I know, last time I played was for the Gintama collab, it was nice and hilarious as expected.

The PS5 loses money on hardware. We know this because they make very little profit despite frickloads of money coming in from online fees and microtransactions. I'd guess they're losing at least 50 dollars per PS5, and it was probably closer to 100 dollars at launch. They might start to make a profit by this holiday, but that assumes they don't cut the price which they probably will.
The PS5 is literally just a locked down PC, the only way for them to sell it is to sell it at a loss, otherwise everyone would just buy a PC.

Seeing Sony jack up crunchyroll prices the immediate second they got a de facto monopoly on anime simulcasting/streaming and the Xbox whatever the frick is happening news has me feeling some kind of dread.
It's like when you saw Call of Duty 4 came out and it was a huge hit and you naturally didn't have any scope of how the industry was going to change back then in 2007(I was too preoccupied with TF2 personally). Halo was left in the dust, and at the same time Microsoft(and Sony) were gearing up to get that Wii money with Kinect(and Move). At this same time, this basically made Microsoft neglect their first party output and betting big on entertainment centers culminating with the Xbone. This was the correct call long-term, but ultimately too much too fast, especially for the US, Xbox's main consumer base, where lots of areas outside of major metropolitan had(and still have) absolutely garbage internet back in the day, and even though the Xbone had a stronger launch library than the PS4, the damage was done.
Nothing is worse for gaming as a whole than when Sony feels like they don't have to try.
One thing that's really been helping Japan avoid another dark age like the abattoir that was the 7th gen was that both Microsoft and Sony have been funneling cash into AAA productions, if just for hilariously inane things like Sony paying Capcom to keep Resident Evil and Monster Hunter off game pass for a specific amount of time.
Now, PC's playerbase been growing in that time and previously "niche" titles like Yakuza and Persona have been finding a foothold in the west pretty handily thanks to some high profile entries so there might be enough critical mass to make it sustaining but if this credit train dries up since game pass has probably hit its limit and Sony just coasts on "default COD/sports platform," I'm terrified of what that might do to big budget Japanese development 3-4 years from now.
