Healer DPS is like 15-20% of a good raid's output, with how moronicly overtuned DPS checks are in modern high end content you wouldn't even come close to beating anything without your healers spamming their one button rotation.
14 raid design has moved away from healers needing to heal ever since HW, so yes apparently it is hard for Yoshi's team.
But none of them play or even care about the healer role so look forward to yet another 2 years of riveting one button gameplay to meet the strict enrage timers.

Healing and XIV's raid design is more fundamentally broken than just trying to shoehorn in some half-assed heal checks.
Oh no, the farming stage becomes monotonous, how awful. That totally invalidates the progression step.
Plus I'm talking making the entire fight a heal check, but the way healers are designed wouldn't work out for it without them all being pretty reworked.

NOBODY playing healer wants to be a Green DPS (other than ARR scholars), if they reworked the game to require constant healing then the vast majority of healers would be extremely happy, but it just isn't going to happen.
So what we're are saying is that if the game is just a giant DPS check and healers are expected to dish out almost 20% of the raid's damage whilst keeping people alive, then at least make doing that damage fun and not relegated to a single button with an intermittent dot refresh.

It's so fricking stupid that i can just tap a button right after a cast to heal like 40% of the damage a raid wide dealt.
I miss the ARR days when you had to Clerics and time your dps around keeping the tank alive because of how much regular hits dealt.
Now auto attacks may as well not exist because kardia/fairy/regen/ast regen and tank heals just totally negate them.
I don't mind them because they're funny in an autistic kind of way but like at a certain point you would be much better served by just playing second life

I remember once i was leveling an alt and arrived at Hingashi. It was about past 1am and there was no one except some fem miqo who waved at me or something, and i returned the emote. I went around several parts of the city because it had been a while since i was there, and everytime i stopped at a some spot, that femiqo came and emoted differently at me again then stayed near me, no matter where i went, until i got to a solo MSQ area... Then several minutes later i got out and she was still there, saw me, and started again.

Lancer has a majorly janky leveling skill curve, but a lot of jobs feel a bit wonky in the 50-60 range.
Some feel that way until as high as 80, like Reaper (which makes first impressions of it really janky because it just feels incomplete until then)
56 and 58 is when DRG starts to open up into itself because you get Fang and Claw then Wheeling Thrust to make the rotations better flow together. 60 is typically the "oh now I get it" point for DRG for those who aren't still feeling it, and if after that point you STILL don't like it then it's time to pick another job.
Guess I'll keep up until 60, and back up into gunbreaker as a plan B if I don't feel it yet. Proud [spoiler]disappointed of you all for not picking up the bait.[/spoiler]

Most of those mods are free and work within the day. Now the animation change mods like Vergil Abilities for Samurai or Nero for Gunbreaker and such aren't free, which is stupid as frick, but most of that actual Savage/Ultimate cheating stuff works pretty quickly and is free.

In all fairness XIV healing has never been that involved when you compare it to other games, I don't enjoy it but they've pretty much stuck to their guns since the beginning. I've always thought the best way to fix it would be to have more steady damage on tanks and start with that to get them casting GCD heals regularly.

Also at the time they were big enough while the gaming audience was small enough you could rely on other gamers you met irl probably playing one of em meaning it was a “worthwhile time investment” to have a decent character in one of those games so you could meet up online and actually play together.
Now theres hundreds of contemporary popular games with online that lets you play with others right off the bat after a short tutorial, many of which support cross play, and are cheap or free.

p5-8 when it was current content actually required healers to heal more and they quit party finder en masse. i think yoshi and the dev team need to just stick to their guns and not give a shit what crybabies complain about.
And then 4 weeks and 10 ilevels later the healing is obsolete and you're back to spamming Glare for another 6 months.
Healing and XIV's raid design is more fundamentally broken than just trying to shoehorn in some half-assed heal checks.
Oh no, the farming stage becomes monotonous, how awful. That totally invalidates the progression step.
Plus I'm talking making the entire fight a heal check, but the way healers are designed wouldn't work out for it without them all being pretty reworked.
NOBODY playing healer wants to be a Green DPS (other than ARR scholars), if they reworked the game to require constant healing then the vast majority of healers would be extremely happy, but it just isn't going to happen.
So what we're are saying is that if the game is just a giant DPS check and healers are expected to dish out almost 20% of the raid's damage whilst keeping people alive, then at least make doing that damage fun and not relegated to a single button with an intermittent dot refresh.

I'm thinking of going up to 60 then giving gunbreaker a try. At least as a tank I'll rid myself of the awful wait times for dungeons.
I also don't want to grind another class up before I'm done with ARR. When do I get the ability to fly exactly?

I did get dragoon. I was specifically talking about learning the last two jump skills after 45-50 from the quests. The game literally told me to beat ARR before I could progress with my job.

Lancer has a majorly janky leveling skill curve, but a lot of jobs feel a bit wonky in the 50-60 range.
Some feel that way until as high as 80, like Reaper (which makes first impressions of it really janky because it just feels incomplete until then)
56 and 58 is when DRG starts to open up into itself because you get Fang and Claw then Wheeling Thrust to make the rotations better flow together. 60 is typically the "oh now I get it" point for DRG for those who aren't still feeling it, and if after that point you STILL don't like it then it's time to pick another job.
Guess I'll keep up until 60, and back up into gunbreaker as a plan B if I don't feel it yet.

In all fairness XIV healing has never been that involved when you compare it to other games, I don't enjoy it but they've pretty much stuck to their guns since the beginning. I've always thought the best way to fix it would be to have more steady damage on tanks and start with that to get them casting GCD heals regularly.
