I don't see how they could possibly make a sequel to Tokyo Xanadu unless it's about Adult now-secret society employed Kou dealing with supernatural problems all over
Yeah, I didn't see much from the Japanese fanbase. It was kind of weird, honestly, usually there's SOME talk at least.
Given how shit Monstrum Nox was maybe just nobody cared.
I mean, there was a pretty clear shift in quality starting with cold steel
It became less a epic tale and more of a shitty battle harem light novel in game format
And then they brought the same writing philosphy to Ys in 9. 8 was the last one that actually felt well-written.
the problem with ys 8 and 9 is not the writing, all ys games have shit writing and characters.
its the gameplay. it's so bland and it has no identity and its all quantity over quality. a game like felghana only has like 14 bosses but they're all distinct from eachother but the new games have like 50 bosses that all pretty much play exactly the same as eachother thanks to the flash system. skills are just big aoes that you spam and they have no real interactivity between eachother or non-damage purpose so you just feel like you're playing some generic musou as you mow down 1000 enemies per screen. in the older games you had less abilities but they each had a clear defined role in what they were used for. i honestly don't get how people praise the gameplay in the new games it's so unsatisfying and boring.

When will you oathbabies frick off? Series left you in the dust a long time ago, no one gives a shit, except a few of you autist who have to present in every ys thread

anon, falcom simply has a few dedicated schizos who spam every single thread involving their games.

>NOOOOO YOU CAN'T HOLD FALCOM TO STANDARDS REEEEE
That's why they're dying.
Nox felt like somebody on the key staff wanted to use their rejected trails of concept. The trailisms are so apparent it's like tonal whiplash for ys. Only the (real) adol moments are like "look we didn't forget about ys! Have this tacked on prison segment every now and then with traps"
>only gets better as it goes
It started strong with the castaway angle, but the community building aspect ended up being terrible. Then it just gives up and devolves into "muh evolution" garbage. Sahad and Ricotta are also just not fun to play as at all.
7 and 9 are tedious after a while (especially 7), but 8 starts strong before failing to live up to its promise, which is way worse in my eyes.
No. 8 was good throughout and never shat itself. Meanwhile, Nox's twist was bullshit and I hated almost every single character through the entire game.
8 starts out as a comfy lost island adventure and then turns into mass effect at the end i hated it more the longer it went on

I agree with this
Island was fun
Flashback + alien wank is moronic

Yeah if everything in VIII had just built up to you fighting the big Kraken at the end and escaping the game would have been awesome. Unfortunately Japs can't help themselves so every game has to endlessly escalate until you fight some god being and save the entirety of existence.

I disagree. A lot of the problems also came from area design and mechanics. The game should have had fewer dungeons, but made them more complicated. It also should have condensed the island a bit in order to make discoveries more meaningful. The combat should have been refined a bit and the village needed better interactivity than just repelling raids and doing a few quests.

I think either could have worked better without the other, honestly. Adol and Castaways escaping dinosaur island, or the whole Eternia/Lacrimosa stuff. Though I dislike the latter because it's just a retread of Seven.
But then they did both, and also threw in a ghost ship along the way because, why not, and Sahad needs to have an ancestor, I guess.
It's a prequel set smack dab between a small event of dogi/adols past, pretty much nothing happens in it that you wouldn't have already gleamed playing the other ys games. Falcom's obvious cash grab to keep funding the Kiseki games
Yeah, I didn't see much from the Japanese fanbase. It was kind of weird, honestly, usually there's SOME talk at least.

It's pretty much another party Ys game. Nothing spectacular/groundbreaking about it. The changes to the combat were not the shakeup I had hoped them to be.
And Ys IX was liked in Japan, relatively speaking, so that couldn't be the reason they didn't care. Saleswise, it did as well as the previous games in the first week, though spread across more systems.
I mean, in terms of how it plays. The fact that there are only 2 playable characters instead of having 3 out of 6 at a time doesn't change very much about that.
I thought it was boring honestly. Viking shit is just so overdone and the Ys take on it is of course as generic as it gets, the combat was changed but it still feels spammy and boring like it does in the party games and it's way too easy to avoid damage, the hoverboard shit was stupid and the sailing mechanic is one of the most god awful things Falcom has ever put into one of thier games. The OST was pretty bad too but at this point all their games have medciore OSTs now and have for years. This is probably the last one i'll play.
>10
wowee zowee what could it possibly be
It's 55
>eyes
>10
Still think it's possible this is entirely unrelated because that's not how you pronounce "Ys".
So a Ys 5 remake?
Yes, one by Tonkin House and one by Hudson.
And of course, NISA would announce both of them before Falcom.
You think a NISA intern knows that?
They are making a Traveller gamr
Finally. Hopefully it's no later than spring or early summer since it's a sailing game.
Ys 10 English announcement
Eyes > 10 > NiSA America
That's the reasonable explanation here
Tokyo Xanadu 10 X Plus
Trust the plan
I don't see how they could possibly make a sequel to Tokyo Xanadu unless it's about Adult now-secret society employed Kou dealing with supernatural problems all over
Prequel sequel time loop
its obviously ys 10 but after how bad the last few ys games have been i just dont care anymore
Heard Ys10 just came and went, nobody cared much

Even japs have given up on falcom. Kiseki is flopping and now Ys too. The quality of all their games have been steadily declining for years
I mean, there was a pretty clear shift in quality starting with cold steel

Too many games nowadays, can't blame the fanbase, they can only endure so much
Nox was better than Dana. Dana just makes a better first impression before shitting itself.
Ys VIII only gets better as it goes on and keeps opening up, IX is a repetitive slog from start to finish.
Nox felt like somebody on the key staff wanted to use their rejected trails of concept. The trailisms are so apparent it's like tonal whiplash for ys. Only the (real) adol moments are like "look we didn't forget about ys! Have this tacked on prison segment every now and then with traps"

The ending of 8 is the one of the most utterly moronic things ever put into a JRPG
You haven't played nearly enough JRPGs then, because that's in no way anywhere near the most utterly moronic you can get.
8 starts out as a comfy lost island adventure and then turns into mass effect at the end i hated it more the longer it went on

There's no party, you only control Adol and the game's female protagonist.

Ys 5 remake
Wait, do you pronounce "Ys" like "eyes"?? I pronounce it like "ees"
I pronounce it as "yis"
It's just typical NISA in-joke stuff
Sweet, i always like forward to a new ys game
