Explain how Bethesda fell between Skyrim to Starfield, and if you think they can make a comeback.

Explain how Bethesda fell between Skyrim to Starfield, and if you think they can make a comeback. IMO Fallout 4 was the worst bethesda game narrative wise (I dont know about Starfield, its gameplay was trash so I didnt bother and I never heard about anything else, if theres some secret amazing plot I wouldnt know) but between 76 (after updates) and the show, I think they could salvage the good will they lost and make more decent products. Far Harbor was pretty good, and 76 made me feel emotions some times

At the bare minimum it would still be an RPG.

Where's the proof for that? It's not Autumn's goal mind you.

Autumn worked for Eden, Autumn gets the Water, Eden then uploads kill everyone.exe. Its the ultimate plan of the Enclave to do so, unless you have some headcanon about Autumn killing Eden or disobeying orders. Youre moronic to think this isnt the major goal of the Enclave with the water, even if the fodder dont realize. Plus, giving the source of water to the Enclave isnt a good idea, do you honestly think theyd use it for good? Did you fall for Sneedclave memes? Theyre an objectively evil facist paramilitary you shouldnt join or support

I really doubt Autumn would disobey something as simple as "Put a tube in a tube hole and hit a button, this is for America" compared to "Let the psychopath whos dad died telling him how evil we, and after we kidnapped him, to come see me, the president, alone. Also give him all his weapons and free reign over our facility lol"
No one is saying FO3 has good writing, but at least dont be a dumb frick about whats wrong with it. There are plenty of other reasons FO3 has bad writing then your mad up shit

                >Autumn worked for Eden, Autumn gets the Water, Eden *cope cope cope cope cope*
Not the point. Only Eden knows what his plan is until he tells the player at the end of the story.
Liam Neeson dies and tells you that you should die too before the player ever learns this.
Even if the player definitively chooses not to poison the water and kill Eden, the game makes you have a nice day to avoid purifying the water, because the Enclave might get the credit for it, and that would be heckin' bad.
The more you defend Fallout 3's story, the more moronic you sound.

                >Not the point. Only Eden knows what his plan is until he tells the player at the end of the story.
Yeah, thats kind of the point of secret genocide plots dumb ass. That doesnt mean that only the player character can be Edens puppet, its his plan and he runs the Enclave. This is like saying without the player the Legion will never attack the dam, dont be an idiot.
                >Liam Neeson dies and tells you that you should die too before the player ever learns this.
Maybe because the Enclave are evil scumbags and everyone knows it and whatever they plan to do with the water obviously cant be good.
                >Even if the player definitively chooses not to poison the water and kill Eden, the game makes you have a nice day to avoid purifying the water, because the Enclave might get the credit for it, and that would be heckin' bad.
No? Did you play the fricking game? You have to have a nice day because the radiation is leaking and someone needs to input the code. Enclave or not someone needs to do it, even power armor wont protect you. This is a completely separate issue
                >The more you defend Fallout 3's story, the more moronic you sound.
Or maybe youre moronic and cant understand the world still keeps going without the player characters involvement in everything. Eden would still poison the water his faction now controls with or without you doing it for him, he will just get some other lackey. Again, to not believe this would happen is to believe the Legion would never attack the dam without the courier.

Also, you somehow survive the massive radiation poisoning because DUH.

Again, not the issue we are talking about even if a valid complaint. I dont think Fo3 is that good of a story even if I dont hate it, but at least hate it for real reasons instead of tying yourself into knots making up bullshit that doesnt make sense like "Enclave are actually good guys who wont poison the water like their leader wants we swear!"

I genuinely dont understand whats stopping them from simply hiring good writiers, it cant be hard. Instead they get morons like Emil. Everyone for decades has pointed out Bethesdas major flaw is writing, thats it. Every issue usually traces back to that, gameplay is mostly nitpicks if were being honest.

Main quest is fine for what it is, the issue is that it's a pretty linear one for a Fallout game. A lot of people had issues with the ending specifically because of that but I just take it for what it is, it makes it more enjoyable.

Didn't Starfield have a much larger team than Skyrim? Like 2 or 3 times the size? That would explain it. Larger team sizes lead to less creative input from individual employees, they just become cogs in a machine, and they have to have constant meetings to organize everyone. Smaller teams lead to richer games.

Larger team and no central design document, only localized design documents for each team.

On the topic of some people thinking Fallout 3 has good story and writing while others think it's complete dogshit: Consider the diarrhoea of college writing assignment pretentiousness that is Bioshock Infinite AND the reaction it got from the gaming press at the time, calling it the most amazing interactive literary magnum ever and proof of video games being real echter Kunst.
Discourse on quality of writing in video games is dead. Dogshit writing in open-world exploration-centered games is considered "fun" and dogshit shallow political and social commentaries that only a high schooler should be given a pass for considering deep are called "smart".
Could be worse I guess, a large chunk of its audience considers Hazbin Hotel's writing "good".

Sometimes I wonder how different the world would look if Obsidian got to keep making fallout games and as their studio diminished in quality over time people who harp on them and beg Bethesda to be allowed to use the IP again. Genuinely what do you think Obsidian would do with he IP if given the chance to keep using it, more NCR games?

If obsidian kept making fallout, it would free Bethesda to make more elder scrolls, which would have a similar decline in quality.

Brand new IP, so no part of the setting was safe from Todd and Emil.
    >factions
Two superficially distinct groups that fought in the past but are now at peace, there's no real conflict to drive a story forward.
Ah, and space bandits to populate space bandit camps and give the player something to fight.
    >map
A handful of actual locations + practically infinite empty worldspaces and randomly copypasted space dungeons.
    >main story
Muh space dragonborn, except you don't get to see anything as cool as a dragon.

The reality is that Bethesda never fell, they have always made shit games that look amazing for its time due to the scale. And modders fixing the game for Bethesda. The problem is that Bethesda never learnt how to make good games and it was only a matter of time before the audiences realized it. This is like a football player who became a star due to sheer athleticism and never learnt the fundamentals, then his career felt apart once age and injuries took away him athleticism. Square Enix is going through the exact same problem right now.

I kept wondering how Bethesda managed to go from Morrowind to Oblivion/Fallout 3 with such frickton of marketing behind it for a rather shallow open world. But looking closer at it it all dawned on me: Morrowind was made with the Original Xbox in mind and was the only game besides Halo: CE on that console managing to stay in top ten sales for over a year. And then it all makes sense how they knew consoles was where the money was at with less roleplaying mechanics and fully voiced characters.

Because it turns out progressively dumbing shit down and cutting corners can only go so far. And re-releasing the same game for a decade isn’t a good business model in the long run.
