>FOnline
bump for revealing this to me
>he wasn't here on summer of 2008 to play FOnline with Ganker against the russians and french
lol
lmao even
jesus christ those russians gave me ptsd
I remember being in a chat with a whole clan from Ganker trying to take over The Den with our shitty leather armor and pistols, and then 3 russians drop in with power armor and miniguns and waste everybody. It was like a horror movie hearing everyone in chat panicking "Where are they? Where are they? I can't see them!"
Shoveling Brahman shit for cash. The constant suicide bombings. What a great mmo.
Holy frick, I remember that, I was there.
>TLA Mk2
>caravan run
>several random russians waiting for caravan to set off
>enter with dynamite in inventory
>get close to russians
>set bomb to explode asap
>get shot by npc guards
>die
>russians cant scramble fast enough to escape death
>multiple instances of this made devs fix it
Even in the middle of caravan encounters russians would kill randoms so everything was worth it
what stops you from playing right now
it's dead
All that I remember was that no one knew what in the hell that they were doing and dying a bunch. If you weren't partied with someone from the thread, you ran from every single other person you met because they would try and kill you.
It was a nightmare.
nobody on this trash board was here in 2008 you fricking Black person, how do you not have a life
have a nice day zoomer
Based troonillenials wasting their life on 4cuck
zoom
Why do you play with the vodkaBlack folk? I bet you support R*ssia you vpn vatnik. Fricking pidorashka.
let me guess. You missed out on Tribes as well?
Poor fool
>Computer was too shit to properly run Ascend during its heyday
One of my only regrets in life
It's shit, now go on with your life.
It's super janky and the community is aids
the community is cool, I remember being a noob and reach some city and have some pink power armor Black person trying to put explosives on my pockets just for fun while making gay jokes
It's not fun when you grind from 40 hours to get some decent armor/weapon then you lose everything to the first naked dipshit you see in town doing cheesy shit like that. It's why the game is dead.
skill issue plus you're gay
I probably played this longer than you, homosexual.
>he played for long a game he hates
sounds like you are the homosexual
Seethe more about a janky game that you helped kill.
That actualy sounds realy fun! Seriously. I always hated how safe mmos were. Good for the russians for making it hardcore. Ganker should play this more.
It's fun if you just plan on fricking around for a few days without seriously committing to the game, but when you can't even sell your gear in town without being killed by random jank like
you get bored fast.
I agree they should've tried to balance the game. Maybe let players keep their chars but not their gear on death.
You get to keep the character which is cool but the game is really, really grindy when you aren't running around griefing people. It feels bad losing a piece of mediocre armor you spent 60 hours grinding for.
AFAIK they changed the hardcore thing of losing everything some time ago, or losing your char, can't remember which
I last played in around 2012 or so I think? It was back when there was just FOnline and not a bunch of offshoot servers. Back then you kept the character but lost all of your gear. That wouldn't be a problem if the game wasn't so terribly grindy. Maybe they changed that.
>remove core feature which is the game's primary appeal
>it dies
I put up with all of the jank and the fact that the game doesn't respect your time solely based on my love for Fallout 1 and 2. Did people actually play this for any other reason besides being desperate for another original Fallout type experience?
the game's pillar were the gangs, things were adjusted all around them
make your own, run the faction and conquer the world
you still could have fun as a solo player, but you were heavily missing out
It's not really that grindy. If you get caught up in the early levels trying to get cash you basically frick yourself because your skills are shit. You can just as easily abuse the real-time mechanics in fights and blast through tons of enemies to power level yourself in no time and then use your non trash character to solo quests/make money from actual jobs.
But too many people are morons and think shoveling shit is where the money is at and spend 20 hours doing that mining T1 ore on characters that can barely hold 60 kg.
Be aware it is Fallout 1 but online. As in that same design but online. Some people don't understand what that means. This is a hardcore PvP sandbox. You will get bullied by veteran players, you will have your shit stolen from you, you will have to learn to fight back and conquer the uncaring wastes. This is encouraged and fascilitated by
Please do not go in expecting Themepark style WoW game design. It's Fallout. But online. In the same way Uru Online was Myst but Online.
Are the servers even still online? I think I checked a year or two ago and nearly all of them were offline due to lack of interest/inactivity.

This realy does sound great. Too bad I don't have time to play this.
Think of it as a slightly more hardcore Star Wars Galaxies Pre CU and you're right on the money for the gameplay and the sort of autist (me) who will enjoy this game. I won't lie FO Online's best days are behind it. My favorite memory was raiding bases with Sargon (yes that one. He's a c**t now. He used to play FO with me a lot.)
Unironically Neverwinter Nights persistant worlds are less dead than FO servers. I was on the Ravenloft one doing comfy RP when a DM got us to do a quest he made. It was actually one of the best gaming experiences of my life.
>fan-made games
Does that include total conversions?
What mod is this?
aint Archolos right?
Odysse? LOA?
the crafting and gathering cooldowns were abysmal
does anyone still play that
Of course not. Russians ruin everything.
Russians made FOnline though, in fact they made a lot of good Fallout fan games
It's the community that killed the game. Conceptually, it was cool even if it was incredibly janky.
Ashes of Phoenix was good for the short time of its existence
Far Cry was a mod by someone
Also Nehrim and Enderal
I remember playing FOnline with Ganker back in the day. We got had some good scraps with Russians. Then we moved on onto the Ashes of Phoenix but it died too fast. However it is one of best game conceptually and I would give anything to have a proper 3D rpg shooter made in similar vein.
What put me off the FOnline was not the community, no matter how chaotic it was it was ultimately fun(i remember playing Heaven and Hearth around that time with Ganker too and it was also hardcore PvP madness)
But it was the janky controls, messy UI and bad netcode that made things suffering. And atop of that you had russians in power armors shitting on your mutilated corpse while all you could do is shovel shit for hours.
It was the shitty code coupled with the griefers that ultimately made the grind feel pointless. There is no point in playing a MMO for any length of time that constantly forces you to start over. I remember the guard AI auto burst firing onto people that would attempt to steal from others. Gearless noobs would exploit that by positioning themselves in such a way that the guards would burst fire onto their victim (usually while at a vendor) since they would be in front of the thief and directly in the line of fire. Shit like that is fun for newbies that just want to dick around for a few hours/days and then bounce to a different game but crappy for people that spend a ton of time actually playing the game to grind out end game gear since you lose everything.
Ashes Of Phoenix was the best iteration of FOnline, too bad that since 2017 the devs have been doing nothing but lazying around and jerking eachother off in discord, letting the game die
I've been enjoying sonic robo blast 2 as a fan made 3d platformer.
Zelda classic is a fan engine for Zelda 1 remakes/remixes.
recommend me true sandbox mmos
Minecraft
thats singleplayer
Define "true sandbox". You don't have to follow some kind of highly optimal path (such as quests in Runescape) in order to progress and can do whatever the frick you want without it feeling like you're gimping yourself? If that's what you mean, I would say Puzzle Pirates and RPG MO.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/99910/Puzzle_Pirates/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/372800/RPG_MO/
this but also with like skills and shit so you can for example just ignore the whole combat stuff and idk become a blacksmith and sell armor/weapons
RPG MO would fit that description, then. Puzzle Pirates not so much, you still get forced into certain activities such as swordfighting puzzles, but I also don't expect many people to be into PP due to its niche design
>RPG MO
oh i dont care at all about building
just want open world and lots of skills but not quite like runescape where you have players being masters of all with no specialization or class
Yes you can do exactly that in RPG MO. Wdym with building?
but theres no classes
its just runescape but 2d
Star Wars Galaxies
I played like a crazy motherfricker on FOnline2 and FO:R back in 2015 and 2016
What the FRICK happened? I heard that they've removed basically everything that made the game fun and seeing how servers are almost dead it makes sense
