    Spearow/Fearow has always been a staple of my kanto teams, it cuts through viridian Forest like butter and evolves very early for how good it is. Spearow is better than pidgey and fearow is better than pidgeotto AND pidgeot, and by the time you get access to Doduo flying types are much less useful. Very much the best gen 1 bird

    I've had fun with a lot of them, but the best in battle was Hawlucha. It did a lot in my UM run with Incineroar, and the pair had a nice theme.

    Corviknight.
    I befriended a murder of crows when I lived in Alaska and they're incredibly chill, so I bet a Corviknight would be pretty similar, just you know, massive.
