If you don't like that play an ironman. Game doesn't force you to use the GE, but you are right for the most part.

It's a huge design limitation the game still carries with it. I could functionally have maxed a skill at 99 or 120 over twenty years ago and had zero incentive to gain more exp in it to date. They should just have switched to some sort of branching skill tree that they can add to.

they're similar in in that they're both very grindy, but Warframe has great gameplay, that's pretty much it
its rs except instead of afking your grinds you have to play
unless you use Chinese macros
warframe is a little better in terms of F2P because paying for plat is way easier than affording a bond
and plat requirements are one-time purchases rather than having to bleed 10m on bonds every week because jagex doesn't understand how to make money in 2024

i recently tried out WoW classic and it made me realize why people enjoy themepark MMOs
but ive never been able to see the appeal of sanbox mmos. just alot of grinding it sees like.
