New to fighting games. Tried Strive a few months back when it came to Game Pass and bought SF6. I really enjoy both. SF6 has a bit slower and more deliberate play style, and is by far a much more complete game package with different modes and an online setup that bodies Strive. It’s objectively the better game. That said, I do have more fun with strive with its mondo jam soundtrack and it’s gorgeous visuals (and I’m not even an anime weeb.) Tried MK11 and it’s a big clunky shit.
I'm unfamiliar with game release timelines for fg games. How long should we be expecting for tekken 8 to launch? If it's out by next year june I'll probably just wait til then
I'll be obligated to learn all three new characters once I wrap my head around all the other characters I can play.
Might even commit to learning Yuzu this time around and personally dunk on those to-be Akatsuki mains.

SF6 swept everything, UMvC3 was promising at the start and fizzled out pretty hard by the end and the rest ran into the same problems outside of MK11 which was the only Mirror Match setup that didn't have a sweep in it which is really dire to think about.

All the japs are holding their announcements to TGS 2023, at least Capcom is holding the teaser for the new Monster Hunter, DLC for RE4 and date for DD2.

Not sure why you keep saying that when you get access to netplay and the original game's story. You also get full access to Gran Bruise (the Fall Guys mode).
for a f2p fighting game, the idea is that theres a chance for you to play or fight against all chars in one way or another, even if that means wait a week for the next rotation (unless you aldo get to pick a permanent guy as your main).
if you dont get that then its basically the same as what the demo of SF6 is, a demo.

Bring able to reaction punish a fireball with a single button press is fricking stupid, but nerfing super would frick up combos, block punishes, AA punishes, and wake ups. But for for Hisoutensoku, P4A and Granblue, that's where you actually utilize the autocombo for optimal shit as well, so it's not just a crutch. For Melty and KoF it's more of a mechanic that's taped on the side of the old "real" combo system. But for KoF you can easilly combo into supers by mashing, so I though it might be up your alley.
If you mean games with chains instead of links then most anime games, Marvel, and KoF are like that.

No it's not. The majority of your combos are either going to be chaining 2B into 2A into a special or chaining close C/D into a command normal and canceling into a special.
Links, like close A into close C/D, exist but they're situational and optional unless you really want to optimize things.

You have to hitconfim very fast normals into specials very quickly. It's easy to drop stuff.
I guess you can count juggling with specials as links but then that means every game with juggle combos also has links.
The point is, your main way of hit confirming into a combo involves chains which makes it a chain based game.
Well Sam Sho will probably be seeing activity when rollback drops in September. KOFXV has crossplay so you should be good on that front. UMVC3 you'll have to hit up discord and use Parsec to play with others unless you have friends who want to play it with you. Capcom Fighting Collection is a waste when fightcade exists unfortunately.

Theoretically a complete unknown could walk into Evo having never competed in any tournament before in their life, pay the entry fee, and make it all the way to the end and win the championship.
This has not quite happened, but there have been players who only played in very small tournaments of little reknown come in and win the whole thing.
It ended up being the slowest, least unga game on main stage this year except maybe Tekken. Had a bafflingly good grand finals somehow which it really had no fricking business having.
Grand finals was literally Gamera researching a match up literally no one in the world knows on the spot, giving up a set to it, then breaking it down so hard after the download to frame perfect some interactions by the last match. We barely ever see play that methodical in any game since Infiltration's ban.

One round of grand finals ended so fricking quickly that the cameras only transitioned to it from commentary as it ended.
The game can ironically be really neutral heavy sometimes since some match ups have both players sitting far away from each other, trying to fish for counter hits with safe buttons so those games end up looking slow until someone explodes.

i think the issue with strive is just that it's not very interactive
it looked like happy chaos was playing solitaire the entire top 6
you basically keep trading resources until someone has to finally commit to guess.
it's a 2 touch game that has some dressing on it to make it look like a 3 or 4 touch game.
the problem with MvC3 was the infinites which ended up with people watching the same 3-5 attacks over and over for like a full minute and Zero loops because even if it goes by much faster than infinites, when it's Jibril hitting them you know he isn't dropping them so that character is dead
I don't remember infinites being as prevalent a few years ago and I certainly didn't see anyone who never dropped a Zero loop ever. At least Morrigan SF spam allowed people to play Ikaruga and get through the bullet hell but now Morrigan can infinite as well apparently. Feels like people "solved" MvC3 when there was still ways to throw a wrench in the gears not too long ago. And for this EVO specifically you had the weirdo specialists get weeded out until it was straight up meta teams so that put a massive damper on the hype as well.
I'd say what happened was that MvC3 was effectively solved years ago, but unexplored options still let people get checks in for wins. Now enough time has passed that what were effectively cheese strategies just no longer function, because we've tried them all already.
Technically EVERY character has a THC infinite they can do, a bit more accessible if they have a fly/unfly.
THC infinites really picked up after Marlinpie basically reinvented it for common use. First it was about swagging but then it became about meter generation and the ability to straight up delete a character if the opponent didn't guess right.

Marvel is a roulette wheel. Depending on who is playing you're either going to see something hype or the most boring cookie cutter shit imaginable.
Strive is a terrible game on its own merits and that carries over to spectating it. The entire game is a snoozefest because one mistake loses you the round so both people are playing safe until they can fish for an opening to start pressure (unless HC is on the screen, then it just becomes 10X more boring).
I think tonight really proved that SF6 is a dying game. Nothing but Ken's, Luke's, and Chun Li's up and down the bracket. It was hype in the moment because it's new but the actual meta of the game was proven to be incredibly shallow.

The whole cast of Strive outside of 4 characters does not need rebalancing, but they would if there was no wallbreak. One of the strongest things in the game is the ability to consistently wall slump, if looping some setup in the corner didn't even require a specific setup the game would be even more volatile than it already is.
Remove damage nerf on SP-Only Modern Specials that can no longer be done with a motion.

There is literally no one thing that can fix the game, you'd need to overhaul movement, move sets, the tension meter, etc. You can start by lowering the damage. But you should probably just make a new game with none of the current leads involved.
haitani made top 6 winners with modern chun but got destroyed, shuto made top 24 with modern marisa and barely lost to tokido. Didn't see any other modern players in top 96 but maybe there were 1 or 2 more. Thing is that is pretty much all it has going for it. Everyone doom posted about 1 button dps and 360s but they've not been the issue. Like okay if you have meter you can punish most shit free. That is very useful early on as it is a strong universal answer. But as the game goes on people will optimise so do great damage for free and then insane damage with meter in a combo. Raw supers aren't the smartest move for a good reason. I think there will be certain match ups were modern is a nice option while maining it will overall be a disadvantage.
Everyone was saying as much that high level has transcended regular play and it's only been out 2 months or so. Especially now that SF has quality netcode it's become much easier for the upper echelon to grind out new tech to amaze everybody with.
Learn like 3 combos with him and you're golden. You build up meter with him like crazy because unlike the rest of the cast, you don't need to spend meter for a hard knockdown and better off spending it on using 22C at the end of combos to armor up.

I don't play Kekken but all of the b***hing about Lab Coat was justified because of her insane command grab super that defied the typical rules of the game while also nerfing a character's damage permanently on top of her having frame data and move properties that would have made her top tier regardless. DBFZ's history has been a non stop conga line of broken dlc characters so it says something that 21 was the character that finally broke the community and got people to call for bans. Vergil is strong on his own, but it's really x-factor that pushes him to stupid territory and that's a universal mechanic that's stupid on its own. I don't really see them as the same thing.

Im sad because it’s quite clearly Melty’s last year at EVO. There’s more of a chance that Actress Again sticks around as “the Melty Blood” than Type Lumina. Half because most the players already play it, half because Type Moon (not French Bread) have done nothing to help Lumina appeal to the core Melty fanbase.
There were more Neco Arc appearances and Mario mirrors than there were Ushi appearances. I think I saw one Count of Monte Cristo mirror. There was also one Mash. It’s quite clear to me that either Fate fans are not good enough to be fighting game players, or they never cared about Melty Blood and that trying to appeal to them didn’t work.
It’s a shame because Lumina isn’t even mechanically a bad game. The speed and movement really is the defining features and the animations and all have so much love put into them.

New to fighting games. Tried Strive a few months back when it came to Game Pass and bought SF6. I really enjoy both. SF6 has a bit slower and more deliberate play style, and is by far a much more complete game package with different modes and an online setup that bodies Strive. It’s objectively the better game. That said, I do have more fun with strive with its mondo jam soundtrack and it’s gorgeous visuals (and I’m not even an anime weeb.) Tried MK11 and it’s a big clunky shit.

But for for Hisoutensoku, P4A and Granblue, that's where you actually utilize the autocombo for optimal shit as well, so it's not just a crutch. For Melty and KoF it's more of a mechanic that's taped on the side of the old "real" combo system. But for KoF you can easilly combo into supers by mashing, so I though it might be up your alley.
by mashing I mean you don't have to learn any links and you can just mash the inputs and the buffer will make everything come out right

You have to hitconfim very fast normals into specials very quickly. It's easy to drop stuff.
I guess you can count juggling with specials as links but then that means every game with juggle combos also has links.
The point is, your main way of hit confirming into a combo involves chains which makes it a chain based game.

Strive is weird to me because it feels so slow for a game where you can convert for huge damage.
One round of grand finals ended so fricking quickly that the cameras only transitioned to it from commentary as it ended.
The game can ironically be really neutral heavy sometimes since some match ups have both players sitting far away from each other, trying to fish for counter hits with safe buttons so those games end up looking slow until someone explodes.
Supposedly someone said part of the season 3 balance update was less damage and walls only breaking on super.

the problem with MvC3 was the infinites which ended up with people watching the same 3-5 attacks over and over for like a full minute and Zero loops because even if it goes by much faster than infinites, when it's Jibril hitting them you know he isn't dropping them so that character is dead

I don't remember infinites being as prevalent a few years ago and I certainly didn't see anyone who never dropped a Zero loop ever. At least Morrigan SF spam allowed people to play Ikaruga and get through the bullet hell but now Morrigan can infinite as well apparently. Feels like people "solved" MvC3 when there was still ways to throw a wrench in the gears not too long ago. And for this EVO specifically you had the weirdo specialists get weeded out until it was straight up meta teams so that put a massive damper on the hype as well.
I'd say what happened was that MvC3 was effectively solved years ago, but unexplored options still let people get checks in for wins. Now enough time has passed that what were effectively cheese strategies just no longer function, because we've tried them all already.
Technically EVERY character has a THC infinite they can do, a bit more accessible if they have a fly/unfly.
THC infinites really picked up after Marlinpie basically reinvented it for common use. First it was about swagging but then it became about meter generation and the ability to straight up delete a character if the opponent didn't guess right.

Strive is a terrible game on its own merits and that carries over to spectating it. The entire game is a snoozefest because one mistake loses you the round so both people are playing safe until they can fish for an opening to start pressure (unless HC is on the screen, then it just becomes 10X more boring).

The whole cast of Strive outside of 4 characters does not need rebalancing, but they would if there was no wallbreak. One of the strongest things in the game is the ability to consistently wall slump, if looping some setup in the corner didn't even require a specific setup the game would be even more volatile than it already is.

Remove damage nerf on SP-Only Modern Specials that can no longer be done with a motion.
Nerf Raw Modern Supers further to 70% max damage.

haitani made top 6 winners with modern chun but got destroyed, shuto made top 24 with modern marisa and barely lost to tokido. Honestly modern doesn't seem inherently overpowered or anything but 1 button supers mean it's like an entirely different matchup which is gay as shit, they should just ban it from cpt

Thing is that is pretty much all it has going for it. Everyone doom posted about 1 button dps and 360s but they've not been the issue. Like okay if you have meter you can punish most shit free. That is very useful early on as it is a strong universal answer. But as the game goes on people will optimise so do great damage for free and then insane damage with meter in a combo. Raw supers aren't the smartest move for a good reason. I think there will be certain match ups were modern is a nice option while maining it will overall be a disadvantage.

I don't play Kekken but all of the b***hing about Lab Coat was justified because of her insane command grab super that defied the typical rules of the game while also nerfing a character's damage permanently on top of her having frame data and move properties that would have made her top tier regardless. DBFZ's history has been a non stop conga line of broken dlc characters so it says something that 21 was the character that finally broke the community and got people to call for bans. Vergil is strong on his own, but it's really x-factor that pushes him to stupid territory and that's a universal mechanic that's stupid on its own. I don't really see them as the same thing.

Honestly it was the most anti-climactic GF. Really deflated after consistently fun and impressive pools and top rounds.
Im sad because it’s quite clearly Melty’s last year at EVO. There’s more of a chance that Actress Again sticks around as “the Melty Blood” than Type Lumina. Half because most the players already play it, half because Type Moon (not French Bread) have done nothing to help Lumina appeal to the core Melty fanbase.
There were more Neco Arc appearances and Mario mirrors than there were Ushi appearances. I think I saw one Count of Monte Cristo mirror. There was also one Mash. It’s quite clear to me that either Fate fans are not good enough to be fighting game players, or they never cared about Melty Blood and that trying to appeal to them didn’t work.
It’s a shame because Lumina isn’t even mechanically a bad game. The speed and movement really is the defining features and the animations and all have so much love put into them.
