a guise/manastone? The TAKP wiki and allaclone site have no quest information and are barebones as frick so I don't know what I should go out of my way to look for on the grind.
servers gonna lose a lot of people because secrets couldnt be bothered to fix something as basic as the camera bug. people's copium of "its not that bad..." will run out once they actually start playing for hours at a time
I think a lot of people are just going to suck it down because they promised the Evolution client imminently with the p99 camera. I think releasing on this client was a mistake instead of delaying until Christmas, but most people are interested in Luclin-POP era and are skipping launch entirely. I can't see myself being entertained by classic for 9 (!) months other than leveling alts and farming cash that will be overcamped. Kunark is where a lot of my favorite content starts coming in so as long as it is fixed by then...
First person works 100% for now and will be good enough for casual grouping, unless you are a sweaty enchanter soloing on a knifes edge and really need it.
9 month periods in-between expansions is way too long and people are delusional if they think they wont be bored in less than half that time. i can understand for maybe kunark or luclin since theres a lot to grind(10 new levels, epic weapons, aa's, contested drops to key into the hardest raid, etc) but not classic and velious where the former is all leveling content and the latter is all raid content. >just play first person mode
lol
lmao even
I know for myself I have no interest in starting over until I can make my BST, the only question is whether or not a roll a character earlier to farm plat for it. Going through the classic timeline is such a big miss when people are already sick of p99. For almost 3 years no less. What in the actual frick was quarm thinking.
Anyone played a wizard in classic? I know they get more love in luclin/pop. Was thinking of going wiz since they are keeping pop wiz crits in for classic on quarm.
Also what are the chances of a name change/ban if I make a erudite wiz named Blackdamus?
>hmm someone has drawn a line >let me get as close to possible while avoiding the outcome I can clearly foresee
He covered that in stream today using Erudite kangshit as an example of morons asking for a ban. If you have to ask then don't cry when you know what's coming.
fact is, EQ was always opposed to meme names like that, even in classic.

I plan on playing SK, just going to enjoy the ride to 30 then get my dream childhood items like guise, jboots, rubi bp, and a mana stone.
Then i'll either make a shaman or ranger and try to get 1 more guise before classic items go away but if I miss out on my alt I won't care, not too interested going above 30 this early so I'll just chill after that and do random dumb stuff like max out good faction rep as a ogre.
mage and necro because strong pet classes, the latter is king of soloing. shadowknight is the easiest tank to play. cleric is the easiest healer to play. most classes are fairly simple to get into and learn so you should play something you think is cool.
the only thing in eq with a high skill floor is pulling because you're expected to know how each camp works so you dont wipe your group which comes with experience.
Necro might be more for me than mage. Shadowknight would be cool but I think a clueless tank wouldn't be fun for the people who make the mistake of playing with me.
What classes are usually expected to do pulling? Should I avoid those?
What classes and races are even available at Quarm launch? The information about this server seems to be scattered all about the discord.
>Necro might be more for me than mage
necro is a evil class you will be kos in most of the cities. it sucks if you are a clueless noob >What classes are usually expected to do pulling?
druids and enchanters. and no don't play a puller if you are a noob
>Shadowknight would be cool but I think a clueless tank wouldn't be fun
well you learn by doing and people are always gonna want tanks. as long as you know what youre getting yourself into then its fine. >What classes are usually expected to do pulling? Should I avoid those?
tanks, monks or bards typically but any class can be a puller. enchanters, necros and even clerics are underrated pullers but theres a 99% chance youll never be asked to when playing one. >What classes and races are even available at Quarm launch?
everything thats on p99 except for iksar and beastlords which come out in kunark and luclin respectively
>everything thats on p99 except for iksar and beastlords which come out in kunark and luclin respectively
Thanks.
Will I be able to find parties if I play rogue or ranger?
>Will I be able to find parties if I play rogue or ranger?
yes, if you play rogue. probably not as a ranger unless the group desperately needs a puller. ranger is the opposite of noob friendly since its the worst class in the game until luclin.
>Shadowknight would be cool but I think a clueless tank wouldn't be fun
well you learn by doing and people are always gonna want tanks. as long as you know what youre getting yourself into then its fine. >What classes are usually expected to do pulling? Should I avoid those?

cast disease cloud on the target you want to tank
tell the group to CC everything else
grats you're tanking on SK

All of the pvp servers had lower populations than even the lowest pve server, and there were 4 pvp servers compared to like 15 pve servers. Also red and vztz were both colossal failures that nobody cared about. The upcoming takp pvp server will also be an enormous failure. EQ pvp is dogshit, no amount of cope will change that.

its clear its you dude. youre seething here
So other than Thex Dagger, Rubicite, Manastone, Guise, and Boxes of Abukar (GM event only here?) what are some items/quests I should get in on?
Server was taken down to boost dungeon mob spawn rate to keep the tubes from being clogged as per Discord but then he broke something and gave a 1 hr ETA, wish I had paid attention to that piece of shit so I could have exploited mail like everyone else.
Quarm obviously. P99 devs have been mia for years and Green was due for a refresh last year that we didn't get. Quarm has 2k+ people while green and blue are split between two servers at ~1600 during primetime.
>anyone I don't like is a troony
mental illness isn't good for you
client sucks but supposedly he's working on it, moronic to launch the server in this state but hey at least there's a frickton of people
his twitch page also has the tags "LGBT" and "Ally" and during the first of the of the server broke streams he was talking about banning someone because they "fetishized trans people" or some shit. plus his pngtuber avatar is a girly version of himself. he's a troony.
if you wanna play on a troony server that's your business but i have standards.
i'm fine with insane but i've had enough "frog and the scorpion" type scenarios with people like this that i'm happy steering clear. i'm not one of these obsessed psychos that will spam the thread because people are playing on his server, play wherever you want, just wanted to give a heads up. my issue with the server was more to do with the horrible client, the server owner's identity was just reason enough for me to know i don't need to waste my time looking back to see how it's doing in a few months.
The camera is still kinda fricked on the other client. Like if we compare it to P99. The third person makes the character way too high on the screen. Sure it doesn't jitter around but your visibility is trash. The chase camera works sort of like it does on the PQ client except doesn't lag. The problem is when you hold right mouse it doesn't act right but the good thing is that it allows you to use the extra adjustment that the camera settings have. I feel like if the devs cared they could put together a camera that works combining these features.
kind of my issue with p99 right now. i feel like it already achieved its goal of bringing back that core experience of classic and all of this other stuff like intentionally breaking QOL features and following along moronic patch notes/balance decisions is missing the point. it could be so much more than it is right now but it's being held back by this skewed vision. and a lot of what they constitute as "classic" is so arbitrary. and it's always having their cake and eating it too - they forced the "default UI" on everyone and did everything they could to prevent custom UIs because "classic" but couldn't be bothered to fix the real classic stone UI? the velious UI fricking sucks, if we're not playing with the actual fricking classic UI then why bother breaking custom UIs?
classic EQ was great because of the mechanics, not because the UI sucked ass or the controls were dogshit. but p99 devs seem to think the mechanics are secondary and the REAL reason classic was so great was because there was no tab targeting. it's gay and moronic.
>classic EQ was great because of the mechanics, not because the UI sucked ass or the controls were dogshit. but p99 devs seem to think the mechanics are secondary and the REAL reason classic was so great was because there was no tab targeting. it's gay and moronic.
This sort of false perception is sadly all too common in the pserver scene. I've dabbled into a lot of these old game private servers and in so many cases they're obsessed about keeping the entirely wrong things accurate. Far too often it's some skewed perspective of what they think is right no matter how far it is from reality. Of course if you're running the server you're free to do with it as you please but it really irks me how stupid these people can be.
Having a true classic server with the stone UI only would be cool but I doubt it would gather much players.
LanternEQ can't come out fast enough. I believe it will usher in a new era of EQ private servers.

Having a client made with Unity adds potential for customization and features like a modern camera will be easy to add. It will also be easier to run on modern systems. I don't know about the EQ server hosting side of things but I imagine it will be easier for the devs to deliver the client to the players in the state they want it to be in.
What worries me is that the client is currently closed source and they haven't stated if they will open source it later down the line. It risks it dying with the devs. If it were open source a server dev could open it in Unity and customize it to their liking. If it stays closed source everyone will be dependent on the Lantern devs to add the features and options people want.
Once feature complete, even in its closed source form it should be better than the clients we currently have available.

eq has always suffered from a dumpster client due to its age so that sounds pretty cool if it happens
>like intentionally breaking QOL features and following along moronic patch notes/balance decisions is missing the point.
Never underestimate autism. > the velious UI fricking sucks
Yeah that was pure shit and I haven't a clue why they forced it on people. >but p99 devs seem to think the mechanics are secondary and the REAL reason classic was so great was because there was no tab targeting.
Ultimately comes down to a mixture of said autism and paranoia. They feel these will filter people out or some shit. Like some shit added post-Luclin was shit that the community wanted for a very fricking long time like shared banks. Nobody liked dropping shit on the ground for one of their other characters to pick it up and always having that fear someone will snatch it while they're relogging.
If they want all the god awful cons of classic EQ, maybe they should add those "surprise" maintenance shutdowns that would occur at random by Verant/SoE back in the day.
it's literally 100% you will get it as long as you hit 30, I used the lvl command at end of beta to farm and test it.
it now has a 50% droprate and it 100% drops after a quake, I got one every single kill and this was BEFORE they buffed the respawn rate of assassin.
It's going to legit chain rot at some point because everyone will have it easily.
I think it's a good thing as guise doesn't really alter power but the old world is going to be a joke with EVERYONE having rubi bp, manastone and jboots.
I want to be very clear, I don’t support troonys. I simply play in first person. On live, p99 and the troony server. I play in first person because I’m not a filthy casual.
bro stfu even back in the late 90's as a kid I would use the birds eye camera to see how cool my character looked doing double attacks while dual wielding.

It’s cooler to see your character swing in first person action. You would know if you weren’t such a casual.

Before I learned about F9 I played in first person for months as a kid, issue was almost every 3D adventure game was from a first person perspective so it was played out already when the game was relevant.

you missed out then. MMORPGs are all memories of me playing a game because of third person.
EQ however, my memories are of me actually doing that shit, because it was in first person.
I remember being a human necro and a halfling druid. I did that shit

I only play in first person. I’m by no way defending the troony. I’ll be playing p99 tonight knowing that it is a troony server. I’m calling all those that don’t play in first person a casual. Simple as.
Compared to FFXI >way more freedom of movement >combat is more boring for some classes (melee mostly), more engaging for others (hybrids, some casters) >dungeon design is far better in EQ, especially when it comes to hunting named monsters for drops >graphics and music are better in FFXI (though EQ does have its charms) >fewer quality of life things at first (no homepoint crystals, have to get a caster to bind you. EXP loss on death, no airships, no chocobos) >EQ's lore doesn't take itself quite as seriously
As for classes you're pretty much looking at >Tank
Warrior (main), paladin/shadowknight (fine in parties, won't get to do much in raids) >Melee DPS
Rogue, Monk, Ranger >Ranged DPS
Wizard, Necromancer, Magician >Healers
Cleric, Shaman, Druid in a pinch, Necromancer if your party is desperate and the Necro isn't a moron >Crowd Control/Support
Enchanter, Bard. Anyone with root can help but these are the dedicated guys.
Clerics, Bards, and Enchanters are always in high demand particularly since Bard and Enchanter are very good at soloing. Necro, Druid, Magician, and Wizard are also good at soloing but groups aren't usually going out of their way to find any of them.
yes, quarm is also way more accurate to the real game in terms of gameplay while having QoL that adapts to the original devs vision. So for example the shitty hybrid penalty, brad mcquad himself posted on allakhazam around 2001 stating they thought hybrids needed penalty's because they would end up being extremely powerful but later realized that wasn't the case and classes with bonuses or no penalty ended up being minmax shit.
Difference is you've been using his netcode and programming for over a decade, he's literally the reason P99 works and is credited on their site.
That's the only reason I'm not worried about it, he's been in the scene for a long time with zero issues.

no. does the FFXI scene have a shitty server with a janky client that sucks ass to use? because that's what quarm is.
doesn't quarm have more players currently?
only because it's fresh. the numbers probably won't be comparable in the long term.
I can decide what to play. I'm not really into the full spell casting classes so I've narrowed it down to >warrior >rogue >ranger >shadowknight
as a Wood Elf or a Dark Elf.
I haven't played much Everquest but I wanna give it a proper shot now that there's a fresh server. I got the impression that starting out as a Dark Elf is difficult because of the factions.
warrior and rogue are pretty gear reliant. all melees are really but at least ranger and SK you have spells and stuff. i'd recommend a SK out of all that. you could also consider a bard, they have a reputation for being swarm kiters but that's completely optional.
>I got the impression that starting out as a Dark Elf is difficult because of the factions.
yes, religion also plays a role in it as well. an evil god worshiping human cleric can actually get around pretty much everywhere with fewer problems than a DElf cleric worshipping the same god would. worth considering as a new player. not sure how this plays out for SKs though and the religion options they have.
honestly it's not some insurmountable obstacle, plenty of people started with a DElf as their first character back in the day, but it limits your options in terms of where you can do business and there's always the possibility there'll be some random NPC somewhere 20 levels above you that hates your ass for being blue.

cool and you can't bind strafe to keys or use wineq for a stable framerate/windowed mode so who gives a shit?
awful idea on a server where 5% of the pop will actually raid. unless youre a poopsocking neet, its just going to be a miserable experience for no pay off
solid dps, even before kunark since melee dps are indirectly buffed on quarm. they cant solo at all but that is sort of the point of this game
worst class in the game by far until luclin, then arguably the best dps
pretty good for all aspects of the game except raids where theyre merely tolerated as off tanks or to buff the actual tanks with a tps modifier. groups always need tanks so you'll probably get your dick sucked a lot
honestly the politics of raiding and what classes do what is irrelevant to 99% of the people that ask class questions like this anyway, i'd consider what day-to-day leveling and grouping would be like more than anything else.
>you can't bind strafe to keys or use wineq
the quarm client is so dogshit. how they managed to be less functional than p99 of all servers is beyond me. why did the guy in charge think the camera bug wasnt an issue?
do programmers play the type of games they like to develop at all? this was probably the biggest deal breaker for me because im not going back to bronze age functionality just because some boomer who doesnt actually play thinks its good game design.
the guy in charge shows up to a livestream wearing a dress to make an interview about his server about his crossdressing fetish instead just daring anyone to make fun of him for it so he can cry 'transphobia', of course he's gonna not gonna think the camera bug is that big of a deal.

Tempted as a Dark Elf Shadowknight seems cool but the downside here is that I already played a bit starting in Gfay and it would be really nice to be able to transfer those starting items and plat over. It would make those early levels a bit faster.
Rolling a warrior on a fresh server is probably the most manly thing you can do. Be a man.
Even if the character I make would be a Wood Elf female? This plate looks so good.

pets can take xp if they deal enough damage so pure damage dealers are a more attractive choice for xp groups. enchanters dont have the same monopoly with charm pet in groups as they once did

Thanks for the insights. I went with a rogue as I thought people would have less expectations of me in a party. Hide and sneak seem like useful tools for a new player.
Figured out there was a shortcut to Lfay so I got some stuff transferred over. Level 1 Rogue with a bare ass ready to grind shit.
>does the FFXI scene have a shitty server with a janky client that sucks ass to use?
That's pretty much FFXI pservers. The client is janky as hell as it was designed for controllers. Mouse aim basically isn't a thing.
its an underrated tank. most people dont like playing it because it doesnt do any damage but it's arguably the best tank for xp groups. it loses value with a cleric in the group, but makes groups running a shaman or druid much, much better.
not really. you're limited to places with a lot of undead just to actually do any damage and even then you're at the mercy of your mana pool. shadowknight is much better suited to getting stuff done on their own since they have dots, lifetaps, snares, fears, a pet and even feign death.
Is it any good for soloing? I do still mostly want to do group exp farming but being able to solo is nice.
SK also has self invisibility which is extremely convenient for both solo and group play. Invis vs undead and soothe are okay but having the real thing without potions is much better.
with that said paladin has more ability to drag a group through a tough battle.
the knights have such a great contrast. its funny how everquest never made more than 3 tanks because the design between them all was basically perfected
Yes, but it's mostly pserver whinging over Horizon. Quarm/Horizon/Turtle many similarities.
i don't even know if turtle has any confirmed trannies on staff, they're just power tripping losers with the way they run the server, GMs basically make up rules on the fly so they always have an excuse to flex their GM power because of how pathetic they are. you can tell these are complete failures that have nothing else going on in their lives, they find the power intoxicating to use. haven't had that kind of issue on any EQ server yet.
>these are complete failures that have nothing else going on in their lives, they find the power intoxicating to use
this is the tldr of every private server staff member ever
another great example of moronic classic decisions: in velious they put high level undead mobs in the freeport sewers so low level evil characters can't get into the city. they did this for no reason. and because MUH CLASSIC this change stands regardless of how moronic it is
>acknowledging that the people being called moronic must have actual mental disabilities so must be defended
kek. but seriously you fricking morons how hard is it to just shut the frick up and not be mean?
it won't stop here. at the beginning of the week it was banning for "fetishizing trans people", today it's banning for saying moron, next week there'll be another reason you have to walk on eggshells. i'm sure they'll start snooping in whispers, party and guild chat as well. just not worth it. you will be banned for no reason at some point. it's just how these people are. it's never enough for them, there's always some new crusade they have to be on because twitter said so. exactly why i dumped this server as soon as i learned this dude was a troony.
it's not like tells are encrypted comms my dude, learn some OPSEC if you're gonna say shit that will piss off the guy who owns the server. Jesus man this victim mentality gets old.
>how hard is it to just shut the frick up and not be mean?
not at all hard but when asked about how the reports will be handled he referred to rules but also went on to say that there have been exceptions
so you can't even count on getting a warning if you happen to offend some thin skinned liberal frickwad by accident, you might just get banned outright depending on what the staff feels like that day
it's more what these sort of takes stand for than having any issue acting properly in game as I have never been banned
shame because aside from the camera the client is good and the server on a mechanical level seems pretty good as well

this does not happen lmao, I play multiple games and plenty of discussion still happens in-games.

Uh oh
I kinda lost my interest after these Project Faceless gays tried to turn it into a modern MMO race tarding everything from TLP. I was only level 11 when they were in their mid 30s spamming mages and in-group trading camps. Losing interest is one thing but losing trust in some alphabetard not to go full gestapo is kind of a red line.
i've known secrets for a long time and played games with secrets outside of everquest, so i'm not sure why these people are pretending that secrets isn't a troony - it's not a secret or a joke
secrets' real issue is mania. i give it a few weeks of raid disputes before secrets freaks out and bans half the endgame guilds or just pulls the plug entirely
>lets a shit load of homosexuals get free blackened iron then randomly nerfs it without removing ill gotten gains >now slows down all spawns when prime time is about to hit for most popular U.S time zone
yeah secrets is a fricking moron
Yeah game is unplayable right now with congestion. Not going to waste my friday on this shit when only off hours get spawn rates. His shitty 1 server VPS can't handle it lmao.
lol, lmao even. they are completely different games
It's not Daybreak, as much as its EG7 - their new owner past few years - that has likely a different stance on how they tolerate emulated servers, especially after purchasing DB from Inception Acquisitions in 2020. Honestly at least they're in communication with each other rather than a C&D being sent the moment a new server goes online.
lol, lmao even. they are completely different games
aren't TLP servers just modern retail EQ but with the content locked? that's not really 'classic'. unless whoever's running things now intends on jumping on the hardcore hype train and are gonna do their own version of classic. which frankly i'd welcome if it were the correct classes and races and balancing etc. but with basic qol stuff the morons at p99 broke on purpose or are too inept to provide.
Is this shit worth playing if you have no friends to play? I think the idea of EQ is great, but I never been able to play with a group.
there are classes that can solo fine but the game shines in group play.
I don't think people even got to the grind because there's no mobs to kill on the popular starting areas
wasn't it only qeynos and gfay he did it for? halas and nektulos were completely barren when i was on.
Where the frick should I be leveling as a 10 mage? Gfay is getting old.
you could have started crushbone a few levels ago. i think at 12 you could start doing minotaurs in steamfront. but if you're on quarm they might be too busy.
https://wiki.project1999.com/Per-Level_Hunting_Guide could always check this. if you're on quarm YMMV with the 'good' spots as i imagine a lot of other players have used this guide as well.

if p99 keeps its museum ethos of "it's shitty on purpose" then they might survive.
TLPs are a joke, avoid them at all cost, only morons or no life boomers who want to box 5 mages play them.
They're also P2W because they have krono enabled which is basically the WoW token, multiboxing pet classes monopolize rare spawns and offer the drops to people willing to trade krono so if you want a manastone early you could run a lvl 1 to evil eye give the multiboxing shithead like 3 krono and he will trade it to you on the spot.
People haven't boxed mages on TLPs for like 10+ years, truebox prevents boxing in general though yea some use multi computers but its not common and krono prices are so cheap in classic/kunark that you can literally exp in sebilis for a night, vendor your gems and have enough plat just from that to buy a krono its great honestly.

The troony devs were picking favorites with their friends booking them up with the best gear. Once people were farming crystals and making good money, the troony devs got angry that the cis folk were catching up, so they nerfed crystal drops. The moment they did that they ruined the server. Not to mention how unstable the game is. The tyranny devs were so busy dilating that half the zones would drop and everyone in them would go link dead.

WoW has churned out abunch of anti social morons who expect to hit a button to insta get a group or just join one.
The upside to this is if you're not a little b***h you basically can create a group on a whim no matter what class you play because 90% of the population is too afraid to start picking people up and build one.
Yes it's the same problem in WoW, I've bothed play (sadly) for a long time.
WoW is literally the EQ formula casualized both populations are highly related.
You don't know how often I'll build a camp group here and droves of solo's run by, stand in front of us for 5 minutes then run off, or they show up stand there then call us "buttholes" because we didn't magically invite them randomly.

you can blame wow, thats fair. if you ask me, those people are just lazy c**ts that exist in pretty much all mediums. most of my time spent playing eq in the recent years is watching people try to get away with as much as they possibly can to leech in groups.

All dime a dozen classes here kick their asses if your paying attention and watch them seethe.

me when I'm trying to find a party and I start questioning if I'm doing something wrong because I never get invited for anything

I have three characters at this point because I start second guessing myself every time I hit that point of no party invites
everyone at some point has a no invite session even tanks and healers
the only other option is to be a solo class, no class will get you 100% invite uptime each session varies, one day you could play your healer and there happens to be 10 other healers in your range LFGing as well, same with dps and tanks.
Build your own group holy shit, lmao.
Not even tanks and healers get random invites there's 100's of each class in every lvl range you need to be active either TALK to people or create your own group.
How feasible is it to farm a 200 wis set in classic? kinda want a druid alt but I remember it was a b***h to get quad kite ready on P99 (not that there would be anywhere other than dock dwarves).
soooo.. im a newbie :3 and well I don't really know what the FRICK people expect of me.. I haven't been in a party yet cuz of social awkwardness xP *holds up spork of power* but will ppl expect me to do those SUPER HERO NINJA MOVES (WACHAW!! *does poses*) or will I get cut some slack since I'm wack? xD :3
hey so in retail if I'm a fresh face, never played before, f2p, etc do you have to actually do things in each expansion, or is it like WoW where every expansion is left behind in favor of the new one and the other thing they offer is levelling up
Worse thing is he hasn't even acknowledged it, it happened and he legit never responded to the thousands of complaints in discord, just went on about how he is "taking the night off" and "having folks over" people called him out for not responding about spawns and taking the time to type on discord about his shit life and he just went on a rant about being tired and on his phone.
I might stop at lvl 14 at the moment I think this server will either get plug pulled by secrets himself or the population will be akabar tier at a measly 200 at primetime in the future.
Might be better to wait for Green 2.0 even though the list system is fricking barbaric
As fricked as it is I've enjoyed most of my time playing. I think I'm gonna play until I get bored or the server implodes, it's not like I'm trying that hard so it's gonna be fine whatever happens. Not really interested in Green 2.0 the p99 devs are too autistic.
tbh im just gonna wait for the next mischief tlp. sure, it has its own problems but at least i dont have to worry about the server disappearing over night. plus id actually get to raid
>discord about his shit life and he just went on a rant about being tired and on his phone.
Always a redflag with a server owner of any kind to do this immediately. We all have our shit days, but he should've known to be on high alert for an entire week during the launch of a much anticipated server.
probably needed to invite his troony friends over to reinforce his insanity bubble where he gets to think he's a woman because all the stress from the server was about to break it
Anyone who wants to use redguides and or macroquest play on Rizlona. The server was made and advertised for it. You can openly use it and nobody cares as long as you don't cause drama.
its a TLP entering VoA on Thursday, its not a truebox so you box as much as you want, it has mercs if you wanna use em, and the server has a healthy population ( at the high end, don't expect to find people to level with )
>check quarm discord >people chatting normally, playing the server, giving feedback, submitting fixes/tweaks go the git >check /vm/ >AAARRRGGGHHH TROOOOOOONS ITS OVER ITS OVER ITS OVER SERVERS DYING THE TROOOOOONNSSS THE TROOOONS EXPLOIT NOW EXPLOIT NOW THE SERVER IS DYING TOMORROW EVERYONE IS LEAVING
really makes me noggin joggin
that's the best part, its not a competition 🙂 we have a healthy playerbase on p1999 and quarm! not to mention everquest 3 announced to be starting development, and the 25th and 20th anniversary coming up for EQ1 and EQ2, it's never been a better time to be playing EQ!
>not to mention everquest 3 announced to be starting development
Yeah two more weeks and EQ Next will be a thing bros! Oh and they haven't announced jackshit.
Ok I read into this, apparently its in the "Ideation Phase" aka not close to development since they're not even sure what they wanted it to be yet.
https://tagn.wordpress.com/2023/09/21/enad-global-7-and-vague-promises-of-a-new-everquest-title-maybe-in-2028/
And I should point out the poultry "$30m+" which even back in the 2000's was small budget wise. Vanguard Saga of Heroes had a budget that small and is one of the reasons the game was not done in any way back in 2007 (well, outside of Brad's horrid managing). And 3 years is not enough time for development. It took WoW five years and $63 million to develop, with the last year being focused entirely ironing out issues and removing as many bugs as possible game. Which was the winning formula for WoW and why so many publishers who wanted to compete with it failed to do so due to the time/money investment.

that's the number they're starting with, not the upper limit.
whenever i think i want to play everquest, i watch a video or stream and remember that 90% of the game is sitting waiting for mana regen or spawns because the protoboomers who made this game thought people would spend that time RPing like it was D&D
this. the appeal of the game was the novelty of playing and socializing with thousands of people. that is no longer a novelty and the actual gameplay is boring as frick.
Old school runescape doesnt even count as a revival anymore seeing as they change everything anyways, which is why people still play it, even if they add homosexual shit and retcon the quests.
private server dev is a very hard job, xhe needs a mental health break this weekend, stop bothering xer about it or you'll get permabanned from the server
>first creation event drops orbs that do massive damage to him >wipe on him and still have orbs from that attempt >decide to use them next attempt >he death touches the whole raid and system messages the server that we cheated
>I haven't played in two days. Are the starting zones still full and impossible to kill anything in or find parties that aren't full 24/7?
That starts around 8 or so where the casual jump is.
I can't say I know how the editing of the eqclient.dll goes but since they seem to have the knowhow it should be a rather simple logic change to fix the camera and it wouldn't be that much more work to make it better than what p99 has
You can download the live client and play on the test server for free (with all the paid benefits) and you start in a tutorial area where it somewhat teaches you about the game. Otherwise your options are realistically p99 or Quarm. I recommend watching a stream of somebody playing Quarm and see if the camera stuttering bothers you - if it doesn’t then play quarm but if it does then play p99. Unfortunately as it stands the low level experiences of both servers couldn’t be further apart, quarm has so many low levels you can barely find anything to kill, while p99 is going to require you to run the standard leveling gamut without much deviation. Pick your poison.
so you didnt actually fix anything you just circumvent the issue by playing like a scrub

I guarantee you 99% of the people in Quarm right now know the ins and outs of classic EQ and likely have a legion of alts on P99 Blue and Green.
i didn't say you have to go as fast or slow as i am, i only question why you would do that considering the speed at which new content will be released. we aren't even getting the hole for 6 months.
mainly legacy items
not really rushing I get my rest at night but also a neet so I can play all day.
In my mid 20's now but I'm going to go full casual when I scoop rubicite and manastone I probably shouldn't have started with my main melee main but at the same time I've been loving the journey and made tons of friends already.
I was originally gonna go pet class and rush 35 but it's so soulless in comparison.
Isn't rubicite also limited by level? I recall secrets talking about some shitty FV loot rule on them. What level should I be in cazic trying to group for that shit anyway or is it horrible pathing and casters through walls like p99 was?
Somehow managed to guess my password for my two-decade-old retail account. Pretty neat to see how much the game has changed. The game is obviously much easier now, and I haven't even tried using mercenaries yet.
There's a lot of QOL changes that I like, and a lot of stuff that I don't like (what the frick happened to Freeport and the Commonlands), but I don't hate it as much as I thought I would.
How much farming do you have to do to afford Krono? I see people on my server are buying it for 5 million, that seems like it would take months of non-stop farming to reach.
>How much farming do you have to do to afford Krono?
since you're effectively on the same level as a new player, on live servers you cannot. on time locked expansion servers you can farm a few if you manage to get in early. multiboxing and botting has made live servers nearly impossible to get krono on because of the inflation of raw plat generated by bots.
>The game is obviously much easier now
I remember back when WoW and EQ2 came out in 2004 and my server's population plummeted to where grouping while leveling was just a lot harder to come by. Honestly when a world expands, the population goes down and the leveling/AA/whatever gets exceedingly more complicated, than yes, the ability to have an easier time getting to cap should be there. >lot of stuff that I don't like (what the frick happened to Freeport and the Commonlands),
The revamped zones in mid-late 2000's are a mixed bag. Commonlands/Ro/Freeport all got a revamp in 2006 with the Prophecy of Ro expansion, the only big gripe is that PoR Freeport is putrid, granted the city was meant to play an important role in that expansion, but you can tell the person incharge was not familiar with player city design. The aesthetic for CL is a bit too arid and the houses are way too tropical. I do like other zones though, Nek 3.0 (yes, there was a 2.0 that came with Depth of Darkhollow quickly removed in months due to its quality), Innuthule Swamp, Toxxulia Forest are all great revamps that don't undermine the OG layout. But its very jarring when you go from one revamp zone to one stuck in 1999 because of the visual whiplash. Part of this is because of probably vocal minority fan backlash who just fixated on this topic and just due to the inexperienced level designers initially tackling the revamps back when many devs were tasked with making EQ2. People will always point out the low, but there is a high. Karanas imo were always the most worthy of a revamp, still the ugliest zones in the OG game since the 32x32 textures were stretched out far further over landscapes 3x larger than most other zones. pic related

I remember when plat initially became out of control around the era of PoP-GoD. Made it impossible for newcomers to buy shit and usually they only got things from veterans willing to give out freebies.
it doesn't help that modern veterans are so disconnected from ever being a newb that even today when new players looking to even just tour the game ask questions about the bots and economy and ask how to buy stuff they get shit like "whippersnappers just aren't used to a game that demands effort from ya.." completely unable to process how nightmarish live is for a new player without a veteran funneling money and gear to you. don't even get me started on the "free" content new players get to try before they decide to dump a not-insignificant amount of money into the game.
That type of naive gatekeeping has been around for almost 20 years now.
I remember when Vanguard Saga of Heroes was made free to play and had a hub for newbie players, like 2-3 years in, and level capped veterans screeched at the idea on news articles and forums that their dead failure of a game had the audacity to allow newcomers come into play it, because god forbid you at least try to keep the game up and running by getting even a small number of players to try it out.
From everything I can gather about modern EQLive, is that its completely reliant on whales with 12 subscribed accounts to box to their hearts content hence why it has 70k subscribers. First thing I saw when I logged in and toured PoK was a little legion of them bundled up together.
Lonely attention prostitutes also multiboxed raid forces in WoW while walking around in newbie areas because they have no friends. It's not just an EQ Live problem. Not that it matters because that shit only caters to the mentally ill.

it's funny that at some point we went from expecting young kids playing games to be the morons into it being the boomers who've gotten too slow to play or are too distracted by irl constantly to play proper
it's honestly more likely someone in your party will die at their keyboard than you'd run into a young person playing eq. i say that as a 24 year old, I know I'm like a unicorn in the EQ scene.
I'm 34 and even I'm young in many of their eyes aka was 10 when EQ initially came out.

Yeah pretty much. Very reason why they think EQ is difficult in their eyes. God knows how many countless times i heard EQ was someones first and only game they ever played.

considering how many morons struggle to keep people buffed, it is in fact a difficult game for them

Part of that might also be because of how slow moving the game is. Even Brad Mcquaid commented about this back around the time of SoL how people would read specific books during downtime between fights and how that might've taken it a bit far. So the idea of people being distracted during rest and buffs being missed isn't too far fetched.

jesus christ why there's so many trannies in every single mmo these days. even the old ones like vanilla wow, eq or L2 is insane
MMOs just happen to have the intersection of a lot of traits that make someone at high risk for trooning out. same reason why the speedrunning community is like half troons now. hobby that attracts autists, extremely online autists that have little to no ability to discern how their image IRL comes across to others, it's all but illegal to criticize someone who falls under this identity category for any reason so it's basically a blank check to do whatever you want with no consequences, there are literal HRT "cults" that revolve around gaslighting lonely unpopular young men to transition, we're in a highly feminized society that prizes (and fetishizes) femininity and demonizes anything remotely masculine, we've reached a new stage of capitalist decline where now corporations claim they can change your sex. take your pick.
i guess we just have to hope Secrets isn't promising guys playing girl elves that he'll give them free items if they start injecting HRT.

if you know what your rep starts at you can do a little math to figure out how many quest turnins or kills you'll need to nudge it a particular direction, the p99 wiki usually has that kind of info or at least guestimates from other players on what their race/class were and how many turnins they needed to advance their faction standing.

>TLP >lmao
I never played EQ before TLP so confining myself to just a fraction of the game's history would be stupid.
Been going at it since Classic and now through to Veil of Alaris. Got an active dramaless guild of level-headed people who are mostly 35+ yo. Having a blast overall. One of the best gaming decisions I've ever made.
Not him, but do TLP's utilize classic zones before changing them when their respective expansions come out with their revamps versions? Like Freeport with Ro's Prophecy? I know it didn't do that for the TLP in 2011, but maybe that's changed.
That's cool you're having fun though. To each their own. I will mention that Veil of Alaris is one of the last expansions underneath SoE before they got bought and downsized in early 2015. Even then I'm sure you noticed that expansions get smaller little by little.
>do TLP's utilize classic zones before changing them when their respective expansions come out with their revamps versions?
Nope. If the zone had been revamped at some point the only version accesible will be the revamped one. However, if the same zone has different versions for different expacs (e.g., ye olde Feerrott and House of Thule Feerrott) then both will be accessible. You'll just have a choice of which one you want to go to before you zone in. >I will mention that Veil of Alaris is one of the last expansions underneath SoE before they got bought and downsized in early 2015. Even then I'm sure you noticed that expansions get smaller little by little.
Haven't noticed that honestly. Probably because I didn't pay attention and explore much of the lower level catch-up zones from the previous expacs.
Like, half of the whole TSS content is for characters in the 1-60 level brackets, the whole section above the sea of the TBS was aimed at lower level and weaker geared chars to catch up. With HoT and now VoA all the content is aimed straight at level capped people so if they had to cut the low-mid level content it's pretty neglibigle to me.
Though I always found it kind of a cool design idea that even if you're not up to speed when a new xpac arrives you still get something new and exciting.
>If the zone had been revamped at some point the only version accesible will be the revamped one
That's a shame since the Freeport one is horrendous. I don't mind revamped zones, or at least the concept of it, but how they went about it in 2006 for Freeport was putrid tbh.

I had never seen the pre-revamp Freeport but I agree that it's very uncomfortable to be in. My least favorite of classic cities to find myself around.
Other revamped zones look and play fine though. Wish the rest of the classic zones would get the same treatment or at least the FRICKING KARANAS.

I suggest trying out P99 or just pop on an emulated server on a EQ Emulator to get an idea what it looked like. It was probably the best designed city in the game in the OG client hence why it was a hub before PoK. The new Freeport was made around the time SoE was shifting developer resources over to EQ2 and you could tell lot of new blood was added to bolster the ranks of EQ1's team. >Other revamped zones look and play fine though.
Innuthule, Nektulos Forest and Toxxulia Forest I think are fine examples of how to revamp zones on a 1:1. I like North/South Ro as well, especially the music added to them. Commonlands not so much due to the aesthetic choices (straw huts for inns/trading outposts, blinding grass) and downsizing the scale of the NRO/Auction hill tunnel.
And I think it was redesigns like this that unfortunately allowed the harsher critics on forums to overcome any future plans for older zones to be redeveloped. Which if it was up to me, EQ1 should've just had all their old zones revamped in mid 2000's.
>lmao
at least you can still see all the content on tlps. meanwhile p99(and soon quarm) is a dead end if you ever make it to max level because everything is permacamped by the same 2 top guilds
i think the "classic" thing is something the devs push more than the community. literally no one asked these homosexuals to break custom UIs on Green's launch and they did it anyway.
i don't think the game really needs new content like new zones, it just needs balance and technical changes. i could see adding some dungeons for certain level brackets or something though.
the devs definition of classic is always half-assed which makes them arbitrarily ban or change some things and allow others
8 months ago
Anonymous
i don't get what's so hard about providing 'classic' as an option to those that want it and let everyone else play with the client as provided, it would make more sense than the current paradigm of "download 7 external programs to restore functions the game plays better with that were intentionally broken". it's not like we're talking about some autistic top tier of players or anything min maxing for some tiny advantage over everyone else, everyone uses all these programs and recommends them all the time so it's clear the majority of the playerbase wants to play with those features enabled anyway.
> literally no one asked these homosexuals to break custom UIs on Green's launch and they did it anyway.
The Velious UI was and is straight up bad. Using command prompts to open shit up is fricking awful. They might as well include random downtimes out of the fricking blue with no warning while they're at it to truly give that authentic EQ experience from "back in the day" Oh and artificially create dial up latency between players since very few people had broadband 99-2000.
Granted, EQ's UI has never been great, outside of the OG Stone GUI, it always was an excel sheet that wasn't easy to get into unless you put time into understanding its tools. They never could get someone in to make a proper intuitive UI which is one of the very reasons why as a franchise it had its hurdles and was unable to bring new people in especially the post-WoW period. >i don't think the game really needs new content like new zones,
If it were up to me I'd revamp a lot of zones, especially the western side of Antonica and make early dungeons meaningful. Why bother with Befallen when you can just xp grind nonstop respawning crocs in Oasis, especially when they're so close to each other.

>The Velious UI was and is straight up bad.
that's the main reason them breaking custom UIs pissed me off, there was no reason for it, it was just petty, especially considering the actual classic stone ui is still bugged on p99. >If it were up to me I'd revamp a lot of zones, especially the western side of Antonica and make early dungeons meaningful.
agreed, there are plenty of zones no one ever touches because they suck ass and there's no reason to go to them. we really don't need "new" content along the lines of more zones.

Yes, playing MMOs by yourself is pretty dumb
>people were already saying this 20+ years ago
>its only gotten worse with time as people grow more and more autistic
Feels pretty damn bad.
I always enjoy playing MMOs alone to see how well I can handle content designed for multiple people by myself. Or other assorted special limitations.
>The social aspect of this game is the most important part.
This is why EQ will never be worth playing again. The internet and society in general was a different beast back then. You generally had more well-adjusted and better behaved people and a huge cost of entry on top of it.
I wanna go back.
its combat is a lot better than it's given credit for, because most players do nothing but grind on trash.
Most of the community following it left.
>project quarm is unironically going to have 9 month long expansions
they think they do, but they dont
>having to wait two and halfish years to play a Beastlord that isn't a boxxing/dead/TLP server
Geez, I'm not feeling so good now.
i hear you fellow bst enjoyer
There's nothing more emasculating than playing a mage while a big dick gnome wizzy drops comets on homies next to you.
>quarm is not only going allow ShowEQ, but actually encourages its use and using it will be the norm
PoP-bros I don't feel so good...
whats showEQ and why is this a problem?
since you can't be bothered to use google, its nothing. just play game and go back to sleep
so you're just full of shit, got it
Do you seriously think people aren't using showeq on p99 too?
obviously people are using it on p99, but you would have to be an actual lobotomite to believe that something that is happening vs something that is encouraged are even remotely comparable. Also it doesn't matter anyway since showeq doesnt actually exist and its something I made up like this guy said
>encouraged
You keep saying that, but do you have any proof?
Yeah, go to the quarm thread on the p1999 forums you fricking moron. But if you really want to see it heavy handed join their discord. On their discord you can even hear about all of the other showeq derived goodies that are also going to be allowed on quarm. I don’t even know why you are pretending to care anyway, it’s not like it’s going to affect whether or not you play. You just want to try to convince yourself that it isn’t happening, gl with that. Like I said showeq is fake anyway I made it up it doesn’t exist. Enjoy quarm
Yeah dude it sounds like the guys running the show on Quarm are definitely encouraging people to use ShowEQ.
go read Secrets wishywashy ass replies about showeq in the p1999 thread that he posted a few hours ago
Unfortunately selective enforcement is always going to exist which is a huge issue on p99 but maybe it won’t be as bad on quarm who knows.
i still have no idea why showeq matters. did you really expect to stand a chance against poopsocking autists camping the named you want otherwise?
>project quarm still in "beta"
honestly though what are they waiting on? the game is over 20 years old. what is there to test?
its not that simple with time locked content, it has to be reimplemented in the titanium client.
I'm going to play a SSF Paladin and SK in tandem so I won't be starved for grinds, that's for sure.
>join quarm's discord to check it out
>owner of the project has pronouns listed as she/them
lmao enjoy your troony server
secrets is married and a huge troll. its still poor taste but the guy is far from being considered a troony
not the same guy, but I take it you have never actually spoken to Secrets, then
what about ever quest 2?
What about it? The only playable version of it is dogshit daybreak slop. There are people attempting to make a private server emu for it but that is still years away.
why is it slop?

EQ pvp is about as bad as it gets
What is actually the point of PVP in mmos with no slasher mechanics?
>account sharing confirmed ok on quarm
Unfortunate, enjoy your perma camps locked down by one guild forever.
its everquest without any instancing so such was inevitable
You do know that there is very little actual pvp on red because 80% of the pop is in 1 guild right? It’s unironically more casual than green/blue.
Frick EQ and P1999
https://shardsofdalaya.com/
>Shards of Dalaya (SoD) is a community driven emulated Everquest server which focuses on creating an experience similar to Everquest Live while providing new content, experiences and adventures.
Shards is essentially an entirely new game in the EQ client.
on paper it's a nice idea but in practice these are always full of "totally original donut steel not a self insert weeb fantasy" tier content
??? it's really not
Alright, anon, you get one chance to redpill us on this, do speak about this server.
>multibox allowed, botting allowed
Nobody cares
>rmt discussion shut down IMMEDIATELY on discord
Shitbox confirmed, its gonna be an rmt-ridden shithole just like p99
>play everquest
>become officer because actual officers dont show up and im the only one willing to lead the cattle when this happens
>autists b***hes about loot
>other autists holds the raid up being late
>decide to theme discord and loot tracker around a first grade class room
>loot is now called juiceboxes
>waiting for late people is now called nappy time
>officer channel is now called principals office
>the guild hall theme is a class room
it's amazing how adults suddenly become incapable of civil cooperation when it comes to video games
All of the Project Quarm doomposting is hilarious.
It’s going to be the same as every other eqemu server, whether or not that is considered doomposting is subjective.
>quarm is allowing you to have a mule account for the bazaar
bros...the dream is dead... not like this....
its already dead on arrival by virtue of having no instanced raids
>no instanced raids
big oof this ain't it chief!
Its September and im getting into my late summer/early autumn phase where i reflect on the past and play many MMOs.
Okay bro, keep us posted.
no idea why they wont release quarm already. 9 month long patches are long enough
>secrets is making us wait a few weeks for launch
Quarm sisters... it's over....how could this have happened?
the point is it should have been released back in august
It's okay hun when you make your own Everquest server you can release it whenever you want and I promise I'll play with you 🙂
hope that helps
>weather reaches a certain point
>"yep, time to grind orcs for a week straight"
Autumn? More like autism.
September is just a vibe. Also personal stuff and generally just how it is yknow.
Don't play EQ, it'll drain your sanity. You've been warned.
level 4 monk in qeynos, my mental stability is being tested.
>hit level 5, no one around, decide to look up if there's a common lowbie area
>"go to Eastern Commons"
>die to orcs who beat the shit out of me in high pass
Well, that's a walk tonight, i don't know if i can retrive my body before i get owned unless someone's killing everything in the zone. It may be easier to regear from scratch. (i'm a monk, i hope to god my fists can kill skeletrons)
>"go to Eastern Commons"
Terrible advice, as a Qeynos Monk you should be farming gnoll fangs in Blackburrow. You can turn them in to Captain Tillin for crazy XP.
Information on the Gnoll Fang quest i'm talking about:
https://wiki.project1999.com/Moonstones
i know about gnolls, part of it is just i want to see other people, right now i'm on eq99 and maybe i've seen 10 people who weren't booking it fast past in the distance.
>secrets wrote a whole paragraph about how characters feeling like game pieces was bad for the game and took away from the experience
>of course account sharing is allowed, why wouldn’t it be? someone has to play all these cleric guild bots
Curious
Does anyone actually play this primitive horseshit? I remember seeing a guy play this back in 2001 and being so fricking jealous he had money and could play an MMO.
Evidently people do. Actually quite a few.
Lots of people play many games (most of it awful goyslop and gacha trash on /vg/)
Wizard + Druid is where it's at. A little boring but hey, that's EQ for ya.
I'm going to play an SSF Paladin and SK one at a time and keeping both of them within a level of each other.
I like playing MMOs solo, the added challenge makes it a lot more exciting, and makes your accomplishments feel more earned.
>paladin solo
>in classic era
you sure about that? youre going to be sitting a lot

So I've never played actual classic, just kunark and beyond. Was thinking of doing a monk on quarm... any advice for starting a monk on a new server? What weapons should a monk be going for in classic? Do you basically just use fists?
i just made a warrior cat. ill fren you. what be ur user
>Less than 100 players in Project 1999
Are Ganker players playing updated EQ?
If you checked this morning its probably the least active time
Any of you guys interested in making a guild, either on p99 Green or Quarm?
Might make the grind a little more tolerable if we all had some bros we could reliably group up with and shoot the shit with.
there was a green guild called Fallen Leaves but not sure if it's still active. i've been dipping my toes back into green so i'd be open to it but i don't post on Ganker much anymore due to the moderation. i'll try to check back here later if i find myself playing a character and sticking with it. i have a couple of characters in the high teens but i kind of need to relearn the game before i start playing them again.
server op of quarm is a troony - like for real, not just throwing the word around. not the sole reason i quit (this janky client is dogshit - troubleshooting ANYTHING is the epitome of 1 step forward 5 steps back) but good enough reason to. i will not be returning to the server nor will i ever play on servers run by trannies.
i personally dislike pop culture names like that anyway. if you're gonna do some kind of meme or reference at least be clever about it and make it congruent with the setting.
>server op of quarm is a troony - like for real
After the hogwash that was ffxi horizon, ill take your word on this. Damn shame, too. The swamp was so populated. Can already see the choppiness in this, and just know its because the staff is too busy dilating to do their jobs at stabilizing hte server.
>After the hogwash that was ffxi horizon

>server op of quarm is a troony - like for real
he isnt, though.
thank you, anon. saved me who knows how many wasted hours.
>people actually falling for this shit
Embarrassing. You're like an unironic boomer getting trolled on Facebook in 2005.
>anyone I don't like is a troony
mental illness isn't good for you
client sucks but supposedly he's working on it, moronic to launch the server in this state but hey at least there's a frickton of people
>hemorrhoid just got banded, desk has been converted to standed
The TAKP wiki and allaclone site have no quest information and are barebones as frick so I don't know what I should go out of my way to look for on the grind.
calm the frick down and try to enjoy the ride instead of optimizing the fun out of it
servers gonna lose a lot of people because secrets couldnt be bothered to fix something as basic as the camera bug. people's copium of "its not that bad..." will run out once they actually start playing for hours at a time
I think a lot of people are just going to suck it down because they promised the Evolution client imminently with the p99 camera.
I don't get all this client stuff, why is quarm even using some mac based client?
Any no lifers going to play qwarm?
Need some schizo elves
Anyone played a wizard in classic? I know they get more love in luclin/pop. Was thinking of going wiz since they are keeping pop wiz crits in for classic on quarm.
Also what are the chances of a name change/ban if I make a erudite wiz named Blackdamus?
>hmm someone has drawn a line
>let me get as close to possible while avoiding the outcome I can clearly foresee
He covered that in stream today using Erudite kangshit as an example of morons asking for a ban. If you have to ask then don't cry when you know what's coming.
What can you expect from a server hosted by a discord troony I guess. Secrets will never be a female.
fact is, EQ was always opposed to meme names like that, even in classic.
Trannies ruin online communities.
They really do.
project quarm hype
I plan on playing SK, just going to enjoy the ride to 30 then get my dream childhood items like guise, jboots, rubi bp, and a mana stone.
Then i'll either make a shaman or ranger and try to get 1 more guise before classic items go away but if I miss out on my alt I won't care, not too interested going above 30 this early so I'll just chill after that and do random dumb stuff like max out good faction rep as a ogre.
What are some EQ noob friendly classes? I played a little tiny bit on P99 but basically I have no clue.
magician is braindead easy. it's like leveling a wow warlock. you get carried by your pet
>Necro might be more for me than mage
necro is a evil class you will be kos in most of the cities. it sucks if you are a clueless noob
>What classes are usually expected to do pulling?
druids and enchanters. and no don't play a puller if you are a noob
>it sucks if you are a clueless noob
I see..
>everything thats on p99 except for iksar and beastlords which come out in kunark and luclin respectively
Should I avoid those?
tanks, monks or bards typically but any class can be a puller. enchanters, necros and even clerics are underrated pullers but theres a 99% chance youll never be asked to when playing one.
>What classes and races are even available at Quarm launch?
everything thats on p99 except for iksar and beastlords which come out in kunark and luclin respectively
>Shadowknight would be cool but I think a clueless tank wouldn't be fun for the people who make the mistake of playing with me.
cast disease cloud on the target you want to tank
tell the group to CC everything else
grats you're tanking on SK
mage and necro because strong pet classes, the latter is king of soloing. shadowknight is the easiest tank to play. cleric is the easiest healer to play. most classes are fairly simple to get into and learn so you should play something you think is cool.
the only thing in eq with a high skill floor is pulling because you're expected to know how each camp works so you dont wipe your group which comes with experience.
Rogues are a bastard child in classic due to NO EPIC and shit 1h pierce itemization for groups.
Anyone playing?
nobody lol. this launch is an absolute mess
30-70 players according to Project 1999's numbers
Quarm was at 1800 but the server keeps crashing so Secrets is rewriting some netcode.
>PvE
>red homosexual
theres like 30 people tops who unironically enjoy EQ pvp and they are all mentally ill
at least play UO pvp or something you dumbfrick
>theres like 30 people tops who unironically enjoy EQ pvp and they are all mentally ill
>at least play UO pvp or something you dumbfrick
oh go back to plebbit where youll get upvotes for your pve circlejerking.
PVP in EQ was very popular. All the zek's were well populated in the day.
t. red bloody butthole from being a gayboi
I played pvp as a joke back in the day, no one took it serious and the servers had absurdly low pops.
I use to make SKs and harm touch rush people at newbie gates then die to refresh it and do it all over again.
>absurdly low pops.
Why are you such a lying homosexual?
Do you get off on lying on the internet to win an argument?
Regardless, the pvp were heavily populated. In fact rallos zek (the item loot pvp server) was populated enough to be the first server to kill the sleeper.
So frick right off you absolute lying homosexual
>looks at P99 red
>literally 10 morons playing throughout the entire day
lmao
>killing the sleeper
>he brags about a boss which is BAD to kill by stating pvp servers had such massive shithead morons they did edgy shit to ruin flow of good loot
not helping your argument dumbfrick
>mail quest already nerfed
Let the ladder-pulling begin, we are in a full blown horizon situation
I'm only a level 3 shaman with my level 1 spells and no bags after 3 hours of newbie yard bullshit. I should have rolled my mage alt and got some cash. Such bullshit he should have rolled the cash back.
is there a new server or something?
started as a wood elf and basically can't find a spawn that isn't being camped by a bunch of people
peak gameplay
>picks the most popular starting zone to level in on launch
Do I run quarm off titanium?
no, the takp client
Made it to level 3. I guess that's good enough for having no fricking clue what I'm doing.
>fricking butthole steals my cracked staff with blatant kill stealing, links it in chat, gloats like a gay, and then tries to train a red con myconid on me
Which one of you was it
and this is why you run shadowplay so you get homies like that banned
All of the pvp servers had lower populations than even the lowest pve server, and there were 4 pvp servers compared to like 15 pve servers. Also red and vztz were both colossal failures that nobody cared about. The upcoming takp pvp server will also be an enormous failure. EQ pvp is dogshit, no amount of cope will change that.
How do these compare? Should I favor damage or low delay?
damage / delay for low levels, whatever is the highest
Oh it's that simple? Then it would be the bastard sword.
There doesn't seem to be any vendors near Greater Faydark for those.
Any suggestions on where to get some plat? I haven't lucked into any good weapons on skellies.
sadly not sure, I play ogre so I make my money from the hordes of weapons.
make sure to use a sharpening stone and turn it into a tarnished weapon lowers the delay by like 2
>whaaaa whaaaaa why dont other people like pvp whaaa whaaaa WHAAAAHHHHH SOMEBODY LET ME GANK THEM WHAAAAAHHHHHHH
nobody cares kys homosexual
he probably also plays a bard on pvp servers which is basically like cheating.
literal homosexualtier shit
hi samegay

its clear its you dude. youre seething here
t. ranny
Sorry lads no money for everquest I blew it all on the titty bar after seeing the op.
seems quarm is locked, is it only the al kabar sever?
they're fixing something
yeehaw.
im torn between troll or barbarian shaman.
theres no real gameplay reason to pick barbarian, so your choice is based purely on aesthetics if that makes it easier
troll it is. the swamp is my home.
So other than Thex Dagger, Rubicite, Manastone, Guise, and Boxes of Abukar (GM event only here?) what are some items/quests I should get in on?
Server was taken down to boost dungeon mob spawn rate to keep the tubes from being clogged as per Discord but then he broke something and gave a 1 hr ETA, wish I had paid attention to that piece of shit so I could have exploited mail like everyone else.
>wish I had paid attention to that piece of shit so I could have exploited mail like everyone else.
I thought those got banned
bros.. I think I should've made a female character
>luclin models
Fricking gross.
this game needed lewd armor textures it prob would have stayed king if it added some
so what's the server to play on now? P99 or Quarm?
none until they make another tlp with mischief ruleset
Quarm obviously. P99 devs have been mia for years and Green was due for a refresh last year that we didn't get. Quarm has 2k+ people while green and blue are split between two servers at ~1600 during primetime.
i'll take mia mentally sane devs over a troony
his twitch page also has the tags "LGBT" and "Ally" and during the first of the of the server broke streams he was talking about banning someone because they "fetishized trans people" or some shit. plus his pngtuber avatar is a girly version of himself. he's a troony.
if you wanna play on a troony server that's your business but i have standards.
To be fair nobody in the pserver scene (any game) seems to be sane. Even the seemingly sane devs lose their shit at some point. It seems inevitable.
i'm fine with insane but i've had enough "frog and the scorpion" type scenarios with people like this that i'm happy steering clear. i'm not one of these obsessed psychos that will spam the thread because people are playing on his server, play wherever you want, just wanted to give a heads up. my issue with the server was more to do with the horrible client, the server owner's identity was just reason enough for me to know i don't need to waste my time looking back to see how it's doing in a few months.
kind of my issue with p99 right now. i feel like it already achieved its goal of bringing back that core experience of classic and all of this other stuff like intentionally breaking QOL features and following along moronic patch notes/balance decisions is missing the point. it could be so much more than it is right now but it's being held back by this skewed vision. and a lot of what they constitute as "classic" is so arbitrary. and it's always having their cake and eating it too - they forced the "default UI" on everyone and did everything they could to prevent custom UIs because "classic" but couldn't be bothered to fix the real classic stone UI? the velious UI fricking sucks, if we're not playing with the actual fricking classic UI then why bother breaking custom UIs?
classic EQ was great because of the mechanics, not because the UI sucked ass or the controls were dogshit. but p99 devs seem to think the mechanics are secondary and the REAL reason classic was so great was because there was no tab targeting. it's gay and moronic.
>classic EQ was great because of the mechanics, not because the UI sucked ass or the controls were dogshit. but p99 devs seem to think the mechanics are secondary and the REAL reason classic was so great was because there was no tab targeting. it's gay and moronic.
I believe it will usher in a new era of EQ private servers.
whats so great about lantern? i dont see what its supposed to be doing differently.
If they want all the god awful cons of classic EQ, maybe they should add those "surprise" maintenance shutdowns that would occur at random by Verant/SoE back in the day.
>so what's the server to play on now? P99 or Quarm?
Quarm is a lot of fun right now. Much more fun than I've had on p99 green.
That being said if you've got friends on green to twink you or hate crowds p99 it is.
Um bro you're not allowed to have fun on Quarm because of TRANNIES bro!
I see we have moved from “it’s not a troony server” to “why does it matter that it’s a troony server”, that was fast.
Whatever you say, buddy.
Do we have an anon quarm guild at least?
Is there any kind of main quest? I've just been running around Qeynos killing rats. Having a good time though. Also, any update on ?
How cancerous is getting guise going to be
it's literally 100% you will get it as long as you hit 30, I used the lvl command at end of beta to farm and test it.
it now has a 50% droprate and it 100% drops after a quake, I got one every single kill and this was BEFORE they buffed the respawn rate of assassin.
It's going to legit chain rot at some point because everyone will have it easily.
I think it's a good thing as guise doesn't really alter power but the old world is going to be a joke with EVERYONE having rubi bp, manastone and jboots.
Is it a meme or something to say the server owner isn't trans? There's literally an interview posted last week on youtube if you search project quarm:
This can't be gaslighting since it's such a shitty attempt.
Holy frick. That voice too.
Maybe the quarm defense force should go yell at secrets to fix the fricking camera instead of gaslighting and deflecting.
>fix the fricking camera
kek i cant believe he released the server with that still broken
You gotta play in first person. Don’t be casuals, guys.
playing in 1st person is the biggest scrub move imaginable, newbie
Skill issue. People have played on TAKP just fine.
>the camera isn't broken, play in 1st person!
>it isn't a trans server, okay actually it is but who cares
how bad will this get 2 months from now?
>how bad will this get 2 months from now
The new client will probably be in by that time.
Before I learned about F9 I played in first person for months as a kid, issue was almost every 3D adventure game was from a first person perspective so it was played out already when the game was relevant.
>can’t handle first person
Feels bad, man.
t. rannysaurus rexes
>bro stfu even back in the late 90's as a kid I would use the birds eye camera to see how cool my character looked doing double attacks while dual wielding.
you missed out then. MMORPGs are all memories of me playing a game because of third person.
EQ however, my memories are of me actually doing that shit, because it was in first person.
I remember being a human necro and a halfling druid. I did that shit
>you missed out then
>instead of not seeing my character and just looking at monster models for 50000 hours I watched my cool character in awe as a child slaying all the monsters from cool angles
man shut up
>all these morons literally obsessed with whether or not the owner is a troony
Wasting your time brehs. Sorry you'll never get warder loot.
>caring that the owner of a server you could potentially spend hundreds to thousands of hours on is a mentally ill freak
crazy
The main dev chick from Project Quarm is pretty hot. What does 4chin think?
what class/race combo has the best bawd armors?
I'm amazed and annoyed that nobody has made a model viewer type of thing since EQlantern made it possible to pull all that stuff into Unity easily
Real homies know it's all about Human female chain armor.
wood elf and dark elf look better in chain
>quarm client has bugged shading on the dark elf female model
there goes that bawd option
where should I put my starting points if I make a high elf paladin? seems like they get some cool looking plate possibly
Anal because high elf bawds are weak to it by nature lmao.
Dark elf
this is the face of an eq enjoyer
look at those eyes full of life
>it's okay the camera is broken play in first person
Now that they were exposed lying about the trans owner they've moved onto defending the broken camera system. Sad!
I only play in first person. I’m by no way defending the troony. I’ll be playing p99 tonight knowing that it is a troony server. I’m calling all those that don’t play in first person a casual. Simple as.
strange hill to die on but i'll allow it
how about you look at this in first person *unzips*
how about you shut the frick up and call your mother to wish her a good night and remind her that you love her homosexual
u r gay
You’re a homosexual.
I've never played EQ but have played FF11. What am I in for?
a bunch of fun once you get past the clunkiness
it's just like ffxi in that sense
Compared to FFXI
>way more freedom of movement
>combat is more boring for some classes (melee mostly), more engaging for others (hybrids, some casters)
>dungeon design is far better in EQ, especially when it comes to hunting named monsters for drops
>graphics and music are better in FFXI (though EQ does have its charms)
>fewer quality of life things at first (no homepoint crystals, have to get a caster to bind you. EXP loss on death, no airships, no chocobos)
>EQ's lore doesn't take itself quite as seriously
As for classes you're pretty much looking at
>Tank
Warrior (main), paladin/shadowknight (fine in parties, won't get to do much in raids)
>Melee DPS
Rogue, Monk, Ranger
>Ranged DPS
Wizard, Necromancer, Magician
>Healers
Cleric, Shaman, Druid in a pinch, Necromancer if your party is desperate and the Necro isn't a moron
>Crowd Control/Support
Enchanter, Bard. Anyone with root can help but these are the dedicated guys.
Clerics, Bards, and Enchanters are always in high demand particularly since Bard and Enchanter are very good at soloing. Necro, Druid, Magician, and Wizard are also good at soloing but groups aren't usually going out of their way to find any of them.
Sounds neat. I want to try, but still addicted to FF11.
bros
if you look closely at the pixie model you can see her nipples
so is quarm comparable to horizonxi?
is horizonxi run by trannies?
im not a politics-obsessed freak like you, so i only care about pop and the vibe of the player base
>men pretending to be women and forcing you to go along with it is "politics"
p99 is the horizon of everquest, if a solid and populated server is what you're looking for
doesn't quarm have more players currently?
yes, quarm is also way more accurate to the real game in terms of gameplay while having QoL that adapts to the original devs vision. So for example the shitty hybrid penalty, brad mcquad himself posted on allakhazam around 2001 stating they thought hybrids needed penalty's because they would end up being extremely powerful but later realized that wasn't the case and classes with bonuses or no penalty ended up being minmax shit.
that's great but trannies are mentally unstable freaks so investing time into a server run by one is pretty moronic
Difference is you've been using his netcode and programming for over a decade, he's literally the reason P99 works and is credited on their site.
That's the only reason I'm not worried about it, he's been in the scene for a long time with zero issues.
code monkey is very different from server owner and operator
He's not even the full owner there's a separate team doing that, he had posted in the P99 thread he wanted to just provide content/code instead of be the sole owner this time around.
how do we know it isn't a team of trannies?
no. does the FFXI scene have a shitty server with a janky client that sucks ass to use? because that's what quarm is.
only because it's fresh. the numbers probably won't be comparable in the long term.
warrior and rogue are pretty gear reliant. all melees are really but at least ranger and SK you have spells and stuff. i'd recommend a SK out of all that. you could also consider a bard, they have a reputation for being swarm kiters but that's completely optional.
>I got the impression that starting out as a Dark Elf is difficult because of the factions.
yes, religion also plays a role in it as well. an evil god worshiping human cleric can actually get around pretty much everywhere with fewer problems than a DElf cleric worshipping the same god would. worth considering as a new player. not sure how this plays out for SKs though and the religion options they have.
honestly it's not some insurmountable obstacle, plenty of people started with a DElf as their first character back in the day, but it limits your options in terms of where you can do business and there's always the possibility there'll be some random NPC somewhere 20 levels above you that hates your ass for being blue.
cool and you can't bind strafe to keys or use wineq for a stable framerate/windowed mode so who gives a shit?
honestly the politics of raiding and what classes do what is irrelevant to 99% of the people that ask class questions like this anyway, i'd consider what day-to-day leveling and grouping would be like more than anything else.
>you can't bind strafe to keys or use wineq
the quarm client is so dogshit. how they managed to be less functional than p99 of all servers is beyond me. why did the guy in charge think the camera bug wasnt an issue?
do programmers play the type of games they like to develop at all? this was probably the biggest deal breaker for me because im not going back to bronze age functionality just because some boomer who doesnt actually play thinks its good game design.
the guy in charge shows up to a livestream wearing a dress to make an interview about his server about his crossdressing fetish instead just daring anyone to make fun of him for it so he can cry 'transphobia', of course he's gonna not gonna think the camera bug is that big of a deal.
whiny little b***h boi
>needing to be obsessed with politics to know these things
yes, normal people don't care that much
I can decide what to play. I'm not really into the full spell casting classes so I've narrowed it down to
>warrior
>rogue
>ranger
>shadowknight
as a Wood Elf or a Dark Elf.
I haven't played much Everquest but I wanna give it a proper shot now that there's a fresh server. I got the impression that starting out as a Dark Elf is difficult because of the factions.
shadowknight.
Tempted as a Dark Elf Shadowknight seems cool but the downside here is that I already played a bit starting in Gfay and it would be really nice to be able to transfer those starting items and plat over. It would make those early levels a bit faster.
Even if the character I make would be a Wood Elf female? This plate looks so good.
Rolling a warrior on a fresh server is probably the most manly thing you can do. Be a man.
awful idea on a server where 5% of the pop will actually raid. unless youre a poopsocking neet, its just going to be a miserable experience for no pay off
solid dps, even before kunark since melee dps are indirectly buffed on quarm. they cant solo at all but that is sort of the point of this game
worst class in the game by far until luclin, then arguably the best dps
pretty good for all aspects of the game except raids where theyre merely tolerated as off tanks or to buff the actual tanks with a tps modifier. groups always need tanks so you'll probably get your dick sucked a lot
How were they indirectly buffed? Miss rate not being shit like p99?
pets can take xp if they deal enough damage so pure damage dealers are a more attractive choice for xp groups. enchanters dont have the same monopoly with charm pet in groups as they once did
Thanks for the insights.
Mouse aim basically isn't a thing.
think im gonna roll an ogre shadowknight, i love being a fat frick
>crash doing felwithe-kelethin bard mail on my gnome mage alt
Holy shit the LD character in world time out is way too fricking long
Is Paladin a good class to level?
its an underrated tank. most people dont like playing it because it doesnt do any damage but it's arguably the best tank for xp groups. it loses value with a cleric in the group, but makes groups running a shaman or druid much, much better.
Is it any good for soloing? I do still mostly want to do group exp farming but being able to solo is nice.
not really. you're limited to places with a lot of undead just to actually do any damage and even then you're at the mercy of your mana pool. shadowknight is much better suited to getting stuff done on their own since they have dots, lifetaps, snares, fears, a pet and even feign death.
This thread, FFXI general, and the turtlewow thread are identical.
people still play ffxi? the official version?
Yes, but it's mostly pserver whinging over Horizon. Quarm/Horizon/Turtle many similarities.
i don't even know if turtle has any confirmed trannies on staff, they're just power tripping losers with the way they run the server, GMs basically make up rules on the fly so they always have an excuse to flex their GM power because of how pathetic they are. you can tell these are complete failures that have nothing else going on in their lives, they find the power intoxicating to use. haven't had that kind of issue on any EQ server yet.
>these are complete failures that have nothing else going on in their lives, they find the power intoxicating to use
this is the tldr of every private server staff member ever
another great example of moronic classic decisions: in velious they put high level undead mobs in the freeport sewers so low level evil characters can't get into the city. they did this for no reason. and because MUH CLASSIC this change stands regardless of how moronic it is
laughs in SK
We get invis vs undead at level 9 so not our problem.
they should have coded miraguls highway in for evil races
If I got my Giant Snake Fang and some basic AC gear any suggestions on what I should work towards next for a Rogue?
it begins
he's gonna ruin the server
server is already ruined with the camera making it unplayable
>acknowledging that the people being called moronic must have actual mental disabilities so must be defended
kek. but seriously you fricking morons how hard is it to just shut the frick up and not be mean?
it won't stop here. at the beginning of the week it was banning for "fetishizing trans people", today it's banning for saying moron, next week there'll be another reason you have to walk on eggshells. i'm sure they'll start snooping in whispers, party and guild chat as well. just not worth it. you will be banned for no reason at some point. it's just how these people are. it's never enough for them, there's always some new crusade they have to be on because twitter said so. exactly why i dumped this server as soon as i learned this dude was a troony.
>i'm sure they'll start snooping in whispers, party and guild chat as well.
haha you think he hasn't been doing that since day 1?
>give npc your quest items
>accidentally stack them so it fails turn in
>type out /w npcsname and call him the n word
lmao which one of you did this?
it's not like tells are encrypted comms my dude, learn some OPSEC if you're gonna say shit that will piss off the guy who owns the server. Jesus man this victim mentality gets old.
>how hard is it to just shut the frick up and not be mean?
not at all hard but when asked about how the reports will be handled he referred to rules but also went on to say that there have been exceptions
so you can't even count on getting a warning if you happen to offend some thin skinned liberal frickwad by accident, you might just get banned outright depending on what the staff feels like that day
it's more what these sort of takes stand for than having any issue acting properly in game as I have never been banned
shame because aside from the camera the client is good and the server on a mechanical level seems pretty good as well
>i'm sure they'll start snooping in whispers, party and guild chat as well
this is why all MMO communcation happens within guild discords nowadays and nobody makes an effort to communicate in game or try to make friends
>this is why all MMO communcation happens within guild discords nowadays and nobody makes an effort to communicate in game or try to make friends
this does not happen lmao, I play multiple games and plenty of discussion still happens in-games.
Also sprouting bullshit in your discord isn't safe if a new member joins and sees no speak sprouted he can report the channel and get it actioned by discord.
Uh oh
I kinda lost my interest after these Project Faceless gays tried to turn it into a modern MMO race tarding everything from TLP. I was only level 11 when they were in their mid 30s spamming mages and in-group trading camps. Losing interest is one thing but losing trust in some alphabetard not to go full gestapo is kind of a red line.
>expecting EQboomers to not say moron
what a frickin moron
i've known secrets for a long time and played games with secrets outside of everquest, so i'm not sure why these people are pretending that secrets isn't a troony - it's not a secret or a joke
secrets' real issue is mania. i give it a few weeks of raid disputes before secrets freaks out and bans half the endgame guilds or just pulls the plug entirely
>lets a shit load of homosexuals get free blackened iron then randomly nerfs it without removing ill gotten gains
>now slows down all spawns when prime time is about to hit for most popular U.S time zone
yeah secrets is a fricking moron
Yeah game is unplayable right now with congestion. Not going to waste my friday on this shit when only off hours get spawn rates. His shitty 1 server VPS can't handle it lmao.
>peak hours
>all parties are full for 5+ hours straight
>dead hours
>no parties
Can't win.
There isn't even a single mob up in gfay to solo
Uh oh bros Cohh is going to get the hammer!
apparently green 2.0 hasnt happened because daybreak told P99 to hold off for now
but why? they cater to two completely different audiences.
I would assume daybreak thinks p99 competes with TLP
lol, lmao even. they are completely different games
It's not Daybreak, as much as its EG7 - their new owner past few years - that has likely a different stance on how they tolerate emulated servers, especially after purchasing DB from Inception Acquisitions in 2020. Honestly at least they're in communication with each other rather than a C&D being sent the moment a new server goes online.
aren't TLP servers just modern retail EQ but with the content locked? that's not really 'classic'. unless whoever's running things now intends on jumping on the hardcore hype train and are gonna do their own version of classic. which frankly i'd welcome if it were the correct classes and races and balancing etc. but with basic qol stuff the morons at p99 broke on purpose or are too inept to provide.
there are classes that can solo fine but the game shines in group play.
wasn't it only qeynos and gfay he did it for? halas and nektulos were completely barren when i was on.
you could have started crushbone a few levels ago. i think at 12 you could start doing minotaurs in steamfront. but if you're on quarm they might be too busy.
https://wiki.project1999.com/Per-Level_Hunting_Guide could always check this. if you're on quarm YMMV with the 'good' spots as i imagine a lot of other players have used this guide as well.
if p99 keeps its museum ethos of "it's shitty on purpose" then they might survive.
People haven't boxed mages on TLPs for like 10+ years, truebox prevents boxing in general though yea some use multi computers but its not common and krono prices are so cheap in classic/kunark that you can literally exp in sebilis for a night, vendor your gems and have enough plat just from that to buy a krono its great honestly.
lying homosexual stfu
Tlp have lots of problems but at least you get to see end game. Meanwhile p99/quarm is just a dead end once you hit max level
mitigation of the mighty makes pets useless, why would anybody play a fricking mage you troglodyte
t. rannysaurus rex
>talking about everquest
>brings up troony shit outta absolutely nowhere
Really makes you think
trannies are the biggest threat against EQ and you know it you disingenuous fricker
This. Trannies ruin everything they touch. Look at what happened to ffxi horizon.
yeah they fricked it all up, like how its the most populated FFXI server period, eclipsing every other private server and retail
it's a bit amazing how well they've retained the population
XI has desperately needed a single box server, so until another server comes around horizon will always be the default server to play.
it's almost like all MMORPGs get infinitely better once you block multiboxing because partying becomes a necessity
Well yeah, boxing takes zero skill.
Any moron can have 5 clients up and run a perfect party. Well never understand why morons do it, it's basically like using game genie you're just cheating the game to play like a antisocial loser
The troony devs were picking favorites with their friends booking them up with the best gear. Once people were farming crystals and making good money, the troony devs got angry that the cis folk were catching up, so they nerfed crystal drops. The moment they did that they ruined the server. Not to mention how unstable the game is. The tyranny devs were so busy dilating that half the zones would drop and everyone in them would go link dead.
if they nerfed crystal drop rates why did i farm 32 stacks of light crystals in a 10 sync party in 3 hours last night? do you even play the game?
thats precisely what the nerf was, increased drop rate which made crystals worthless. gg. go suck more troony wiener.
based and immersion pilled
kek though trannies do ruin everything ive played on the majority of TLPs and only recall coming across one in all that time. now if we wanna talk about autistic manchildren....thats another story.
Source?
>Source?
dude trust me
>secrets finally says something in discord
>just says he wont be around and defends exploiters being able to insta lvl to 10
>no mention of spawns while everyone complains
>population flooding in for the weekend
this server is fricked
>troony doesn't operate well under pressure
no surprise there
quarm is fun i love the classic ui
i feel like im having a panic attack
me whenever I have to pull
me when I'm trying to find a party and I start questioning if I'm doing something wrong because I never get invited for anything
why dont you just make your own group?
WoW has churned out abunch of anti social morons who expect to hit a button to insta get a group or just join one.
The upside to this is if you're not a little b***h you basically can create a group on a whim no matter what class you play because 90% of the population is too afraid to start picking people up and build one.
yes, but the average wow player isnt playing this game and most likely played everquest first and have not developed those tendencies.
>You don't know how often I'll build a camp group here and droves of solo's run by, stand in front of us for 5 minutes then run off, or they show up stand there then call us "buttholes" because we didn't magically invite them randomly.
you can blame wow, thats fair. if you ask me, those people are just lazy c**ts that exist in pretty much all mediums. most of my time spent playing eq in the recent years is watching people try to get away with as much as they possibly can to leech in groups.
going afk for extended periods of time, making excuses for buffs falling off, refusing to charm as an enchanter, etc.
All dime a dozen classes here kick their asses if your paying attention and watch them seethe.
>get ignored for 2 days
>existential crisis
>roll alt
>get to same 11-12 range
>get ignored
>FOMO on legacy items and uncongested camps people are in right now
>digital 25+ year old MMO NTR
>repeat
yeah pretty much
I have three characters at this point because I start second guessing myself every time I hit that point of no party invites
everyone at some point has a no invite session even tanks and healers
the only other option is to be a solo class, no class will get you 100% invite uptime each session varies, one day you could play your healer and there happens to be 10 other healers in your range LFGing as well, same with dps and tanks.
to clarify I have gotten zero invites on multiple sessions trying at different times of the day on different classes
because I don't know camps well enough to find some place that doesn't have a party going already
Is this shit worth playing if you have no friends to play? I think the idea of EQ is great, but I never been able to play with a group.
soooo.. im a newbie :3 and well I don't really know what the FRICK people expect of me.. I haven't been in a party yet cuz of social awkwardness xP *holds up spork of power* but will ppl expect me to do those SUPER HERO NINJA MOVES (WACHAW!! *does poses*) or will I get cut some slack since I'm wack? xD :3
OOPS!!!!! >m< I forgot to mention watashi am on Project1999!!
you'll fit right in. I hadn't seen a "woot" in years until I played p99. There's wooters everywhere.
hey so in retail if I'm a fresh face, never played before, f2p, etc do you have to actually do things in each expansion, or is it like WoW where every expansion is left behind in favor of the new one and the other thing they offer is levelling up
>only 1k players at 12 pm saturday
people fed up
probably lost 500 due to lowbie congestion alone
Fricking moronic choice to lower the spawns before the first full weekend of the server.
We all have our shit days, but he should've known to be on high alert for an entire week during the launch of a much anticipated server.
probably needed to invite his troony friends over to reinforce his insanity bubble where he gets to think he's a woman because all the stress from the server was about to break it
Respawn timers have been reduced tonight in patches
most people probably quit because they realized what a grind it would be. nostalgia is a helluva drug
I don't think people even got to the grind because there's no mobs to kill on the popular starting areas
>troony creates hype
>then spills its spaghetti
sad, many such cases
Where the frick should I be leveling as a 10 mage? Gfay is getting old.
>mage

Anyone who wants to use redguides and or macroquest play on Rizlona. The server was made and advertised for it. You can openly use it and nobody cares as long as you don't cause drama.
its a TLP entering VoA on Thursday, its not a truebox so you box as much as you want, it has mercs if you wanna use em, and the server has a healthy population ( at the high end, don't expect to find people to level with )
>check quarm discord
>people chatting normally, playing the server, giving feedback, submitting fixes/tweaks go the git

>more players on quarm than the entirety of p99 on a saturday
Ummm, your cope now, P99 chuds?
that's the best part, its not a competition 🙂 we have a healthy playerbase on p1999 and quarm! not to mention everquest 3 announced to be starting development, and the 25th and 20th anniversary coming up for EQ1 and EQ2, it's never been a better time to be playing EQ!
>not to mention everquest 3 announced to be starting development
Yeah two more weeks and EQ Next will be a thing bros! Oh and they haven't announced jackshit.
they announced a new everquest game starting development last month anon
>MTX
dead on arrival
whenever i think i want to play everquest, i watch a video or stream and remember that 90% of the game is sitting waiting for mana regen or spawns because the protoboomers who made this game thought people would spend that time RPing like it was D&D
this. the appeal of the game was the novelty of playing and socializing with thousands of people. that is no longer a novelty and the actual gameplay is boring as frick.
The MMO revival blackpill is real.
Old school runescape doesnt even count as a revival anymore seeing as they change everything anyways, which is why people still play it, even if they add homosexual shit and retcon the quests.
>camera still isnt fixed on quarm
what are they doing?
Running a GM event in Highkeep apparently.
I'm an ogre shaman though and don't get fricking invis until 29 so I'm not going to go look.

I haven't played in two days. Are the starting zones still full and impossible to kill anything in or find parties that aren't full 24/7?
>I haven't played in two days. Are the starting zones still full and impossible to kill anything in or find parties that aren't full 24/7?
That starts around 8 or so where the casual jump is.
Where do I go for parties at level 7?
if secrets spent as much time fixing the camera as he does chatting in discord then it could have been fixed months ago
I can't say I know how the editing of the eqclient.dll goes but since they seem to have the knowhow it should be a rather simple logic change to fix the camera and it wouldn't be that much more work to make it better than what p99 has
probably doesnt know how. whatever change he made to the .dll broke it in the first place and saying its not important is pure cope
you're literally killing trans folx with this bigotry chud
who said anything about troons?
Asking for advice. As someone who has never played EverQuest before I'd like to try. Where do you recommend I start?
Pick your poison.
how do you morons still have camera stutter? when I set my fps to 60 in the ini it completely fixes it
this. have to make problems for yourself so you can keep thinking about troons all day so they'll never fix it themselves.
so you're saying you can turn your camera up and down in third person using your mouse just fine with no stutter?
>third person
i play first person exclusively with the stone ui
camera works just fine in first person I don't think anyone has complained about that
so you didnt actually fix anything you just circumvent the issue by playing like a scrub
Found the casual.
>not putting yourself at a massive disadvantage for no pay off makes you a "casual"
i dont think you know what that word means
i do, but youre the casual that cant handle first person.
i cant handle keyboard turning either, is that something you do as well?
Yes. I'm not a casual.
was refering to the private servers that trans folk run that they run into the ground out of pure selfishness.

I have no idea wtf i am doing. I just did the tutorial. I might be moronic. I'm on vox. First time playing this game. There is no one here. Am i killing spiders forever? The frick?

we got 9 fricking months in classic, then 9 fricking months in kunark
why rush at all? soak it in, roleplay, and chill your adhd-rattled brain
>go as slow as I am. Don't go faster, otherwise you'll expose me for being a moron 🙁
35 to loot but they're chain rotting at the moment due to not having enough higher lvls to loot them.
35 MAXIMUM or 35 minimum?
35 minimum to loot rubicite bp otherwise the server would be filled with them right now like Jboots.
Are Jboots rotting too?
When it's late yeah but they're 100% droprate now just hit 20 and you will get them fast.
>is it horrible pathing and casters through walls like p99 was?
Was this intentional by the P99 devs?
the project faceless leader laughed about their guild receiving a hidden experience bonus. troon server is cooked.

First thing I saw when I logged in and toured PoK was a little legion of them bundled up together.
there is an actual 72boxer. I'm not kidding. I've seen him before with all his accounts on /follow.
>somebody is paying almost $13k a year to play by himself on an almost 25 year old game
No wait, he's paying almost $15.5k if you count $35 yearly expansion per account
He's likely farming krono to sell
>farming krono
More like using all those toons to lag out a dead zone to dupe krono
Lonely attention prostitutes also multiboxed raid forces in WoW while walking around in newbie areas because they have no friends. It's not just an EQ Live problem. Not that it matters because that shit only caters to the mentally ill.
Proportionately EQLive has always stuck out as a big problem with multiboxing.
>multiple carbon dioxide leak party members
>staring off into the void
>not chasing runners
>not looting on their turn
>zero situational awareness for 5 minute bouts at a time before even attempting to play the fricking game
What the frick is wrong with people?
anon you're playing a game for 50+ year olds
it's funny that at some point we went from expecting young kids playing games to be the morons into it being the boomers who've gotten too slow to play or are too distracted by irl constantly to play proper
it's honestly more likely someone in your party will die at their keyboard than you'd run into a young person playing eq. i say that as a 24 year old, I know I'm like a unicorn in the EQ scene.
I'm 34 and even I'm young in many of their eyes aka was 10 when EQ initially came out.
Yeah pretty much. Very reason why they think EQ is difficult in their eyes. God knows how many countless times i heard EQ was someones first and only game they ever played.
>Very reason why they think EQ is difficult in their eyes
considering how many morons struggle to keep people buffed, it is in fact a difficult game for them
Part of that might also be because of how slow moving the game is. Even Brad Mcquaid commented about this back around the time of SoL how people would read specific books during downtime between fights and how that might've taken it a bit far. So the idea of people being distracted during rest and buffs being missed isn't too far fetched.
lel if they cant be bothered to look at the screen to make sure a 30+ minute buff doesnt fall off then frankly they are more invested in whatever else it is theyre doing than the game itself
>they all act like veterans of the genre or at least eq itself
isnt it wonderful

People are realizing hunting outside = 10 hours per 2 lvls while getting a solid dungeon camp is 2 levels every 3 hours
Which is why guk has 89 people in it at 2 am est
What the frick?
He released the ZEMs before launch and they looked like shit. What is with all this abitrary non-classic MAGICAL DEV REALM garbage you need to be in a Discord to find?
Yeah sadly you have to hope he posts info in announcements or you catch him randomly saying a change he is planning in discord
Fricking hell
Guk starts at 15?
You can hunt the low lvl frogs at zone earlier than that
this is the shittiest part about the server; no website no wiki no good place of getting clear correct information
you gotta make reading the discord a part time job to figure this shit out
Worse thing is he fricking lied on the p99 forums saying he had someone working on a website like 2 months ago.
So way he lied about another team handling the game while he was strictly a coder but he is obviously the sole owner.
I'm having fun but I just have a bad feeling this site is going to go down in flames in the future when he has a hardcore schizo moment.
this is why i dropped the server as soon as i learned he was a troony, none of this behavior is particularly surprising to me
>discord-clique-based troonserver that spams all the classic chase items at 100% droprate
why were people excited for this? just desperation because p99 is abandoned?
quarm at this point may as well be a tlp fun server for people who think they arent playing a tlp but "true" everquest kek

no kidding. dude talks way too much in general chat for me to believe he actually does any real work on the game itself
Is there any verification that he's a troon or any screenshots of said rants?
just look at him

Better behave CHUD!
Are Guk respawns/ZEM no longer increased?
nah sadly but still feels good honestly the fast respawns with no downtime kind of sucks in dungeons even with rad dps had zero time to med and you could easily get swarmed specially if you were in a high traffic area with people running shit by
if I'm killing something that gives rep does it tell me when I go up a reputation level? or can I check it somewhere?
>if I'm killing something that gives rep does it tell me when I go up a reputation level? or can I check it somewhere?
It doesn't tell you when you go up a reputation level. Con a NPC on that faction and you'll see the change is all.
>lost camp because moronic tank had to go smoke
Ban all ciggers
Truly a classic experience.
haven't these boomer morons heard of vaping?
MMOs just happen to have the intersection of a lot of traits that make someone at high risk for trooning out. same reason why the speedrunning community is like half troons now. hobby that attracts autists, extremely online autists that have little to no ability to discern how their image IRL comes across to others, it's all but illegal to criticize someone who falls under this identity category for any reason so it's basically a blank check to do whatever you want with no consequences, there are literal HRT "cults" that revolve around gaslighting lonely unpopular young men to transition, we're in a highly feminized society that prizes (and fetishizes) femininity and demonizes anything remotely masculine, we've reached a new stage of capitalist decline where now corporations claim they can change your sex. take your pick.
i guess we just have to hope Secrets isn't promising guys playing girl elves that he'll give them free items if they start injecting HRT.
if you know what your rep starts at you can do a little math to figure out how many quest turnins or kills you'll need to nudge it a particular direction, the p99 wiki usually has that kind of info or at least guestimates from other players on what their race/class were and how many turnins they needed to advance their faction standing.

kek this is what happens you play on private servers. tlps have their issues but at least they dont make kneejerk reactions for the sake of "balance"
at least the nameplate distance fix was great
I still haven't installed the new DLL, does it crash more?
idk I haven't really crashed anywhere else than when logging out
Seems good on my end. Sadly still no fix having to turn /log on every single fricking time you camp.
>""""classic""""
The change was the right one, the net code would LD you for training entire zones and calculating the nav mesh/spell hits on 56k.
When he gonna nerf enchanters and reduce charm pet damage to mage pet levels?
enchanters were already nerfed by virtue of charm pets taking xp if they deal too much damage. no one wants to risk using one because they can't out dps one lel
Hopefully that remains through PoP. Planar charms too OP.
it definitely will. the only exception i can see is heavy duty aa farms stacking rangers who will absolutely delete the mob before the charm pet can do much but at that point you wont even need it unless its filling in as the groups tank
bards are gay
Would 2x +2 STR rings 5p each be a good investment for a noob rogue?
No. Save up for a weapon.
What if I already have a Giant Snake Fang? What would be the next weapon upgrade from that?
why does the troony dev hate bards so much? kinda glad i didnt decide to roll one on quarm.
the nerf was fricking nothing. it doesnt affect you unless youre soloing like an anti social sperg. everquest is designed for grouping with others
you clearly suck at kiting. troony hands typed this. if you stopped dilating and just played the game, you could bard kite too.
i swarmed on blue back in 2012 for like 20 levels and its the most boring thing imaginable. actually grouping and pulling is the patrician bard's choice
No one likes you bard fricks unless you're in my group.
>turning off reduced respawn on Monday
It's over, goodbye legacy gear.
where was this said? I only saw secrets mention we are getting hyper dungeon spawns again this weekend which is great.
ah that sucks but legacy drops all have manually fast spawns and high drop rates those are not being touched
unless you mean stupid shit like ghoulbane then who cares
Can I swap gold to plat at the bank somehow?
Yes.
How do I swap gold at the bank?
drag the plat into the slot you want to exchange
It's so simple yet I never even considered it. Thanks.
Can I make a halfling ranger or paladin yet?
How hard is the Thex Dagger quest and does anyone know if an agnostic gnome mage would have the faction needed?
>sold Runed Bone Fork for 75p after sitting in EC for hours walking it down

I hate arbitrage Faceless merchants
holy kek how is this still not fixed?
Too busy nerfing swarm kiting
Shut the frick up, chud! Make your own server if you think it's so easy.
ofc not. the troony dev is about to pull the plug. mark my words
eta on the meltdown? about 2 more weeks?
Where should I go looking for parties 10+? Nektulos Forest orc parties got very slow.
Nro or South Ro?
Someone invited me to the Dervish camp at WC. It seemed to be good XP.
How hard is it to get tailoring to 88 where you can make hand made backpacks? How many hundreds of plat do I gotta dump before I can start selling them to make my investment back?
I don't know how is it on your server but on TLPs you can kickstart the tradeskills with the help of you class guildmaster for basically chump change.
Estate of Unrest on the Faydwer.
Orc camps in the Commonlands.
Befallen in the Commonlands as well.

If only P99 made new content themselves that was 'classic' Of course they can't since they're terrified of upsetting the remains of their community.
it's not that p99 is scared to upset their community, it's that p99 is abandoned
i think the "classic" thing is something the devs push more than the community. literally no one asked these homosexuals to break custom UIs on Green's launch and they did it anyway.
i don't think the game really needs new content like new zones, it just needs balance and technical changes. i could see adding some dungeons for certain level brackets or something though.
the devs definition of classic is always half-assed which makes them arbitrarily ban or change some things and allow others
i don't get what's so hard about providing 'classic' as an option to those that want it and let everyone else play with the client as provided, it would make more sense than the current paradigm of "download 7 external programs to restore functions the game plays better with that were intentionally broken". it's not like we're talking about some autistic top tier of players or anything min maxing for some tiny advantage over everyone else, everyone uses all these programs and recommends them all the time so it's clear the majority of the playerbase wants to play with those features enabled anyway.
> literally no one asked these homosexuals to break custom UIs on Green's launch and they did it anyway.
>Why bother with Befallen when you can just xp grind nonstop respawning crocs in Oasis, especially when they're so close to each other.
because befallen has better drops. the ZEM should be higher too due to being an indoor zone and it has undead for your clerics, paladins and necros to dunk on
imagine being the rank and file project faceless members getting cucked daily by an acne scarred monster
Why does every
>dickless homosexual (literal)
in Quarm seethe at
>bards?
Frick your groups. You will not gaslight me into sharing xp. You want your stupid legacy items huh well I do too you stupid Black person b***h and I intend to EARN THEM. ALONE. AS BRAD INTENDED.
bucketcrabism is a cornerstone of the pervert ideology, the sickos drag everyone else down to their level
>plays THE grouping class
>doesnt want to group
>THE grouping class
>bard
Anon.... go the frick back...
it is, you rent free schizoid. 80% of your songs are meant to instantly make any group 10x better
Yeah well frick you and frick your shitty group too. This is my game. You're just losing in it.
if you wanna swarm, that is fine. just dont be completely clueless on what is expected of you in groups or raids once you hit max. dont neglect your combat/musical skills either like a total scrub
Welp can't even really swarm on project troony anymore. I'm about to just be done with this bullshit.
The other shit you said is performative and superfluous. Oh yeah, I like to solo as a bard so I don't know shit about game mechanics. Durrrr durrrrr durrrrrrrr frick off Black person
>I like to solo as a bard so I don't know shit about game mechanics
yeah, this happens all the time on p99. the average bard is too scared to pull, dies from fall damage or doesnt know what songs to twist because they spent the last 30 levels running in circles casting pbaoes
Ok you're right on that one. I do apologize for my extended family's lack of, anything of note really
NTA, but you won't be missed and I'm glad Xhey did it.
I hope your family gets cancer and raped by gorillas
