you need more VRAM for texture mods
other than that, pretty good card

does this include texture mods on old early 2000s and late 90s games?

If you enjoy your weekly driver error crash and wasting 5 minutes everytime you boot compiling shaders, AMD is perfectly fine.

if you mean a midrange gpu, lol? depends on what you want out of games and how long until you buy a new card. if 1080p 60fps is fine, card will last a long time.

      >If you enjoy your weekly driver error crash and wasting 5 minutes everytime you boot compiling shaders, AMD is perfectly fine.
had the card for a year and the only issue with it i've had is that the original dragons dogma runs like shit unless you put some exe or something in the root folder i forgot, worked like a charm after that and never looked back. Yeah 1080p 60fps i'll upgrade to 1440p in a decade or two maybe

        maybe
i have a modded skyrim install that uses 11 GB of VRAM, for me the point of a new GPU is to play the old games that i like at ridiculous quality settings and resolution

This, I even went from a 580 8gb to 6600, in 10 years of using AMD the only driver issue I had was when I had to switch to onboard graphics temporarily after bumping my PC off the desk, and windows fricked with my drivers.

compiling shaders also only ever happens on first launch. Nvidia shills are the most insufferable lying c**ts on this shit site, worse than consoletards.

It's a hard video card to use. You need to be knowledgeable about video cards to get the most out of it.

      Anonymous

How? I never mess with the driver too much. It just works decently for a cheaper card.

        saucy

You can: undervolt it, overvolt it, overclock it, underclock it, get up-to-date drivers, preview drivers that do cool stuff like FMF and more, and a bunch of other stuff that will generally smooth out your experience, and raise the longevity of the card by years.

Not always, people make it seem like Nvidia drivers are bad, but they are much simpler to use sometimes. Especially with getting windowed game support, or things like RTX running without a problem. The RX6600 is a good card if you can spin the hell out of its features, but most people won't be sitting there thinking to themselves, "hmm let me buy a cheap $200 card so I can have features that require intimate knowledge of the hardware," they'll want something that just works, like a 3090 or a 7900xt.

the drivers themselves as far as stability is concerned isn't a real issue these days, the only time I've had stability issues was with too much of an undervolt on my 7800XT
depending on your budget and your resolution both nvidia and amd have decent options for sub $1000 cards, past $1000 you're looking at pure performance and not price/performance and that's nvidia territory for sure right now and into the next generation
