Fans took to modding this into a remastered better game that can run on a lemon, give it a go, good pirate vidya is in short supply.

word is they're remaking the game in a better engine now and that will be cool to see when it's finished.
I wonder if they will ever finish it. They've been making New Horizons at least for 10 years at this point.
Also, just have to say that Storm engine games were awesome.
Who cares? I'll just stick to the Xbox version
why?
It speaks to me
PC is a soulless experience. Slavs wouldnt get it because they have no soul, thats why they are so attached to PC gaming
PC gaming oozes soul, you're nuts.
Having said that I feel an obligation to try this on Xbox first, since I already own the disc version of it.
The xbox version is borderline unplayable from game ending bugs
Did they improve the controls because this game had the absolute worst fricking controls I've ever encountered in a pc game, I mean literally unplayable tier
Just go to the control settings
>A shitty Movie tie-in game
The most bizarre things get autistic modders.
To be fair, I believe it was a completely stand-alone title that just happened to pick up the license before release. I played a little of it on Xbox and there was zero connection to POTC from what I remember.
Indeed, it is basically Sea Dogs II: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirates_of_the_Caribbean_(video_game)
In fact, the only tie-ins is the appearance of the Black Pearl and the sole appearance of Jack The Sparrow in the end of some mission. The latter was added in the last patch (which was only released for russian version of the game), and, to top it off, is either bugged or unfinished (if you choose the dialogue option to join him, the game will crash).
It's one of the best pirate video games out there. Russian version is the most complete one, but it is basically unplayable on any modern PC in its default form, because StarForce protection was never removed by anyone, and so you are either bound to use WinXP in order to play or use mods.
On the bright side, even though it was never patched, ennglish version of the game never had StarForce as well, so that one should work good enough on any machine.
And my bet it is because of the stupid POTC tie-in the game is still not released on GOG, frick Disney. I bet my money it is their fault.
Like the first Witcher, controls are awkward, but once you'll get used to it, it is quite enjoyable.
How's the Xbox version? I got that as a gift once many years ago but didn't dive too deep into it.
Sorry, have no idea. There's really not much information about it either.
XBox was pretty good console for its time though, so I suspect it at least looks about as good as PC version... I wonder what they've did with the controls though.
Its pretty good, I had a lot of fun playing it to the end.
Did have a couple moments where cut scenes were supposed to trigger but they'd just skip.. game was clearly rushed.
But.. did manage to finish it, all in all it was a good experience.
Never did manage to get into the PC versions, maybe its me.. or maybe i just need to use a joypad.

Fans fixed it. Works on my machine
I wish i could post link but
>Error: Our system thinks your post is spam. Please reformat and try again.
For Christ's sake
Upload it to dropmefiles.com
It should work fine.
Last fix I've saw messed up my savegames which I've made in the vanilla version.
Here we go - preinstalled RU 1.3 version of PotC with fixes
https://gofile.io/d/e75cCE
Copy init_pc.c file to GameFolderPROGRAMControls if you wanna choose the dialogue options by using W and S keys instead of UP and DOWN arrows
>Last fix I've saw messed up my savegames which I've made in the vanilla version.
Maybe It's because some savegames aren't compatible with new patch dunno
oh wow thanks, do you think you could reupload the new horizons installer from modd too? i timed out downloading it earlier (five hours just for it to fail and be unresumable what a pain) https://www.moddb.com/mods/new-horizons/downloads/build-14-final-installer
I'll do it
>If that screenshot of yours is from that version of the game, that's most likely an indicator that it was modified as well, because I do not remember that ship from my playthrough.
I took it from a French Pirate after sidequest where you have to steal some English gold. It doesn't adds new ships and etc
Hm. Well, my memory may fail me, it was years ago after all. Either way, the download will be done in an hour or so, therefore I'll check my save ASAP. Hands down, it would be good to finally make it work on a Win7 machine.
>Maybe It's because some savegames aren't compatible with new patch dunno
I'm downloading it now, though I doubt it will work. My savegames were done with the very last official patch, and all the fixes I've encountered all modified the game to some amount. And even the minor amount of messing with files fricks the savegames up. There was no simple no-CD crack anywhere in the web.
If that screenshot of yours is from that version of the game, that's most likely an indicator that it was modified as well, because I do not remember that ship from my playthrough.
Either way, I will give it a try, so thank you for the link.
Here you go. Also uploaded eng potc (it still need to be cracked OR just install New Horizons)

By the glory of Anubis, it works!
In all that is holy, it works!
Right of the box, just unpacked it and... bam!
Wow!
And my saves are fine!
So, it looks like after all these years somebody actually put together a simple no-CD without any mods and fixes. Lord, how hard could that be for the world to wait for two decades in order for that to be done.
Whoever made it - gods bless his soul.
And bless your soul, anon, for sharing it.
It's fricking A to finally see this port again on my modern PC.
Since it works, might go for a sail as well, plunder something, have a good couple of hours.
Thanks again, anon.
>So, it looks like after all these years somebody actually put together a simple no-CD without any mods and fixes
it has fixes like text's dpi and some translation errors, unpacked resources, but that makes it event better tho
I bid you Godspeed, Anon.
>unpacked resources
Oh, it does! And I did not even notice!
Short bit of info for others in the thread: english version always has been shipped with unpacked resources folder, while in russian version that folder was packed into some proprietary data1.pak archive (which practically rendered it unmoddable for several years).
This sole thing makees it several miles better than the original version. What an absolute darn treasure of a pack you've shared here, man. You have all my gratitude.
is the 1.3 russian one also in english, language wise?
Nope. Hence why it is russian.
Since anon in this thread posted a russian version with unpacked resources, one should actually be able to attach english text files to russian version with little trouble. However, since patch 1.3 adds several quests that are not present in english version, those would most likely have empty lines at best (and a game will crash at those at worst).
You should probably try and look for a fan translation? Who knows, since somebody actually unpacked resources for that version, maybe someone actually translated it as well. I mean, patch 1.3 does not add that much and, accordingly, it should not be much to translate there. Somebody might've done it.
Actually, check the link in https://gofile.io/d/Lzmj81
Brief internet search tells me New Horizons mod uses 1.03 as a base, so download it, crack it and launch. In the main meny, in the bottom right corner it should say "1.03".
do you pride yourself in being as wrong as possible?
he's just a bitter homosexual, ignore him.
is this shit even retro? I lost track
>2003
It's retro.
Any reason to play this one compared to the non-/vr/ sequels? I hear City of Abandoned Ships is the best one.
maybe not? i always assumed this game was special but i would be hard pressed to point out any specific reasons, i own it on Xbox, it's modded into remaster territory on PC, it's just a good game
It's definitely on par. I'm still not sure if it's the second or third part which I would call the best one. I just think that in the second game your ships and thenature around it (sea, storms, skies) somehow look a bit more imposing. Not sure why, but that was always my impression.
Either way, if you will like the City Of Abandoned Ships and would love some more of the same game - well, here's your reason. Honestly, the games are pretty much identical.
It's true that the atmosphere in this game is quite amazing. I remember being impressed quite a lot by the graphics back then.
>Women can now also sit down, and be assigned governors.
My memory of Xbox version was that it is very choppy and slow to load, is this correct?
Not sure, my xbox was modded so I'd always run games off the hard drive.
This is correct, it's actually kind of shocking how much lag there is in the animations
Didn't they make the engine open source a while ago? I wish fans would actually just put together a 1.3 update themselves instead of having to rely on a patched Russian edition.
I like Sea Dogs 2 bec it so simple compare to other games in the series and mods
same, it has a really good feel when playing it. it's everything Redguard should have been, has a lot going for it and is streamlined to boot
>remaster
No.
but actually yes, frick yes actually
it's simply an unofficial mod and talking like a twat doesn't change that
it's JUST an unofficial mod, the heckin unofficialness !!
(the mod was made over 17 years by dozens of developers coming and going, it adds so much content it makes your head spin from inside your ass)
finally an archive of these. i remember trouble finding them myself in the past
Bump, nobody answered me what game/mods this pictures uses.
god dammit you dude. it's new horizons. doesnt matter which version, get latest one
Thanks!
The music in this game was so good. I'm still humming the tune every one in a while.
There was a long time where me and my friends would go
Doot doot doot doody doody doot do
Doot doot doot doody doody doot dum
When casually walking like the character in the game
is the ship combat close to Asscreed 4 or sly cooper 3?
it's closer to sid meier's pirates and sea dogs 1
no
