Just finished it. The story does fell off really bad in the last portion of the game.
I really liked what they had at the start, but once you finish it you get a completely different image of the game.

I'm enjoying myself. Combat is fun, I like Clive and friends, the lore is well written, the women are attractive, and haven't seen a single black person.
I had more fun with XV than I have with XVI so far, so it's understandable.

VII, VIII, IX and X were all released one (or nearly one) year apart while Square employees snorted cocaine, took acid, swung from the rafters and wrote whatever wacky shit suited their fancy. The golden era was defined by an intense high of creativity. That isn't easily accessed or regained, and it's the spark that FF has been trying to recapture ever since X.
