Game has no rpg at all to it. Just a generic button masher. Upset I didn't wait to read more critic reviews. The rpg stuff is 'equip newest stuff always, mess with stat screens that go up on their own anyway'. Pretty sure Ragnarok had more rpg to it. Which sucks wiener since the game runs at 35-40fps constantly and hits fricking 720p all the time. Painfully bad to play on a larger display.

XVI, on the other hand, was the FF game everyone was looking at to see if it could redeem the mainline FF. It's a decent game, but not the perfect 10/10 people were hoping for to wash away literal decades of mainline failures.
Going into the final act of the game and it's honestly real 8/10. Music is weak and generic for the most part, which makes it shit in reality because music is the one thing FF does particularly well. Pacing is a bit fricky for the first bit. It seems ashamed to have to start somewhere, it really just wants to be in the thick of it. It does the in media res bullshit twice and then the whole Garuda arc just feels forced but after that the story and characters become good, it's just that the gameplay stagnates for a while because you're stuck with only Phoenix and Garuda as your summons for an incredibly long stretch of game. Anything else bad I have to say is just nitpick stuff like a frickin terrible photo mode or overlong battle result screens
