Much in the way that the great plains Indians used to roam the nation, many communities who've devolved into a tribal state have managed to walk much in the same way that the Nation's former inhabitants have. A loose collective, the closest thing they have to a leader "The Great Shaman" has called forth the ultimate spirit dance that has sent the tribal nation's members into a blood crazy frenzy bold enough to slaughter settlements and outposts, holdouts of the former civilization.

The game just winds up being Fallout Blood Meridian.

Warring tribes. While not the cause of the war, the main objective is a pre war nuclear arsenal. Each tribe could have their own plans for the nukes. One tribe might think possessing them is enough of a deterrent to end the war. One tribe might want to use one as an example, Hiroshima style. One tribe might want to wipe the others off the map.
It's up to you to choose a side, or take the nukes for yourself and use them as you see fit

The main character is a Ghoul. The starting town is random. The main antagonists run on the 'nemesis system' from Shadows of Mordor. The game is in Survival Mode by default, the only other option is 'Im A Pussy Mode' inspired by the original Doom, it would insult players for picking it. Personally I would call it Cuck Mode, but that probably wont do in current year.

Kino. It should start out with it initially looking like another weird raider faction in the background, who have this weird fricking cult thing going on where they worship a nonsense god and make offerings to it but the god is real and the offerings is just them literally feeding it. They are initially not seen as much as a threat until their faith starts spreading through every major faction, with the faith actually just being the mindcontrol spores that make people hear the voice of the god in their heads. Of course the player gets infected too and you start seeing and hearing weird shit and you can have conversations with the voice in your head, like he just pops up out of nowhere sometimes like Scorpius in Farscape.

I'm more interested in what time period they're going to invoke. I'm not talking about the typical retro future stuff either. NV was clearly invoking the wild west and 4 was invoking the revolutionary period. I'm guessing 76 was doing a colonial thing, but I never played it. I'm not entirely sure about 3 but I'd guess it was WW2 based on all the entrenchment and sandbag fortifications in the bombed out city, as well as the old aircraft carrier

    Alright:
    >Setting:
Set in the barren plains of what was once the Midwestern united states, what was once lush crop land has been reduced to barren patches of dust-choked grass, scattered patches of trees and sickly woodlands, and over grown by a mutated form of kudzu called "Snarl-Grass", which saps HP and reduces movement in it, requiring special equipment, armor, or a means of transportation in order to be safely navigated(Acts as a Progression lock).
    >Character
You have a choice of either starting as a regular Wastelander or as a member of an Amer-Indian reservation, you learn some tutorial stuff while growing up, making memories, that sort of thing, differing depending on your character origin, but basically the same stuff either way.
One day, your town/village is attacked, wiping almost everyone except your character out, when you awaken again, you discover yourself in a vault, learning you were rescued by a convoy sent by the vault to trade with your town/village.
Eventually, you meet with the Overseer/Chief of Security of the vault, who tells you that in return for staying in the vault, you will receive a proper education, food and training(It's implied their having a population problem and want some "fresh" blood to stop a looming crisis).
Next section is learning various skills from a collection of characters living in the vault, receiving proper fire-arms training, going to classes and learning stuff while making friends, and learning about old-world technology and receiving a functioning pip-boy.
Eventually though, you learn from overheard communications/refugees like yourself brought into the vault that there have been further attacks like what happened to your town/village, which ignites a desire for revenge in you, so you approach the overseer/chief of security with plans to leave the vault and get revenge, they resist at first, but eventually agree, saying they had thought this would occur eventually, and give you supplies

(It's implied that between regular trading with the outside world, and the introduction of other survivors/refugees to the vault population, the crisis had been averted some years before).

      >Enemies/Big bad
As you explore the wastes, you find several villages/town in ruins, all have been marked with a strange symbol consisting of a half-sun/half-skull put together side by side, this is the mark of the "Children of the Sun", a large faction with a quasi-religous doctrine that while started small, suddenly swelled in numbers, growing bolder in their attacks, going after not just the established towns and villages and caravans that regularly crossed the wastes, but the other tribal/raider groups that made the area their home, royally pissing them off in the process.

                Anonymous

It's not about a connection. It's a completely rehashed idea, that's what we were arguing about

                Anonymous

What's the rehashed idea? Is that what Autumn leaves is about? I've played Fallout 3 but it was along time ago and I never engaged with anything past the base game (no dlc, no mods).
I have played Fallout 4 including Far Harbor.
I'm just asking because I don't actually know what this Fallout 3 stuff is.

                Anonymous

Autumn leaves is a quest dlc for Fallout New Vegas, it came out some time BEFORE far harbor was released and there is a SHOCKING amount of similarities between it and the quest "Brain Dead" in Far Harbor. Far too many to be a coincidence. There are differences but it really feels like the devs played it, loved it and then made their own "30% different so it's okay" version.
So again, a rehashed idea they didn't come up with.

As for the other thing; there was dlc called Point Lookout that dealt with spooky shit along a dark coastline. There were a lot of swamps and mirelurks and crazy natives and then there's a small sci-fi tilt.
If any of that sounds like far harbor, that's because Bethesda rehashed Point lookout to make far harbor. No in fairness Point lookout isn't a blatant rehash of anything from earlier fallouts, but it is basically shallow trope after shallow trope smushed together. Not to mention a decent number of things from the main game just now in the swamp so it's different.

My original joke, which is all it was, is at the expense of Bethesda, particularly modern Bethesda, being creatively bankrupt and incapable of original ideas. The other Anon took umbrage with that complete accurate observation and out Far Harbor up as a counterpoint when it itself is basically a Point Lookout 2.0.

    >People are taught about science and engineering and shit, anyone who isn't good at it is streamlined into other vault life
    >Those who show promise are trained by older residents in the theory of rocket-design and shit
    >The Vault's overall goal is to launch a satellite with data into orbit so they can be taken off the planet to live on the space station
    >Parts for the satellite never made it to the vault due to the nukes
    >The dwellers are unaware of this and assume they must improvise
    >Parts of the vault are massively deconstructed, the "rocket" has a cult like following at this point
    >The rocket is of utmost importance to the people, the future of the vault dwellers depends on it
    >There have been several botched launch attempts for tests
    >Less important people (cooks/teachers/untalented children) chosen as "Pioneers" and placed in the ships
    >Usually assumed dead
    >Over time a small group of people secretly begin to resent the program due to secret readings taken from previously hidden means of measuring the outside world, which were revealed during deconstruction for rocket parts
    >Plans to leave the vault emerge
    >Protagonist is a builder in the vault, helping deconstruct unnecessary rooms for parts
    >Chosen as a pioneer
    >Refuse, fight your way out
    >Your friend (not-amata) is captured and forced into the ship which launches
    >Leave Vault and the door closes behind you

      >Occupied some old warehouse or airfield or something to build a giant rocket to take them to space
      >They are violent toward anyone who enters their home, and often attack settlements for their scrap. They'll attack you if you have any tech gear on you
      >There's an option to join/aid them steal an essential part for their ship (air/water purifier I dunno whatever) from the Vault you emerged from
      >Quest involves either forcing everyone in the vault to leave or locking them in to die
      >Allowing them to leave means the spacemen are far more in number but their rocket fails and they are scattered around the wasteland, encountered in small groups at a time
      >Locking them in means that the residents try a last ditch attempt to launch themselves, destroying a friendly (probably the tutorial) village/town when the ship crashes, killing all but one resident (like nuking megaton)

There's also a grand super arsenal that the previous governor of Texas stashed away full of enough prewar weapons, tech, supplies, and riches to fund a army the wasteland has never seen before that everyone is looking for like it's the one piece

In the aftermath of Mr. House's victory at the Second Battle of Hoover Dam and the subsequent collapse of the New California Republic (NCR), the Mojave Wasteland stands on the brink of a new era. In this sequel, set several years after House's victory, New Vegas serves as a hub of trade, entertainment, and intrigue, but it is no longer the main focus of the wasteland's politics. Amidst the power struggles and shifting alliances, a third faction emerges, one that defies conventional boundaries and embraces the radical ideology of transhumanism.

This new faction, known as "The Ascendants," is comprised of individuals who believe in transcending the limitations of humanity through the integration of technology and biology. Led by schmismatic BOS veterans, charismatic visionaries, and brilliant scientists, The Ascendants seek to usher in a new age of enlightenment and progress, where cybernetic enhancements and genetic modifications are embraced as the next step in human evolution.

However, The Ascendants' pursuit of transhumanist ideals brings them into conflict with both Mr. House's established order and the enigmatic Remnants.

The Remnants are shrouded in mystery, rumored to be descendants of a splinter group from a pre-war mega-corporation. They manipulate events from the shadows, positioning themselves to become the dominant power in the Mojave Wasteland.

As the player navigates this complex web of factions and ideologies, they must decide where their loyalties lie and determine the fate of the Mojave Wasteland. Will they align themselves with Mr. House's vision of a technologically advanced society, forge alliances with the enigmatic Remnants, or embrace the transhumanist ideals of The Ascendants? In a world where the line between humanity and machine blurs, the choices made by the player will shape the destiny of the wasteland for generations to come.

A strand of FEV enters into the water supply of the south west and it turns the Death claws into a super intelligent race of beings, kinda like the ones in Fallout 2 but these are genocidal religious death claws that are more intelligent than humans. They start breeding like roaches and enslave other mutated animals while they use humans as food. They become such a big threat that all the big factions ally together including sects of super mutants and ghouls just to hold them at bay. But you as the player has to convince the other factions to band together and finish off the deathclaws, or destroy each other and take their power for your own faction, create your own factions, or join the death claw and sabotage the other factions once you realize that the death claws have a better plan for humanity. In my head is that there is two groups of death claws. One is devour all humans, and the other want to befriend humans as they lack the dexterity and the ability to farm as they are death machines. But you can side with both.

I think it could work as bethasda loves the settlement system which would go great with factions and waring with each other. But for some reason they didn't do that with starfield or fallout 4 really. I think they should focus on factions as that was the whole fun of new vegas.

The Fallout mod for HoI4 has some really cool factions, so I'm gonna steal from that:

Robots. They came to the conclusion the war and suffering was due to human rule and seek to establish a zookeeper society where humans are well cared for but also tightly controlled. A life in luxury, but most are castrated to keep aggression to a minimum and killed when they turn 40. No freedom of movement, no self-determination. You eat what they give you (which is better than what most people eat), you socialize only among approved individuals. Those robots don't hide their terms, but many still flock to their cities to escape the desolation.

    The factions are:
    - Resistance cell, made up of people about to turn 40 who seek to rewrite some parts of the robots, effectively turning them into butlers.
    - Religious raider-esque faction on the outskirts believing the robots to be an affront to god and humanity
    - The Grand Calculator, basically the robot ruler. You can join him for various tasks that need to be done by a human in exchange for exemption of the 40 year rule and breeder status.
    - The Mother, another supercomputer seeking to supplant the Grand Calculator

The story premise is a big arsenal of ready to launch nukes (500 or so) currently inaccessible by everyone. It could be used to EMP blast all robots to shit, or to wipe out resistance to robot rule and keep the Brotherhood away (Brotherhood only mentioned, not actually in the game).

    There.

A faction of hyper sadistic Japanese murder robots powerful by lovecraftian level technological bullshit that just want to cause as much suffering in the wasteland as much as possible for shits and giggles (because, after how much bethesda and now amazon fricked with the lore, ton and themes of the series, so why the frick not) causing you to face the most OP and hardest enemies you will run across. Also they wiped out the local brotherhood chapter and did frick up shit to the corpses, and the local enclave are just their personnel chew toys, the robots keep around because they like the worst aspects of the faction. They are also constantly fricking up settlements and deliberately driving people insane and forcing everyone to hide in the sewers, so they can keep the wasteland as their playground./
Also the main quest will have jack shit to do with taking them down, and is just another new vegas style faction war, with the robots as a twisted version of the yes man route (that one of the robots trick you into by pretending to be the most moral person in the wasteland with the best path) that that have be do doing more and more twisted and evil things until it result in a local apocalypse.
also their is hydroponics facility they allow to stay up, but no one is allow to use it just to frick with the people in the wasteland.

A supervault in a random part of the world. Like south asia or something. Tactically placed in an area furthest from any major 1st world cities, to avoid nuclear fallout.
Full of the descendants of rich mfs.
Vault tec didnt care about it much since it wasnt in America, so they focused on making it huge to fit all the rich and famous, but thats it. So its now in disrepair and unsustainable.

The supervault population emerge to the surface and essentially become a giant raider group. White people stealing from the poor minority surface dwellers above to sustain their vault.

You were taken as a slave into the supervault. You do the slave tutorial, then sneak out in the luggage of a raiding party with the goal of freeing your sister or lover or some shit whos still a slave in there.

    >PH is their main shipping port that branches off to the rest of Asia.
    >They use this port to reach out to Hawaii and the west coast.
    >Fallout 5 is now about dealing with Chinese foreign relations.
    >It mimics old tales of European and Spanish settlers in America and Africa.

    >central domestic conflict:
    >NCR is fricking up with water despite having water from Hoover dam.
    >There's not enough food to go around
    >Rampant corruption among even the most ordinary law enforcement
    >Quests involve morally grey issues like corrupt cops still doing decent things like giving water to ordinary citizens which cut into sharecropper water rations and means less food overall.
    >Industrial sectors also use water to produce uranium in the mining process.
    >This causes pollution inevitably and there's additional quests involving the NCR that deal with dumping around towns.
    >It's up to you whether you levy the NCR to use underhanded, but practical solutions to gain capital and strongarm the firms for better deals or take them to court and bankrupt the firms.
    >This is meant to echo the entire Cass storyline in NV, but on a larger scale.

Bunch of quests like this basically

    >Some involve building lines to semi-rural communities that aren't financially viable to run lines in.
    >These same communities are targeted by Chinese nationals looking to trade and establish influence in.
    >If you build the lines out, they don't align with the Chinese.

At the end of the game your slides reflect on whether you were able to reconcile your dilemmas well enough to keep china out. Some ofc will deal with CH-PH canonically establishing decent trade relations with USA. Those will be fine. Primarily, this fallout deals with corruption and unionizing.

Set in texas, prety much carrying over the western cowboy theme of new vegas, new factions mostly, but Ceasars Legion makes return (but without Caesar, he is replaced with someone else and is drastically different now) maybe 1 or 2 vault from vault tec, but since its Texas, there would be alot of self made Doomsday prepper shelters, vith variying results of sucess. Your character could be descendant of people from one of those prepper vaults, now living kinda like great khans, and some new faction (or legion) comes in and wipes your simple arroyo like settlement, but you manage to escape the onslaught, and now find yourself in a small western like settlement town...

I would probably make it a split between the NCR, Caesars Legion, and the Eighties in northern Utah. Legion and NCR are both having logistical issues due to their distance. NCR being underfunded and undermanned, Legion due to lack of machinery. Make the Eighties a large threat but extremely brutal, organized, and effective. Give them a large Native American influence to their culture and raiding tactics. Do kind of a cowboys and Indians thing with them and the NCR with Legion as a counterbalance to both.

    - SLC is their main point of contention due to some sort of macguffin or technological device that the ncr wants to harness, the legion wants to destroy, and the eighties want to establish their power in the area or sell to the highest bidder.

New Canaan refugees/displaced members, while small in numbers, play a large role in the story

The player character would be a vault dweller from a relatively intact vault that was meant to house different sects of Christians and see how the react to one being given more power over the others. IE the overseer is only allowed to be a Mormon and has control over Catholics, Protestants, etc. or maybe a small atheist population designated as the ruling class. The characters drive being the vaults increased worry of invasion due to seismic activity from the war going on above. Solving the issue one way or another.

Cutting out raiders is impossible btw, if you mean like “raiders” the generic enemy type sure. But by that definition you can’t include the Khans, Eighties, Vipers. Etc

    Fallout Alaska could be fun.
Extreme weather conditions that you have to consider while in hardcore. Not that many settlements, but what settlements there are tend to revolve around trading furs and other parts of mutated animals, maybe a larger emphasis on being able to craft your own stimpaks, etc.
Not sure what the factions would be but there's oil reserves so the populace might be less inclined to rely on old world tech and fusion. Maybe there's a split in attitudes about it and other prewar tech, considering there's also less likely to be vaults up there too and less influence regarding Vault-Tec.
Icy mountains, lots of coast, thick greenery. Coastal towns that can trade with each other and further inland would be more isolated places that could be home to some stranger people. But it's already kind of regarded as a frontier nowadays so it'd be moreso after 200 years after the war.

The war put these efforts to a halt and for many years, much of a new humanity did not know what lay below. Until, that is, scavengers cracked open a control vault, the Vault-63, and found within information related to their pre-war experiments. When this information went public, many wastelanders dived into the murky coastal waters, hoping to find 63's vaunted "mini-shelters", seeking fortunes. Many of them died, only to return as ghastly phantoms, still in makeshift diving equipment. They'll attack the Vault Dweller on sight with harpoons, oxygen tanks, even their own masks. >they have a very good AI, taking advantage of tactics, cover and dropped/stationary weapons and traps
    >they are intelligent and can also talk, but don’t want to, because they are biologically created to be as cruel as possible (like the zombies in Crossed)
    >throughout the game you upgrade a vault by connecting it underground with railway stations and industries, which have been hidden underground to arm and support a non-mutated human population in the fight against the dinosoids
    >you can be benelovent or antagonistic with the mutated wastelander population, but most wastelanders are stupid, dumb and take advantage of any kindness they receive, so it’s not a clear good/evil decision to be nice to them
    >one of your companions is a beautiful woman, which you save from creepy Wastelanders, who want to wake her up from her cryopod, because she looks like an angel, she has skin like marble and looks like a hot alien babe

    >Fallout 5 set in Japan
    >After the great war, China has taken control of most of Asia leaving Japan under Chinese control
    >A group of Yakuza and other disgruntled/enslaved Japanese citizens, form a new organization called the Neo Japan Requisition Force, and set out to reclaim their homeland, they brandish the once great imperial flag of Japan
    >First they take control of a heavily guarded Assaultron factory and steal stealth suits from the Chinese
    >Next they take some leftover American power armor and refashion them to look like Samurai
    >They develop something similar to the shishkebab and wield giant flaming odachi
    >They systematically wipe all Chinese soldiers from Japan and re-establish a neo-shogunate
    >Japan continues to develop its weapondry, rebuild it's military and eventually they set off to liberate the rest Asia from China.

You guys think we'll ever see writing like this in a Fallout game ever again? Honestly I'm shocked they got away with this shit back in 2010, probably wasn't a good idea to have Sam Raimi on the writing team. https://files.catbox.moe/juu1gt.mp4

You play as a canadian in Montreal. The disgusting French established the Holy French Empire and are at war with the New Leaf Republic.
The main quest is destroying one side, both sides, or helping the Lanturn of Liberty group lead a mass exodus gtfo of Canada

Bring back the New Plague concept from Van Buren. It's still one of the big mysteries of the series that was barely explored.

A charismatic robot with "faulty hardware" (twist: it's a Robobrain) that makes him super persuasive has amassed in secret a huge cult of quasi-religious robots, machines, droids, and thinking computers etc. that see themselves as the sole inheritors of the wasteland and the future of life on Earth; in their quasi-religion they are "truth (1)" and everyone else is is "false (0)", and they are basically a little bit like way more organised and ideological Raiders, but are a faction of robots.
They directly challenge the Brotherhood of Steel (and others) for their monopoly on Wasteland technology, and frequently raid settlements for their tech as well, often capturing and liberating any machines and robots etc. that might be there too, and converting them to their cause.
Their cause is the destruction of all remaining life in the Wasteland, and the construction of a single massively powerful machine God. All tech and materiel they steal / loot / obtain goes toward that goal primarily, of creating the machine God. They see the great war as a turning point in which life was meant to be snuffed and the candle passed to the machines, to continue civilisation upon the Earth. All true confrontations of machine vs. machine can be solved peacably within a digital environment, a virtual reality that the cult has access to a little bit like Braun's VR world in Fallout 3, but more advanced. They do not need to wage war in the real world against one another. They espouse peace between machines.
They have access to pre-war troves of advanced computer viruses that allow the cult to stealthily infiltrate even advanced Wasteland entities like the Enclave, Insitute, Brotherhood of Steel, etc. and procure intelligence of stashes of tech, troop movements, strategies, and so on.
The cult has seized pre-war RobCo facilities that were in ruins, and re-built them, refurbished them, and are using them to construct new robot models and to re-program extant models to serve the cult's desires.

A while back I had this idea for a Fallout game, or at least an expansion, set in the Deep South. Atlanta or maybe Charleston. The concept was a parody of antebellum society where the wasteland survivors had set up a comfy life for themselves by capturing a bunch of Ghouls and forcing them to work the land.

Then 4 came along and did the whole synth/slave/railroad mess and ruined the idea forever.

Still, I know we are a joke to the rest of burgerland and an outright caricature to the world at large, but why does the series never seem to touch on what befell this particular corner of Americana?

Because 1, 2, and NV were set in the same general area along with 3 and 4. Maybe 5 will break away and try a new area or will just memberberries the capitol wasteland or something.

Yeah I get that but at least NV gave some indication of the situation in the Midwest and Texas in the form of the Legion. In 3, the first game set on the east coast, we get hints about New England and the Commonwealth via quests.

I can't recall even ever reading a single line of fluff about anything south of Virginia. No records of vaults in major cities there. Factions.

        Seems like a waste

I would just create Van Buren. It has everything you want.
    >You are The Prisoner
    >You break free from Tibbets Prison
    >You are being hunted down by the robotic prison guards
    >You are carrying the New Plague
    >You are the threat
It would be a spiritual sequel to NV, takes place East of the Dam

    >you were captured and turned into one of those agents, and that's why there are conflicting stories about your past and reputation around the wastes

Climate catastrophe is threatening the wasteland with irradiated destruction, there is a machine being developed by the Scientists Of Color but threatening them is a group of pale backwards wastelanders called The Trampers that do not trust the science and think it is an affront to their god. The gameplay loop will mostly consist of you clearing out Tramper camps of everyone including women and children and replacing them with minority citizens of the Scientists Of Color Internation, which will be visually rewarding as you get to see the Tramper camps cleaned up of racks of meat and poor shacks and replaced by vegan farming and modern styled earthen huts.

    >Government controlled vault meant to house seed population for post-war civilians, no one important nor useless
    >Sold as a regular vault, despite it basically eugenics
    >Delivery mix up exposed classified documents, management cabal that would keep the plan under wraps never made it to the vault, the interim Overseer knows the secret and decides there's no benefit of exposing it
    >X years later, the Overseer dynasty falls upon someone who decides to reveal it along with some kind of cataclysmic fault forcing the vault to open, either requiring a FO1 style "Go get a water chip" quest or just the vault needing to be abandoned
    >Faced with siding with the Enclave and continuing the pre-war government's ideals while enjoying easy post-war life
    >Or venturing out into the wasteland and fighting against the remnants of the cabal that was basically going to use you as cattle
