It's almost like story and mood are what gives a game soul and actually touches your feelings and makes it likeable and memorable.

I honestly wonder if they got inspired by this

It just sounds too similar, from the instruments to the very specific sound of the chanting (which was inspired by Bulgarian women's choirs, a VERY specific thing that Kenji Kawai got inspired by for this piece when he made it)

The player can't tell without looking into the code but the Milotic you fight in the pond is actually a Ghost teratype
The same pokemon that leaves a piece of crystal behind after you defeat it, right before Briar shows up talking about how the crystals emit the same energy as tera crystals

The time machine isn't implied to have anything to do with Terapagos itself, it just uses Tera Cystals. Thr game says that Tera Crystals allow for technology beyond what is currently possible. The AI professor is another example.
Even if imagination theory turns out correct it is entirely possible it is a real time machine created through that power just like the AI professor is an AI and their robot body is an actual robot.
I don't get how people jump from "Terapagos power is materializing imagination/desire as crystals" to "everything in the game is fake"

I actually wonder if just Terapagos is the power source, and the actual item, the literal Indigo Disk, is the item that is utilized by Terapagos to take it’s Terastal form.

It could be when Terapagos utilizes the 19th Tera Type, that form is meant to be the origin of the Paradox Pokémon? Perhaps the actual Indigo Disk by itself can be charged with Tera Energy to generate Pokemon, and could likely even be part of the Time Machine, which is why the Professors believed what it was doing was actual time travel? It’s a theory at least.

          Anonymous

The 19th tera type requiring an item would be interesting, because I can't think of how they'd make an omnitype otherwise that doesn't invalidate every other tera type.

            Anonymous

Just make it so the 19th type only lasts 3 turns or something, or cuts your moveset in half

            Anonymous

I don’t think it will require an item to be used by every Pokémon, but Terapagos, specifically the form of the 19th TeraType Crown, might require the Indigo Disk for a special ‘tera form’ like how Ogerpon has it’s masks terastalize.

            Anonymous

What if you can only use the 19th type if Terapagos is on your team? That way it can be an OP singleplayer thing without having to worry about its impact on multiplayer matches.

I think the problem is that people are trying to connect everything to one single theme or power when the game just doesn't do that.

well if you wanna go back to the very beginning and decide if paradox pokemon are fictional creatures brought to life or if they time traveled.
if they were fictional creatures brought to life then that can only mean it’s the imagination reality bender people have been talking about over the past year

                >people have been talking about over the past year
Well, not really. Once the game came out and Khu explained the riddles the imagination theory dropped off hard, the only people who believe it now are shitposters and clickbait poketubers.
Anyway, there's nothing in game saying Terapagos is the embodiment of anything or has any special powers beyond providing energy.

                >you do realize people came up with imagination theory outside of khu right?
You'd have a point if that were true but it comes entirely from misinterpreting Khu otherwise there would be evidence of it in game. That's why the theory is more about "debunking" time travel rather than proving imagination.
Even now you don't want to provide any because you know it doesn't exist.

The closest thing to evidence in game was Arven saying it was weird while hinting at a time paradox but you people took it the wrong way and instead of seeing it as foreshadowing you saw it as debunking time travel. But the funny thing is, even if you think it debunks time travel it also doesn't suggest imagination so you're still at square 1 anyway.

But you're not going to read any of this, you're just going to avoid the conversation because you don't want to accept imagination makes no sense.

I don't think you're totally off making that comparison. Crystals are featured in every Final Fantasy game, and they are often:
      1. A Power Source
      2. Related to the dead or past civilizations
      3. Have Time/Space warping or defying properties

FFX's crystals specifically have all of these properties. They are the game's level up currency as well as the save and fast travel system - power, time, and space. They are made by infusing water with literal spirits, are used to power the impossibly advanced machinery of the old world, are able to project images that match the desire of the viewer (especially departed loves ones), spontaneously summon monsters, contain souls and memories, and can even turn dreams into physical reality.

I mean, sure, wilder coincidences happen, I'm not calling it a direct rip off or even an influence. But you can def see where the themes overlap more than superficially; Memories of the past haunt us in tangible ways that can once again be given life if the wrong person wills it... Not to mention both games have kinda harrowing takes on parental neglect.

If time travel was the answer, we’d probably have all the fossil Pokémon available but it’s only Sinnoh’s for Indigo Disk

Is this the best lore moment Pokemon had so far?
Like wtf, the SS dlc was so shit the only thing I was curious about were the new regis and the music(was more dissapointing than USUM somehow)
    But this? This is insane
The SV dlc will literally complete the games story arc(r-right?). While the IoA and the CT are literally the okwhatevertoughbeit to the base game.

They got actual writers for gen 9

Yeah it seems like they changed up the writing team or something cause the difference really is insane. I think they caught so much flack for SwSh for its dogshit story that they felt like they really had to change something.
Also I wouldn't count on SV completing literally all story arcs. It might happen, but I wouldn't put my hopes up tbh.

I’d hold off on calling the lore good until we get Indigo Disk. Gamefreak could completely shit the bed with the reveal (or do no reveal at all) and ruin the whole thing.

It depends entirely on the payoff. This set up is legitimately interesting and cool but that's all it's been so far. A rug pull flip on the initial advertised premise is cool, but when you answer that that rug pull in the end with only hints at what is actually causing things and then spend a year slowly giving more hints but that ultimately aren't consequential, you eventually need to conclude.

What makes SV work in comparison to all of the mainline entries before it is the storyline approach GF took with the game. Every storyline has a definite beginning and end, with each one focusing upon a few specific characters alongside the Protagonist. This manner of storytelling has been present since maybe BW, but more so XY, and it feels to have finally been perfected in SV.
Each tale, the overarching plot, and the lore underneath everything seems to be weaving together... nicely, which is rare for the series. There is no gigantic, haphazard web of connections that the Protagonist simply "find" themselves in time and again. Each story has a mission where events fall into place.
As a side, it's baffling how none of SwSh's stories, including DLC, ever came together. Would it have been so hard to say that Calyrex, Glastrier/Spectrier, Zacian, Zamazenta, and Urshifu were all the heroes of Galar in their own ways? A king, his steed, his knights, and a guardian (armour).

SwSh in general felt all over the place because there isn’t a consistent theme or narrative to follow. SV has been gradually building up it’s narrative and lore so I figure they planned some massive reveal at the very end with Indigo Disk. even Horizon’s isn’t really giving any hints either other than baby terapagos from the pendant doing things

Play the game, he stole the Teal Mask and you find him in the park, then battle for the mask. He goes apeshit and punches the gravestone, then admits defeat and gives you the mask.

What's the 19th type gonna do, anyway? As a move, will it be super effective against all types? As a mon, will it take half damage from all types, and have stab on all moves? Will that be it? Did I miss something? or will it be something totally different?

      legend plate effect probably

The only thing we actually saw it do, on the image of Baxcalibur Terastalizing into that type, was instead of Dragon, Ice, or whatever other Tera type it could have had, all were given the Tera Type shining panel boost. How much? Can’t tell. What it did not do, was change the effectiveness of the moves being used.

User changes type each turn to match the move it uses
      >that's just Protean/Libero!
Yep, and they nerfed those abilities for that exact reason. My guess is Terapagos will get a signature move that functions like Judgement and the Legend Plate like

      legend plate effect probably

suggested, which will set it apart from any other mon with the 19th Tera Type (since we already know other mons will be able to utilize it).
