FEAR 2 isn't bad, but it doesn't have the stuff that fans liked most about the original, such as the dynamic lighting/shadowing from muzzle flashes and most light sources, over-the-top particle effects and bullet holes, and arenas that show off the AI well. I'm sure under the hood it's a technically superior engine but it felt like a downgrade. I agree about the variety though. It's not a bad game. Also it has a lot of gore if you like blowing off enemies heads and whatnot.

I remember people HATING the HUD in Fear 2 when it came out and making fun of the fact you pick up and wear a pair of tacticool glasses to justify it in-game. Now that seems like a quaint and minor complaint compared to today's bullshit.

Post a clip of FEAR 1 gun animations if you dare. For a game that has so much emphasis on shooting, FEAR 1 has poor models and animations. It barely has animations at all. Games 5 years earlier did it better. This is one area where FEAR 2 unquestionably wins.

I give it some mercy because of the body awareness and accurate shadows, but they're far from impressive.

FEAR is from 2005, not every game at that time had animations as good as Half life 2.
Perhaps I have exaggerated with the animation thing, but guns feel so much better to shoot than FEAR 2, the noise and effects alone surpass the second game, and somehow it feels good to ahoot them with those stiff animations.

I've never played FEAR in my life until last year, I've only ever heard of it, just like many older games I've been playing lately.
FEAR 1 is better, much better, than FEAR 2 and 3, despite its flaws with characters and storytelling.

dude Unreal Tournament 99 has better animations and models than Fear 1. Fear's were significantly below the average FPS quality of the time. It's a good game but it's okay to point out things about it that aren't so hot, yes even for 2005.
