Everyone gets addicted to open world bullshit that bores me to death, but every single time I get addicted to some oine game it's always one with the simplest gimmick.
F-Zero 99's concept is so simplistically dumb that it flips around to being absolute genius. It's you, 98 other people and a race track. No disrespect, no teabagging, no post race shitposting PMs. If you're bad, you lose and if ypu're modest, it's easy to just be satisfied with the modest results you get. I happy if I can at least get top 25. One step at a time.
My mindset. So far I was able to finish a Grand Prix in 7th place and I clutched a 2nd place in F-Zero 99 mode because of one dumb choke at the very end which allowed the Black person behidn me to pass me right at the finish line and even though my impatient ass struggle to finish races because I crash at least 80% of the time, my mindset is if I was able to touch it, I can get it.
I ranked top 10 in a grand prix and touched the 1st place. So I'll keep going until I do.
I think I am ass at the game because of the fact that I crash so often, but when I finish a race, 7 times out 10 I am in the top 25 and out of those 10 times, I am top 10 at least 3 times. Consistency is always my problem in every competitive game.

Placing first nearly always requires you to make at most, one mistake. One red bumper and you can maybe still take first.
I have made peace with the fact that I will never win. It simply is not part of my fate.
Lots of people are complaining about no matchmaking via skill, and rightfully so. But for all of you still struggling for wins, try doing 99s during Pro Track rotation because all the high skilled players congregate there, and avoid 99s during Team Battle rotations.
Please tell me again why everyone hates on Golden Fox when it's easily the biggest glass canon of the roster?

From my experience, there doesn't seem to be a superior machine. Everything seems contextual in this game and machines seems to fit player archetypes more than they seem to fit on a classic tier list. So far I've played extensively with all the machines and I constantly go back to Golden Fox and that machine doesn't shine in any other places than Mute City 1 and Death Wind 1 so far. Every other tracks I see my energy bar getting depleted in seconds if I ever end up in the bully zone and I have to play out of my ass to be able to clutch a top 10 position.
And before you throw some bullshit projections at me. I always pick the hardest tracks because that's specifically on those tracks that Golden Fox struggles the most and I need practice. Why does everyone pick Death Wind 1 over Sand Canyon every single time? Easy win or not, Death wind 1 is just fricking BOOOORING AS FRICK!

Anybody who thinks Golden Fox is EZMODE free wins has clearly never played it. On literally ANY map that isn't Mute City, you will NEVER get your full gauge back, because only Mute City has long pits. On every other map in the game, you are constantly whittling your health away lap by lap and if you frick up even once it's almost guaranteed to over. You will not have enough energy to do your boosts, and you'll get overtaken quickly, by which point you're just subsumed by the crowd and have to tough it out, because now you're chipped even further and you're not going to ever be able to pull away to the lead again.

because it absolutely fricking isn't? Stingray has a harder time staying alive, Fox's recovery makes it the tankiest car

Uh-huh. Sure. Not saying Fox requires no skill or anything, but let's at least be honest about its capabilities.
The average joe likes to blame their failure to win on whatever is seen as the most meta so you can ignore the whiny posts entirely.
That being said I would say Fox isn't that hard to use. It has a bit of a barrier of entry, learning how to deal with its lower grip, but once that's out of the way it's a much easier frontrunner than stingray and can afford to make more mistakes than it. Stingray has more "max potential" but fox is a lot more stable and consistent.
I got 3rd Place for the first-time after playing super clutch with Ray on White Land I because I wanted to get top 25 on the leaderboard to get a unlock. It felt really good.

They’re not going to remake either, especially GX, it’s either a new sequel with a bent towards online or nothing. I think a new entry would basically be X mixed with climax and 99 mechanics. GX trannies will hate it.

Large roster would imply there are meaningful unlocks to work towards. Nintendo already stretched it thin with just 4 machines. Casuals play Mario kart in droves and they have always been attached to particular characters/machines as well.
Blue Falcon is average at everything which sucks
Wild Goose is a noob trap that just sucks

I don't really like this game. It really feels like pure luck determines the outcome. F-zero stages were not made to have this many people racing on them at one time.
i've gotten a 1st place in both the blue falcon and the wild goose. the blue falcon happened on like my 3rd ever race so i was still pretty low rank. the wild goose was a lot harder to get the win on since i had ranked up a lot by then it seems.
I've gotten to 10 a couple times but top 3 still eludes me.

Turns out F-Zero being dead was a blessing in disguise.
I have two goose wins, one on Mute City I and one on Port Town I. Haven't won a Prix yet, closest I've came is second on Knight.
I can get 2-5 places but if I managed to be 1st I fumble it and either explode or drop back to 20th.
Never played any F-Zero growing up but I'm really enjoying this game. It's made me hope that Nintendo gives the series an actual revival
