Not recently, since 13 the games have trended more and more towards just being action adventure games, 15 padded out its lenght with a pointless semi-open world full of nothing so there's a lot of downtime just driving from one location to the next, 16 didn't seem to bother even with that so it really is just sligly longer than your average DMC.
If you want an actual RPG with 100 hours of content you're better off playing a Xeno game.
If the game has a roman numeral and no subtitle, it's a standalone thing
FF4, 7, 10 and 13 have sequels/prequels (7 has them in various media)
15 has a weird tie-in movie that tells you what actually happens in the first few hours and a lot of dlc to patch some holes in the story
11 and 14 are the mmos and thus have story expansions, 11 is just an EQ clone with a story that's relatively disjointed without a guide, while 14 is a clone of older WoW without any builds and a story that runs continuously through each expansion

I'll ask if you can go a little but further into this. I absolutely agree with you and very much think I know where you're going with it, but your reply might be the best I've seen thus far.
I mean, aesthetically, plot, even the type of fantasy it goes for. Is it on the more fantasy side? Is it steampunk? Is whatever the frick VIII was going for? Even the way it handled its mechanics never stayed the same. I always saw Final Fantasy, from the main line to the spin offs, as the series SE tries to experiment with where as they update Dragon Quest as little as possible (albeit the progress is there). One doesn't even have to go far to see the identities of each entry by the look of its protagonist. Look at Cloud, WOL, and Clive, and there's a chance you get an idea of what the game is about.
I mean shit, I love FF7's materia system, but it didn't return til the remake. And frankly I was fine with that because I knew to expect that from the IP.

Oh, nothing, and it never brings that story point up of the PROTAGONIST ever again

I think one of FF16's biggest issues is that it's not at the bleeding edge of visuals. Every non-MMO game in the series since 7 had been at the absolute pinnacle of its era's rendering tech on release, so a lot of the appeal has simply been to buy/play a game that pushes your console to its absolute limits.
With FF16, the lighting is phenomenal, and the materials quality is some of the best I've ever seen, but the environments and characters/facial modeling aren't on the level of what Naughty Dog/Insomniac/Guerilla/SMS have done the last 5 or so years. The end result is a game that looks pretty good, with combat that's pretty good, and storytelling that's on the level of a pretty good streaming fantasy drama, but nothing genuinely best of class.
Final Fantasy 16 is like the gaming equivalent of the Amazon LotR series: big, flashy, expensive, but ultimately forgettable.

Forspoken started up around mid 2018 and Business division 2 was rebranded as luminous productions
In 2019 SE restructed the rest of the 11 business divisions into 4 units called Creative Business Units
CBU1 got BD1/BD3/BD4 which is FF7R/rebirth, KH3/4, Dissidia and other smaller games like SoP or TO, CCFF7R or the remasters
CBU2 got BD6/BD7/BD11 which are DQ, bravely, nier and octopath teams, and half of BD5 which was dq10

Difference is Inafune quit. It took tremendous effort for Konami to get rid of Kojima. Japanese have weird tax laws where they create and shut down companies to avoid taxes or whatever. The situation with inafune, sakaguchi and other devs is kinda different.
They were in charge of massive frick ups. So leaving is a way to pay for your mistakes.
SE, Capcom and other japanese companies are actually inclining in the last years, they are hiring more and more people, they need staff. So even if projects like forspoken were a failure, it's still 150 devs that SE can move to other CBUs under actual competent leaders to make new projects. It was not random engineers or programmers that made Forspoken be bad, but a set of choices that werent made by them.

Could have gotten it all eventually but the game was released in such a broken and incomplete state they wouldn't have been able to milk it for long. They put crucial plot info in the pre-release trailer that they never bothered to put into the royal edition as cutscenes
The game would never be fixed because Tabata never had any creative direction of it. At some point he was just making content based on what polls and fans asked. This might seem nice but shows a severe lack of direction when making a game.
He was going to create another 3rd alternative ending. Whe one of the best things about XV is how it ends, what a cowardly move.

C.your cooldown timer is literally right next to your character on screen so you don't have to constantly be looking at a menu.
