Consider this, if it weren't for FGO, the Fate franchise is probably as dead as Tsukihime/Melty. FGO is the necessary evil for the franchise to stay relevant and funding other projects. As a Digimon fan, I'd wish for something like FGO. Not because the game's good, but at least it'll keep the franchise relevant enough and not being forgotten by the IP owners themselves.

zero spoils a lot of important stuff in fsn that are supposed to be big reveals. watching zero first spoils too much of fsn because it was written after and it expects people to already know about certain things about fsn already.

Compared to F/SN and F/GO's later stuff, yes. But characters still constantly explain and repeat other character's explanations all the time. Some of the terminologies could have also been glossed over or explained in a much more condense and concise way, like Noble Phantasm for example. It could be explained in 2 or 3 sentences and yet the game dedicated half of the first meeting with Zheng Chenggong and Archer to drill into your head what the frick a Noble Phantasm is.

I find it hilarious that people are avoiding this game because it's a "musou". The boss fights make it hard to call a musou game especially with how frequent they are. Even the trash mob fights have you fighting like 20 guys at most at any given moment which is nothing compared to real musou games. It feels much more like a Ys game with how the boss fights are along with all of the other combat mechanics. They also want to ignore all of the story and rpg mechanics of the game and still dismiss it as a musou without actually knowing anything about the game.
To give context, Persona 5 Strikers was developed by Omega Force just like Fate/Samurai Remnant.

As a fan of KT that pretty much plays all of their new releases I'm impressed with the presentation of this game. The cutscenes are the real highlight along with the story. The fight cutscenes and noble phantasm cutscenes are so over the top that they are really amazing to watch. They spent a lot of time animating them all and it shows since it looks like something you would see from the ufotable aniamtions. I'm not even a real big fate fan but I've read the novel and seen the fsn and zero animations and I'm enjoying this game a lot.

I would agree but the game has a lot of moments where people address saber as a girl and they never say anything about it. Also the genders of historical figures mean nothing in Fate, just look at Artoria. Yamato Takeru was basically chosen to mirror king Arthur for this game as well to among other parallels. I'm going to go with Saber being a girl unless they specifically say otherwise.

For me its really the lack of some kind of extra mode like One Piece Warrios, FE and Zelda have. Were getting 3 DLC packs and im not really sure how their gonna work in the base game, maybe just add in standalone scenarios

Im gonna finish the game and I think overall I still like it but yeah both of you anons are right. There's so much filler I just had a section where we knew servants were being buttholes, Iori says we should go check on Rogue Lancer for NO reason to see if he's a dickhead, he is, I fight him, and then were like okay and move on. Why the frick wasnt this a sidequest??? Servant boss fights are the worst part of the game, if you arent spamming for Ripostes you will never break the shell gauge.
I actually enjoy the gameplay I just think this focus on bosses doesnt work for a 20 hour game, at least make the affinity gauge charge faster

But that's a visual novel, I don't think people would b***h about the shitty fights if they weren't shitty to play through. No boss fight actually plays differently. The core combat is still very Musou despite the Iori having stance swapping that gives him 5 movesets or the whole swapping to a servant after building up the gauge.
Im super invested in the story of Remanant and enjoy the errands especially when it lets me see the frickable rogue rider but it sucks ass whenever it makes me fight monsters or servants that take like 5 minutes if im lucky

Also if fights are taking too long then learn how to riposte better since that's ultimately the only way to kill things quick without constantly consuming items. The servants are also ultimately way weaker than what Iori can do in combat. I'm currently 40 hours in and I still enjoy the combat.

I disagree, I like nioh but not everything needs to be slow and methodical like souls games these days. Newer Ys games are basically the gold standard when it comes to action jrpgs and those games have basic as hell combat, it doesn't even have combos. Samurai Remnant is a lot more complex than Ys but it still has similar speed and mechanics from those games. The formula works great for what it's trying to do.

hey im that anon. I know how to do Riposte and I wouldn't really say the combat is like modern Ys, for sure the flash dodge is similar but the way bosses attack and the window of opportunity to do your combos are really really short, which for Ys isnt an issue cause you dont have a branching combo system like Musou movesets are in this game.
I also really wanna stress that I do enjoy the game overall, I just think boss fights being reduced down to "KEEP REPOSTING KEEP REPOSTING" is really boring. I know how to do it and its not that hard.

To be fair, Stay/Night and Kagetsu Tohya are the only Nasu VNs that take longer than an hour to get going. Tsukihime, Hollow Ataraxia and Mahoyo all hook the player pretty quick.

I would agree but the game has a lot of moments where people address saber as a girl and they never say anything about it. Also the genders of historical figures mean nothing in Fate, just look at Artoria. Yamato Takeru was basically chosen to mirror king Arthur for this game as well to among other parallels. It's just that musket at the time needed to be reloaded after every shot, and the reload time is too long to make musket an effective main weapon so they're only really used at the start of combat. Nobunaga only thought of "homies in 3 lines" formation to eliminate the reloading time.

Takeda Katsuyori (Nobunaga's opponent at that battle) was just a complete idiot. Numerous of his officers objected the charge and thought that it was suicidal but he brushed them all aside. That battle wasn't even the first time the Takeda faced off an army of musket.

i didn't test too much but i think the 2 cost ones like saber's water beam or any of the surfing/mount riding ones are good at draining shell gauge, and 1 cost is good for interrupting/stun locking

Iori at the end is almost as strong as a saber, which I assume is like a 4star servant. I like the idea of a master fighting alongside their servant but Iori, by FGO's standard can easily be slotted as a level 1 or 2 star servant. He's stupidly strong. And that's on top of him, barely mastering magic.
By FGO's standard he'll be the 4* welfare of the Collab if anything while Takeru is a 5*
The only times the protagonist wasn't the welfare of the Collab was when they didn't wanna bother creating a pseudo just for them
I think Takeru is closer to a 4 star. He doesn't feel as broken as the 5 stars in the musou games. Like compare Nero to Artoria in Extella/Link, Takeru is like about on par with Nero or slightly better. But then again, Charlie is a 5 star. Now I'm not too sure. But I feel like Takeru would fit somewhere in between Nero and Charlie.

It explain the rules of the Holy Grail War/Waxing Moon Ritual and how servants works well enough.It's also self-contained and there's even a compedium explainning most of the terminology of the Nasuverse.
You should be fine as long as you're at least somewhat invested in the setting.

Compared to F/SN and F/GO's later stuff, yes. But characters still constantly explain and repeat other character's explanations all the time. Some of the terminologies could have also been glossed over or explained in a much more condense and concise way, like Noble Phantasm for example. It could be explained in 2 or 3 sentences and yet the game dedicated half of the first meeting with Zheng Chenggong and Archer to drill into your head what the frick a Noble Phantasm is.

I find it hilarious that people are avoiding this game because it's a "musou". The boss fights make it hard to call a musou game especially with how frequent they are. Even the trash mob fights have you fighting like 20 guys at most at any given moment which is nothing compared to real musou games. It feels much more like a Ys game with how the boss fights are along with all of the other combat mechanics. They also want to ignore all of the story and rpg mechanics of the game and still dismiss it as a musou without actually knowing anything about the game.

As a fan of KT that pretty much plays all of their new releases I'm impressed with the presentation of this game. The cutscenes are the real highlight along with the story. The fight cutscenes and noble phantasm cutscenes are so over the top that they are really amazing to watch. They spent a lot of time animating them all and it shows since it looks like something you would see from the ufotable aniamtions. I'm not even a real big fate fan but I've read the novel and seen the fsn and zero animations and I'm enjoying this game a lot.

There's so much filler I just had a section where we knew servants were being buttholes, Iori says we should go check on Rogue Lancer for NO reason to see if he's a dickhead, he is, I fight him, and then were like okay and move on. Why the frick wasnt this a sidequest??? Servant boss fights are the worst part of the game, if you arent spamming for Ripostes you will never break the shell gauge.
I actually enjoy the gameplay I just think this focus on bosses doesnt work for a 20 hour game, at least make the affinity gauge charge faster

But that's a visual novel, I don't think people would b***h about the shitty fights if they weren't shitty to play through. No boss fight actually plays differently. The core combat is still very Musou despite the Iori having stance swapping that gives him 5 movesets or the whole swapping to a servant after building up the gauge.
Im super invested in the story of Remanant and enjoy the errands especially when it lets me see the frickable rogue rider but it sucks ass whenever it makes me fight monsters or servants that take like 5 minutes if im lucky
How far are you into the game because the boss fights are nothing like typical musou games. It's basically Ys with with the flash dodging / riposte. Also if fights are taking too long then learn how to riposte better since that's ultimately the only way to kill things quick without constantly consuming items. The servants are also ultimately way weaker than what Iori can do in combat. I'm currently 40 hours in and I still enjoy the combat.

NTA but his posts didn't say that the boss fights are typical musou games, only the core combat, which it is. But because the core combat is still typical musou stuff, it clashes with the idea of the boss fight being more about learning the boss' movements, dodging, riposting and breaking bars. Honestly the game would have been a lot better had the combat being more like Nioh, or at least Warriors: Legends of Troy.
This is why I couldn't get into P5S. The characters handle like a musou character but the levels are designed like a conventional action rpg.

I disagree, I like nioh but not everything needs to be slow and methodical like souls games these days. Newer Ys games are basically the gold standard when it comes to action jrpgs and those games have basic as hell combat, it doesn't even have combos. Samurai Remnant is a lot more complex than Ys but it still has similar speed and mechanics from those games. The formula works great for what it's trying to do.

I know how to do Riposte and I wouldn't really say the combat is like modern Ys, for sure the flash dodge is similar but the way bosses attack and the window of opportunity to do your combos are really really short, which for Ys isnt an issue cause you dont have a branching combo system like Musou movesets are in this game.
I also really wanna stress that I do enjoy the game overall, I just think boss fights being reduced down to "KEEP REPOSTING KEEP REPOSTING" is really boring. I know how to do it and its not that hard.
To be fair, Stay/Night and Kagetsu Tohya are the only Nasu VNs that take longer than an hour to get going. Tsukihime, Hollow Ataraxia and Mahoyo all hook the player pretty quick.

Iori at the end is almost as strong as a saber, which I assume is like a 4star servant. I like the idea of a master fighting alongside their servant but Iori, by FGO's standard can easily be slotted as a level 1 or 2 star servant. He's stupidly strong. And that's on top of him, barely mastering magic.
By FGO's standard he'll be the 4* welfare of the Collab if anything while Takeru is a 5*

If there's one thing I'd like to criticize about the franchise, I dislike how they set up the Saber Class as the strongest class. I feel like having "strongest" class just throws the balance away. Not to mention, way too many times the Saber class just randomly falls unto a random, destiny changing mage.
