I think a less conventionally attractive character works if it fits the tone of the story, the setting or the themes, or if the character is just a copy of the real life voice actor. People complained about Abby in tlou2 looking too ugly or too muscular but I think that fits the setting of tlou well. Obviously if you have a cute, vibrant girl in this apocalypse they'd stand out way too much, and having cute design wouldn't fit them as a character very well (them being a violent killer). But apart from that, there isn't really anything wrong with a cute character design, as long as it isn't exploitative, fits the character and is well designed then its fine. I think Aloy's redesign in Horizon Forbidden West is bad because the world of Horizon isn't as gritty as tlou and the game doesn't really challenge her morals or paint her as a dark and complex characer, so a cute and well crafted character design would fit better. This goes for male character designs as well, a lot 7th generation male game protagonists blend together as just serious white man with beard rather than something cute or cool or unique

I expect the game to be trash, and I expect that I will never play a single second of it.
My wish would be that after the game flops like Fable 3 did, all of the developers will never find a job in the field again. Especially the loud troony one.
My fear would be that I would install and launch this game by accident.
The trailer would be significantly funnier if Richard Ayode was suddenly trying to kill a small peasant boy that just appeared in the scene. You would understand this is literally the Giant from Jack and the Beanstalk, and this soft spoken man really is immediately trying to murder a tiny child.
The gag at the end with the broken glasses is instantly funnier when you realise this seemingly unarmed boy has succesfully slain Moss from the IT Crowd.
Instead the joke is not instantly recognisable and is muddied by the weird ugly diversity woman. Is she a version of a folklore character? A side character in the game? Is she the protagonist? Custom, set? What's happening?
Cut to her sitting smugly on the giant's glasses, making it a cringe-inducing brown "girlboss" moment. An aggressively current and modern marketer's idea of what people think is appealing.
Instead of being a funny parody to sell the spirit of the game, it's confusing slop. People still don't know what the game is about. Is it going to be more focused on being "cool" and "modern" instead of silly? Are the features from Fable 1 of aesthetic character progression? What is Fable about?
