i want to play more imperial guard, but theyre just not that good against the unholy spam of xenos in 4v4s vs harder AI. i have much better success with space marines.
Rush a Tactical Command and spam grenade launchers. Opposing infantry is rendered a non-issue until the enemy starts fielding vehicles, but by that point you should have a couple of Sentinels running about to keep them in check.
Also, abuse the Command Squad, it's one of the best duellist commanders in the game. It can tie up opposing commanders really well and can chew through basic squads much faster.

Can relate. I can basically handle any threat in the game except mass shooters from distance as I rock the shotgun. As long as anyone else on the team can deal with that, I can take the rest.
I got 3 curios with gunner resistance and they still get me.
Now I hug corners like a motherfricker and dropped the dumb ogryn machinegun for the explosive gun.
I tried using the automatic gun and it didn't really work. Didn't consider the exploding dropper as it felt like it was just a disruptor rather than a killer, but I guess that's the point.

I thought Necron Warrior spam in the original game was annoying but at least manageable because of their relatively low squad numbers and lumbering movement, but holy shit frick me if the gray tide comes marching along in a “low point game” due to how bullshit gauss weapons are.
