Dawn and Dusk is kino. Gold Quest is cringe as frick. The dark fantasy hack looks good but I couldn't get it to run

Pokemon Vega on GBA. Good looking fakemons, awesome custom music, and the game really puts up a fight compared to standard games. I also love how most routes are snowy. It used to be Japanese only but IIRC I think you can play it in English now.
quake 2 control bindings fix
mega man x5 and x6 de-shittified patches
learn to play the games gay,the games are so easy is kinda hard to understand how someone can say "it needs to be fixed" and make the game easier, the only problem with japanese titles in other countries is the censorship and shitty dubbing so restoring original acting is a must .
Dumb frick zoomer.
b3313 (solar plexus whatever) abandoned build
You need to cheat to get into the final area and half the stars have shared ids but that only makes the game better.
Mostly QoL such as Xenogears fast/instant text.
Or minor bugfixes.
Total Conversions are cool, but basically don't exist.
Zelda Redux fixed everything wrong with the first game, and now it's borderline playable finally.
>separate arrows from rupees
the coward's way out. Making money your ammo supply kept rupees relevant the whole adventure.
>kept rupees relevant the whole adventure.
not really
you just never end up using the bow because you need rupees through most of the game
Hoarding stuff is a bad habit in any game. When you realize there's only a handful of worthwhile purchases in the game and you'll be gaining rupees steadily throughout the entire thing, you'll realize you're better off firing the bow more often than you might think, it's fricking strong.
>there's only a handful of worthwhile purchases
they're expensive and I don't see the point in grinding for an hour to get enough money for the ring so I save throughout the game, wasting money on arrows is pointless
You're a fricking moron for not using the bow.
why would I waste rupees when the sword does the same thing?
The sword does not do the same thing. You cannot respond as quickly with multiple sword beams as you can with multiple arrows.
Cut the shit.
>it doesn't work as quick so it's not the same
I think you are the one that needs to cut the shit
Yeah. Enemies are moving around a room while you're waiting for your weapon to refresh.
Speed is everything.
They don't do the same fricking thing.
>Speed is everything.
then dont use range
don't know, like I said, no point in wasting rupees
>Speed is everything.
>then dont use range
No you dumb frick, speed is everything SO use range. The bow. It's the best.
I wouldn't call it the best, bombs work on damn near everything and do insane damage. It's just you only get 8 shots to start with.
I'm not gonna argue with that guy anymore regarding the rupees/arrows thing. It's a case of different strokes for different folks, though I still think it's a big brain play.
I'm just happy to talk about Zelda 1 combat mechanics, I think it's a neat game. I'm not sure if I'd call them ROM hacks but Zelda Classic and a lot of the custom quests made for that engine are incredible.
Depends on which sword. The bow deals white sword damage, and of course it's the best way of killing Pols Voice. My memory of vanilla Zelda 1 is hazy but I don't think sword beams got stronger as you got better swords.
>I don't think sword beams got stronger as you got better swords
They do. Nobody's had a Vire or Zol split because they were too far away. The bow really isn't good for much but Pols Voice cleanup and required fights.
List some good ZC quests. The only decent ones I know are Stranded and Legend of Link, and they're both kinda jank.
>List some good ZC quests.
Gladly:
Link and Zelda: Panoply of Calatia
Zelda's Butt
Link's Quest for the Hookshot 2
In the Lost Kingdom of the Banana Blood God
The Slipstream
Mike's Funhouse
The Depths of Malice
A Link to the Shadows
I adore Zelda 1's combat and gameplay, and a lot of Zelda Classic quests build upon it in a way that I really, really like.
Thanks, I'll try these.
>The Depths of Malice
I played this one. It was surreal. The gay mixed raced couple you play as isn't woke enough to defeat the final boss so you have to get a black woman to do it. Celeste music played
I just liked it because it had one of the best ways to approach bombable walls I've seen in a Zelda game: Using arrows to detect secret shit, so you're still investing a resource but not as an expensive one. The deployable step ladder was cool too.
Panoply of Calatia is also really noteworthy because I think it does the kitchen sink approach of adding shit pretty well, you get a metric frickton of items and tools.
I tried Panoply of Calatia before, but had trouble with all the buttons and mechanics introduced right from the start. On your recommendation I'll give it another shot someday. Right now I'm more interested in Link to the Shadows, The Slipstream, and making my own Z1 knockoff
>Depths of Malice
Yeah, there were a lot of solid ideas and atmospheric locations in DoM and I wish the creators didn't choke the life out of it with the terrible fanfiction drama. I'm gonna b***h about it for another paragraph because I've always wanted to but never found a place to do it.
See, I really tried to give it the benefit of the doubt. Even when genocided Gerudo princes came up I thought "Oh, that makes sense. Hylians have been fighting Ganondorfs for so many generations they can't remember why. Of course they'd keep bumping off male Gerudo out of habit." But no, it's an alternate history where Ganon's not even a thing! Gerudo were always pure perfect children so they can write a thin allegory for white oppression. What a waste.
Link's Quest for the Hookshot 2 is REALLY goddamn good, so if you were give any of those a shot. That's the one I'd recommend, Link to the Shadows has some solid dungeons and kickass tracker music
>Spoiler
Do it, Anon. It's going to be quite some time before I pursue that myself. As for the DoM thing, it wouldn't surprise me as the dev of that particular quest has a problem with WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS in his other quests and wanting to be high-brow, but more than anything you get the impression that he just has his head up his own ass.
>Link's Quest for the Hookshot 2 is REALLY goddamn good, so if you were give any of those a shot. That's the one I'd recommend
Thanks, that's helpful. I wouldn't have come to that conclusion on my own. Like, if you were scrolling through ROM hacks and saw "Samus' Mission for the Grappling Hook 4" you wouldn't think "yes, this is the one I need to try"
Also when you're ready to take the plunge into the deep end, go for Mike's Funhouse. Some of the sprites are ugly and the autism is strong in that quest, but it has some immensely enjoyable dungeons. It's borderline Kaizo at times but I'd say it's fair and consistent, mostly.
>Making money your ammo supply kept rupees relevant
no? it just reduced your ability to spend rupees because they were getting used up.
NOW you can buy some arrows, and the bow is relevant the whole game.
post this to scare X5 defenders
Isn't that from X6?
Typo
It’s from X6. Also you will never convince me that level is bad: it’s cheap, has a stupid gimmick, and overly short, but the music kicks so much ass that I don’t care about anything else.
Mega Man fans not defending bad/rushed game design chip challenge.
I've actually never played any romhacks aside from Pokémon red randomizer, not sure if that counts.
Is there anything good for uh sonic or maybe rocket knight adventures?
>Sonic
There's a whole bunch of Sonic hacks, ranging from stuff like Megamix to Knuckles' Emerald Hunt. Hit up Sonic Retro, you'll find a lot of them there.
Pokémon Different™. It's completely moronic, I love it.
Is dawn and dusk supposed to be difficult or am I a bad player?
Final Fantasy 6 romhack, Brave New World. Easily my favorite romhack. Makes the gameplay difficulty simply perfect for a JRPG. Like a gold standard for me now, I end up comparing every other JRPG to it. Also the sampling of bonus content is exactly what you're looking for. I can't praise it enough.
I've tried plenty of other romhacks. Some are pretty good. Too many of them try to fix things that aren't broken and ruin the experience a bit too much for me.
Super Metroid: Super ZeroMission
Super Metroid: Hyper Metroid
bunch of other sm related romhacks
You tried Subversion, right? For me that one was in a class of its own
yeah, forgot about that one. should be right there in the top 3. the regular normal version was already one of the best hacks but the hardmode holy frick what a twist. better than the inverted castle from sotn ngl.
Super Metroid Subversion is the perfect sequel/ side game for it. It's the Majora's Mask of Metroid.
The community is overrun by trannies because the tools are so good and available now, but the GBA fire emblem hacking scene has created some great stuff like Andaron Saga, and some powerful cringekino like The Last Promise
Which hack is your screenshot from?
Thinking about playing Super Metroid Arcade, seems fun the "roguelike" gimmick it has.
That one ocarina of time hack that used music from skies of Arcadia and rage against the machine was pretty based
Pokemon Revelation for Emerald. No absurd difficulty-spiking, no retconning in Fairy-type or newer Pokemon, no text rewrites. Just all Pokemon available in one game and plenty of engine improvements for a faster and more satisfying playthrough.
My favorite hack is called "Master Quest".
Mine is majoras mask
Legitimately Master Quest is so lazy and poorly made that I can barely believe that it actually ended up being released, let alone was anything like what the planned expansion of OoT was originally supposed to be like.
It's like, you'd expect it be be something like LoZ second quest, but it doesn't offer new dungeons, quests or really anything and just shuffles a bunch of object spawns around and calls it a day, like they got some intern to shoe it off to because its scope got so cut down.
Like, they were originally going to let you take photos, 'generate' and share new dungeon layouts, have objects and even footprints persist even after you exited an area etc. and they just dropped that when the DD fell out.
