Which translation patch should I use for SNES version?
The 90's RPGe one is accurate to the Japanese script, but boring. The new one on GBA and future versions is wacky like a Saturday morning cartoon, but as a result is very different.

That's what I was thinking. But on the other hand, some of the humor is just really bad from what I've seen in videos.

Peak Wacky would be PS1 Translations.
It's the one where Faris has a pirate accent, Karlabos=Karl Boss, Wyvern=YBurn.
A lil' wacky is GBA, aka most recent official translation which I think the pixel remasters used. Like TMNT reference during Guido+Exdeath fight.
RPGe is least wacky.
It's my fav, but yeah sure, a bit boring.
Dejap is the same basically.
You play pixel remaster instead, the best version of all 6 games.
I would agree with you if it didn't have awful stuttering when you walk/run. It almost makes it feel like 30fps.
Pixel Remaster does a lot of things well but has some stuff that really gets under my skin. The speech bubbles over NPC's heads and the minimap really should be optional.
Nah. I can wait for them to get the Octopath treatment and then I'll mod the game to remove the DoF and blur filters

I played this game on PlayStation and enjoyed the cheesy translation aside from their decision to call Exdeath "X-Death," but even that is kinda endearing.

If you didn't spend hours wandering the Veldt to complete the Rage list or hours fighting dinosaurs or wandering up and down the tower to grind Espers you don't deserve to say you played FFVI.

I can only speak for 1,2,4,5, but all of those were definitely harder. The wall in 4 advance one shots you way more easier, for example. Also Golbez.

It's been a long time since I played the SNES translation, but I COASTED through that version. Advance's Gilgamesh and final boss were way harder in my experience. Are you going to say the old translation patch also reduced the difficulty somehow?

No it's not, Advance snowballs even harder than NES because you have a bunch of tools that were nonfuntional in the NES version like Temper and Haste and Black Mage functions.

The JP version is basically the Advance version except everything hits even harder. Spellcasting takes a lot longer too so Cagnazzo is actually a threat (or whatever boss it was that used reflect when you had Tellah)

The only part of the GBA version that's different is that some bosses in the early game are a little less overtuned and the postgame content (which is generally harder than the base game but also optional), there's no other differences otherwise.

I also don't understand this sentiment and feel like it is parroted by people who haven't seen what an ACTUAL "Saturday Morning Cartoon" script looks like. FFV is extremely restrained.

Working Designs were the best loc outfit of their time, and are infinitely preferable to the modern troonslator crowd we love to hate today.
Working Designs took the approach of writing things that were entertaining and worth seeing first and foremost. Today's translators put garbage in that NO ONE wants to see.

Let's be honest, people play the old Final Fantasy for the gameplay, not the plot. You could play the game in japanese with translated menus, look up the plot when you are done and wouldn't miss anything important.
Hell, even FFVI with its "rich" story is carried by Kefka, who was flanderized in the english translation.
Kefka is just some dolar store Joker from Batman.

I haven't played a single JRPG in my entire life that had a compelling plot.
