Either way, F-zero racing let's a lot slide. But cheating isnt one of em. There is a certain honor and gentlemen's agreement amongst...most of the racers.
it worked back then because it was local mp only and no one cared back then if you just used a certain build for instawin, but now that you are against 99 people, balancing stuff was a priority or else instead of crying about lack of cars, you will be crying about >BLACK BULL TO OP WHY THE FRICK CAN NINTENDO BALNCE THEIR STUFF FRICK THEM
Look i fricking hate their whole content drip system, but the game is fun and fair as it is, give it time, however there is always the chance that as soon as they add another vehicle, it will be too OP compared to the rest and further updates will just frick it up more.
It'd be pretty based if they added unlockable vehicles that have intentionally worse stats as a challenge for veterans
Or for even more fun playable bumpers
This. The incentive is fun. Not grinding. I play a few races every day and I have a blast every time
>Play on Mute City / Big Blue over and over so you get enough tickets to play the same grand prix 🙂
It's nauseatingly repetitive and everyone is a shitter who always votes for the easy courses.
>Team battle where you also just play on mute city / big blue (maybe death wind if you're lucky) >Expert tracks which are only there once every 30 minutes or so
Frick off, it gets old. I hate their moronic drip feed model.
F-Zero 99 has so much randomness in it that no two races are the same and even top ranked folks can crash out. So the tracks are window dressing more than anything.

>the tracks are window dressing more than anything
Disgusting. This is the type of gay who loves this game huh?
Well I like it. >cool visual effects >more involved control due to the winds
I play as Wild Goose and it's a blast despite having very little handle on the machine.
The true reward is the laughs along the way and the massive erections I get from winning.
And I'm not good enough to win even semi-consistently so that high never loses it's luster.
i wish you got more level up rewards, like maybe extra tickets, decals, or some colors. there's no fricking point to leveling up outside of some achievements
Shut the frick up zoomer homosexual, PLAYING THE GAME IS FUN. THE POINT IS TO TRY AND WIN THAT'S WHATS FUN. NEEDING "REWARDS" OTHER THAN WINNING IS FRICKING GAY.
It's literally a BR version of a SNES game with new mechanics, where there wasn't even really an "ending", just being the best. Heck, clearing the Master cup of the original is just the game praising you directly from the developers. This isn't meant to be some long-lasting infinite reward slop, and a number of the rewards are all about just playing a bunch or specific challenges anyway. With more cups in the leaderboards and a number of tracks in the Practice menu that you can't encounter anywhere, there's content on the way but this shit came out like several days ago.
You're too addicted to GaaS to need "new stimulation" constantly.
Oh really? I haven't played it because I'm playing the pokemon DLC and Joy Mech Fight but I figured it was all the drivers from F-Zero SNES
Technically BS f-zero added 4 more, but that was only in japan. I mean, how hard could it be to draw a few new sprites nowadays? There is like 40+ designs for racers we already have.
And for reference's sake, compare the F-Zero SNES sprites to the F-Zero BS. Someone in an earlier thread said they look like renders rather than drawn sprites which I think might be true.

very likely the case, the stat images for the machines look prerendered

I can't be the only one who thinks the Fire Scorpion's final design looks ugly, right? That spoiler makes it look like a shoe. They should've just kept it like pic related.

I think they all look kind of weird, but would welcome them anyway. Maybe polish them up a little at least.
I'll take what I can get but the switch fanatics who say it's amazing and anyone who's disappointed it's not a (G)X sequel is a fake fan, etc. need to all be rounded up and executed.
>anyone who's disappointed it's not a (G)X sequel is a fake fan
what the frick are you talking about? we haven't had a fricking 3d f zero in 20 years. and there was only ever 2 of them as opposed to the 7 billion 2D ones. I think a 3D F-Zero is well over due.
I dunno about anyone else, but I'm not as excited for this game itself as much as what this game means for the future of the series. I seriously can't wait to see how they're going to incorporate these elements into a fully developed game. Meanwhile the base mechanics are very fun and entertaining with all the random bullshit that's going on all the time. It's exactly what the series needed to keep things innovative and fresh.
>I seriously can't wait to see how they're going to incorporate these elements into a fully developed game
... you do realize there isn't going to be a fully developed game right?
Maybe not, but they'd be stupid to not capitalize on this sudden burst of popularity especially when their main excuse of not making a new game was that they couldn't figure out what new things they could actually do with the series. Well, they got the perfect blueprint right here.
If there were a time to release a new F-Zero game it'd probably be in the Switch 2's launch window before the next Mario Kart is able to come out, but who knows.
>when their main excuse of not making a new game was that they couldn't figure out what new things they could actually do with the series.
I think that's largely a bullshit excuse. The real problem is that Nintendo has some overlap among their IPs and I think they don't want one series to cannibalize sales from another. The real reason we don't get new F-Zero games is that they already have a first party racing title (Mario Kart) and it has now been the top selling game across two separate consoles at this point. There's just no incentive to make a new F-Zero game that could risk splitting the fan base and damaging what is literally their top selling game. It's the same reason, I believe, that we don't see more Donkey Kong titles (don't want to pull sales from Mario). Sure, they'll throw us a bone every few years just to keep the IP "alive", but that's about it.
I suspect it's a little of Column A and a little of Column B. Nintendo's design philosophy puts "innovation" up on a pedastal, even if those innovations are rarely the actual driving force of the gameplay. So I believe it when Miyamoto says "Well, we just don't want to make another F-Zero without something to make it stand out from what came before". Even though it's a stupid stance.
There's a lot of factors, but I think it really all boils down to sales where the first game sold a ton, but none of the other games were able to match it so they figured the interest wasn't there despite the passionate fans. Meanwhile other series had games that were constantly breaking sales records.
>They'll be starting on Mario Kart 9 sometime in the near future
I'm pretty sure they're already working on that. They usually start working on the next game in the series as soon as they finish the previous one.

I wish that was true so that we didn't have to put up with this creatively bankrupt abortion of a series for 20 years. See also "Paper Mario"

"innnovation" just means a new gimmick, not actual innovation
9 months ago

That's why I put "innovation" in quotes. Miyamoto would qualify a new power-up as innovation for the Mario series.
Even TOTK's sole "innovation" over BOTW is just the build mechanic, but it's enough to get it over this arbitrary threshold that satisfies the company philosophy. Nintendo claims they ran out of ideas to take F-Zero following GX and, considering they had to outsource the series to even make GX in the first place, I'm inclined to believe them. The concern over possibly cannibalising Mario Kart is a different - but equally relevant! - concern.

I mean as shitty as the graphics were, they were sporadically released and had good level design.

The reason innovation matters for something like F-Zero but doesn't for Mario is because just doing the same thing for F-Zero is already proven to not work.
I dunno, I found f-zero games boring as shit, as with most racing games, but I'm having lots of fun with this one because of how hard it is to actually win
FRICK THIS GAME FINALLY GET INTO FIRST AND THEN LOSE IT BECAUSE OF SOME homosexual AND HIS HOMOSEXUAL STAR ROAD WHICH I CAN'T HAVE ACCESS TOO BECAUSE I WAS IN THE LEAD MOST OF THE FRICKING RACE FRICK THIS FRICKING GAME >20 HOURS >0 WINS
FRICK THIS GAME
I’ve been loving these f-zero 99 threads, in these ones we are actually talking about the game, showing gameplay clips, finding each other online, gameplay tips, a bit of joking around, this is some great stuff, thank you f-zero 99
slopposters are obsessed with major releases and from software so some frickin free eshop game isn't going to get their attention. there's a schitzo in armored core threads that doesn't even own the game complaining about weapon balance
If there's ever a day in the future where a GX remake or new entry is announced you better believe that Nintendo is killing this game so they don't have a weird situation where F-Zero is competing with itself; especially if they're trying to sell the online aspect of a hypothetical new game.
Until then, it should be fine.
Depends on activity from the general public. If it's frequented enough, it should last a good couple or few good years as Tetris has. If not, about a year, maybe another half like PAC-MAN. There's no designated time limit like Mario, nor a third-party developer AND license like PAC-MAN, so if people keep playing we should be alright.
>Want to get in some practice for the knight circuts maps with other racers >Everyone wants to fricking do Deadly wind over the Sands for the 400th fricking time.
Yeah okay, fine I didn't want to play that shitty map anyway. It's all fricking good in the hood.
>death wind is golden fox over Sand ocean
Sand Ocean is Golden Fox's best course though. If one get's ahead in sand ocean no one is going to catch up to them.
Stingray is just as good at running away with Sand Ocean. Death Wind is pure free wins for fox.
>Death Wind is pure free wins for fox.
What am I missing? How does the slowest racer in the game with the best acceleration benefit from a simple oval map with long straightaways? Seems like a prime Stingray/Goose map to me
It's the easiest map in terms of danger of crashing, so Fox can take full advantage of the 3 boosts worth of energy it gets every lap from the pit zone unlike every other car only getting 1 boost worth of energy, and there are also like 4 boost arrows on the ground so you can practically boost nonstop around the map. And top speed isn't really an issue when every car has the same boost speed.
Falcon, though the honestly almost everything is well balanced. If you're confident you won't hit any walls, Stingray is super strong. But you lose speed fast on hits and are slow to get it back. If you can drive without hitting walls or bumpers, it's easily the strongest. But you have to not hit walls or bumpers, ever. Gold Fox can be amazing in GP when you get a couple KO's, but if you don't you're shit out of luck. Goose is similar to Fox where you need KO's, but you trade acceleration for tankiness. I don't know if Goose bounces less from wall slams, either.
To be honest, if they do make a from the ground up new F-Zero game. I think it will be a soft reboot of X. GX is cool and all but Nintendo would most likely want to take it in a 100% Nintendo direction. Know what I mean?
It almost feels inevitable that a ground-up F-Zero would end up easier to play as to not immediately scare away casuals. Can you imagine the drops you would see if newbies got a whiff of stuff like slamming your car on the railing to get more speed?
It would most certainly be easier and more forgiving but I am sure it will still give a sense of speed. If people wanted to really test their skills. I am sure they would ramp that sucker up in secret difficulties or something.
No doubt about it. GX is a great game, but it just wasn't the success that Nintendo was looking for in the franchise which is why they were going crazy with the show and the GBA games trying to fix it, but nothing worked. There's some really good ideas in F-Zero 99 that take the formula in a new direction while still remaining faithful to the spirit of the series.
I WILL be playing this game obsessively for the next 3 days, make shitpost threads daily on Ganker claiming it as a victory over microsoft and sony, burn myself out on it then never play it again in my life
Most of the F-Zero cast look like either superheroes or pro wrestlers. AX racers and Legends racers are where they change though.
It's both enjoyably dumb and understandable in canon since most machines take a crazy amount of effort to pilot.
>Having a good day at Mute City >Cant watch the current race live but you can hear em speeding along >Suddenly the track seems to be getting closer... >Ah frick...the antigravity for the course failed >Maybe today wasnt a good day after all...
Why the hell can’t I toggle my mini map on? It’s turned on in the settings but it won’t come up when I press the button ingame. I’m using the SNES Online controller so I don’t know that’s the issue here..
Some F-Zero fans actually did a mock redub of the final episode of the anime, reimagined as if it'd been a Toonami show as opposed to a 4Kids show. They called it "F-Zero: Overdrive" and it turned out pretty well, on the whole. What could've been.
desu. i think its fair to assume that scene is what people will remember the most out of the anime, specially considering how it didnt ever aired in the states. (4kids in their infinite wisdom, cut A LOT of the show).
That scene in the finale was only ever known about because it was considered a Smash meme: everyone thought the giant ball of light was an explosion from Falcon's signature Falcon Punch doing some DBZ shit, when it was really the villain's doomsday weapon exploding. Hell, the English dub never even made it that far before being cancelled, so it was all down to a YouTube clip.
the saddest thing is that not only, as far as i have heard, Falcon never used his smash moves in the anime outside that scene, but that people at the time would never cared about WHY does falcon actually have those moves and fighting style (being literally inspired by Kamen Rider)
Some stuff is ok but most the anime is pretty mediocre dogshit.
People like Goroh were done well, there was also one scene of McCloud training the racers by shooting at them while they race.
IM DONE! THREE times I get to the last lap in the mini Prix and something happens where I either blow up or need to go do something. This last go around I had no health left from boosting, but the finish line was right there (literal centimeters away) and someone bumps me and blows me the frick up. That shit is worse than Mario Kart blue shell garbage.
I literally blow up on Mutr City 9/10 GP races. Meanwhile I get top 5 or win any other time. I'm genuinely more angry than I have evsr been at a game. I am just so frickin pissed. I don't know how it happens, a fricking bomb car hits me EVERY. FRICKING. TIME. right at the tail end of the race. Always. I can't escape. I'm so fricking upset, I don't know what to do. I feel like I want to kill myself. Why can't I just keep retrying GP? Why do I have to farm tickets and wait? It won't matter, Nintendo, I won't win anyway, just let me play the fricking GP as much as I want. Holy FRICK I'm pissed. S-, 20+ 1st, can't even fricking finish Mute City during a GP. I hate myself.
I try to, but I always get to the last lap and the f-zero part of my brain tells me YEAH THE FINAL LAP, and I can't help but try to steal that one extra place. I feel like I fricked up any time I finish less than 1st while having more than red health. I just don't understand why it works outside GP but suddenly it doesn't during the LIMITED TIME ONRY NEED TICKETS OR YOU DON'T EVEN GET TO PRAY GAME grand prix. I flub and hit bumpers every gime I am ahead i GP as well. I just want to fricking die.
Not gonna lie, I kinda wish this game had like a pilot portrait or something for winning a grand prix or maybe a sub-menu that gave a brief bio. As it stands, you'd never even know these cars had pilots with names.
i guess the idea is that the 4 pilots dont exist and the ones piloting the machines are the player.
this is also why the machines have all those decal and color palette options, to drive the point these arent the machines used by the OG 4 pilots, but by the players.
finish a race with the minimum placement needed to clear it so for example if the Safe rank is 20 you need to finish 20th place. The safe rank updates each time you cross the lap
>Missed first by 12 points in the GP
man if i hadn't choked on Death Wind i could've finally won one, and with Blue Falcon too. still my first time getting 2nd. Highest rank before now was 4th.
I wonder if they'll expand the "F-Zero 99" track pool when they add Queen/King's cup. i feel like most of those tracks will go into the "Pro tracks" pool, but considering how many of the rewards want you to play the basic mode a ton it's pretty dull just having the first 4 tracks from Knight cup.
Protip: As Golden Fox, do NOT be afraid to decelerate on the pit pad to get more energy when you need it. You live and die by your energy meter, taking a little time to get more boost can make a lot of difference. Especially when you accelerate back up to top speed so quickly anyways.
Thank you to whoever suggested Team Battle to get the 10 completions without crashing out, worked great and now I'm back to winning or exploding like is meant to be.
>Get 13th, 5th, 2nd, 6th, and 2nd in GP >Get first place overall because the good people blew up in the second and third race
My first GP win, I'm so happy bros. I was 4 points ahead of the guy in in 2nd place standing for the last race on Silence, meaning I couldn't be more than 2 places behind him. I came second, he came 11th.
You'll get there someday, Anon. If you can consistently place in the top 10, you'll get one eventually, statistically speaking. Consistency is super important. The only reason I won was because as I said, the good people blew up in the 2nd and 3rd race. You have to be aggressive with your boosts in order to place in the top 10. Sometimes it works, sometimes you boost into a bomb car and your GP tour ends there. But if you never boost, you'll never get first place. Think about it.
>Sand Ocean >steady top 10 during the last laps >people pass me which allow me to gather just enough energy for a Skypath >takes me all the way to 1st and right before the finish line >hit a red bumper >2nd
I swear those things spawn on full barricades. Also, I forgot where I activated it, I really need to take note on the best places to use Skypath to maximize the time on it, I at least know that Mute City is a little bit after the ramp and Port Town II is just before the magnets.
I'm no longer going to pilot the Blue Falcon. I'm tired of not being able to hold a lead without boost. I'm tired of getting punished by grazing a barrier, losing all my speed and then getting torn apart by everyone behind me. I'm going to pick a top tier.
you either slip and slide and die to a sneeze for fast accel, live to kill but never to win as a hockey puck, or try to be a speedyboi that's gonna be bouncing all over the fricking place
>trying to do the safe rank challenge >every fricking time on the final lap the number of drivers go from mid 80 to mid 70s
CAN YOU FRICKING homosexualS STOP BEING SO BAD AT THE GAME SO I CAN PRETEND TO BE BAD AT THE GAME?
>champion racer who loved the sport so much that he arranged for a shady megacorp's team of necromancer-cyberneticists to resurrect him so he can keep racing even in undeath >his machine is driven and powered by black magic fueled by fan excitement >actually a fairly nice guy who genuinely loves racing and his fans
>decals actually change the details on the machines to a notable and surprisingly detailed degree
Okay, there's a difference between drawing on top of something and spriting something from scratch, but these new artists got talent.
How should I play Blue Falcon? Golden Fox is about boosting a ton, Fire Stingray is about praying to god you get ahead of everyone else early on, and Wild Goose is just for playing like an aggressive maniac. Where’s Blue Falcon fall on that? Just drive normally?
I think Blue Falcon plays a lot like Golden Fox, pretty sure it heals faster than the other two even if it's nowhere near Fox's level. Still i think you get more boosts out of it than the other two.
Depends how good you are at racing. If you can consistently place top 10, the normal 99 mode with you give approximately 0.5 ticket per race, or 1 picket per 2 races. The rotating pro courses will give you approximately 0.65-ish tickets per race. So, essentially, 6-7 races should give you enough tickets to enter a GP, with each race being roughly 3 minutes total (each race takes about 2 minutes, with that extra time being players loading in and the map loading, etc).
I'll let you in a pro strat. If you're in the middle of a pack, don't spin attack or boost, only strafe/drift. Spin attacking bounces both you and the person(s) you hit in opposite directions. So if you spin attack and hit someone ahead of you, your speed will decrease because you're sort of bouncing backwards (but not exactly). However, if you spin attack someone behind you, it'll push you forward. So if you're in the middle of a pack, just ride it out. Let people spin attack you from behind because it'll just push you further. Try as hard as you can to only use spin attacks to either get KOs (players or grey bumpers), or to push a single person into a wall while you're rounding a corner.
also spin while boosting to force your way through crowds effectively. The boost speed negatives any negative pushback you create. Crucial technique for pinball cars like golden fox.
Red bumpers are 100% skill, the only time luck comes into play is if you use the skyway you might get unlucky and land on some. Blue bumpers are the only place where luck gets involved.
Is there a pattern to their movement or something? Do they not cross paths if there are two of them meaning you can split down the middle? I get scared.

Anonymous
The npc bumpers literally just move on a line, like a train on a rail. Unless one of them gets knocked off-course there is ALWAYS enough space to squeeze between two of them, or between one and the course edge.
>everyone freaks out about the S turn on silence >just crash and boost through it every time putting me in first >the turn after it is actually the hardest turn on the map since you're going in at full boost speed.
So how are you supposed to play Wild Goose? I don't like Golden Fox or Fire Stingray, Goose and Blue Falcon feel right. I understand Blue Falcon falling behind but Goose is strange to me because I see people getting top 5 spots with this machine pretty often. What are they doing to keep that lead?
>this behavior is factually different from the original game

Yes I'm sure actually, which is why they have to line up in an unnatural way in the clip you've sent.

actually i lined that up in an unnatural way because i'm too shit at the original to actually make that jump and i didn't feel like practicing just to prove a point. either way the fact is that the thing will grab you if you go too far forward, which is no different than in 99.
It can be really annoying to get a KO to count, but I've found that the best shot is keeping your eyes peeled right near the end of a lap, since many people (particularly Gold Foxes) push their meter to the limit right before pits.
If you're ballsy enough to boost over and spin their greedy ass into the bumpers you can bag yourself an easy KO and a full tank of gas to secure yourself a top spot.
>I will say F-Zero feels less like shit when you lose.
The game let's you ruin other peoples' fun with the bumper car mini-game if you crash so that's pretty entertaining.
It's actually faster than following the main course, especially if you hug the edge just enough that you ride that smooth line between the rough patch and energy barrier.
>Play Wild Goose on 99 Big Blue race >Rack up 4 KO's, two which were accidental >Come in second place >Every single one of my rivals places in the top 4 >They were all driving the goose
This hockey puck just gets free KO's on Big Blue holy frick.
I'd like them to add new types of course obstacles if they're adding new tracks.
Stuff like fans that turn on and off periodically and have two side by side paths with them alternating.
Or obstacles that only show themselves in later laps.
Yes. You slow down but so does everyone else, and the ones who don't get tossed around like a pinball. If you're concerned about losing speed, you can quickly tap the acceleration button so you don't lose as much.
Yes, but every machine is different. Fire Stingray clings to the track like a face hugger so you can rapidly mash the B button, while Golden Fox slides around like an elephant on roller skates so you can't do it as much.
Now that I got my first win I just go for KOs and enjoy it. Tip: Don't use super boost at the end of a lap, and save your spin for smoking cars at the end of a lap
blue falcon gays give me some tips. i have 0 grand prix finishes with it. so far what I've gathered is >can be aggressive with throttle fluttering because it's acceleration is pretty good, also necessary because the grip isn't great >can boost quite a bit, blue falcon's use of boost might be more for recovering from corners or something more technical like always having a boost in the tank to spin boost a bounty >don't frick up lmao you don't have a high top speed payoff and get the 2nd worst benefit from skyways >feels like it thrives in technical courses where stingrays actually have to be good to corner
F-ZERO racers are all about speed, but did you know it's also possible to hit the breaks? Pressing the breaks works as you think it would, slowing down your machine so that you can focus on correcting your steering or adjusting your position more smoothly. A racer being bounced between the walls of the track will have a better chance to survive after such a correction!
There are a few other tricks braking can help with as well! Did you know that slowing down as you cross the recovery strip nets more power than if you speed through it? It's almost like a pit stop! Just make sure you keep moving.
Speaking of stops, putting yourself directly in front of other racers can help you get a little push forward while also slowing down their current speed! Clever use of the brakes can even help cause a machine limping along the course to crash out by careening into you!
Whoops, looks like that's all the time we have for today. See you next time!!
i swear to fricking god there's a perfect line on the last turn of silence where you can just drift through the majority of the corner if not all of it but i JUST CAN'T FIND IT
I have tried for 3 straight hours to get my first win. Every car. Every stage. Failure after failure. I'm looking for any sign that I have any skill at all... It isn't there.
Is it worth getting Switch Online, anons? Should I go for the Expansion Pack as well? Neither option is ridiculously expensive, so money isn't an issue, but I just want to get some other opinions on it first.
This thread seems as good a place to ask as any. You F Zero guys seem to having a nice time with it
Unless you really want N64 and Genesis VC as well as MK8 Deluxe season pass I would recommend getting just standard since it's cheaper and you can still play the NSO exclusives like F-Zero 99 and Tetris 99
I was kinda tempted by the N64 stuff, but I'm not sure how often I'd actually play it. I've heard they control pretty shit unless you get the replica controller. And then with the GBA stuff, I can just emulate any games I want there on my 3DS
I already got the Mario Kart DLC when it first came out, anyways. Better than temporarily "owning" it through something like this.
What other games do you like to play? I only tolerate it because I love Splatoon, so these are just bonuses for me. I guess I should've said that it's not about money, but rather how much value do you think it has for you.
That's the main question. I don't tend to play too much in the way of games with online multiplayer. But I like the idea of Tetris 99 and F-Zero 99, plus Virtual Console stuff is always nice to have (even if I can already use my 3DS for that stuff). And having access to the game vouchers they offer for Online users might come in handy, considering how fricking extortionate Nintendo is when it comes to their games.
>I've heard they control pretty shit unless you get the replica controller.
That's because the games are emulated. I have the same problem with playing F-Zero X on Project 64.
Makes sense, can't trust Nintendo to emulate things right
Can you still buy a physical copy of Tetris 99 and get a code for one year of NSO in the case?
You can, but it's cheaper for me to just get the standard Online
Remember you can use gold points to get it cheaper if you have any

its outdated but observe how he turns when he lets go of the throttle. there's times when he just uses throttle control to turn and other times a combination of cutting the throttle and drifting. look how aggressively he cuts lines, blue falcon doesn't do outside in lines it can ride the edge and dive. the falcon has enough body to eat walls for better lines and enough acceleration to recover quickly from it.
The other guy wasnt me. Here are my real tips for winning your first 99, in order of importance >1. Practice mode for Mute City and Big Blue. Know EXACTLY which turns you need to lean on, which turns you need to flutter the gas on while you lean, when to flutter or let go, etc. If you're lazy, watch someone else do it and copy them >2. Know and commit to your boost spots. Ties into number 1, but do not boost elsewhere, even when behind. The only exception is when you can boost to guarantee a kill. Point is, we're aiming for consistency early on >3. Be lucky. Blue Falcon is a bit of a shitbox, and if there are highly skilled Stingray players in your race, you have low odds of winning, unless they crash out. Stingrays and Foxes with sub 20 wins frequently will in my experience
And a bonus to all of this, don't give up. One of my wins came while I started in 30th or so on the last lap. If you have a good strategy and get skyway at the right time, you can make big comebacks.
Retro racers are fun, especially when there's a PVP aspect such as KOing other drivers plus risk vs reward with boosts in this version compared to the SNES original.
It is strangely addictive. Just all the mechanics working in perfect harmony makes it hard to put down. Kind of hard to believe it's an NSO game. I kind of wonder if it started out as a tech demo that was made into something more developed and with the potential for content beyond what was just in the first game it'd be pretty amazing.
Reminder that this was made by the devs who were condemned to nothing but Mario vs Donkey Kong games for over a decade after the Project HAMMER shitshow
Really hoping they could do more stuff like this in the future
>actually get skyway on Silence >takes me around the mines for some reason >keeps going and going despite the meter running out and doesn't stop before the s-bend >delivered into first
what controller are you guys using, would an ethernet connection help me win. PLEASE I NEED A SINGLE FIRST PLACE WIN SOMEONE SPOONFEED ME I REGULARLY GET TOP 10 BUT I JUST CAN'T FINISH IN FIRST. Also if one of you had the username ihatejews I saw you and screenshotted it.
>Thumb grazes the boost button, draining the meter I saved for the final stretch >Am out of power and a smoking mess on open final stretch >Spin needs one more second to recharge >CRASHED OUT by Weeb :3 on Sand Ocean in last lap
You didn't kill me. I killed me.
>only 4 cars
are you serious? lmao 99 people and everybody driving the same fricking cars
it's more balanced that way. Datamines imply more cars to be added later.
Proofs?
>if you cut the jump too short on White Land you get grabbed by the fun police
that's kind of bullshit.
What does that have to do with anything I said?
sorry didn't mean to reply to you at all.
Either way, F-zero racing let's a lot slide. But cheating isnt one of em. There is a certain honor and gentlemen's agreement amongst...most of the racers.
serves you right, cheater
Same for the jump in port town 2.
figuring out how much you can cheat is a skill
>You cheated not only the race, but yourself
>proofs?
>s
Get off this board street shitter
>IT'S ACTUALLY BALANCED AND BETTER THAT WAY
>THEY'RE GONNA ADD MORE THOUGH JUST WAIT
Sad to see what's become of F-Zero fans.
it worked back then because it was local mp only and no one cared back then if you just used a certain build for instawin, but now that you are against 99 people, balancing stuff was a priority or else instead of crying about lack of cars, you will be crying about
>BLACK BULL TO OP WHY THE FRICK CAN NINTENDO BALNCE THEIR STUFF FRICK THEM
Look i fricking hate their whole content drip system, but the game is fun and fair as it is, give it time, however there is always the chance that as soon as they add another vehicle, it will be too OP compared to the rest and further updates will just frick it up more.
It'd be pretty based if they added unlockable vehicles that have intentionally worse stats as a challenge for veterans
Or for even more fun playable bumpers
Nintendo are the kings of content drip.
Just give it time man. More content is obviously planned. Be patient. Get used to the tracks and enjoy what you have.
I'm already over it, bros.
It's the same thing every time and none of the rewards are interesting.
They unironically didn't expect the game to become this popular
I'm the exact opposite. I'm having far more fun with a free-to-play battle royale conversion of a 30 year old game than I should be
zoomer trash.
play it because it's fun.
You have 3 other modes, gay.
>Team battle where you also just play on mute city / big blue (maybe death wind if you're lucky)
>Expert tracks which are only there once every 30 minutes or so
Frick off, it gets old. I hate their moronic drip feed model.
as i said before: you are zoomer trash.
>defending GaaS battle royale slop while accusing people of being zoomers
that's rich
F-Zero 99 has so much randomness in it that no two races are the same and even top ranked folks can crash out. So the tracks are window dressing more than anything.
>the tracks are window dressing more than anything
Disgusting. This is the type of gay who loves this game huh?
I always vote for Death Wind 1. It's the most fun to spin attack on.
Its better than Golden Fox free wins at death wind. Terrible level
Well I like it.
>cool visual effects
>more involved control due to the winds
I play as Wild Goose and it's a blast despite having very little handle on the machine.
Death Wind's music is top tier
The true reward is the laughs along the way and the massive erections I get from winning.
And I'm not good enough to win even semi-consistently so that high never loses it's luster.
Cool so have you won first place yet? Also grand prix is the best mode and should have been the main mode from the start.
i wish you got more level up rewards, like maybe extra tickets, decals, or some colors. there's no fricking point to leveling up outside of some achievements
Level rewards are too sparse, but even losing is fun in this game.
Shut the frick up zoomer homosexual, PLAYING THE GAME IS FUN. THE POINT IS TO TRY AND WIN THAT'S WHATS FUN. NEEDING "REWARDS" OTHER THAN WINNING IS FRICKING GAY.
its almost like they should make it 3d and add a bunch of racers and content.... hmm... they could call it.... f zero... gx... 2...
Please stop trying to make GX fans look like Meleegays, I'm begging you.
can you explain what you mean? I just want a new 3D F-Zero
X you mean. not gx just x
stop being a gambling addict.
James
Oh really? I haven't played it because I'm playing the pokemon DLC and Joy Mech Fight but I figured it was all the drivers from F-Zero SNES
It is, FZ SNES only had four named drivers.
Technically BS f-zero added 4 more, but that was only in japan. I mean, how hard could it be to draw a few new sprites nowadays? There is like 40+ designs for racers we already have.
Would recycling the sprites from the GBA games work?
Different artstyle, these are GP Legend's
>Name is Ryu Suzaku
>Machine's name is literally just his name put into rough English
>B's in everything
what were they thinking?
And for reference's sake, compare the F-Zero SNES sprites to the F-Zero BS. Someone in an earlier thread said they look like renders rather than drawn sprites which I think might be true.
All of the BS machines are ugly.
I think they all look kind of weird, but would welcome them anyway. Maybe polish them up a little at least.
The art-style is different. You'd have to reshade them anyway, may as well just draw new ones.
I got to be honest, It's been so long since I played I forgot. But I also only choose Samurai Goroh in F-Zero regardless
>f-zero fans are so desperate that they're gaslighting themselves into enjoying this FOTM shovelware
you hate to see it
maybe people actually enjoy it because it's fun. you consider that?
>banjo fans were so desperate that they gaslighted themselves into thinking banjo being thrown into smash DLC means anything for their franchise
GUH HUH
>nobody even uses Banjo in smash
beyond sad behavior, Steve chads kept winning.
>you're having fun?
>heh, you're gaslighting yourself
Go to bed, stupid child, you have school tomorrow.
They'll be starting on Mario Kart 9 sometime in the near future, they're not going to see business sense in also doing F-Zero.
Best case scenario you have is them deciding to continue F-Zero 99 as a NSO bonus.
Personally, I just hope it gets carried over to the Switch 2 online service with everyone's progress intact. That'd be swell.
Switch 2 is likely to have backwards compatibility, so I don't see why they wouldn't, unless they sunset F-Zero 99 first.
If there were a time to release a new F-Zero game it'd probably be in the Switch 2's launch window before the next Mario Kart is able to come out, but who knows.
They usually start working on the next game in the series as soon as they finish the previous one.
>when their main excuse of not making a new game was that they couldn't figure out what new things they could actually do with the series.
>Nintendo's design philosophy puts "innovation" up on a pedastal, even if those innovations are rarely the actual driving force of the gameplay. So I believe it when Miyamoto says "Well, we just don't want to make another F-Zero without something to make it stand out from what came before".
I wish that was true so that we didn't have to put up with this creatively bankrupt abortion of a series for 20 years. See also "Paper Mario"
"innnovation" just means a new gimmick, not actual innovation
>No. 12
Alright, which one of you guys was this? And is that the secret to your outracing me MULTIPLE times???
>Berry
where's Berry?
Barry? Where's Barry
Hi drew, that was me, and yes it is. Thanks for the question. Your pal,
dicky-UOH!
had you as a rival in a GP just now, the name made me kek
I just saw you. I fricking exploded in sand town like a pussy.
i can't lose in my fire stingray
you le didn't win
how do you deal with u-turns in sand and silence?
Just let go of accelerate a bit before and be somewhere in the center of the teack
mash the accelerator in sand
brake in silence
What about the red bumper cars blocking the way
honestly on silence i'd just play it safe. Sand Ocean you can usually take the outside of the turn, but i got lucky here.
>game spamming bumpers just to try to stop you from getting 1st
That's so evil.
Look at how big his lead is. Stingray gays deserve it.
That was a lot of red cars.
God damn. I fricking kneel. I like tapping break better for some reason.
that's nice, but is it actually faster than just taking that turn at full speed, slamming into the last wall and then boosting?
>he wo grand prix woth golden fox or stingray
does not fricking count
Do not believe the Pico slander. Pico is good.
Pico killed all the other racers.
They could never prove it. it was black shadow
He certainly fricking killed Mighty Gazelle.
I fricking hate how troonys use my favorite color combo. Fricking HATE IT.
nice troony colors
glad somebody else posted her. I miss that little tint of edge Nintendo had back in the 2000s. This was peak fricking female design for me back then
She was designed by Sega.
>Enter race
>Rival is level 50+ and has 99+ wins
What kind of monsters are these people?
FRICK THIS GAME FINALLY GET INTO FIRST AND THEN LOSE IT BECAUSE OF SOME homosexual AND HIS HOMOSEXUAL STAR ROAD WHICH I CAN'T HAVE ACCESS TOO BECAUSE I WAS IN THE LEAD MOST OF THE FRICKING RACE FRICK THIS FRICKING GAME
>20 HOURS
>0 WINS
FRICK THIS GAME
>skill issue
git gud moron
If you're not having fun even when you lose you're missing the point.
I’ve been loving these f-zero 99 threads, in these ones we are actually talking about the game, showing gameplay clips, finding each other online, gameplay tips, a bit of joking around, this is some great stuff, thank you f-zero 99
Yeah its wholesome. Made an f zero thread early this morning that felt the same way.
slopposters are obsessed with major releases and from software so some frickin free eshop game isn't going to get their attention. there's a schitzo in armored core threads that doesn't even own the game complaining about weapon balance
Realistically what changes does Blue Falcon need to be able to competently and consistently win? Better recovery? Better grip?
Different tracks. I'd personally rather have the Falcon instead of the Stingray on Fire Field, for example.
Give it to me straight, bros.... How long do we have to enjoy this masterpiece before Nintendo pulls the plug?
it will be up half a year but playerbase will die down in 2 months
Probably will last until Switch's sunset at this point.
3 months, 4 days, 8 minutes and 12 seconds, tic tac, the clock is ticking anon
If there's ever a day in the future where a GX remake or new entry is announced you better believe that Nintendo is killing this game so they don't have a weird situation where F-Zero is competing with itself; especially if they're trying to sell the online aspect of a hypothetical new game.
Until then, it should be fine.
Keep playing it and they never will.
>Nintendo owned Tetris 99 still going on
>Mario 35 was outright mentioned to be a temporary thing
>Pacman 99 was Bamco
this will be perm
two more weeks
Is there actually someone getting ranked out for being last off the starting ramp?
>Want to get in some practice for the knight circuts maps with other racers
>Everyone wants to fricking do Deadly wind over the Sands for the 400th fricking time.
Yeah okay, fine I didn't want to play that shitty map anyway. It's all fricking good in the hood.
Death Wind pickers are all golden fox frauds
>death wind is golden fox over Sand ocean
Sand Ocean is Golden Fox's best course though. If one get's ahead in sand ocean no one is going to catch up to them.
Stingray is just as good at running away with Sand Ocean. Death Wind is pure free wins for fox.
>Death Wind is pure free wins for fox.
What am I missing? How does the slowest racer in the game with the best acceleration benefit from a simple oval map with long straightaways? Seems like a prime Stingray/Goose map to me
Littered with boost pads.
It's a short map. Fox loves short maps cause it can boost near non-stop and keep from getting gained on. See: Mute City.
When boosting the wind doesn't affect you in addition to everything else anons have said, so it's super busted.
What’s the most honest car?
Falcon, of course
this
somehow also this.
Blue Falcon
Pico obviously. You kill other racers for free boost. Its honest work.
Whoever suggested tapping throttle around turns, I love you. Works wonders for certain turns, and on sand ocean in particular.
It's a classic tip called blast turning. Glad it still works here. Depends on the car though.
Posting some images for better thread starters.
Did springman give up on his ARMS career after he lost the smash invite to Minmin or something? why is he commentating F-Zero races?
That's Mr. Zero. He's the face of the sport (literally, in the case of X). In GX he even conducts interviews when you win a Grand Prix.
I liked how he had a different set of animations when he was scared shitless over the winner.
GAME IS TOO FRICKING HARD THIS WILL DROP IN PLA?YERS DRASTICALLY IN A WEEK TOPS AND MORE WILL LEAVE AS ONLY AUTISTS REAMAIN AITS ALREADY BAD
Filtered.
>keep sliding left and right to block the golden fox behind me from passing and actually getting the most out of his boost
>take 1st and get A+ rank
GX is a great game and Nintendo cannot top it. Is what you meant to say.
Maybe they'd never top it. So what? We can still have fun F-Zero games that do different things instead of the same stuff over and over.
I WILL be playing this game obsessively for the next 3 days, make shitpost threads daily on Ganker claiming it as a victory over microsoft and sony, burn myself out on it then never play it again in my life
>scored a KO a millisecond from the finish line
I may not have taken first, but the feeling of cucking someone out of a top 5 finish makes up for it
>no race commentary
>no YEAH, THE FINAL LAP
soulless
Mrs Arrow.
Queen Meteor could fill a grip/recovery niche that the other machines don't.
muscle girl
The problem is that you can't add one of the Arrows without also including their spouse. And frankly, I'd rather have more interesting machines.
But yes, muscle girl driver good.
>spoiler
Mrs. Arrow is more muscular than the other girls, but every F-Zero racer is completely jacked. Even the fatasses have 20 inch pythons.
Most of the F-Zero cast look like either superheroes or pro wrestlers. AX racers and Legends racers are where they change though.
It's both enjoyably dumb and understandable in canon since most machines take a crazy amount of effort to pilot.
That was the aesthetic in mind
Burton's Batman was even cited IIRC
>Having a good day at Mute City
>Cant watch the current race live but you can hear em speeding along
>Suddenly the track seems to be getting closer...
>Ah frick...the antigravity for the course failed
>Maybe today wasnt a good day after all...
Fat Shark
Gonna make Wild Goose look like a nerf bat.
FREE ME AAAAAAAAAAAAAA
when can we expect they start unlocking the next cup?
next month maybe?
I think they said before the end of the month?
Queen cup is scheduled for late September, and king cup for mid October. So Likely bi-weekly releases
The schedules are in the game
Why the hell can’t I toggle my mini map on? It’s turned on in the settings but it won’t come up when I press the button ingame. I’m using the SNES Online controller so I don’t know that’s the issue here..
During the race press your equivalent to whatever is the X button. Maybe it's off in settings too
HEY GUYS OCTOMAN HERE JUST WANTED TO WISH EVERYONE A GOOD CLEAN RACE IN TODAY'S F-ZERO TOURNAMENT THANKS FOR LISTENING
FREE TAKORA. DEATH TO THE FEDERATION.
why was the anime so kino
>Kino
>When only one scene is ever talked about
There has to be more, right?
the anime is an honest 5/10 meh, the last episode is great but it's not quite enough of a payoff for the slog you have to go though
It also fricked with a lot of the lore, didnt it?
To the point where it's considered its own continuity.
yeah I can name all the accurate characters on like one hand.
Some F-Zero fans actually did a mock redub of the final episode of the anime, reimagined as if it'd been a Toonami show as opposed to a 4Kids show. They called it "F-Zero: Overdrive" and it turned out pretty well, on the whole. What could've been.
>Tfw worked on this
We have a legend in here!
desu. i think its fair to assume that scene is what people will remember the most out of the anime, specially considering how it didnt ever aired in the states.
Hell, the English dub never even made it that far before being cancelled, so it was all down to a YouTube clip.
yeah but Falcon Punch, tho
the saddest thing is that not only, as far as i have heard, Falcon never used his smash moves in the anime outside that scene, but that people at the time would never cared about WHY does falcon actually have those moves and fighting style (being literally inspired by Kamen Rider)
Yeah, that's the first and only time he did any of his Smash-derived moves in the entire show. At the time it was just a cute little nod.
Some stuff is ok but most the anime is pretty mediocre dogshit.
People like Goroh were done well, there was also one scene of McCloud training the racers by shooting at them while they race.
>went to YouTube to see what's all about
>same graphics of snes
Seriously? I already has my fill back them
Now play the game. It's 2D and 3D and looks amazing. Play on OLED for the best experience
Now to wait 17 minutes for the grand prix.
it's a skill issue. you're too aggressive, and you pay the cost. stop boosting so much and/or learn how to not hit the wall.
Stop boosting so much
how do you avoid those homosexual magnet things on sand track? shit always fricks me up and nothing I try works to avoid them
Hold L/R in the opposite direction
And stay in the center of the track
>in second
>first hits a red bumper
>smoking
>spin attack
>now in first with full boost
I CAN'T LOSE IN MY FIRE STING WAY
If you don't have your first win by the end of tonight, what the frick are you even doing?
Some of us suck at the game anon. Leave us alone
>red bumper crash into rail right at the end in top 5
embarassing
Sand Oceanbros, what's your best practice time? i got 2:07.64 on my first try with stingray, wondering how much i can shave off of that.
>KO 2 opponents in Mute City
>just boost last lap nonstop
I'M DROPPING THE HAMMER
if they added the GX soundtrack into the game I would lose my shit
DO YOU WANT TO DO IT
I wonder if we'll ever see the GX characters again...
Does Sega own them or Nintendo?
That's the question, isn't it.
Nintendo
Don Genie showed up GP Legend and Climax
*in the GP Legend anime and is mentioned in Climax
To tell you the truth there are no universal forces
NYYYYEHEHEHEHEHEHAHAHAHAHOOOO.
Maybe just play it safer anon. It's too 8 pass, you can make it
I try to, but I always get to the last lap and the f-zero part of my brain tells me YEAH THE FINAL LAP, and I can't help but try to steal that one extra place. I just want to fricking die.
is there a list of how each badge/color is after unlocks?
Not gonna lie, I kinda wish this game had like a pilot portrait or something for winning a grand prix or maybe a sub-menu that gave a brief bio. As it stands, you'd never even know these cars had pilots with names.
i guess the idea is that the 4 pilots dont exist and the ones piloting the machines are the player.
this is also why the machines have all those decal and color palette options, to drive the point these arent the machines used by the OG 4 pilots, but by the players.
How do you get the "be the last to qualify with a safe rank"
finish a race with the minimum placement needed to clear it so for example if the Safe rank is 20 you need to finish 20th place. The safe rank updates each time you cross the lap
but i'm not shitty enough to get that
well you better start learning how to be a shit player
I did that, but too many shitty drivers we ended up with 70. I finished 70th and didnt get it.
the safe rank is still 80 so it won't count
>Missed first by 12 points in the GP
man if i hadn't choked on Death Wind i could've finally won one, and with Blue Falcon too. still my first time getting 2nd. Highest rank before now was 4th.
Holy frick this was made just a year ago.
MUTE CITY 99
MUTE CITY 99
MUTE CITY 99
It gets old.
Big Blue vs Any: Big Blue
Mute City vs Any: Mute City
Mute City vs Big Blue: Mute City
Death Wind vs Sand Ocean: Death Wind
Sand Ocean is my favorite. It's a conspiracy.
Some original tracks to fill the easy mode playlist would be nice
Protip: As Golden Fox, do NOT be afraid to decelerate on the pit pad to get more energy when you need it. You live and die by your energy meter, taking a little time to get more boost can make a lot of difference. Especially when you accelerate back up to top speed so quickly anyways.
this is great. Never thought about slowing down to get more energy. Thanks
thanks for reminding fellow golden fox chad
Huh, actually pretty sound advice there. Thanks!
Frick I wondered if that would work, thanks

Thank you to whoever suggested Team Battle to get the 10 completions without crashing out, worked great and now I'm back to winning or exploding like is meant to be.
>Get 13th, 5th, 2nd, 6th, and 2nd in GP
>Get first place overall because the good people blew up in the second and third race
My first GP win, I'm so happy bros. I was 4 points ahead of the guy in in 2nd place standing for the last race on Silence, meaning I couldn't be more than 2 places behind him. I came second, he came 11th.
Congrats, anon. I'll never get one.
Give Blue Falcon slightly higher boost gain off of KOs than other ships. Good or shit idea?
Nah. Ships are unironically perfectly balanced as they are now. They each have clear advantages and disadvantages.
Blue Falcon has literally no advantage right now though.
>Above Average Recovery
>Above Average Acceleration
>Above Average turning
>WOOOOW WHY IS THE ALL ROUNDER NOT THE BEST AT STUFF
anon...
It has no disadvantages, either. That's its whole point. Everything about it is mediocre, but nothing about it is bad.

Honestly those cars pretty much look awful but I'd appreciate getting them anyways just because

So like any of the other cars?
you either slip and slide and die to a sneeze for fast accel, live to kill but never to win as a hockey puck, or try to be a speedyboi that's gonna be bouncing all over the fricking place

what's the safe rank challenge
Do it on Death Wind. By the time only 20 are safe, they should be competent enough that you can reliably drop to 21.

holy frick this was hard
Good job. Now do it again.
Seriously, if you did it once, you can do it again except even better. Once you can do it consistently, you're golden.
just getting sub 1'46 was a fricking bastard, and the cheevo is for 1'56. I think i'm done with practice on this track
what combination of drifting and throttle do i need for the first big white curve
literally just hold left drift, full turn, and mash the accelerator.
Seriously, accelerator mashing is real frickin good for the Stingray's turning.

why? It's my least favorite. Felt bored playing it.
No better feeling than a kill in the first lap of a GP or MGP

Okay, there's a difference between drawing on top of something and spriting something from scratch, but these new artists got talent.
I need to hurry up and get my wins on each vehicle now before the scrubs stop playing and I’m up against 98 other maniacs.
This is precisely why I got a 1st GP with Blue Falcon out of the way early
How should I play Blue Falcon? Golden Fox is about boosting a ton, Fire Stingray is about praying to god you get ahead of everyone else early on, and Wild Goose is just for playing like an aggressive maniac. Where’s Blue Falcon fall on that? Just drive normally?
I think Blue Falcon plays a lot like Golden Fox, pretty sure it heals faster than the other two even if it's nowhere near Fox's level. Still i think you get more boosts out of it than the other two.
Saw a guy with triple digit wins. It just said 99+.
was he Japanese
was it Gray Fox
>tfw raced against Gray Fox in a GP earlier
>lost the GP because of bad mute/blue but took first on Silence
At least I have that to be happy with.
That sounds terrifying to go up against, I haven't even won ONE yet.

Hope you guys have fun with it, but there's no fricking way I'd ever acknowledge a goddamn 2d plane being a step forward for a racing game.
And there's no way I believe Nintendo has the skills to outdo GX if they work on it by themselves.
Ok, go away now.
>MUH GX
You people are insufferable.
Yeah I bet people with taste are insufferable to you.
For a game like F-zero 99 it's integral because if you're behind everyone there'd be no way to get through.
Pico mains where we at?
Move or be moved
what's the point of the Wild Goose here? Does it deal extra damage?
you can drive in reverse
how?
how hard are tickets to earn? i dont want to lock myself out of the knight gp (100% guarantee these cups will not rotate due to FOMO)
Incredibly easy.
>Mute City
>Big Blue
Which do you choose?
Big Blue because the 90 degree turns still filter shitters and make for some easy KOs right before the the pit area
Mute City cause it's EZ 1st for Fox
Big Blue is Fox kryptonite
Jody Summers
Why can't I win? I have a 1:56 on mute city in practice. In game it's like 2:02, and everyone is over 2:00, and 30th place is 2:02:30.
Just let me race.
too bad, you're going to get pinballed around and like it
I either get pinballed, or I break free, and taste first place for 30 seconds until a red bumper ends of my existence.
Mute City is honestly kind of bullshit. It's always a 99 track, too many people congesting the road and stealing placements with the skyway.
Try as hard as you can to only use spin attacks to either get KOs (players or grey bumpers), or to push a single person into a wall while you're rounding a corner.
>just show restraint.
Thanks for the tip. See you in 3 days when I break my habits.
also spin while boosting to force your way through crowds effectively. The boost speed negatives any negative pushback you create. Crucial technique for pinball cars like golden fox.
That's how I break through, but it leaves me with low energy and I get capped by red bumpers eventually.
Is that just my next skill plateau? Dodging red bumpers? Seems luck based.
>Luck based
Nah, you just have to get better at steering and reading where those machines will turn to.
The npc bumpers literally just move on a line, like a train on a rail. Unless one of them gets knocked off-course there is ALWAYS enough space to squeeze between two of them, or between one and the course edge.
>first time getting past death wind in Jack cup

So how are you supposed to play Wild Goose? I don't like Golden Fox or Fire Stingray, Goose and Blue Falcon feel right. I understand Blue Falcon falling behind but Goose is strange to me because I see people getting top 5 spots with this machine pretty often. What are they doing to keep that lead?
Getting a kill fills their boost bar and they mash boost for an entire lap.
Does this game use dedicated servers? It's actually playable
is this a limited time game like Mario 99?
Considering it wasn't announced to be one and Nintendo themselves own all the rights, it's likelier than not that it's permanent
kinda weird you get extra points towards tickets for being #1 S rank when you're the only S rank
Look at this, can you people seriously watch this and tell me this game isn't a complete betrayal of everything that makes F-Zero F-Zero?
UNSANCTIONED SHORT CUT
GET OUT
GO BACK
You know this happens in the original too right
Why do you feel the need to lie on the internet like this?
>He hasn't played the original
lol
Nice deflection, this behavior is factually different from the original game, and you're not fooling anyone by pretending it it.
>this behavior is factually different from the original game
you sure about that homosexual?
?t=20
Yes I'm sure actually, which is why they have to line up in an unnatural way in the clip you've sent.
actually i lined that up in an unnatural way because i'm too shit at the original to actually make that jump and i didn't feel like practicing just to prove a point. either way the fact is that the thing will grab you if you go too far forward, which is no different than in 99.
It's better this way.
🙂 Unironically
Don't you have some boots to lick somewhere else?
F-zero always had invisible checkpoints you can't bypass.

>Haven't one a race yet
>Haven't one at Tetris 99 or Pac-Man
There's no hope for me and Nintendo BR games
Get in early when all the shitters are playing
I've played all three since day one, there's no hope for me, though I will say F-Zero feels less like shit when you lose.
Still trying to figure out how, I can murder fools easy in X and GX but it feels pretty difficult to be aggressive in this
It can be really annoying to get a KO to count, but I've found that the best shot is keeping your eyes peeled right near the end of a lap, since many people (particularly Gold Foxes) push their meter to the limit right before pits.
You need to stop being a pussy and start murdering opponents, it's good for your boost bar
I won Pac-Man on my fourth try because I played CEDX a lot. Tried Tetris so many times and never won once.
>one a
You haven't WON because you're a filthy ESL
AM I SUPPOSED TO BOOST THROUGH THE DIRT ON MUTE CITY WHY IS EVERYONE TAKING A LINE THROUGH IT
Yes moron
It's actually faster than following the main course, especially if you hug the edge just enough that you ride that smooth line between the rough patch and energy barrier.
Jodi Summer can come too but my one pick is him
>Play Wild Goose on 99 Big Blue race
>Rack up 4 KO's, two which were accidental
>Come in second place
>Every single one of my rivals places in the top 4
>They were all driving the goose
This hockey puck just gets free KO's on Big Blue holy frick.

He was always a massive stalling moron, don't let the hype shroud his true nature
Have you never seen footage of him before?
mfw I raced against him today
b***h ass homie
Grand Prixs are too infrequent. Every two hours for only 10 minutes so if you make it far and lose you're not able to try again.
I'd like them to add new types of course obstacles if they're adding new tracks.
Stuff like fans that turn on and off periodically and have two side by side paths with them alternating.
Or obstacles that only show themselves in later laps.
If they do end up adding in the maps from other games like bs, then your wish will be granted. And God have mercy on your soul
>points leader is only 8 ahead heading into Silence
>take first and he takes fourth
>tie for first
it counts
You didn't win
>white land is picked
don't mind me, just collecting my free win.
I didn't lose, either.
Finally got my Blue Falcon win. I was in 1st since lap one and had to dodge so many player bumpers and explosive frickers, but I fricking did it.
Post cards homosexuals
>end of final lap
>watch as last place gets overwhelmed by the bombcars descending in front of him
I feel like a war criminal sending a POW out to check for mines
I wish this was based on X so bad
I just don't find SNES f-zero even comparably as fun as X
Are you supposed to let of of B when doing tight turns?
Yes. You slow down but so does everyone else, and the ones who don't get tossed around like a pinball. If you're concerned about losing speed, you can quickly tap the acceleration button so you don't lose as much.
So tap B instead of completely letting go of it.
For me it's Octoman
He's a good father who just wants to provide for his children while relations with his planet are degrading.
samurai goroh is such a cheap bastard
if you aren't using the blue falcon your wins are forfeit
I can't lose in my Fire Stingray!
Just won my first ever race as fox. Can’t get enough
blue falcon gays give me some tips. i have 0 grand prix finishes with it. so far what I've gathered is
>can be aggressive with throttle fluttering because it's acceleration is pretty good, also necessary because the grip isn't great
>can boost quite a bit, blue falcon's use of boost might be more for recovering from corners or something more technical like always having a boost in the tank to spin boost a bounty
>don't frick up lmao you don't have a high top speed payoff and get the 2nd worst benefit from skyways
>feels like it thrives in technical courses where stingrays actually have to be good to corner
Your only hope is to pick Sand Canyon and hope your opponents are carried stingrays/foxes that suck at driving. Auto quit on death wind.
Hi, I'm that guy who fricking sucks at racing but tries really hard when I'm the lucky bumper!
Yo! Wasn't today's F-Zero 99 thread interesting?!
What is a brake?!
does break mean letting go of B?
HIT Y
did nobody here play the original
But why not just stop pressing B? Does the break button actually matter or can we just ignore it?
so you can slow down quicker at a moment's notice, it's helpful in places like Silence
>first place as blue falcon sub one second over some homosexual stingray with 50+ wins
Frick yeah. Frick that homosexual
what is the point of sliding in f-zero X?
Some cars like blood falcon are insanely fast while boost drifting. Its the best strategy on most courses.
i swear to fricking god there's a perfect line on the last turn of silence where you can just drift through the majority of the corner if not all of it but i JUST CAN'T FIND IT
I have tried for 3 straight hours to get my first win. Every car. Every stage. Failure after failure. I'm looking for any sign that I have any skill at all... It isn't there.
Try practicing the courses if you're that desperate for 1st place.
Is it worth getting Switch Online, anons? Should I go for the Expansion Pack as well? Neither option is ridiculously expensive, so money isn't an issue, but I just want to get some other opinions on it first.
This thread seems as good a place to ask as any. You F Zero guys seem to having a nice time with it
only if you really like tetris
I DO like Tetris
I was kinda tempted by the N64 stuff, but I'm not sure how often I'd actually play it. I've heard they control pretty shit unless you get the replica controller. And then with the GBA stuff, I can just emulate any games I want there on my 3DS
In that case just go with the $20 since the MK8 DLC is only around $25 which is a more reasonable buy-in.
I already got the Mario Kart DLC when it first came out, anyways. Better than temporarily "owning" it through something like this.
Makes sense, can't trust Nintendo to emulate things right
You can, but it's cheaper for me to just get the standard Online
Remember you can use gold points to get it cheaper if you have any
Oh nice, didn't know you could do that!
So I just gotta believe?
>I've heard they control pretty shit unless you get the replica controller.
That's because the games are emulated. I have the same problem with playing F-Zero X on Project 64.
Can you still buy a physical copy of Tetris 99 and get a code for one year of NSO in the case?
Unless you really want N64 and Genesis VC as well as MK8 Deluxe season pass I would recommend getting just standard since it's cheaper and you can still play the NSO exclusives like F-Zero 99 and Tetris 99
What other games do you like to play? I only tolerate it because I love Splatoon, so these are just bonuses for me. I guess I should've said that it's not about money, but rather how much value do you think it has for you.
>You F Zero guys seem to having a nice time with it
Here's the thing, anon: it's not the game, it's the player who makes it fun. Search deep within your heart.
Bio Rex
>tfw when finally figuring out how to win with Blue Falcon
>went from 0 wins over weekend to 4 today
Don't give up lads.
Please tell us
>1. You've got to be strong.
>2. Fight to keep your spirit alive.
>3. Win
Hope that helps.
But what if I feel like there's nothing left to go forward and fight for?
its outdated but observe how he turns when he lets go of the throttle. there's times when he just uses throttle control to turn and other times a combination of cutting the throttle and drifting. look how aggressively he cuts lines, blue falcon doesn't do outside in lines it can ride the edge and dive. the falcon has enough body to eat walls for better lines and enough acceleration to recover quickly from it.
The other guy wasnt me. Here are my real tips for winning your first 99, in order of importance
>1. Practice mode for Mute City and Big Blue. Know EXACTLY which turns you need to lean on, which turns you need to flutter the gas on while you lean, when to flutter or let go, etc. If you're lazy, watch someone else do it and copy them
>2. Know and commit to your boost spots. Ties into number 1, but do not boost elsewhere, even when behind. The only exception is when you can boost to guarantee a kill. Point is, we're aiming for consistency early on
Thank you fellow Falcon.
Please have this FZero comic adaptation as thanks.

>Freeze frame
Yep, that's me. Pop quiz. What do you think happens next? Do I
A. Duck in between the two red bumpers, veer left and drift right tapping the accelerator to make the tight turn and finish top 5?
Or
B. Go wide and drive into the bomb like a little b***h
shoulda gone with A
I can't stop thinking about this game bros, I haven't been this hooked on a game since Quake Live. What the frick!?
Retro racers are fun, especially when there's a PVP aspect such as KOing other drivers plus risk vs reward with boosts in this version compared to the SNES original.
It is strangely addictive. Just all the mechanics working in perfect harmony makes it hard to put down. Kind of hard to believe it's an NSO game. I kind of wonder if it started out as a tech demo that was made into something more developed and with the potential for content beyond what was just in the first game it'd be pretty amazing.
Didn't Tetris 99 see regular updates? If that's the case here too it'd be awesome.
Yeah it got a few updates and the paid DLC. If it's popular enough F-Zero 99 could probably do something similar.
Reminder that this was made by the devs who were condemned to nothing but Mario vs Donkey Kong games for over a decade after the Project HAMMER shitshow
Really hoping they could do more stuff like this in the future
and Prime Hunters too, a port of that game's multiplayer stuff would be fun as hell if they keep doing online stuff
>Metroid Prime Hunters 99

Wild Goose must be really good for grand prix. They're always at least 2 of the top 3 spots from what I see
give me ONE reason to not pick the blue (black after winning a race) falcon
what controller are you guys using, would an ethernet connection help me win. PLEASE I NEED A SINGLE FIRST PLACE WIN SOMEONE SPOONFEED ME I REGULARLY GET TOP 10 BUT I JUST CAN'T FINISH IN FIRST. Also if one of you had the username ihatejews I saw you and screenshotted it.
Pick fire stingray if you dont care about the quality of your "win". Its free
i'm using an 8bitdo m30 but i had to remap a bunch of shit
SNES Online controller. Feels just like it was meant to be played tbh.
