Those images still come up as corrupt/unable to post when trying to post them on Ganker or something. I have to open paint, copy the image and save as jpg every single time.

That's because in addition to being a container that can hold the other types, it also has its own format that can be used. Absolute trash. And here I remember when everyone was up MS's ass about inventing bullshit that was only compatible with Internet Explorer. Today Google does it constantly and the only thing passing the lips of normalgays is semen and "Please sir, I want some more."

Get the "save webp as png or jpeg" extension, and give it clipboard access. Now when you open a png you can click a button to copy it to your clipboard, and then when you're writing a post you can hit ctrl+v to paste the image (at least if you're using Gankerx, I'm not sure if it works vanilla.
Or you can just use the extension to save it directly as a jpeg or png

It might be a Ganker X feature but you can paste any image or .webm into the post and it should automatically upload it. Windows capture automatically copies to clipboard.

      >first four pages are all AI generated SEO garbage with twenty paragraphs of nonsense you didn't ask for before they get to the point

Shit like this has made using the internet an arduous chore. One of the primary benefits of the internet was accessibility to information, and now it's the opposite. Google, what was once the most powerful search engine, it's completely useless. Results are almost entirely SEO garbage with no information, and all you can do is manually filter the results. Alternative search engines are no better.
uBlock, "I don't care about cookies", BreezeWiki (redirects fandom sites to a cleaner mirror), and other extensions are all you can do at this point. Webshit has managed to regress one of the most powerful technologies into an unusable nightmare.

      >microsoft forums with incredibly hit or miss answers made by microsoft windows ''''''''''experts'''''''''
Probably the single worst thing of troubleshooting any Windows problem. These gays will say everything except the actual solution, making everyone suffer. This is doubly true for the people who actually consult them that are forced to wait forever in between non answers and being told to update Windows.

I fricking hate this shit so much it's unreal. SEO and all the other problems with the internet make it so much worse. These support forum threads always go the same way: OP will describe the issue in detail and what they've tried to fix it, then moron Certified Senior Microsoft Expert™ Pajeet Singh replies with the same boilerplate garbage not even addressing the issue. "Reinstall Windows", "Run antivirus", "restart your PC". Then they'll close the thread and mark it as solved. Random YouTube comments from 6 years ago will describe how to fix the problem, not "official support".

I guaran fricking tee that all it would take for Ganker to support webp uploads would be a single line in the config changed, from
        >image/jpg, image/png, image/gif, video/webm
        to
        >image/jpg, image/png, image/gif, image/webp, video/webm
All of the backend software, imagemagick etc., has supported webp for years. It's literally just maintainers refusing to do a basic bit of fricking maintenance.

        >mfw seeing fluoridated NPC's on twatter defend webp saying it's so much better and lighter than PNG and JPG with such good quality and that it's impopular because of le evil dumb tech industry who didn't implement it well

It's not the tech industry at large, some kind of conspiracy or something. At large webp is well supported, it's literally just sysadmins and package maintainers being lazy fricks (and I can say this because I am a sysadmin) refusing to make it easy for users to use. It's the last link of the chain making it hard on you.

Also to tell on myself a bit:
iOS doesn't support webm which is insanely well established. I run a website that serves a bunch of video files in webm and mp4 format. My boss keeps asking me to implement a support library to help iToddlers watch the webms, it's like a webm decoder that loads in the browser or something. And I keep putting it off.

That's what's fricking with you. That's why you have such trouble with webp, is people like me being too goddamn lazy to do our jobs. I'm still not going to implement that webm decoder after making this post.

fandom and reddit are both websites that convert pngs hosted on their website to webp. they're actually hosted as pngs but are being converted automatically by the website because your browser has webp listed as an accpeted format. a little bit of code can prevent it from happening.

The Discord shit drives me absolutely fricking insane. I don't know how a fricking Teamspeak clone started replace forums.

So much information and discussion is now sequestered away into private little areas gated by proprietary software. We're witnessing a fricking internet Dark Age happen before our eyes. All internet history will be clearly traceable up to a certain point and then will just fricking stop as Discord takes that all and deletes it forever.

And yeah, the slow squeezing away of privacy through garbage like phone number identification. Using the internet in the future means 20 fricking privacy and filter add-ons and burner phone numbers to get the same default experience of 2004 internet. It's absolutely rancid.

It's been happening for a long time now. How many old forums died because it was hacked and the Admin either didn't have a backup or just couldn't be bothered? How many web1.0 websites are still around? How much information has been thrown away because 3rd party imagehosting websites deleted those images to save disk space?

You're correct, but archiving and scraping still existed. The information was just there and you could go grab it and file it away somewhere if needed.
Now that's not even an option, all that stuff is tucked away in little boxes you can't get to.

It's like seeing Humanity regress. For a brief instance in our human experience, we were all conversing in a shared space instead of limited by geographical or organisational barriers. Now we're back to that shit again, everyone going into little rooms and little cults to keep all their precious information secret.

                Anonymous

Sounds like what we need is a discord scraper, that retrieves all downloadable files and builds a basic HTML copy of the chat(maybe even using AI to filter out useless rambling).

                Anonymous

                >but archiving and scraping still existed.
Registered-user-only subforums also existed, which scraping wouldn't grab unless it somehow managed to have an account to said forum with proper permissions. Navigating old forum archives even these days is also a gamble as to whether or not the old archived links are formatted in a way that the archive can handle, else you'll just run into errors or blank pages with absolutely nothing.

Regression is basically guaranteed when people believe they don't need to pass on their knowledge because the people of the future won't need it, and that's happened a lot over the past 50 years.

Did a job for that last year, proofchecking search engines and reviewing results. It taught me how vile SEO is and how so many websites just do scraped content that's the most soul suckingly generic. I remember looking up BG3 builds and I'd get these fly-by-night probably run by Pajeet websites that would offer the most inane homosexualry tips instead of actual earnestly made content. It'd be like "best BG3 paladin build" and it'd just list the fricking spells and everything in the class. Not in terms of godly rpgbot where they are ranked and explained but more like someone just went and grabbed the wiki page and shoved it on their site now watch our ads please good sirs do not redeem the ublock sirs.

Even worse if you are searching for any, ANY kind of practical information. Like pet behavior, cleaning bathrooms, whatever. Strangely enough cooking and recipes is the one area where even with mommy-blogging spamming you with their life story you actually get meaningful content at the end instead of Rajesh wasting your time with platitudes and the most copy-and-pasted boilerplate responses about a subject.

.jfif is annoying because it's just a jpeg file and someone in the pipeline from the web app to the web server to your browser to your OS should be able to solve it. Either recognize it as a canonical jpeg file extension or serve the correct extension or whatever. I'll also go to bat for webp and avif for similar reasons, they are just objectively better formats than jpeg and png, with good library support, and application developers refuse to make it easy for you to use them. Fricking webp support on Ganker when?

Oh Im not talking about that front. I dont expect those things to ever go away.
I meant UX improvements for storing and searching art, like better tag system, a better archive with indexing for searching different images, etc.

See all those issues are connect. Did you notice how rarely artists use hashtags now? Why? There is big chance to get ban for using hashtags. Especially similar hashtags for multiple pictures not even posted in the same day. Shadowbans prevent them from appearing in search even if you click their hashtag. Or they can be marked as bots and nuked without explanation.

Youtube asks me for an ID when I attempt to watch an age restricted video, even though my account is old enough for the possibility of being to be minimal. Add to that the fact that youtube videos get age restricted for basically no reason half the time, the site has declined considerably since the mid 2010s. Oh and frick double ads.

Ironically, I've never seen porn sites do the second. Half the time, you can clearly see the porn thumbnails before they prompt you for your age with nothing more than a simple yes/no check. Meanwhile, 99% of normalgay sites want phone numbers just to browse them

That c**t Fextra is doing it for Dragon's Dogma currently. I went to that shitpit of a site for one reason or another and saw his gay botting stream playing it, obviously prepping for DD2. Hate that motherfricker so much. There's already a well-documented wiki, and has been for years now. That homosexual is such an awful wiki creator. Most of the other wikis he makes are not even half complete or filled with so much misinformation.

      Anonymous

Wait it's a guy behind this? Why the frick don't wikis just ban him on sight?

        Anonymous

It's pretty much a single guy behind Fextra and I don't think they really can? I don't know how wikis really work in terms of rules and hosting. And while others can add/ edit the articles, they're completely filled with bullshit because he's the one that initially makes the pages by playing the game as much as possible and trying to complete it before anyone else so he can be the top result. Top that with embedding his stream (can't do it anymore from twitch lmao) so his stream was artificially viewed on twitch, he's a fricking scumbag host. Now he's got his own hosted stream site because twitch doesn't allow embedding anymore. He might, keyword "might", also be paying google or whoever to make sure his wiki is always top result. Call me a schizo for that, but the other shit is 100% true.

Aside from being on fandom, the DD wiki is pretty good. I don't know why people who clearly care about a series choose to set up shop there in the first place, the experience is horrible. Goes for reddit too.

Were Fandom and Reddit designed by the same guy? They're literally as inefficient as sites can be, bloated to the point of near-unusability, riddled with intrusive ads. I'm thankful this place, in comparison, barely changed since 2004. Way more intuitive at every level.

Probably the single worst thing of troubleshooting any Windows problem. These gays will say everything except the actual solution, making everyone suffer. This is doubly true for the people who actually consult them that are forced to wait forever in between non answers and being told to update Windows.
