>massive slowdown
I played through the game twice on PSP and just thought it slowed down for dramatic effect. It wasn't until years later that I was informed it wasn't intentional. It's not a "massive" slowdown, or anything game breaking.
there's a mod out there that transfers WotL into the PSX version, it's a lot beter than the OF wotl, the in map cutscenes are all fricked on the PSP because of the aspect ratio sadly
FFT on the PSX is peak kino and actually looks like a play on dioramas
I may be biased since FFTA was my very first FF game but I think it's better than Tactics. Tactics is still an excellent game though.
It was cool seeing you could let Montblanc die in a jagd and he stays dead in the story.
>Any tips for FF Tactic?
Calculator with holy and everyone wearing holy absorb equipment is one of many ways you can absolutely shred the game.
Steal everything you can.
Thanks for the tip! I'm killing it with Hunter/Morpher duo and a Blue Mage. Honestly I think FFTA would be a great online mobile game for battling other players various but equal setups
sounds like concentrate/last breath all over again kek
>Any tips for FF Tactic?
there is room in your roster for every unique character plus 3 generics
there are 3 specific better-than-average generics, Alicia, Lavian, and Ladd/Rad (translation) who will join your party as part of the story
you will need parties of 3 generics for sidejobs
hint hint
that's pretty helpful, I remember there being a few unique characters you can recruit for your clan in ffta
the characters with sword arts are strong enough to solo the game
If you want a challenge you can just use random characters
The strongest combination is a ninja base class for the speed bonus and calculator as the secondary class.
For new players, there are a few difficulty spikes that your party might be hard countered by, so have a few rotating save slots.
Tactics is better.
GBA could have been "different but just as good" if battle animations played out faster, making it bite-sized Tactics. Instead everything is still just as slow as regular Tactics, but with significantly less strategy needed.
Play the War of the Lions version. Use the Animation Speed Up patch. Don't play it like Advance.
Don't overextend, your units are much squishier and enemies hit harder than in Advance.
Story battles have set enemy levels. Random battles scale with your highest level unit, not the average of your party like Advance.
Skills come from leveling up job classes (having a character fight others and win battles while in a job) and cannot be permanently learnt from weapons.
Keep multiple saves. There are two points in the game where you will get stuck in a gauntlet of fights and cannot go back to do any grinding if you lose.
Bards are by far the worst class and a slog to play. Ban Calculators, they trivialize the game. Onion Knight is a meme.
Every other class is viable (if not optimal).
I'll be using an emulator on my android so I'll be keeping multiple saves plus I'll check out the animation speed up patch
The original is better in pretty much every way. The law system in FFTA is a huge negative. The addition of a race system might seem to add some depth to character customization and job options, but all it really does is make it so each unit actually has fewer options to compliment their base job with, since so many are race-exclusive.
But also,

I would recommend against using a very overpowered magic sword knight you get about midpoint, he stomps the game way too easily. I prefer to just build an army of generics and mix and match.
just finished my first play of it here. first off, even though there's permadeath stick with a party of 5, no reason to grind and level up more customs. random encounter enemies scale with you highest leveled character, but hitting an enemy (or ally, no difference) of higher level gives you more exp. don't bother grinding out jobs for shit you don't need. auto-potion is better than hamedo. i clocked about a hundred hours and could def have been smarter about it. oh yeah, and for autenticity's sake i went with the PSX original - consider not playing that because the translation is atrocious, much worse than FF7 at the time.
How does anyone not drop ffta like 10 levels in, it's so fricking boring. it just makes all of the annoyances in fft like having to grind to experiment with anything even worse
A2 had a lot of good changes compared to the previous game but not starting with full MP makes using any casters other than Viera abusing Blood Magic annoying
Wasn't Sidewinder extra damage from back attacks? Extra damage to monsters was something else
And of course one of the few classes Gria could be was Hunters and they can just fly behind everything.
Tactics is better from a story and setting perspective, A and A2 are better from a gameplay perspective. All of the Ivalice games are strong with some faults, outside of Revenant Wings but that doesn't really count. Probably the last good era of Square, when they still had a semblance of talent.
I'm still mad they veered into isekai shit with FFT. That said, first FFT Advance was alright, but it did not have the same amount of charm FFT had. It was good enough that I beat it despite being sort of unhappy at the direction at the time and in retrospect, REALLY hating it, since it's the only direct continuation of FFT we will ever have gotten period.
To me isekai always feels like the story will have no stakes.
I still enjoyed FFTA but I couldn't give much of a shit about many of the characters and what happened to them. For all we know as soon as they "died" they would go back to the real world or were a made up character from the book anyway
I may be biased since FFTA was my very first FF game but I think it's better than Tactics. Tactics is still an excellent game though.
It was cool seeing you could let Montblanc die in a jagd and he stays dead in the story.
what happens to characters that die in Ivalice after Mewt returns the world back to normal?
>fantasy world with political intrigue, dark magic and knights, constant backstabbing and betrayals >hey you're a kid living a dream with all his animal buddies
I remember being a kid and loading Advance for the first time and being hugely fricking disappointed when I realized it wasn't the same world or tone
I prefer TA having a more meta and personal story tbh. We all shill Tactics here but honestly I can't remember much of it other than weird ZZ moment with the brother sister incest or something.
I never could take A2 seriously, I remember the main character having some really stupid large pizza cutter sword thing and I just didn't really dig it.
He never had that in game, that was also a thing from FFTA1.
After you complete all 300 missions you get special Judge missions. Cid joins your party to beat all judges and one of his special attacks is the Judge Sword.
Both FFTA and FFTA2 concept art show the main character using it, though they never actually do get it.
PSX Final Fantasy Tactics with the War of the Lions script patched in. You get a translation that makes sense while keeping the better sound. In any case, just don't play the android/apple version that has the "HD" reworked graphics, they're hilariously bad, probably outsourced to some chink artists.
It bothers me that SE forgot that FFT exists, and didn't even port it to PC, there is a goddamn mobile version but not a PC one.
No new tactics games as well, just frickin pain
I was more surprised they remembered Tactics Ogre exists long enough for a remake
Maybe the devs they dragged together for that will get to work on something new like the Mana remake guys did
I'm starting to lose hope in that the FFT-remake they mentioned on the nvidia leaks, and that it was just Tactics Ogre all along and someone misread it.
And with the Murayama death out of nowhere, i'm worried that Matsuno just croaks too
I think various SE people have said things publicly that hint toward FFT.
An interview last year (or something) had someone from the Brave Exvius team explain that they didn't have many crossovers with FFT because they always ask the people who originally worked on a game for input when doing crossovers and he said "the FFT team is too busy right now."
Plus I'm pretty sure the nVidia Leak was a straight-up list. Nothing to misinterpret there. If the Actraiser remake was true, I'm sure FFT will come.
SE is just spacing out their remakes. We got Live A Live, TO:Reborn, Legend of Mana, Crystal Chronicles, etc.
The Nvidia leaks just meant at some point they were testing some shit out on it, the original list was just a copy-paste of the list from the drivers I don't think it was a misread off a blurry monitor
Stuff does get cancelled or delayed internally all the time though, no way of knowing unless you work there
Thieves were busted as frick the very second you had Cinquedea and another character that could cast Stop or Sleep
Steal Ability was so fricking broken, they removed it from A2 entirely. A damn shame, it made grinding that much easier.
Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lion on PSP
>That massive slowdown whenever you cast a spell
There's a patch to fix that.
>massive slowdown
I played through the game twice on PSP and just thought it slowed down for dramatic effect. It wasn't until years later that I was informed it wasn't intentional. It's not a "massive" slowdown, or anything game breaking.
And its fixable with a patch.
How do you install a patch on PSP?
Who the frick still uses a psp?
Also google.
there's a mod out there that transfers WotL into the PSX version, it's a lot beter than the OF wotl, the in map cutscenes are all fricked on the PSP because of the aspect ratio sadly

She should fulfill my wish to have her squeeze my rock hard yogurt cannon with those creamy, jiggly thighs.
I may be biased since FFTA was my very first FF game but I think it's better than Tactics. Tactics is still an excellent game though.
It was cool seeing you could let Montblanc die in a jagd and he stays dead in the story.
Not canonically since he appears in FFXII
FF12 takes place in real Ivalice and FFTA takes place in a fake Ivalice.
but are clan centurio mog and clan nazi mog the same mog?
FFTA takes place in an imaginary isekai ivalice anyway.
I'm playing FFTA this weekend and am having a blast, getting close to endgame stuff and I plan on completing it. Any tips for FF Tactic?

thanks for the help everyone
Calculator is stupid class, I’ve never had it in FFT just because of how long it takes to get, there’s no point
The worst part of this is that holy takes a million years to animate, at least use thundaja and rubber boots and instead
Played FFTA as a horny 14 year old and always loved the Viera portraits
dangerously based, I saved a ton of stuff off the wiki a while back

Literal shit combo. Ninja has terrible MA. Your spells will be weak as frick.
Tactics is better.

Bard is OP as frick you get to cast yell on your entire team
I would recommend against using a very overpowered magic sword knight you get about midpoint, he stomps the game way too easily. I prefer to just build an army of generics and mix and match.

A2
based, although the game becomes way too easy if you do all the side quests.
You can easily break the game with mirror item as soon as you beat the antlion boss. Sidequests are irrelevant.
Thiiiiiis
They're both different and both kino in their own way. Stop being autistic and play both.
War of the Lions
ps1, it isn't even a debate.
i think even advance 2 is better than advance 1
So this is where my veil fetish started from. Now I remember.
veils give belly dancing vibes
How does anyone not drop ffta like 10 levels in, it's so fricking boring. it just makes all of the annoyances in fft like having to grind to experiment with anything even worse
have a nice day.
FFT is 10/10
FFTA is 7/10
Haven't played FFTA2.
And haven't met a person who prefers FFTA whose first gaming platform wasn't GBA.
A2 had a lot of good changes compared to the previous game but not starting with full MP makes using any casters other than Viera abusing Blood Magic annoying
>just bring hunters for everything because aside from a couple bossfights, most of the tough stuff counts as a monster and gets sidewinder'd
Wasn't Sidewinder extra damage from back attacks? Extra damage to monsters was something else
And of course one of the few classes Gria could be was Hunters and they can just fly behind everything.
Advance
Tactics for the story, A2 for character building.
Tactics is better from a story and setting perspective, A and A2 are better from a gameplay perspective. All of the Ivalice games are strong with some faults, outside of Revenant Wings but that doesn't really count. Probably the last good era of Square, when they still had a semblance of talent.
?si=6iWn-NZA41gc3NV6
I don't know what the worse crime is, Ezels speed or the existence of the Astrolger class.
Both are very different, you should play both
I never played it, but I like the pink haired girl’s boobie cups
FFTA plays faster and the other races are cool to have, but its not a better game than FFT
I'm still mad they veered into isekai shit with FFT. That said, first FFT Advance was alright, but it did not have the same amount of charm FFT had. what happens to characters that die in Ivalice after Mewt returns the world back to normal?
They come back to life in the real world. Eveything in fake ivalice is fake, including deaths.
WOO NO CONSEQUENCES
Yeah it's a happy ending.
Well yeah they are actual school children playing make believe in a fake world. The main characters are all 12 year olds.
Marche's brother has to be a cripple again
Still better than escapism
He's literally only a cripple because he refuses to do his rehab because it was too hard.
>fantasy world with political intrigue, dark magic and knights, constant backstabbing and betrayals
>hey you're a kid living a dream with all his animal buddies
I remember being a kid and loading Advance for the first time and being hugely fricking disappointed when I realized it wasn't the same world or tone

That's your problem, I remember plenty of Tactics, it's a great story. No need to be contrarian
Original tactics, much better story, better gameplay and better music
For me, it's FFTA but that's only because I've played it a lot and I haven't played much of FFT on the Playstation
is A2 anygood?
Sparse on plot, a couple nice sidequests though.
A couple extra playable races and jobs but the new races only get 4 jobs each.
I never could take A2 seriously, I remember the main character having some really stupid large pizza cutter sword thing and I just didn't really dig it.
He never had that in game, that was also a thing from FFTA1.

Cid gives you the judge sword in the 300 mission ending of FFTA1 but you don’t use it in gameplay.
Bishop class can also use Judge as a spell
GBA because you get to play as the villain.
Only redditors think Marche was the good guy.

A2 has the best gameplay. Tactics has the best story.
Original FFT has yet to be topped. Splitting the jobs up by race and gating skills to equipment was a step backwards.
Thieves were busted as frick the very second you had Cinquedea and another character that could cast Stop or Sleep
Steal Ability was so fricking broken, they removed it from A2 entirely. A damn shame, it made grinding that much easier.
their art style in FFTA really hits it home, I like Viera in other titles but this style's my favorite
