I think it is fun getting new characters and settings, I love a bunch of them from different FF games. Imagine if they'd just continued with the characters and world from the first game. I bet there'd be some fun sequels, but we'd have missed out on all the characters from other FF games.
they're always about preventing the world from being destroyed (or killing the villain after he destroys the world so people can rebuild).
it feels asinine when a setting repeatedly has world ending threats (I'm looking at you, Marvel), so it's better to do it this way.
because the worldbuilding and characterization is too shallow to justify direct sequels.
That's one of the few things about FF that's great.
Plus it leads to stuff like Dissidia, which is fun.
did you forget 4 sequel or x-12 or the 3 ff13 or ffta2
they did those because they ran out of ideas and those are outliers.
The 4 sequel is mobile shovelware that was made 30 years later. It doesn't exist in my mind.

The first thing in the opening of FF11 is a crystal. FF11's opening is awesome.
I still quote that fricking opening.
"It all began with a stone. Or so the legend says."
the crystals are still important in 9, but they don't show up until the end.
7 has the big materia. 8 has the crystal pillar for the lunar cry. Not exactly central parts but still key moments
Do NOT tell OP about FFIV:TAY

That's the best part about the series. That's why I love it. Small things tie it all together. Every game should be different in a way
