>2nd place after Death Wind in GP >only a few points behind 1st >1st place is S5 99+ >they get the lead and never drop it >crash out boosting in a desperate attempt to get anywhere near them
People who have won a GP should get put in a different fricking pool from the rest of us, I'm going to kill myself Monday morning when I inevitably end the weekend without a win
I stayed up till three in the moring last night to get my first win because of how mad I was that I hadn't got one yet.
Playing Fox well on Mute City, which comes up about 40% of the time, was how I did it. For as much shit as it gets the car is very skill based.
before i got a cheapo usb video capture device i'd just plug my switch into my PC via USB. i think it's system - data management - transfer images and videos to computer
how do you turn to the right fast enough to not hit the wall on the second part of that little S part?
even when braking / letting off the gas and sliding I can never do it without either hitting the wall or going at like 100mph
a bit late but i'm here and will always be. always fun to see people shit on falcon here and saying it's bad when i always get high placed if not fully win despite never having played f-zero before. i think the reason why people are thinking it's bad is because they try to use it while following a very specific meta instead of trying to play good. if used well it can be very great, especially in harder levels (that or i'm more used to playing those).
It's the only machine without any kind of min-maxing going on, which people seem to feel means "no advantages whatsoever". I honestly enjoy how all four machines have shaped up so far and reckon any tweaks made need to be extremely minor. I don't even want anymore machines, just more courses to race on.
>I don't even want anymore machines, just more courses to race on.
i agree, it's getting kinda annoying playing the exact same ones again and again, especially when you simply can't get some of them. i get that Silence would be a mess at 99, but why not include it? or why not include more choices? hopefully it doesn't take too long for the rest, they said end of september iirc and they surely have seen that people like it
It seems hat the Blue Falcon is the case of jack of all trades and master of none. It's a balanced middle-ground vehicle that can do what the other options manage to a degree of competence, but it can't do those things for as long, or as reliably. While this makes it a good general vehicle, it isn't the best vehicle for any particular scenario. Competent racers with one of the other 3 cars will find that a given track suits their advantages, which Falcon doesn't get in normal circumstances. Good as a general choice, but not a choice for winning in the face of competent and better suited competition.
I love Death Wind. I don't know why, but everyone else seems to utterly suck at this track. Meanwhile I keep getting free high placements every time. I got like 3 wins on death wind at this point too.
I tried Goroh for like 5 tracks and one of them was a win on Death Wind.
I love going in circles and hitting boost pads.
>always ranking out in Knight League Death Wind with Goose
Looks like I need to learn to kill people better. This machine's laughably low recovery means that I just can't compete in this track otherwise.
Take Mute City and Big Blue easy and focus on brawling, 1-3 KO's in those does wonders and the kills help claw out a podium spot too. Sand Ocean is a bit more tense but I sometimes get a K.O. just driving normally. Then you've got an edge on Death Wind, lap 3 & 4 are where it's at when people start smoking, being able to afford to boost there is an easy top 10 position at least, although often some autist is already miles ahead of the pack.
Because the intro gives an unfair advantage to those who start on the far left of the track. They have the benefit of moving with the wind to take the optimal route.
>Because the intro gives an unfair advantage to those who start on the far left of the track
when i started in dead last i was one of the last cars if not the last car on the left. i needed that shit to survive
>take 1st place on silence quick because I was grinding my lap 1 tactics >drop it quickly because I'm not consistent enough to do every turn properly >start grinding silence trials again >half the time i can't go 4/4 laps without blunders like missing the ramp or fricking up the turns because I keep experimenting with lines I want to work but won't >spend an hour straight grinding trials instead of my weekend assignment of grinding sections of a song >consider taking a """break""" by grinding sections of a shoot em up
my life now is just repeating 40 second loops while going insane
yes. braking is primarily used as a tool to turn while boosting. why would you want to boost midturn? because you wanted a boost to finish earlier. for example in the last turn of silence if you boost right soon after the corner you can make it end right before the repair strip instead of using any boost speed on the strip prolonging your time on it.
>does braking slow you down more than simply letting off the gas
Are you moronic? And if you genuinely don't know the answer why not just go in practice mode for 5 seconds and try it? Why does this game bring out the dumbest motherfrickers?
I'm starting to feel like I just don't know how to play with so many players. I'm good at handling the tracks and have unlocked all the backdrops so far. I can sometimes get a high rank and maintain it and have won a few times, but mostly I can never get away from the pack and just get bounded around endlessly.
Just use your spin attack at the right moment to get breathing space or move to a place where you need to be(jump or boost pad, good racing line etc).
And keep watch on your spark accumulation. Being stuck in the pack is fine. But if you aren't getting any super boost for it, that is not fine. Try to move up a little with a boost and maybe a spin attack and see if you find a place in the sparky sun where your meter fills faster.
>be falcongay >entire life is a struggle >getting in the top 5 is practically sexual >tire of going all out and not getting rewarded >pick up the fire stingray >can actually control my fricking vehicle >it doesn't feel like i'm driving on ice 100% of the time >get 13th and 6th in my first 2 races
My fellow Falcon players. I pray that you, too, can break free of your curse. Break the shackles of masochism compelling you to play that rocket-propelled dumpster.
My third race got me 4th. I don't even know how to control this vehicle yet. You're blinded by your faith, you fool! Take off that helmet and see what you're missing!
MAybe I'm secretly good and will place well after I stop near-exclusively playing Blue Falcon, I want to at least get first place on a normal race. Most I've gotten was 2nd. Do you get anything for 1st on GP?
It's by far the best for sticking to the middle of the pack. You don't get bullied, you're durable enough to take lots of hits, and you can zoom to steal kills without much fear of the attempt costing you your life. Then using your hoard of accumulated energy, plus a skyway, you take the finale by storm.
Not being thrown around in the pack is a massive boon and lets you reliably gather sparks. It also has the lowest boost cost in the game relative to durability so if you get even a couple of KOs you can probably outboost a Fox. Gray bumpers are easy KOs if you can spot them and you don't even need to go for players. It's a very consistent machine and it's easy to place top 25 at minimum and top 10 consistently if you manage your boosts and sparks well.
Fact of the matter is, besides slow pit lane recovery, Goose is the real middle of the road machine. They're built for racking up KOs which is a true ultimate capability in this game's design, they aren't as slippery as Fox, and they aren't as fricked as a bumpy Stingray. If you can get KOs mid-race, you've got a lot of extra boost leeway, and if you can rack them up over a GP, you've got more of an advantage than everyone else on the track in how much speed you can cover.
>Can get top 10 finishes and top 25 in most races >Absolutely suck at Death Wind >Highest finish 19th >Wanna practice it to get better >Mute City >Mute City >Mute City >Big Blue >Big Blue >Mute City
How am I ever getting to Silence...
Since the BS f zero content seems like an easy choice for future updates what are the chances of Maximum Velocity content being added? I doubt this of all games would be one where they use chronological events to bar their inclusion and the vehicles from it would need little to no redesigning to fit into the snes aesthetic (Jet Vermillion being the big exception)
I doubt more machines would be added, but it would be nice to see SNES style versions of the later machines, and all of the BS, MV, GP and Climax tracks represented.
But that's just way too much for a F2P game released on short notice.
To be honest I don’t see more cars being added. The cars need to be extremely distinctive in silhouette s from a rear angle because of all the different colour schemes, even 8 cars would make it harder for players to tell the difference let alone the 30 some people are talking about.

Well it’s hard to say, since Maximum Velocity is getting added to NSO, maybe they should’ve held off on it if they knew they were going to drop 99 before it
Every time I see a 2D Fire Emblem I wish the series never tried to go 3D, they were so much better when they were sprite-based, and the 3D games have somehow not gotten any better looking since Radiant Dawn
The biggest thing about them is the clearer look, especially on the map. Oftentimes I struggle to recognize the units on the field in the newer releases.
Sadly, that's a consequence of 3D being a bit less time consuming and no one is save for online enthusiasts are teaching how to sprite or draw. A ton of other franchises have stuck with 3D for the same reason. Something like Legend of Mana is a pipe dream if the studio cheaps out but for an understandable reason
Today's lesson comes in response to a letter we received in our inbox! Thanks for your letter, C!
C writes, >Bart, >I really enjoy the fast pace of the races, but the thing I enjoy most is crashing other racers. Maybe it's because I'm a PvP junky, but the idea of ending other people's GP dreams is almost more fulfilling than winning the race itself! How can I crash more racers most efficiently?
My, my, you've quite a taste for carnage, C! The art of crashing out other racers is one best reserved for a durable machine such as the Wild Goose. Each successful KO translates to more energy for your machine, so ramming into others is the best way to achieve that.
One good method to acquire some lucky KO's is to boost into a pack of machines, especially on the last leg of the lap. Add in a spin attack for massive damage! Remember that smoke and fire is the mark of a machine on the brink of death, so aim for those most of all!
Beyond that, always remember that bumping others can lead to their eventual demise. The most aggressive racer get extra points in the rankings!
As always, feel free to send your own correspondence to our new inbox, [email protected]!
Whoops, looks like that's all the time we have for today. See you next time!!
I love it when bumplets try to crash me out and fail miserably. Nothing greater than seeing a guy ruining his race by driving head first into the wall.
>have 5 tickets >enter the Grand Prix because why not I only need 83 more points to unlock one of Fox's skins >placed in the top 3 several times but never taken the trophy >1st on Mute City >12th on Big Blue >4th on Sand Ocean >1st on Death Wind >tied for first going into Silence >"Damn, this is the best position I've ever been in to take 1st" >start off not well, miss the jump plate and have to boost through the gravel >"Whatever, I'll take it considering the last time I somehow ramped off the side and crashed" >have to basically slow to a crawl on several turns >get rammed into the wall once or twice, can't boost where I'd like to >stuck below 10th for, like, half the race >manage to claw my way into 6th place for the 4th lap >rival is at least 3 seconds ahead of me >"Frick, no way I'm passing him unless he crashes out or something" >boost down the last straight away out of the s-bend >decelerate and slide through that final hell gauntlet of a u-turn >pass boost past 5th and 4th place >don't hit a single bumper or side >1st and 2nd collide with each other in a freak fender bender >cleanly boost past both dodging every red bumper down the stretch to pass the finish line and take 1st >mfw
Damn, it was a long hard road full of heart break and disappointment, but now that I've unlocked all the colors I'm happy that I can just play my favorite machine for fun. Now to do it with all the other machines, someone please end my self-abuse, ha ha
I managed to get the black and gold skins for all the machines in the first week. It was hardest for Goose and Stingray cause I cannot spam boost as much with them but now I can flex my status.
Also how can I win with Goose consistently? I can never react fast enough to a smoking car. Either someone else gets them, I’m near them but my spin is on cooldown or they spin when I get to them. I usually get KOs right at the end when it means nothing anyways unless it’s GP.
Play conservatively with your boosts and maintain a position in the top 20. You should get 2 skyways per game. Use your 2nd skyway either at the tail end of the 3rd lap or the start of the 4th lap and then boost like a maniac.
Stingray has more durability then the Blue falcon yet the Blue falcon seems like it can boost more without reaching zero health to me? I have even less of a clue what "recovery" means
Also, does your speed go down as you lose health, or is it just once you're near zero you slow down? Like, there's a intermediate stage where you're smoking but not smoking a ton. Are you slower then?
>Stingray has more durability then the Blue falcon yet the Blue falcon seems like it can boost more without reaching zero health to me?
durability is total health, boost cost is a different hidden stat that varies by machine
Even in practice where there's no other variables and when I don't hit any walls or anything, I consistently get better times with the falcon over the goose or the stingray despite those having higher top speeds, allegedly
Because Acceleration is overall more important than Top Speed in raw track maneuvering unless you can minimize having to accelerate again as something like the Stingray.
Recovery is how much health you regain in the pit.
[...]
There are more things to factor than just top speed. Acceleration, Grip and the lines you're taking, the number of boosts you're using each lap, etc. You are probably getting better times with the Falcon because the other two machines have really bad recovery and so you are boosting way less with them.
if i'm not hitting walls, and turning doesn't lower your speed (
Nope. Just alters your direction.
No and thank frick for that
), where am I losing speed to where i'm needing to re-accelerate?
Every sharp turn where you have to lay off the gas to not hit said walls, aka all those bastard turns on Silence, or the sharp U on Sand Ocean. A Stingray or Goose can handle the turn more gracefully than a Falcon or Fox, but a good Falcon/Fox can recover faster and take the lead every time. In the middle of a real race, every single bump a Stingray takes is decelerating them and forcing them into recovery again.
Recovery is how much health you regain in the pit.
I feel like the stats lie to you in general
Even in practice where there's no other variables and when I don't hit any walls or anything, I consistently get better times with the falcon over the goose or the stingray despite those having higher top speeds, allegedly

>be on last lap of white land >less than 80 people remaining >figure "this is a good opportunity to get the 5 ko cheeve by driving backwards into the pack" >do so for 10 seconds >flat out get ejected from the race with a "driving the wrong way is not allowed" message
c**ts
>Start GP >Don't get a good start in Mute City >By lap 3 I'm sitting in the 50 range >Jump of the ramp into the abyss >Once I get back to the main menu I realize I have no more tickets >No desire to try again
Almost in the same boat as you, but I'm just done with GP mode. All the other modes are still a good time, but something about GP mode just sucks all the fun out of it.
>All the other modes are still a good time, but something about GP mode just sucks all the fun out of it.
GP is pretty much Ranked Mode, and then you've got all the pressure on top of that to perform
99 Mode >Chill environment >More goofy and cool shit tends to happen because of the casual aspect of it >Good place to experiment with machines you aren't familiar with >More rewards to be had from playing it >Less frequency of running into 99+ autists >Just one race, then onto the next one
GP Mode >Tense environment >You must bring your A-game as the slightest mistake will spell doom >If you don't finish consistently in the top 5 you're fricked, only reason to continue at that point is either for level EXP or unlocking Silence if you haven't yet >Crash Out and you have to wait a minute until you can get back out >Guaranteed that you will have 2 or 3 99+ autists in there who will run through the cup flawlessly >Hope slowly dies as you proceed through each race knowing you won't win and your efforts are meaningless
>Guaranteed that you will have 2 or 3 99+ autists in there who will run through the cup flawlessly
no matter what you have a chance of winning because anything can happen in a race. they could just frickin die
i wish that was the case when i did my first falcon gp
scored 944 points to the jp twitch streamers perfect 1000, literally at a point decided to ruin my entire run just to even try and catch up to him and KO his ass but it was impossible
btw 3rd place barely even had 900 points so it should have in theory been a free victory
>they could just frickin die
Those are some very low odds you're rolling for, but it is possible. Most people aren't going to be having much fun waiting for a 1% chance to go their way in order to have any chance at winning.
>Try hard knoight league all weekend >get in the top 20 on the first 3 tracks track consistently >Never make death Wind >ok one last try >63,60,39 >Ngmi >Survive first round 14th >Second lap >Wtf Im driving first >Start to frick up and miss boosters >Get a miracle 20th
Finally I have silence
I'd post the webm, but it's just me dodging bumpers for an entire lap. I spooked 2 foxes into suicide. They weren't expecting MY HERO Captain Falcon to be on their tail.
sand ocean is the only stage in regular pool that's favourable to it
it's also good on white land, port town and silence but these are in pro tracks and gp respectively and don't count
Won my first GP of the day, with the Goose
964 points
I'm feeling good today. I need to grind leaderboard points for colors with Goose and he's so consistent, it'll be a comfy ride.
> 3.5 hours old thread > 92 replies.
Hahahah, dead thread dead game.
Seems like people are waking up to the fact that this is a microtransaction gacha nightmare waiting to happen.
Good to see people don't want to play an old SNES ROM with shitty online.
Can't wait for this F-Zero fad to leave so you can go back to crying about your dead franchise NOBODY cares about!
Hahahha
Spectate mode is moronic and I want the game to give me the option of immediately exiting to the main menu when crashing out instead of making me wait while it loads the next race that I don't care about watching.
all of the 1s are like that, effectively basic layouts and training wheels to get you used to the hairpin crazy F-Zero has in the later leagues. by King League there's nasty course walls and mines everywhere just to spite you while the AI would race perfectly through it to the point that Golden Fox was physically unable to beat the Master League without TAS level bump denial.
good ol' f-zero snes may lack the spin attack of later games or the bastardly item usage of mario kart, but made up for it by cheating how the AI treats race lines as literal and simply do not run on the same physics/stats the player does. it's entirely possible for them to be knocked off the course in a jump and just float on the "sky" to the side before phasing through the walls back on course
It's not you, everyone jobs on that course. It's the final race of Knight League for good reason.
The best place to start is by letting off the accelerate button. Yeah, you slow down but so does everyone else and losing a few kmh and staying in your lane is preferable to slamming into the wall and losing your lane AND speed AND boost meter.
That Little Wyvern looks busted as hell. It should probably have its recovery or grip docked by a notch if it's going to have everything else going for it. Having said that, I tried to make Little Wyvern work in GX for the longest time, so maybe it'd be some karmic justice to have it finally be unquestionably good.
Anyway, I choose Red Gazelle because I crave death at the highest of speeds.
>Having said that, I tried to make Little Wyvern work in GX for the longest time, so maybe it'd be some karmic justice to have it finally be unquestionably good.
I always found Little Wyvern to be a solid machine in GX. Boost and grip are quite good, and it also has a nice speed retention. It just has a kind of weak body, but despite that it's still a very solid machine in my opinion. It's basically a better Blue Falcon. I use Little Wyvern a lot while I was learning the game. It's very well rounded.
Which 00 car do dri/v/ers prefer? Deathborn's DARK SCHNEIDER from GX or Ryu Suzaku's DRAGON BIRD from the anime? Coincidentally, both cars share a dragon-inspired aesthetic.
I love it how the villains in F-Zero treat racing completely seriously and won't go through with a good plot for murder or world domination or whatever unless it involves a good race.
>Deathborn says that racing is stupid and it's just means to an end so he can destroy the universe and remake it as he likes >Challenges Falcon to a race for the champion belt instead of just taking it from him
Then again, Falcon fights the creators of the universe and all they want to do is race him so they probably just made everyone that way
>Falcon fights the creators of the universe and all they want to do is race him
The best bit about being challenged to a race by what is essentially God is how Falcon scoffs at the idea of being beaten.

New philosophical quandry: could God make a race he couldn't win?

"a race that God can't win" is nonsense that merely presents as coherent because it's grammatically correct, when it's really a non-thing like a four sided triangle.
The Champion's Belt is revealed to have no powers at all.

The F-Zero plot sounds seriously moronic.
I should probably get GX regardless since I'm too competitive and unskilled to really enjoy online games for long, I get mad if I can't win

It’s moronic but it’s really funny especially in the context of it being a skill-based racer where you are forced to kill black bull in the first 3 seconds of a race

It has that nice mix of ridiculous bullshit mixed with endearing cheesyness.
From basically Satan to an old senile man and a literal monkey. It's stupid fun.

You might still get mad if you aren't patient with that one. Only GX and the end of the anime veer into being nonsense in different ways. GP Legend on GBA is pretty even on that front.

GX is the only one with a "plot" as such. The original just has the context of the pack-in comic and nothing else. X gives every racer their own little circumstances, some of which are interconnected, but there's no overall plot or story being advanced. The closest thing to serious stakes is "Black Shadow is a crime lord and is sick of Falcon's bounty hunting arresting his operatives, so he joins the GP to embarass and kill Falcon on the world stage".
Then GX comes along and throws in some very anime-flavoured bullshit about racing belts that contain the power to reshape reality. It's SUCH a massive increase that it's really bizarre. Funny, though.

schneider is too edgy and organic and sticks out like a sore thumb, besides deathborn is fricking dead canonically
dragon bird looks like an 80s japanese sportscar and i'm all in for it, it's a clearly civilian-derived design modified for racing

Dragon bird is kinda lame. I remember watching the show and thinking “yeah this just looks like a normal car” which is the point I guess but it’s just a step above the Crazy Bear for me.

Dragon Bird looks like a hovercraft sans the fan. Schneider may be too sleek and organic compared to the rest of the roster, but that at least works since it's meant to be a Bad Guy supervillain car. Dragon Bird is very, very generic.

I don’t understand stand the Goose at all. I’m smacking people around but I never seem to get KOs with it. Maybe I’m using my boosts at the wrong time and should wait until later in the lap? But by then I’ve got a full yellow bar and it just forces me to the skyway
Stay back and prey on the weak until you get the Skyway, then repeat until second Skyway. Optimally, your health bar is now extra girthy so you can boost like a moron in the final lap.
The Goose doesn't magically do more damage to every car. Pay attention to how much damage you take when other players bump into you. You can't expect to actually kill anyone unless they are already smoking. You have to pick your targets not just ram at random.
I'm S4 now, am missing a SINGLE color among the 4 machines (Stingray 9999 leaderboard points which i'm at 8600 or something) and I STILL dont have that cheevo.
And it's not even close, my best is 3/5, it says.
Killing people is hard.
Just sack a game and kill 5 bumpers
I still need double KO (KO'ing someone and simultaneously being KO'd by them) and the safe rank one which I think I'm too good to ever get
Grey and Red Bumpers are CPU controlled (and yes, the red ones explode when you either drive into them or pass close by them), and the Blue ones are player controlled. If you look you can see player names above them.
>What's the difference between grey and red machines? The second ones explode?
Correct. And you get nothing from making them explode, so avoid them at all costs. If you can't avoid a collision, spin to reduce the damage a bit.
>How do you identify machines controlled by humans after they were KO?
The player name will be shown underneath where it says KO. Also when you KO someone your entire health/boost bar is both increased and restored to full. When you KO a grey bumper car it increases, but you only get a little bit of health back.
>try turning and strafing the opposite ways >doesn't slide like in x >doesn't mts like in gx >doesn't crab like in redout >doesn't stabilize the ship like rear brake on motorcycle like in wipeout >literally just cancels the strafe input altogether
why
The best way to turn (on Wild Goose at least) is to prep hold strafe as you head into a sharp turn. Then when you turn, it'll trigger an incredibly sharp turn with little drifting.
It seems like there's a delay before this kicks in, so if you try to strafe and then turn it'll not trigger properly.
Compgays and metaBlack folk ruined this game. You can't win unless you get extremely lucky with bumpers screwing over people ahead. Nintendo really needs to do something to make this game approachable for anyone but autists anymore.
It's worth remembering that there's people out there who've been playing the SNES version for decades. You are pinballed around far less in 99 than in the original, so combine that with track knowledge, car knowledge and the new boost mechanics and it's no wonder some racers are fricking monsters.
That said, I WOULD appreciate a way to filter out those at the uppermost skill level. Something like: >Congratulations! You're now eligible for the EXPERT CUP. Race in Grand Prix gauntlets against the best of the best and prove yourself and F-Zero legend.
>Get fricked early in team battle >Get to be a bumper >Realize I get to be a bumper for the whole race >mfw I get to be a huge dick all race ong >Spend the whole race being a dick to Pink gays >KO two racers >get like 200+ points
Do KO's as bumpers count towards Power meter extension?
Maybe I should crash out early in team battle more, lol.
>playing team battle with Golden Fox >not good with this car at all but want the color >eat shit early on and feel like I let the team down >oh, my lucky bumper >get 3 KOs and our team wins

I have the feeling one of you fricks would use this name so if CHADFalcon is here, tough luck gay, the other Level 18 Falcon who was tying me also died, I won with 966 points and a 66 points lead.
Truly a beautiful scam.
>tfw just realised different vehicles have different boost start timings >Goose is just any time after the third dot >do that with Fox and you get a flameout >Fox needs to start right before the Go
Regarding this as possibly leading to more F-Zero games, it's worth considering that the series has never actually had the chance to gain wider appeal via the modern video game market. GX was the last title anyone really cared about and that was on a console that itself underperformed. Social media didn't even fricking exist when GX debuted and the series has basically been inert since then. 99 is the first time F-Zero style gameplay has been let loose into a world where people can share their clutch wins or spectacular frick-ups and stream it for hours at a time, so it's become so much more visible than it's ever been and people seem to really be enjoying it.
I don't think it's a guarantee that we'll ever get another one, but I hope 99 thriving right out of the gate convinces Nintendo that there's still something to this.
I don’t wanna piss on your hopes and dreams but I’ve been thinking about the possibility of a 99 version of the later games and they have some significant downsides. Namely that the ships move considerably faster.
It’s hard to keep all these ships in sync, a significant number of the packets sent every frame don’t make it so the game has to basically try to guess where opponents are based on their last frame. If something crucial happens during a missed packet like a collision then you end up with a discrepancy between where the game assumed a guy would be and where they actually are. The way most games resolve this is to gradually try to move the representation of where they seemed to be back to where they actually are over time, ie blend it. If you do it too quickly or you’ve missed too many packets it looks like shit moving weirdly and pingponging around, or even teleporting. F-zero 99 kinda gets away with this it’s full of players bouncing around anyway.
But because all the other games are much faster you can end up with a way bigger discrepancy from even a single missed packets, because ships move a greater distance in a single frame. Maybe so much worse that you can’t really do online multiplayer without it looking bad.
I have played 3-player splitscreen in GX. When you get 3 people MTS-ing the same corner, you intersect more often than not, especially when you're using different machines. I can't even imagine the shitshow that would be 30-person snaking (all my homies are too straight for snaking so we haven't tried it).
Futuristic racing games are a niche within a retro niche, they will never truly be popular. Most people dont like racing games, even fewer like the idea of AG cars and even fewer want to play them online. This is doing well because its free and is basically mario kart with a trendy twist. If we ever get a new game I fear it'll take more design inspiration from fall guys than GX.
I'm getting frustrated and am losing faith in the Falcon. I can't find a way to consistently do well in Mute City or Big Blue, therefore I can't see me winning a GP with it (knight, at least)
if I get shoved to the rough one single time I know it's over for me
Damn, go back to the SNES F-Zero if you really want some mind frick. The draw distance, physics, controls and graphical quality is so radically different from 99.
>Goose player >Spot someone start smoking, they move towards the edge of the track to try and avoid other people >I turn 90 degrees to spin and boost into them and kill them
There's nothing funnier than witnessing a Goose player go full kamikaze mode and fly off the track to murder someone.
I've seen it twice so far and I really wish I recorded them.
>I turn 90 degrees to try and spin and boost into them and get total fricked
ftfy, nothing funnier than evading Goosefrickers and them face planting the wall. Sometimes I even boost when I see a Goosefricker to get some smoke on me. It's like a red blanket before a bull.
No, I boost to high health smoke and bait you. Since most Goosefrickers can't even take easy turns on Sand Ocean they can't ajust when you evade them by simple turning.
>No, I boost to high health smoke and bait you
Why are you pretending? The smoke threshold for any vehicle means you're one boost away from powering down. If you boost while smoking to evade getting blown up, then you're dead or at minimum out of the race soon.
>just never make a sharp turn >just never touch the wall >just never get caught in the pack >just never touch another player >just never use boost >just never not be in the lead >just never have to dodge bumpers
Perfect time trial machine.
>just never make a sharp turn
it's the best at sharp turns tho
and it can afford to go through mud so it's a bit of an suv in terms of lines it can take
and it's an underrated ko machine because of its handling, it can pick up kills that geese and foxes can't because they can't reach the smoker safely without compromising their racing line
yes, you get two boosts per race if you gun it, three if you lift and coast on recharge pad (you'll drop to 420 and stay around there, then get on throttle and you'll quickly climb back to 478), but you barely get any speedier from using it than from just cruising at top speed anyway
just stay a bit off the racing line, you're very flexible with how you can take corners compared to other machines
>hit up f-zero snes rom to get a refresher on old tracks >queen league >mute city 2 is good stuff >red canyon 1 is going to be a bit of a mess >port town 1 is easier port town 2 that still retains the only annoying section >white land 1 everybody already knows >white land 2 is gonna kill a whole bunch
>king league >mute city 3 sucks, easily the worst one >death wind 2 is going to murder everybody and it'll never be willingly picked >port town 2 we know >red canyon 2 probably easier than the first >fire field will be the first one where it'll probably really matter on your boost timing/usage since the recharge pad is off to the side
on a side note the tracks were notably narrower, or that's how it felt anyway.
ah, I wasn't aware. I thought nso+ locked all the emulation stuff, not just gba/genesis/n64. I'm half tempted to buy one of the snes/n64 controllers regardless, but frick the genesis controller because it's a mark 1 3 button not a mark 2 6 button.
>kill a grey bumper at the start of the last lap on big blue >boost meter fully charged on the strip, time for the goose to get loose >in a perfect storm of a lap I go from the 30s to 1st >at the last corner a red bumper spawns literally on top of me >the grey bumper ko means i have just enough life left to finish the race and win
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, I HAVE AN ERECTION
Which palette is the white blue pink for Stingray? Don't tell me it's GP victory. I've come in top 5 before but I don't think it's realistically possible now, too many foxes around to place high on Mute City.
I just won this race in sand ocean.
The run was pretty clean. I stayed in first for almost the entirety of the race and i won for more than 2 seconds of difference with the second place.
I can say sand ocean is stingray turf. I always do pretty well there.
I think it's as much about track being suitable for 'Ray in particular as it is the fact that you can cheese the funnel and consistently hit the track in the top 30 (because half are still timmies who go forward), from where Stingray thrives. On every other track it has to climb through the ranks of rabid foxes sliding all over and angry geese looking for a KO recharge so by the time you frontrun you got no energy left, but on Sand Ocean it can stay consistently ahead of the big pack and use its speed preservation to gain on the leaders.
We got dominated by this purple stingray that I swear is from here. Forgot his name but it’s in that clip of the fox getting knocked off a ramp by the lucky bumper in silence. 5 whole seconds. He’s the best stingray I think.
Golden Fox really resonates with me because its low defense, low top speed and god tier recovery makes it more of a ressource management gane than anything else, but Goddamn does this make it a huge glass canon.
Honestly, I rank top 25 on average when I can finish a race and I'm satisfied with this progress, but that is IF and WHEN I finish a race.
I'm greedy as frick and I always end up boosting on low health because I fricked a corner up and instinctively try to correct through boost.
I got one second place on Big Blue so far and 7th in the Knight cup. I know I can do this. Despite crashing 90% of the races, I have a feeling that I'll get the hang of it eventually and stop being such an impatient moron.
I feel like more of a glass cannon with Stingray. It's not about health but how many times you can boost without entering the danger zone, and if Stingray loses any speed he HAS to boost or fall back into the pack. Even when I route out my races to boost once per lap I can go critical by the end of lap 3 because I needed to boost an extra time or stay at 300km/h for half a lap
Makes Sand Ocean feel great though, when you know your lines you pretty much never fall below 450km/h
>if Stingray loses any speed he HAS to boost
you can get a bump from someone behind you, look at the arrows on the bottom of the screen. you'll lose some places until you get a good bumpstart but its acceleration is faster from 420 onward so it'll start pulling forward.
also get off the throttle on recharge pads to get more energy
recharge is based on time spent on the pad, not distance
skyway pads are longer so you can get a really big recharge if you get off the throttle there while not dropping below cruise speed, useful when you skyway to save yourself from power down
Probably minimal. There's been some data mining, but it's all incomplete and lumped together with unused assets. I'd love for them to just take tracks from the other 2D games.
It might make sense to let it lie low for a bit until the new cup. No point in bumping a lifeless thread all the time, but this would not do well in generals either.
Won with falcon, he's pretty fun jack-of-all trades. Adaptable, easy to kill with but also easy to get killed with. Blue Falcon's best trait is the control, his vehicle feels the best to turn with even if you can get bumped around. It's a vehicle the rewards proficiency similar to the fire stingray.
Anyone else just can't see a bumper in the middle of the pack and lose all their health in 5 seconds because you thought you where boosting though a Blue colored player?
Tips for Fire Stingray? Really enjoying it, but I struggle to make it through a Grand Prix. Feels like if I fall behind at all I'm fricked, because I need to boost to stay out of the elimination range, and then I have no energy so I die.
death wind is the easiest one to not die on as stingray imo. once you hit the start line, don't boost (unless gp and you've got a ko buffer) until you hit the 3 rough pads. boost straight through them, and use l/r strafing to help keep yourself in position for the boost pads. a notable point is that the rough pads and boost pads (and recharge pad, too I think?) are unaffected by wind, so dont overcompensate while going through/using them. use any super boost you have after the boost panel before the finish line, as there are 3 boosters on the skyway.
That's how I usually play it, yeah. But with how narrow the roads are, usually some sort of tragedy happens that forces me to use a boost, and then it feels like a major uphill battle to maintain a decent position without dipping into the red.
Don't worry, it will be added as a "Pro" track, so people get to unlock it if they can't get to the finals for a GP. You'll experience the absolute clusterfrick chaos that will be 20 racers crashing out at the same time because of spins pushing them JUST far back enough to miss the jump pad on the other side. Remember people, if you think you have enough speed, save your spin to just before the end, you'll get a ton of KOs.
it's probably not, since unlike the snes version where you ignore floor effects when boosting, you still get affected in 99. but that raises the followup question: if not there, then where?
>Trying to unlock colors on my neglected machines >Wanna try out Stingray >Supposedly the "Time Trials" machine. >Can't even begin to match my Goose times >Can't get frontrunner in 99 >Can't really brawl >Speed is its best trait but I can barely get any in bumper car city >Finish 25th-30th each race.
How the frick do I Stingray? Holy shit this feels bad.
Boosting start kinda ain’t worth it, just slam the main boost since you’re going into the pit lane anyway.
Stingray should be smashing the goose in time trial. Your racing lines should be tight because you’ve got all that grip. Your boost is usually best used after you’ve had to slow down because of a tight turn, or failing that on a straight. You basically get one per lap.
Man, I can consistently stay in the Top 10 during the GP except for Big Blue, I have no idea what's up with that track that always drops me below the 20th position.
>got a win with every car >got every color for pico with a grand prix win under my belt >nintendo online 7 day trial running out soon
Think I'll leave it at that.
I would've bought it and played it more but I'm not gonna pay Nintendo to use my own internet on principle alone.
>almost win sand ocean with falcon in GP >hit an explody bumper very last turn and ruin it
I think I can win with falcon in GP if I jsut fricking DODGE these bumpers they're fricking everywehre on the tracks with turns and I'm watching the falcon that overtook me after I died (we were top 2 in the GP and rivals) be in like 6th on death wind and he's like me Mordecai I am you but falcon is really good for these tracks yeah if someone says falcon sucks they just play on 99 mode it's fricking good on sand ocean (which is in 99 yeah but it's the only track there that has real turns), silence, port town, white land, yeah yeah falcon bros i get you but red bumbers scare me. also mordecai is in first on silence rn lap 4 I think he's gonna do it he was scared too he just did it. He won. Mordecai won the pre with a pink falcon. proud of you bro don't forget i paced the way to your victory
Stingray can only boost four times per energy bar, you're not supposed to be boosting with it, you're supposed to learn the tracks optimally with its superior speed and grip.
>in the Foxy boi >race 2 of Grand Prix >final lap >50th >catch up to front of the pack by the end of the lap >finish line in sight, two ahead >a smoking Goose >wreck him before the finish line

>only a few points behind 1st
>1st place is S5 99+
>they get the lead and never drop it
>crash out boosting in a desperate attempt to get anywhere near them

Playing Fox well on Mute City, which comes up about 40% of the time, was how I did it. For as much shit as it gets the car is very skill based.

How do you guys get the clips off your Switch and convert to webm?
before i got a cheapo usb video capture device i'd just plug my switch into my PC via USB. i think it's system - data management - transfer images and videos to computer
If you got a PC just hook it up to your Switch, copy the files and compress them using this: https://github.com/WebMBro/WebMConverter
Back in my day this was WebM for morons
I still have webmformorons and it still works just fine.

Oh my god you’re right what the FRICK
Death Wind 2 is a Moai head
how do you turn to the right fast enough to not hit the wall on the second part of that little S part?
even when braking / letting off the gas and sliding I can never do it without either hitting the wall or going at like 100mph
you probably aren't starting the right slide early enough, or you're sliding to the left initially too long
a bit late but i'm here and will always be. always fun to see people shit on falcon here and saying it's bad when i always get high placed if not fully win despite never having played f-zero before. i think the reason why people are thinking it's bad is because they try to use it while following a very specific meta instead of trying to play good. if used well it can be very great, especially in harder levels (that or i'm more used to playing those).
It's the only machine without any kind of min-maxing going on, which people seem to feel means "no advantages whatsoever". I honestly enjoy how all four machines have shaped up so far and reckon any tweaks made need to be extremely minor. I don't even want anymore machines, just more courses to race on.
>I don't even want anymore machines, just more courses to race on.
i agree, it's getting kinda annoying playing the exact same ones again and again, especially when you simply can't get some of them. i get that Silence would be a mess at 99, but why not include it? or why not include more choices? hopefully it doesn't take too long for the rest, they said end of september iirc and they surely have seen that people like it
When the new tracks arive all the goose frickers and fox furries will be filtered. They can't even take a turn on Sand Ocean.
Good as a general choice, but not a choice for winning in the face of competent and better suited competition.

>mfw getting a lead with the stingray and never letting go
I now understand why people detest that windy stage
I love Death Wind. I don't know why, but everyone else seems to utterly suck at this track. Meanwhile I keep getting free high placements every time. I got like 3 wins on death wind at this point too.
I tried Goroh for like 5 tracks and one of them was a win on Death Wind.
I love going in circles and hitting boost pads.
Maybe its because we aren't mutts. I hate just taking a right turn
>always ranking out in Knight League Death Wind with Goose
Looks like I need to learn to kill people better. This machine's laughably low recovery means that I just can't compete in this track otherwise.
Go after bumpers the first couple of matches, it's an easy way to boost your health for later rounds.
Yeah. That's what I've been thinking about myself. I have to hone my killing skills.
I have no advice for Silence.
Death Wind I is easy. Death Wind II is hell.
>grand prix Death Wind
Trying to get top 20 against competent racers gets my blood pumping too much to hate the level.
Because the intro gives an unfair advantage to those who start on the far left of the track. They have the benefit of moving with the wind to take the optimal route.
>Because the intro gives an unfair advantage to those who start on the far left of the track
when i started in dead last i was one of the last cars if not the last car on the left. i needed that shit to survive
just you fricking wait
I think death wind SUCKS!
Does breaking with Y deaccelerate you faster then letting go of B?
Or are they the same?
Isn't letting go b for dropping 1 kph so you have better turning
right, i'm asking if for sharp turns, letting go of B and holding Y are the same or if the latter will help more
You only need to be 1 kph under your max speed for better control. So in most cases dropping gas and both leaning and turning is enough.
>take 1st place on silence quick because I was grinding my lap 1 tactics
>drop it quickly because I'm not consistent enough to do every turn properly
>start grinding silence trials again
>half the time i can't go 4/4 laps without blunders like missing the ramp or fricking up the turns because I keep experimenting with lines I want to work but won't
>spend an hour straight grinding trials instead of my weekend assignment of grinding sections of a song
>consider taking a """break""" by grinding sections of a shoot em up
my life now is just repeating 40 second loops while going insane
yes. braking is primarily used as a tool to turn while boosting. why would you want to boost midturn? because you wanted a boost to finish earlier. for example in the last turn of silence if you boost right soon after the corner you can make it end right before the repair strip instead of using any boost speed on the strip prolonging your time on it.
>does braking slow you down more than simply letting off the gas

Never. Someone has to bear the mantle.

Stop playing the worst vehicle.
it's great for grand prix
More like grand pricks.
MAybe I'm secretly good and will place well after I stop near-exclusively playing Blue Falcon, I want to at least get first place on a normal race. Most I've gotten was 2nd. Do you get anything for 1st on GP?
Is there an image or video which shows all the cosmetic unlocks?
>get told in threads goose is terrible and has no pros
>the vast majority of the top 1/3 or so of racerss in the grand prix are gooses
explain this
Who the frick told you that? Goose is easily the 2nd best.
What even makes the Goose good? It feels mediocre but i have way better results with it than Falcon/Fox despite that.
If you can get KOs mid-race, you've got a lot of extra boost leeway, and if you can rack them up over a GP, you've got more of an advantage than everyone else on the track in how much speed you can cover.
goose can actually afford the health cost of rear ending a gray bumper 3 times for the health upgrade

Fair enough

Yo! Wasn't today's F-Zero 99 thread interesting?!
Today's lesson comes in response to a letter we received in our inbox! Thanks for your letter, C!
C writes,
>Bart,
>I really enjoy the fast pace of the races, but the thing I enjoy most is crashing other racers.

I usually get KOs right at the end when it means nothing anyways unless it’s GP.
what's the go for spins - save them or spam them?
Play conservatively with your boosts and maintain a position in the top 20. You should get 2 skyways per game. Use your 2nd skyway either at the tail end of the 3rd lap or the start of the 4th lap and then boost like a maniac.
What does "durability" even mean?
Stingray has more durability then the Blue falcon yet the Blue falcon seems like it can boost more without reaching zero health to me? I have even less of a clue what "recovery" means
Also, does your speed go down as you lose health, or is it just once you're near zero you slow down? Like, there's a intermediate stage where you're smoking but not smoking a ton. Are you slower then?
durability is how many hits you can take
Affects how much damage you take from collisions. Duh.
durability means the amount of damage you can withstand.
>Stingray has more durability then the Blue falcon yet the Blue falcon seems like it can boost more without reaching zero health to me?
durability is total health, boost cost is a different hidden stat that varies by machine
I feel like the stats lie to you in general
Even in practice where there's no other variables and when I don't hit any walls or anything, I consistently get better times with the falcon over the goose or the stingray despite those having higher top speeds, allegedly
Because Acceleration is overall more important than Top Speed in raw track maneuvering unless you can minimize having to accelerate again as something like the Stingray.
if i'm not hitting walls, and turning doesn't lower your speed (
), where am I losing speed to where i'm needing to re-accelerate?
breaking on tight turns can improve your race lines.
There are more things to factor than just top speed. Acceleration, Grip and the lines you're taking, the number of boosts you're using each lap, etc. You are probably getting better times with the Falcon because the other two machines have really bad recovery and so you are boosting way less with them.
>be on last lap of white land
>less than 80 people remaining
>figure "this is a good opportunity to get the 5 ko cheeve by driving backwards into the pack"
>do so for 10 seconds
>flat out get ejected from the race with a "driving the wrong way is not allowed" message
c**ts
Does turning (or sliding/strafing) lower your speed?
Nope. Just alters your direction.
No and thank frick for that
Probably my final rank of the week.
What are you supposed to be doing at the start of a race?
If you time B/Accelerate to "go" you just stall after?
The timing is based on your machine's acceleration. It's a different timing for each one.
>Start GP
>Don't get a good start in Mute City
>By lap 3 I'm sitting in the 50 range
>Jump of the ramp into the abyss
>Once I get back to the main menu I realize I have no more tickets
>No desire to try again
I think I'm officially burned out with this game.
just wait until the queen league is added anon
Almost in the same boat as you, but I'm just done with GP mode. All the other modes are still a good time, but something about GP mode just sucks all the fun out of it.
>All the other modes are still a good time, but something about GP mode just sucks all the fun out of it.
GP is pretty much Ranked Mode, and then you've got all the pressure on top of that to perform
99 Mode
>Chill environment
>More goofy and cool shit tends to happen because of the casual aspect of it
>Good place to experiment with machines you aren't familiar with
>More rewards to be had from playing it
>Less frequency of running into 99+ autists
>Just one race, then onto the next one
GP Mode
>Tense environment
>You must bring your A-game as the slightest mistake will spell doom
>If you don't finish consistently in the top 5 you're fricked, only reason to continue at that point is either for level EXP or unlocking Silence if you haven't yet
>Crash Out and you have to wait a minute until you can get back out
>Guaranteed that you will have 2 or 3 99+ autists in there who will run through the cup flawlessly
>Hope slowly dies as you proceed through each race knowing you won't win and your efforts are meaningless
Yeah Mute Shitty is easily the hardest part of the GP
What's the bottom right game?
Mario Kart 8.
>Try hard knoight league all weekend
>get in the top 20 on the first 3 tracks track consistently
>Never make death Wind
>ok one last try
>63,60,39
>Ngmi

>Second lap
>Wtf Im driving first
>Start to frick up and miss boosters
>Get a miracle 20th
Finally I have silence
I WON I WON I WON I WOOOOOOOOON
CAPGOD GODGOD!
Based Falconchad
I'd post the webm, but it's just me dodging bumpers for an entire lap. I spooked 2 foxes into suicide. They weren't expecting MY HERO Captain Falcon to be on their tail.
How the frick do you even win with Falcon? He's the last win I need.
sand ocean is the only stage in regular pool that's favourable to it
it's also good on white land, port town and silence but these are in pro tracks and gp respectively and don't count
I raced my heart out. No KOs, no Skyway. Just a sub 2 minute Mute City time.
uhh, goosebros? your death machine??
wait, do you not lose health for knocking into other vehicles, only if they knock into you?
Get stomped on, PoopaTroopa
this one was really satistying
I never realized your boost meter actually gets bigger when you KO someone else
Is there a way to rebind controls?
only by rebinding on the switch (changes for every game)
You can make presets, though, so it's not all that bad.
Remember, senpaitachi. Learn the tracks, learn your turns, improve your lines.
YOU GOT BOOST POWER
Won my first GP of the day, with the Goose
964 points
I'm feeling good today. I need to grind leaderboard points for colors with Goose and he's so consistent, it'll be a comfy ride.
I'd appreciate it if the game could start filtering the 99+ racers into their own GPs. Let them race each other and stay the hell away from me.
> 3.5 hours old thread
Hahahah, dead thread dead game.
Seems like people are waking up to the fact that this is a microtransaction gacha nightmare waiting to happen.
Good to see people don't want to play an old SNES ROM with shitty online.
Can't wait for this F-Zero fad to leave so you can go back to crying about your dead franchise NOBODY cares about!
Hahahha
Nice rebuttal.
Just goes to show that F-sissies are trash morons.
Somehow my first win in over 2 days is in Death Wind of all places.
Only cause it's a GP with a few kills already, but still
Reminder not to feed the microtransaction bot.
>Saw someone in a blue and white Golden Fox called "THE SKULL".
All right, that's pretty cute.
Can I just say I really love the little spins everybody does in the pre-race lobby as a means of communicating. It's so sweet.
how do you spin like that?
I think it’s just when you change car
You rapidly change cars.
YOU'VE KNOCKED ME INTO THE WALL FOR THE LAST TIME, GOOSEgayS!
Damn, I forgot she was so stacked. Or did they censor that on export?
>she's a wipeout player, not f-zero
ZAMN she got the Boobas
>I'll show you what I can do!
>*misses*
Spectate mode is moronic and I want the game to give me the option of immediately exiting to the main menu when crashing out instead of making me wait while it loads the next race that I don't care about watching.
wtf port town 1 is just baby mode port town 2
mute city 2 looks awesome though
all of the 1s are like that, effectively basic layouts and training wheels to get you used to the hairpin crazy F-Zero has in the later leagues. by King League there's nasty course walls and mines everywhere just to spite you while the AI would race perfectly through it to the point that Golden Fox was physically unable to beat the Master League without TAS level bump denial.
>Play Master with Fire Stingray
>Constantly at max speed
>Golden Fox is constantly trying to pass me
H-How...
good ol' f-zero snes may lack the spin attack of later games or the bastardly item usage of mario kart, but made up for it by cheating how the AI treats race lines as literal and simply do not run on the same physics/stats the player does. it's entirely possible for them to be knocked off the course in a jump and just float on the "sky" to the side before phasing through the walls back on course
How the frick do you turn on Silent? I think I've tried every type of turn possible, and it's still impossible
Who would you pick? I'd go with Sonic Phantom.
>hyper speeder
>not hyper speedy
It's very well rounded.
how about 50% gauge to boost
Why would you give Mighty Gazelle such mighty hips and that pose.
a-anon!
Gazelle just has luscious mechanical thighs and hips even in the games.
Because it's canon.
I don't need stats. Get me my Dragon Bird and I'll main that with Blue Falcon, constantly losing.
>death anchor
holy shit!
>Wild Boar has low durability
What the frick is this shit?
Blood Hawk
White Cat!
King Meteor, gotta rep my boy
Mfw i just killed a golden fox on silence
Rammed a smoking Fox. He bounced between me and the wall three times. Then he superboosted away. I am being lied to.
i feel like if you play it right on death wind 1 you literally never have to let go of accelerate
Which 00 car do dri/v/ers prefer? Deathborn's DARK SCHNEIDER from GX or Ryu Suzaku's DRAGON BIRD from the anime? Coincidentally, both cars share a dragon-inspired aesthetic.
Dark Schneider. Probably just biased towards GX but Deathborn was a cool over the top villain and I love him for it
>Probably just biased towards GX but Deathborn was a cool over the top villain and I love him for it
The man knows what he's about.
I love it how the villains in F-Zero treat racing completely seriously and won't go through with a good plot for murder or world domination or whatever unless it involves a good race.
MY DREAM
CAPTAIN HOT DOG
Well, except for that one time in GX when Black Shadow put a Speed-style bomb on Falcon's car and said "lol have fun with that".
He didn't kill him on the spot though, he put him in a situation that was escapable with good racing skillz.
Are any of them still dudes? The GDQ couch is cursed I swear it is.
GP Legend had Zoda sabatoge your breaks and I think Blood Falcon kidnap Jody.
>Deathborn says that racing is stupid and it's just means to an end so he can destroy the universe and remake it as he likes
>Challenges Falcon to a race for the champion belt instead of just taking it from him
Then again, Falcon fights the creators of the universe and all they want to do is race him so they probably just made everyone that way
>Falcon fights the creators of the universe and all they want to do is race him
The best bit about being challenged to a race by what is essentially God is how Falcon scoffs at the idea of being beaten.
>Come off it! You think YOU can beat me? No way!!
Falcon that's GOD
New philosophical quandry: could God make a race he couldn't win?
"a race that God can't win" is nonsense that merely presents as coherent because it's grammatically correct, when it's really a non-thing like a four sided triangle.
>the gods are literally the developers and you're racing their ghost
Utter ludokino. I wonder which of the dev team got the honor.
In my heart of hearts it was Nagoshi.
Racing is just for the prize money mostly, which funds evil organization shenanigans. I assume stealing the money is not reasonable due to security.
in GX the prize belt is explicitly a plot device that would allow someone completely control over the universe. Racing is serious business
The Champion's Belt is revealed to have no powers at all.
That was more tongue in cheek and referential to the staff I feel.
>That was more tongue in cheek and referential to the staff I feel.
That doesn't stop it from being a funny thing for him to say. It's endearingly ludicrous.
>The F-Zero plot sounds seriously moronic.
>The F-Zero plot sounds seriously moronic.
And we like it that way.

schneider is too edgy and organic and sticks out like a sore thumb, besides deathborn is fricking dead canonically
dragon bird looks like an 80s japanese sportscar and i'm all in for it, it's a clearly civilian-derived design modified for racing
>dragon bird looks like an 80s japanese sportscar and i'm all in for it, it's a clearly civilian-derived design modified for racing
>Dragon bird is kinda lame. I remember watching the show and thinking “yeah this just looks like a normal car”
The Duality of man
Dragon Bird looks like a hovercraft sans the fan. Schneider may be too sleek and organic compared to the rest of the roster, but that at least works since it's meant to be a Bad Guy supervillain car. Dragon Bird is very, very generic.
Dragon bird is kinda lame. I remember watching the show and thinking “yeah this just looks like a normal car” which is the point I guess but it’s just a step above the Crazy Bear for me.
I have never lost against m2k.

>S rank
>only 11 wins
I'm in A with 0. Blue Falcon main.
Stop hitting walls and bumpers. That's all you need to win.
I'm not hitting walls and bumpers.
You also need to drive fast.
I'm S with 3 wins
Stop playing safe and try having some fun. It's just a game, bro.
I'm not playing safe, I die all the time. I just suck at dodging bumpers
I am positively surprised this game is still going very strong. I know it hasn't been too long but still. And new maps haven't even released yet.
It's fun, addictive, and free.
wait double KO means both machines died?
Yes and you get a badge for that.
I don’t understand stand the Goose at all. I’m smacking people around but I never seem to get KOs with it. Maybe I’m using my boosts at the wrong time and should wait until later in the lap? But by then I’ve got a full yellow bar and it just forces me to the skyway
k kvm I just got a win. That makes all four machines lel.
I did it Ganker
I've become a boogeyman
99+ wins S3
And I still can't get that kill 5 people badge.
Yes I know about grey bumpers counting.
Tell Nintendo to make a cup for your kind so the rest of us have a chance.
Good job!
>kill 5 people badge
The easiest way to get it is as Goose on Port Town. It's the weekend so now's your best chance.
I still haven't won one (1) race
I haven't even won a single race and got that 5 kill badge on day 1.
I still need double KO (KO'ing someone and simultaneously being KO'd by them) and the safe rank one which I think I'm too good to ever get
what's your main machine?
What's the difference between grey and red machines? The second ones explode?
How do you identify machines controlled by humans after they were KO?
Grey and Red Bumpers are CPU controlled (and yes, the red ones explode when you either drive into them or pass close by them), and the Blue ones are player controlled. If you look you can see player names above them.
Red explode and don’t give you any boost bar extension. Greys extend your bar and give you back smidge of energy back. Human controlled are blue
The blue "lucky" bumpers are exclusively player controlled. They have nametags letting you know it's a player, unlike the gray or red ones.
>try turning and strafing the opposite ways
>doesn't slide like in x
>doesn't mts like in gx
>doesn't crab like in redout
>doesn't stabilize the ship like rear brake on motorcycle like in wipeout
>literally just cancels the strafe input altogether
Nintendo really needs to do something to make this game approachable for anyone but autists anymore.
all you have to do is drive well
i got wins on every track except silence by just cleanly driving my stingray
It's worth remembering that there's people out there who've been playing the SNES version for decades. You are pinballed around far less in 99 than in the original, so combine that with track knowledge, car knowledge and the new boost mechanics and it's no wonder some racers are fricking monsters.
That said, I WOULD appreciate a way to filter out those at the uppermost skill level. Something like:
>Congratulations! You're now eligible for the EXPERT CUP. Race in Grand Prix gauntlets against the best of the best and prove yourself and F-Zero legend.
I'm confident they will add an expert league like they did with tetris maximus
>Get fricked early in team battle
>Get to be a bumper
>Realize I get to be a bumper for the whole race
>mfw I get to be a huge dick all race ong
>Spend the whole race being a dick to Pink gays
>KO two racers
>get like 200+ points
Do KO's as bumpers count towards Power meter extension?
Maybe I should crash out early in team battle more, lol.
>Do KO's as bumpers count towards Power meter extension?
What power meter? You’re a bumper.
In Team Battle KOs will increase the Power Meter for your entire Team.
>playing team battle with Golden Fox
>not good with this car at all but want the color
>eat shit early on and feel like I let the team down
>oh, my lucky bumper
>get 3 KOs and our team wins
feels good man
>Boy I can't wait for Queen's Cup to drop!
Here are two pieces of advice that will instantly help you improve:
1. Learn when and where to boost on each track
2. Stop panic-boosting
Congrats, you're now better than like 80% of the people playing this game.
>when and where to boost on each track
So when and where is it?
There's no single answer to that question.
It depends on your machine, on the track, and on you.
Experiment. Figure things out. I would suggest limiting yourself to one/two boosts per lap and see where that takes you.
Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City Frick Mute City
Can you blast turn while holding a shoulder button, or does that just cause you to slide?
>get first place in team battle
>it doesn't count for 'get first place in a f-zero 99 race'
fricking lame.
But it should put a win on your player card.
it did, but it's still lame.
I know, but I keep getting fricked on those because nobody likes death wind or sand ocean.
Well yeah, F-Zero 99 races are a mode.
They never did say when the next courses are coming, did they? Saw people saying it was after this weekend, with no source as usual
Nintendo's Japanese website.
>late september
So September 32nd then. Okay, thanks anon.
And as per the achievements there will be 15 courses, so we got a bit less than half of them now.
'ate bumbers
luv being one
simple as that
>you have to lose to hear the best soundtrack in the game
I was so happy the first time I became the bumper
For some reason, the Lucky Bumper theme reminds me of You Ran (not the actual name of the song, no one knows the real name):
>become a bumper on death wind
>100+ points
>get multiple kills
Just got done cucking gasthejews from his 1000th Mute Shitty win
>managed to get all the easier skins and the decal from silence with all the machines but golden fox
>Try driving that thing after not touching It the entire time
>Suddenly do worse then ever, struggling to keep up having to save boosts because other wisw I would be dead
I thought this machine was easy, why am I feeling like a total shitter driving that thing around?
It's like a greased bar of soap with awful top speed, but it's got stellar recovery and acceleration.
Because it’s not easy. Goose is the real tardmobile.
How do I kill Black folk?
Home in on smoke?
I've been in like full 10 races and only managed to kill 3 people and all of them were accidental.
I've come to accept the fact that I am never ever ever ever ever going to unlock Silence or rank in the top 5
you will with enough practice, i have the reaction speed of an OAP and i managed it eventually
>lucky bumper ruined my gp for the third time in a row
Im so shit at this game that I mostly give it a token effort and then ruin people's lives as the lucky bumper. There is no better feeling
I have the feeling one of you fricks would use this name so if CHADFalcon is here, tough luck gay, the other Level 18 Falcon who was tying me also died, I won with 966 points and a 66 points lead.
Truly a beautiful scam.
I played the OG F-Zero on an emu and holy shit Death Wind's wind in 99 is limp dick in comparison. More like Death Fart.
>tfw just realised different vehicles have different boost start timings
>Goose is just any time after the third dot
>do that with Fox and you get a flameout
>Fox needs to start right before the Go
It's tied to each car's acceleration stat.
You'll get used to it, think of it like a rhythm game.
Good post.
I think you misunderstood me. I was talking about 99 leading to a brand new game, not a 99 version of X or GX.
x or gx would simply be better with a '30' version. the game is designed with it in mind, afterall.
I have played 3-player splitscreen in GX. When you get 3 people MTS-ing the same corner, you intersect more often than not, especially when you're using different machines. I can't even imagine the shitshow that would be 30-person snaking (all my homies are too straight for snaking so we haven't tried it).
not my problem
t. Hyper Speeder fan who gets no extra speed from MTS
Yeah I’m just saying, it’s not really about the number of players, you’d have these issues even racing against one other person.
Futuristic racing games are a niche within a retro niche, they will never truly be popular. Most people dont like racing games, even fewer like the idea of AG cars and even fewer want to play them online. This is doing well because its free and is basically mario kart with a trendy twist. If we ever get a new game I fear it'll take more design inspiration from fall guys than GX.
what the frick is his problem?
do you think norio wakamoto would be willing to voice black shadow again? man is a great grandpa but he still came back to do johnny in strive
I don't see why not, providing he can still do the voice. These seiyuu keep going till they drop.
The feeling of winning an F-Zero 99 must be similar to the feeling of when me as a sperm fertilized my moms egg.
I rank out in Death Wind GP every. single. time.
I'm getting frustrated and am losing faith in the Falcon. I can't find a way to consistently do well in Mute City or Big Blue, therefore I can't see me winning a GP with it (knight, at least)
if I get shoved to the rough one single time I know it's over for me
Are we getting new tracks tonight?
Two more weeks sister
Trust the plan
CAAAAPTAIN FALCON WILL SOMETIMES PREVAIL
Damn, go back to the SNES F-Zero if you really want some mind frick. The draw distance, physics, controls and graphical quality is so radically different from 99.
Every time I start near a fox player, I will ALWAYS fail my starting boost so I can strafe in front of you and ruin your gameplan.
>last race of Grand Prix on Silence
>Just me, a Fox, and a Blue Falcon frontrunning the entire race and constantly overtaking each other
>Goose player
>Spot someone start smoking, they move towards the edge of the track to try and avoid other people
>I turn 90 degrees to spin and boost into them and kill them
There's nothing funnier than witnessing a Goose player go full kamikaze mode and fly off the track to murder someone.
I've seen it twice so far and I really wish I recorded them.
record it after the fact, I think if you hold the home button it records the last 30 seconds of footage?
I know about that, I just tend to forget about the function in the moment so I always miss clipping funny shit because I'm too busy laughing.
>I turn 90 degrees to try and spin and boost into them and get total fricked
ftfy, nothing funnier than evading Goosefrickers and them face planting the wall. Sometimes I even boost when I see a Goosefricker to get some smoke on me. It's like a red blanket before a bull.
If you're smoking and I force you to boost out of the way, then you're dead anyways by the next person coming up the way.
I don't need a boost to evade you chimping tards.
when are they gonna add the announcer from X?

>just never touch another player
>just never use boost
>just never not be in the lead
>just never have to dodge bumpers
Perfect time trial machine.
You don’t even get slowed down by the pack unless they smack you
Not just that but you usually get sped up by getting hit from behind as long as you don't spin.
>just never make a sharp turn
it's the best at sharp turns tho
and it can afford to go through mud so it's a bit of an suv in terms of lines it can take
and it's an underrated ko machine because of its handling, it can pick up kills that geese and foxes can't because they can't reach the smoker safely without compromising their racing line
yes, you get two boosts per race if you gun it, three if you lift and coast on recharge pad (you'll drop to 420 and stay around there, then get on throttle and you'll quickly climb back to 478), but you barely get any speedier from using it than from just cruising at top speed anyway
just stay a bit off the racing line, you're very flexible with how you can take corners compared to other machines
Just won a Prix on the John AMA
Did your legs go numb?
No but I really had to shit at the end of it
I ain’t shaving!
I killed this golden stingray in sand ocean and it caused be to go in pissed rage. Literally.

>death wind 2 is going to murder everybody and it'll never be willingly picked
>port town 2 we know
>red canyon 2 probably easier than the first
>fire field will be the first one where it'll probably really matter on your boost timing/usage since the recharge pad is off to the side
on a side note the tracks were notably narrower, or that's how it felt anyway.
>hit up f-zero snes rom to get a refresher on old tracks
You know you have acces to F-Zero from Switch online, right?
that requires the expansion pass, no? that and I already have the roms, and it lets me use savestate and fast forward.
No it doesn't. The SNES emulator on NSO also has savestates and rewind.
ah, I wasn't aware. I thought nso+ locked all the emulation stuff, not just gba/genesis/n64. I'm half tempted to buy one of the snes/n64 controllers regardless, but frick the genesis controller because it's a mark 1 3 button not a mark 2 6 button.

I’m Blue Falcon btw, idk if that matters.
What's the optimal way to take a turn in a Falcon?
Just let go of B and tilt the stick?
Let go and also hold L/R in the direction I'm turning?
You can do blast turning with him too.
I don't know what that is.
Tap B while turning and you hold more speed while going through turns.
thanks doc
The Golden Fox looks so cool with some of the options.
No I haven't seen any of the Falcon options
the fox will always look gay because people can see you're using the fox
>No I haven't seen any of the Falcon options
You tell me the dark blue falcon with the orange glass isn't the sickest shit ever.
That green falcon with the orange glass on the bottom row is cool.
For me, the blue falcon has to stay blue though so I agree with you
Haven’t had a double KO happen to me
i am very good at this video game
practice mode it is
Which palette is the white blue pink for Stingray? Don't tell me it's GP victory. I've come in top 5 before but I don't think it's realistically possible now, too many foxes around to place high on Mute City.
>Golden Fox
Almost got 3rd on silence but then hit a bomb car
Ahaaaaahhhhhh
>1st on Silence
>12th overall
I was in the zone, just not soon enough
There's 7 tracks in the game, you can map out when to boost. Be sure to keep some energy left over for insurance too
I feel like more of a glass cannon with Stingray.
I did not know his acceptance was faster that low. I will try slowing in the pit, then
recharge is based on time spent on the pad, not distance
skyway pads are longer so you can get a really big recharge if you get off the throttle there while not dropping below cruise speed, useful when you skyway to save yourself from power down
so how many tickets are people hoarding for... whatever the hell they feel like hoarding them for?
I'm sitting on about 50 right now simply because I have no desire to even play Grand Prix
this but unironically, if Grand Prix wasn't literally the only way to race on Silence I wouldn't have any interest in ever doing them
Hoarding?
I'm always low on tickets because I enter every GP I can
I want my damn skins
Right now I'm at 15 or so I think. I'll try to get a normal win with Blue Falcon or maybe e30 or so before hitting the GPs again.
What are the chances of them adding cars and tracks beyond the original F-Zero? At least stuff from Maximum Velocity, GP Legend and Climax?
Probably minimal. There's been some data mining, but it's all incomplete and lumped together with unused assets. I'd love for them to just take tracks from the other 2D games.
Common sense would suggest that they would at least add the BS F-Zero ships, but it's Nintendo, so who knows
It’s hard enough for new players to differentiate rear views of 4 ships with hundreds of paint job combinations
how long until people get bored of this and threads die and it becomes impossible to ever talk about this game again
7 days
I can appreciate things in the moment. Time spent enjoying things isn't yime wasted. Nothing lasts forever..
>42 days, 3 hours, 4 minutes, and 12 seconds
Threads will die down for sure - we've had back-to-back threads for a week straight - but it'd be nice to have semi-regular discussion.
It might make sense to let it lie low for a bit until the new cup. No point in bumping a lifeless thread all the time, but this would not do well in generals either.
When every Falcon main finally gets a win.
When the new tracks drop and bumlets have to turn.

wild goose has a funny face on the front
Golden Fox is sleek as hell wtf
No, he's right.
Casually tanking a bomb feels better than avoiding them sometimes
Ayup
Won with falcon, he's pretty fun jack-of-all trades. Adaptable, easy to kill with but also easy to get killed with. Blue Falcon's best trait is the control, his vehicle feels the best to turn with even if you can get bumped around. It's a vehicle the rewards proficiency similar to the fire stingray.
Anyone else just can't see a bumper in the middle of the pack and lose all their health in 5 seconds because you thought you where boosting though a Blue colored player?
it can be easy to lose track of them amid a lot of players, yeah
Outing myself here but I feel like I do a lot better at this game without my adderall. Both my GP wins were when I didn't take it.
Tips for Fire Stingray? Really enjoying it, but I struggle to make it through a Grand Prix. Feels like if I fall behind at all I'm fricked, because I need to boost to stay out of the elimination range, and then I have no energy so I die.
boost at the start into the pit, boost once more per lap after that. git luck.
I usually get eliminated on Death Wind, where there's no pit at the start.
death wind is the easiest one to not die on as stingray imo. once you hit the start line, don't boost (unless gp and you've got a ko buffer) until you hit the 3 rough pads. boost straight through them, and use l/r strafing to help keep yourself in position for the boost pads. a notable point is that the rough pads and boost pads (and recharge pad, too I think?) are unaffected by wind, so dont overcompensate while going through/using them. use any super boost you have after the boost panel before the finish line, as there are 3 boosters on the skyway.
That's how I usually play it, yeah. But with how narrow the roads are, usually some sort of tragedy happens that forces me to use a boost, and then it feels like a major uphill battle to maintain a decent position without dipping into the red.
>narrow
go play the snes one and then say that. the tracks in 99 are wide as hell by comparison.
Just started the GP. Three kills on Mute City I.
BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOOSE
My rival is level 100 and has the coolest border ever
>Special Event: Team Battle
I hate bumpers. If I ever see a bumper in real life, it's fricking done for.
Does this reset when the leaderboard resets or nah?
nah
Good
>tfw it's just gonna be at the end of queens league so only 20 racers at a time
Don't worry, it will be added as a "Pro" track, so people get to unlock it if they can't get to the finals for a GP. You'll experience the absolute clusterfrick chaos that will be 20 racers crashing out at the same time because of spins pushing them JUST far back enough to miss the jump pad on the other side. Remember people, if you think you have enough speed, save your spin to just before the end, you'll get a ton of KOs.
remember to hold back to extend your jump distance or you'll just dunk it anyway.

That's pretty normal anon. Players are really good. I'm S- and my highest placement is still 2nd.
What machine did you use?
I only get constant <25 places with Wild Goose
My second place was with Falcon. I've since become a reformed Stingray player with several half-a-second-from-first close calls.

Did they fix the screen burn-in thing of this game yet? I don't want to damage my monitor playing this.
if you get burn-in your screen sucks
It's happening on both my monitor and my undocked switch though.
it's not burn-in, it's artifacting
Boosto... FAIYAHH!
>FURU POWAH!
if they re-released it on bd i'd buy it.
jesus christ how terrifying
nah, it's not really that much more of a shortcut than usual.
>just rewatched FALCON PUUUUNCH
>end scene of the anime (and opening scene) has lap 1 boosting
clearly they lifted it from there.
it does seem to have limited use, but it's very visually dramatic. especially taking off into the skyway mid skip
Also my gripe is how do yo do the skip without the course correction detecting you? With and without super boost.
Imagine how confused the guy he lapped was when red bumpers started pouring out of the sky
beeftwerky in here?
Do grey bumper kills carry into the next race?
In a GP or Mini Prix? Yes.
yes
So there is no actual badge for getting 1st place once? The "1st" badge you see is actually from reaching the starting line first?
Are we sure boosting through the decelerating floor on Mute City I is objectively better than just avoiding it and retaining speed?
it's probably not, since unlike the snes version where you ignore floor effects when boosting, you still get affected in 99. but that raises the followup question: if not there, then where?
>Trying to unlock colors on my neglected machines
>Wanna try out Stingray
>Supposedly the "Time Trials" machine.
>Can't even begin to match my Goose times
>Can't get frontrunner in 99
>Can't really brawl
>Speed is its best trait but I can barely get any in bumper car city
>Finish 25th-30th each race.
How the frick do I Stingray? Holy shit this feels bad.
Please tell me you’re boosting off the line at the start and not just waiting for your godawful acceleration to build.
Yes I do, and I get a boosting start. But I just can't use Stingray effectively.
FRICK the red bumpers on silence and big blue but mostly silence biggest trolls in the game
1. This is everything I wanted F-Zero to be in 1991.
2. This is the best F-Zero game ever.
3. This is the best most hectic racing game ever
Man, I can consistently stay in the Top 10 during the GP except for Big Blue, I have no idea what's up with that track that always drops me below the 20th position.
Why am I getting so many goddamn disconnects today?
Just played one of the names I saw ITT on a Big Blue race right now
Got 6th I didn't pay attention to what happened to you
No one hops into the wienerpit of the Blue Falcon to be a driver... They do it because they're driven.
>got a win with every car
>got every color for pico with a grand prix win under my belt
>nintendo online 7 day trial running out soon
Think I'll leave it at that.
I would've bought it and played it more but I'm not gonna pay Nintendo to use my own internet on principle alone.
>almost win sand ocean with falcon in GP
>hit an explody bumper very last turn and ruin it
I think I can win with falcon in GP if I jsut fricking DODGE these bumpers they're fricking everywehre on the tracks with turns and I'm watching the falcon that overtook me after I died (we were top 2 in the GP and rivals) be in like 6th on death wind and he's like me Mordecai I am you but falcon is really good for these tracks yeah if someone says falcon sucks they just play on 99 mode it's fricking good on sand ocean (which is in 99 yeah but it's the only track there that has real turns), silence, port town, white land, yeah yeah falcon bros i get you but red bumbers scare me. also mordecai is in first on silence rn lap 4 I think he's gonna do it he was scared too he just did it. He won. Mordecai won the pre with a pink falcon. proud of you bro don't forget i paced the way to your victory
>wait 20 years for F-Zero news
>F-Zero 99
>all the loser morons who didnt give a frick about F-Zero are sucking fat F-Zero 99 Flavor of the Month wiener

It's painful
>Piss and moan and seethe about it because he can't just enjoy games.
I'm going to crush your head with a rock
Feel free to sit in the corner and cry while the rest of us have fun, or.. you know, get over yourself.
I’m a longtime F-zero fan and this is honestly my joint favourite along with X.
Ignore acgay
>try out Fire Stingray for the fist time
>get obliterated twice in a row
Stop boosting. Just... don't do it.
But boosting is so fun.
play the other vehicles then
Stingray can only boost four times per energy bar, you're not supposed to be boosting with it, you're supposed to learn the tracks optimally with its superior speed and grip.
It's the most difficult machine for sure. One notable frickup and your chances of winning are basically gone.
