It's really the hair being too busy in terms of both do and color. Her outfit is completely fine in terms of being Joe's apprentice, and the glasses are a fine little quirk that goes with her "I only fight to gather data" shtick. It's the shape, the movement, the accessories, pastel color, the streaks of colors that kind of clash with it in random places. Give her a straight ponytail and one solid hair color and she's good.

They started WAY behind the rest of the industry in terms of 3D, but I think the visual direction of SamSho & CotW covers for the weaker model quality. KOF suffered most by playing it mostly straight.
I could forgive low poly 3D models but the shading tech they use in KOF/SS and this is downright ugly.
New characters are overdesigned nightmares so its clear they lack proper art direction
I'd like to go to bat for Antonov as the best KOF newcomer since '99 but his XV redesign doesn't work that well IMO. Isla & Dolores aren't beating the overdesigned accusations either even if I think they're neat too. SamSho 7's newcomers (all three of them) are winners though; Darli instantly became my main, Yashamaru is the right kind of edgy with a neat toolkit, and Wu is cute as frick with fun moveset to mess with as a pocket character.

The inspiration is clear and deliberate, but the name of the Hidden Gear in the game has been shown to be Cosmic Strike Geyser; all of Terry’s moves as titled in english so I would guess they wouldn’t want keep the move named the same as it was in the OVA, in Japanese since Terry in-canon names all of his moves in English.

He already did the promotional animated PV for KoF XV. The last project SNK lent itself to animation was that 3D CGi show, KOF Destiny, I guess they don't have the budget to go all-in for anime even with the Saudi money.
OVAs are largely dead anyway so we wouldn't get insane animation, and even most gachas get pretty shit tier adaptations despite printing money. So I don't see it happening any time soon. But the man made his gay robo fricker show happen so anything is possible.

Heard good things about Dojo Masters before so I'm glad it's getting more development. Still, Chaos Code, Axel City and Rage of the Dragons being hard-locked to Japanese arcades or the tiny handful of western arcades that can afford to import them sucks wiener. I would grab the new Chaos Code as a game to frick around in with friends so fast.
I mean, I get what they're trying to do. If you're an arcade developer in Japan and want to get your game out there, for a long time your only options were to be rich enough to have your own specialized board/cabinet or go with nesica live. Perhaps EXA offers better deals for developers, maybe EXA is funding these ports/rereleases whereas other publishers only see it as a dud. I dunno. I do agree that it sucks a majority of the people who want to play them never will, but it's better that they exist than not.

Why would Mai be in this, though? The only returning character from the old cast should really be Terry, the entire point of MotW is to focus on the new generation.
nta but launching a fighting game with only 14 characters would catch SNK a lot of heat, especially since most aren't going to care if they reuse parts of the FF/AoF characters that were in KOFXV. Ideally, the 14 Garou characters are the guaranteed characters, then after that is an assortment of other Fatal Fury vets mixed in with newcomers.
Also when they first announced the game we already saw art of Joe and Andy, so we know some are coming back.

Total New Generation overhauls have been proven to be a complete recipe for disaster, fighting games no longer pull that. SFIII, MotW, MKX, SC5 were all in storm of complaints at the time of their original release over roster picks, since then all fighting game devs have set in stone nostalgia will always be catered too, might as well call it the "World Warrior Effect", can't even start designing new characters before making sure the OGs are in the roster.

Selling well can't be solely attributed to the new generation since all the popular classic characters were kept, and the complaints were still visibly heard since MK11 diminished the importance of Cassie and her Kombat Kids a lot, and by MK1 they were reduced to a blatant humiliating joke where an alternate timeline Cassie gets killed like nothing, an absolute far cry from how she was treated like the hero in MKX.
So yeah, the point still stands, complete new generation overhauls in fighting games are something devs are absolutely afraid to try after so many examples of backlash.

SNK retconned Ryo’s date of birth Buriki One, he was born in 1957 according to AOF, but in Buriki One he was born in 1967, being explicitly 35 years old in that game which takes place in 2000, Mark of the Wolves takes place in 2004, so through Buriki One’s new account Ryo would be 39, as such in Cirty of the Wolves he would be 41, not 48.
TL;DR; If the Buriki One retcon sticks or wasn’t a mistake then the AOF cast only 5 years older than the FF cast now, not 10 years.

You should also remember that COTW is confirmed to be two years after MOTW.
I think that post was taking account the two timeskips together, the gap between Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury, and between Fatal Fury and Mark of the Wolves; roughly 10 years each, so technically there would be a massive 20 years gap between Art of Fighting and Mark of the Wolves.
Although Buriki One changing Ryo's birthdate from 1957 to 1967 does make things weird.
The Todoh family have no connections to any Fatal Fury character as far as I am aware off, so Kasumi ever being considered would be a stretch; Ryo and the Kyokugen family in general have actual ties to Terry through Geese’s overarching lore, Ryo himself is a guest in Real Bout (albeit non-canon) and a full canon appearance in Wild Ambition, and Marco of course brought Kyokugen to the next Gen of characters in MorW, that’s why they are brought up in these threads.
For a safer Kasumi guess you would have better luck hoping Art of Fighting also gets a last hurrah with a Art of Fighting 4.

They're all legacy titles barely carried by their tiny, aging and niche audience, and the "FGC" which is largely comprised of troons and mentally ill homosexuals of all kinds. Each successive iteration of these legacy fighters continues to dumb down mechanics and add casual modes, while destroying legacy skill sets that used to be valued, while simultaneously having predatory DLC practice that make gacha games look honest. And SNK will be no different, this game is already following the casualization approach and all the rest will be the same as well. Fighting games had their time, and that time is over. As they continue to underperform and have an ever smaller audience, they will tread the path of RTS and adventure games before them.

It's a shame that CodeMystics does good work on those ports when everybody who cares has already been playing those games on Fightcade for years. Even the UM versions getting the patch didn't really push people off of FC. PS1/Dreamcast/Naomi/Atomiswave/PS2/Gamecube games getting rollback is where the money would be but it's also much harder I think.

I'm not particularly interested in COTW's changes to the combo system. I don't play KOF but it looks like EX moves and MAX mode bullshit which is not my thing.
I was never a fan of the old max mode combos in KOF, but I feel like this one fixes it.

Is it weird that I think this looks better visually than SF6, MK1 and Tekken 8? Obviously those games have more graphical details, but this just looks more pleasing to my eyes overall.

While 'looks more real = better' is the usual thought, it doesn't really stop people from prefering stuff that's more stylized.
It has a nice artstyle and a lot of colors. These other games as you said have a shit ton of details but the realistic style make them look a bit bland.

The games you listed all strive for exaggerated realism in their art styles. If you want fair comparisons, I'd recommend looking at ArcSys's catalog of recent games instead. If you want a 1:1 look, look at UMVC3 or even the new HxH fighting game. Cel-shading rocks.
I don't agree with Tekken 8, just because that one has much nicer looking stages. But I get what you mean when it comes to MK1 (it just looks unpleasant) and especially SF6.
SF6 is in this really gross middle ground of having an stylized anime look, but everything is textured realistically so I keep this feeling that shit looks off. CotW at least fully commits to the anime look and the western comic stylings look neat.

6's story isn't worse than V's, the problem is they didn't finish it. World Tour in its entirely is like one story beat in the plot, while the prequel comic was the entire first half of it. You'd think they'd at least have the comic readable in-game, it's pretty good.

I don’t see a scenario where City of the Wolves has a base roster like that, only about 7 MotW characters managed to grow popular and cross over to KOF eventually. Oda is saying they are treating this as the last Fatal Fury game (unless it sells more than they expect and they change that tune of course) so it is a guarantee they will cater to as much easy picks based on popularity as possible with the more recognizable Fatal Fury faces before exausting the MotW cast.

How scrub-friendly is Garou? This game looks cool, but I've never played one of these games and those combos look hard.
SNK games are 100% git gud, even the "toned down" modern games. You're going to have to persist via autism to get into them
Garou bnbs are not particularly long nor extremely hard, but if you jump in against an experienced player you'll get fricked. Especially if they play a high tier and you don't know how to deal with their bullshit. It's still easier to pick up than stuff like BlazBlue so there's that
Comboing will be way easier because the timing and the input precision for these old games are too strict unlike new games.
It will still have a bit of complexity because of feints and other mechanics but this stuff is more for high level play
If you have no hope they have the "modern controls" but those don't cover some of the mechanics
Getting down the basics of Garou shouldn't be too tough, but you may run into some problems with the break and feint parts. As for this game, we don't know yet, but you may be rolling with the Smart Controls for a bit when starting out.

So it is all good, since he is definitely not returning, Freeman is as unlikely as Remy ever retuning in Street Fighter. Some OG Fatal Fury rep will absolutely get in before Freeman, the MotW cast will be gimped since only 7 or so of them managed to become popular over the years.

She has less chances but being from Art of Fighting isn’t a barrier, it is literally a bridge, Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury are the closest titles in the Southtown universe, but yeah only the like of Ryo and the Kyokugen family have any real chance through their shared connection with the Borgards through heir beef with Geese.
Another tournament arc story. I was hoping they'd do something different here for the story but I'll stay optimistic.

It would've been more refreshing for a story-focused Fightan to avoid needing to do the KOF Tournament again. Plus it just confuses people as shown in this thread
