Platinum is the most high standards game in the franchise, it's the polar opposite of BDSP, BDSP changed things about DP in a junky and poorly implemented way, Platinum changed things about DP in an actually well designed way that makes it actually better than DP.
Take the dex for examplle, both BDSP and Platinum added more available pokemon, but Platinum actually updated the regional dex to account for it, while BDSP didn't and just doesn't registers new pokemon in the regional dex, which makes zero sense.

gen 4 is a merging of the design philosophies of gens 2 and 3, with the former being an evolution of gen 1. it's the definitive classic pokemon experience.
and, at the risk of starting a genwar, it's telling that when people try to point out problems with sinnoh it's always stuff that's only an issue in DP.
No, it's always stuff that isn't an issue in any game, that they just pretend is an issue when talking about Sinnoh specifically
every time I replay it I can't force myself to play it. All the interesting pokemon are locked behind Fantina (around Pastoria, realistically), and I want to use more than just my starter for the first half of the game.

It was an improvement on everything D/P did and added a few things that just made the game flow better. The dex was great, the gen 4 moves were great, the physical special split in gen 4 made everything feel fresh and new (frick people who say it ruined the games), everything felt like an improvement from gen 3, which is my personal favorite generation. Overall, gen 4 was fantastic and Platinum was an absolute beast of 3rd version. And then it also gets the shine of being in the same gen as HGSS which were fantastic games in their own right.
Gen 4 was when they had their "put in as much content as we can" design philosophy the most, that's why it's so good, there's just so much stuff to do in it

I do. Gen 6 is very flawed and I don't love it like I do Gen 4, but I don't think it deserves all the hate it gets

I like the sense of history in them. Sinnoh has ruins and the Arceus plates everywhere, and also the public library where you can read about the people from old Sinnoh. Kalos has its war story, the old castles from 100+ years ago, the Mega Stone relics all tying back to AZ. Lysandre inheriting fame and tech from his ancestors is one of the few villain backstories that tracked with the region design. Kalos has probably the deepest history to me other than Sinnoh, so I’m glad that Legend Z is coming next.

Nah, as a Gen 4 fan I hate the original Black and White.
i logged in at fat tinas gym w/ the togepi egg i got last year and hatched it, was bored, and quit out.
I've been wanting to do a kind of permadeath run of Platinum but not a Nuzlocke exactly; I trade myself 1 egg per town so my team acquisition is planned out kind of like an old Fire Emblem game.
Any suggestions for cool unique mons who deserve their due day on the cat walk I can use for my playthrough? Bonus points for fun or interesting egg moves.

The third versions/sequels tend to fix most of the gameplay issues with the previous versions. It's not always for the better, but 99% of the time I'd rather play Emerald or Platinum than their previous versions.
How do I stop being soulless then? The entire region is built around sucking off the Creation Trio.
