Everybody loves this game because the devs prioritize content over profit, but is it actually fun?
Yes, we all hate microtransaction, and yes, we prefer games that are complete with fully fleshed out content that don't frick us over with DLC, but ultimately, is the game actually fun to play?
is Gale just a tweaker i swear i've seen people acting like him on the streets looking for drugs
im NOT giving him more items
t. act 1
He'll only eat three or four in total, and most magic items in the game are garbage.
Nothing will hold a candle to the old school CRPGs of the golden era. You used to be able to spend money on good writers and watch the plot play out in your imagination as the text drifts silently across the page. Now, there is an army of animators, voice actors, etc. that eat up most of your budget so everything that's left over for writing costs are the crumbs.
>muh 90's writers
I bet you think old Blizzard writing was good.
>I bet you think old Blizzard writing was good
Before WoW, it most definitely was.
>nostalgiagayging this hard
Picrel was a hell of a better story than whatever slop they're putting out now
>Garithos I'm racist towards elves for no fricking reason?
Sure bud.
> People have well thought-out and scientifically validated reasons for their prejudices
>already making excuses for the writing
I agree that the writing in BG3 is nothing special but "old school" "golden era" CRPGs really are not any more engaging in terms of story. Only Torment and Arcanum rise above the mediocrity.
>Only Torment and Arcanum rise above the mediocrity.
Betrayal at Krondor, you pleb
Even the interactive toolset tutorial called "Neverwinter Nights" mogs any game made in the last 15 years.
I found it rather tedious.
>have to not ever talk to companions unless I want to frick them because that's all their companion quest lines lead to
>their dialogue is childish reddit cringe anyway and their backstories are the kind of OC donut steel trash that would get your DM to take you aside and politely tell you to not be such a fricking weiner in a real D&D group
>by the way everyone else's dialogue is childish reddit cringe too and the story blows its entire load in the first cutscene, you start out with planeswalking and gith dragon riders and devils clashing in the skies of hell itself and then you're fricking around with goblins for the next 10 hours
>sometimes the quippy humor can evoke mild amusement, but that's only because they've taken the D-day approach to comedy writing, just throw as many jokes as possible at the player and hope one out of a hundred will be funny
>everything is as broad and generic and childishly moralizing as can be imagined (le innocent dindunuffin refugees vs the evil callous isolationist chud white peo-I mean druids) and despite taking place in a fantasy universe with a whole selection of nationalities and histories, all the humans everywhere in the game are as diverse as a group of san franciscans and almost as gay
And then you get to actually playing the fricking game and it's just shitty 5e combat and the optimal way to play would be to turn everyone in to 3 fighters plus Gale to cast sleep and hold person
even the most generic old CRPGs at least knew to start small and build the story from there, they didn't have narrative ADHD
You could try Colony Ship RPG.
i am having fun with it.
As someone that really likes DnD, and was never able to get into the cRPG style, yes, the game is very fun. The combat has enough depth to keep it entertaining, and even though the second half of the game can get pretty buggy, and that Mind Flayers are super infuriating to fight, the cons are not bad enough to ruin the game. I'm almost finished with it, so hopefully the endings are good too. If Larian keeps supporting the game, fixing bugs and adding in new subclasses, races, and items then I'll be playing it repeatedly for a long time.
>walk into room
>forced cutscene with dialogue options
>"oh cool lets see what this room full of people is about"
>after 10min of conversation i play my character like i want and its a brawl
>die after almost 15min, hard battle
>LAST SAVE: 3 hours ago
duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude awesome
skill issue
more like save after every single thing that happens
to be fair, that's the most baldur's gate thing about this game
yes
next question please
The combat and implementation of 5e are both very good. Unfortunately 5e sucks and Larian still has no good writers, so the story is an absolute mess
>3 human males and 1 elf male on the box art
>1 elf female
>1 frog looking thing that wants to rape you at every opportunity
this game was made for women and gays
Theres 3 males and 3 females moron, you completely ignored the succubus and halucinated an extra human male, what a moronic metric to judge a vidya on anyway
>but is it actually fun?
>5e
The game sucks. There is an advertising campaign happening right now where larian interns and unpaid discord troony volunteers are spamming social media with discussion about the game to try and instill a fear of missing out on naive people so they buy the game thinking some big cultural event is happening. If you fall for it you are low iq.
You realize you can pirate the game and play it yourself right?
The amount of schizo posting over this despite it being readily piratable just screams of zoomer homosexualry
You fell it for it because you're a fricking rube. I bet you watched squid game and tiger king too lmao
have you actually tried forming your own opinion?
You're right. Consoom first, think second
contrarian cucklord detected. Yes, there is woke bullshit in this game. The reason its making waves however, is because there is also quality to be found.
the fact you dont see that tells all. games like this arent flooding the market, try to be a little more positive sometimes
This game is dragon age tier. Go suck a dwarf dick you fricking loser lmao
apologize to dragon age, at least in that the combat isn't a fricking slog
Game's trash. Looks pathetic and cringe.
No. 5E sucks.
>The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies except humans are dwarves
Just finished Act 1 and it's good. Gameplay is very beginner friendly and on the shallower side to accommodate for that, but it's got a decent pace to it so far, as despite me putting 40 hours into just Act 1 I'm not burnt out. Character wise, so far they're not too interesting and the story is basic but fine. Honestly the game reminds me of Dragon Age Origins more than anything. A good beginner CRPG.
The game is alright. I would say a 7.5/10.
I honestly don't understand the hype and all the buzz this game is getting. Gameplay looks fairly ordinary, writing doesn't look spectacular and it's not some huge audiovisual spectacle. I am aware that it might be entirely a me issue, I'd even be able to accept it as a good game that I have no interest in, but when all people praise is the lack of abusive monetization, it confuses me.
It has a big marketing push so all the the "influencers" are jumping in on it because of that, and the game itself solid and has no real flaws to drag it down. Yeah it's not the best the genre has to offer (basic story, and gameply) but what normalgay friendly game ever is?
>Gameplay looks fairly ordinary
Compared to everything that's come out in the last decade or so it actually feels fresh. When it comes to CRPGs just about every other developer in recent memory has been content to just copy either Bethesda's old RTWP combat which is basically just Diablo with a pause button or Nu X-Com's combat system depending on whether it's a sci-fi or fantasy setting. Larian's basically the only developer that's bothered to deviate from that shit.
The combat really drags it down, it's very simplistic and slow. Classes don't feel all that different to one another because all their spells are just different flavors of the same handful of mechanics, there's really only so much you can do in a turn-based system.
