They're a low budget company specifically because of a long history of bad decisions that cost them a lot of senior staff. They make decisions that don't kill them outright, but that doesn't make them good decisions.
They don't invest any of the money they make back into the company. It's why every game perpetually looks and plays two generations behind and why their once legendary music which was 90% of why they once had a following to begin with has gotten shittier with every game.

Xanadu Next sold like shit even back in the day, and it doesn't need a sequel regardless. Brandish 1's remake also flopped (for different reasons). Even in the 90s they were struggling to sell Brandish 3 and VT.
It's fine if they don't want to make sequels to their old games, but they really need to diversify their output at bare minimum. Making old games readily available and promoting them within the fanbase would also help.

The DLC turned main game content where you flash back to Dana and play her and two of her forms in a dungeon, all sharing the same 4 abilities but each form having a variant of that ability, as well as it's own movement/puzzle gimmicks, damage types and attack moveset, that's some good shit and I really wish they'd make more of that instead.

Brandish 4 had five entire years of work that the group never published publicly for God knows what reason. The team behind Brandish 2 announced they were working on 3 about a year and a half ago. The gameplay in both versions is awful. The presentation is superior on PC-98 and PSP 4 is based on Windows 4, not PC-98 4, which is an entirely different game.
I'd take manual interruptions to LoH3 and LoH4's janky pseudo-RTWP combat to the awful AI behavior sliders in the PC-98 versions any day of the week. Besides that, neither version looks particularly great. The PC-98 versions don't exactly have VN-tier art in them or anything.
If I want better gameplay, I have the PSP versions. Why play the Windows version over that if it has inferior art/presentation to the original but worse gameplay than NEC? Even moreso for 4, where the entire structure of the game is fundamentally different? Why would I want to see a translation of an already translated game instead of an untranslated one?

The PSP versions' gameplay is dollar store Lunar. It's way worse than the gameplay on the Windows ports. At least those kept things like the magic shops and didn't tack on some worthless pet system.
The overall point is that Gagbarf kind of sucks as a series. LoH1 and LoH2 were somewhat generic, but decent turn-based JRPGs for the early 90s. Gagharv were crappy experiments produced by a team of newbies after Falcom lost most of their star developers.

Yeah, so translate the originals instead of moronic intermediary versions. There's little value in Windows 3 and practically none in Windows 4. PC-98 4 is at least a different fricking game.
The PC-98 version is actively disliked by even old school LoH fans. That's why it got totally reworked for the Windows port. It's a lousy semi-open world grandest where you can you're locked into one Adventurer's Guild quest at a time and have no idea which ones advance the story.
