Zack will totally get his own party and essentially will be the "reverse side" of the story. Dyne instead of Barret, Zagan instead of Tifa, for example. Maybe somehow Sonon joins his party too, although that would rise questions about why Cid isn't playable, too. Not sure if Biggs would join since he's depicted as being too weak for the team.

Part of me thinks that the trilogy is a "sequel" but a more direct one than most people say (claiming that it's set after AC), namely that it all takes place during the final moment of OG FFVII when the lifestream gushes out (while covering the whole world) to confront meteor because holy came too late and the final scene where you see Aerith in the OG is the exact same scene you see at the beginning of Remake.

Insanely good, an incredible evolution of Remake's format. Always seems like a prologue of Rebirth based on how good it feels to play Yuffie. The bossfights are also great.
It also made Yuffie more connected with the main plot and made compelling.
It was a bit of a trend in 8 and 9 for significant female characters to be singers. It's not super out there for Aerith to be one, they could also explain it by saying that Ifalna used to sing it to her. But then they would be ripping straight from FF9.

The RPG elements of 7R are really smart, you can see how there are people there who understand the details and issues of rpg games. As you said, i love how every weapon can be useful depending on the context and what you want to do, it isnt just "number go up"

They did a perfect job balancing the elements between rpg and action, it has its flaws but they are definitely on the right track with this. They were developed in an almost similar timeframe. XVI's framework immediately started somewhere in 2017. They would be 3 years into development by then. If they were to lift VIIR's combat straight up, they'd have to redesign the gameplay from the very beginning. Then they have to think about how to incorporate the eikon powers into VIIRs design. It just won't work.

They were probably misguided by the fact that XIVgays were more than fine with XIVs bereft of any RPG mechanic and thought it'd work in XVI. Like seriously, if you look at all the faults in XVI, you can totally trace it back to XIV and its game design. Not saying that "hurr durr MMO guys shouldn't be allowed to make single player games", but like come the frick on. When it is a stupid idea, you should take the good ideas of a past entry and improve/fix them. Not just remove them completely. They tried so much to be different than 15 that failed in simple things that 15 did well, like party interactions.

Agreed. They could've at least implement those party commands, or real time passage, weather, camping and such. Those are genuinely good things from XV that I want them to incorporate into XVI. But instead we got XIII but action based. SE ever since XIII has this weird attitude about their previous entry. Because those games were lambasted and criticized heavily online, they almost want to avoid any semblance of similarity to the previous entry. Like in XV, Tabata removed the infiltration arc into a movie because they want to avoid starting the game in a linear fashion and just skip to the open world. It's these stupid ass desicions that has cost them. They were suppose to build off of their previous games. Now they scrapped everything for no reason.

I think the immediate reaction to the game from the media was just shocking to them. XIII became the target from media. The guy Phil Fish made fun of I think worked in XIII. It was a media pile on, XIII became the laughing stock of the west's gaming media. It killed the game's interest so hard that its sequel could barely reach half of the main title's sale, despite being better games with a less annoying cast. They still hasn't recovered from that shame. Then it repeats after XV was released, then the cycle starts again. If there's one thing that's good about Nomura, is that he's not that reactive towards outside influence, he'd keep making things he wants. He's a true auteur, Yoshi-P and Tabata feels more like a people's pleaser. Which fits more for a live service/GAAS style management than single releases.

I think this new trailer might be a ruse, they're playing on our nostalgia and want to see preorder numbers go high. the scene with her praying and black feathers could be some type of premonition or dream of the future, nu-sephiroth has completely different plans than the original one. even the theme song from uematsu "no promises to keep" is framed as farewell from her character with her singing it to cloud but in the game this song is probably about her and zack. zack will play a major role in part 2. wish they had the balls to go with japanese singer or at least they could give us the option to hear the song in japanese.

Aerith definitely have genuine feelings towards Cloud. You need to remember, Zack's pretty much dead to her for a couple of years (think it was 5 years) at least. While Cloud reminded her of Zack (his eyes), personality-wise Zack is not similar to Cloud at all. She had fun peeling away Cloud's persona. But not because he was behaving like Zack. She wants to see Cloud's true personality. It's remake that retcons all this by making that weird connection to Zack much stronger, despite them saying that Cloud wasn't copying Zack, multiple times.

No the best argument I can make for Remake is I have no interest in your argument so I'm not going to argue. And the farther away in the past the original FF7 game becomes the weirder and weirder it gets to pretend Nojima fricked your dog or whatever. I picture a 90-year-old getting misty eyed over Aerith's death (IT WAS AERIS IN MY DAY) while his turbo-zoomer grandchildren call him cringe and pass by in their hovercars.
I'm mostly disappointed that Cid and Vincent are out, especially since Vincent out of all of them is obtained right when you visit Cloud and Tifa's hometown, like right away lol. He's not some character at the end of Disc 1 or Disc 2, just the middle of Disc 1 to be frank. I'm still in pure copium that Vincent will be part of the DLC and be added to the playable main game post release.
Yuffie's partner was 100% a test for how Cid controls and moves in the DLC for the first game and I'm incredibly disappointed he's not gonna be playable in this one. But I gotta give them time to cook, these people are going to give me a Dragoon in an ARPG for the first time since Stranger of Paradise after all. And before SoP the only times we got a Dragoon in an action game-y format were Dissidia 012 and fricking Monster Hunter World by technicality.

The big somewhat self-contained story arcs after leaving Midgar and the Niebelheim flashback in Kalm are Junon, then Gold Saucer/Corel Prison, then Cosmo Canyon. After that Niebelheim has like literally just 5 lines of dialogue of main story, Mount Niebel has none. Rocket Town itself is also a very short arc. After that you are already at what can be considered "end-game" of FFVII Rebirth, as you only go to Gold Saucer for a couple of short scenes that includes the date, keystone, and Cait Sith's betrayal, then the Temple of the Ancients arc and finally Bone Village/Forgotten Capital for the finale.

This game has only combat and cool setpieces I feel. It'll be Ganker's game, but I doubt it'll be anywhere near "GOTY" conversation. Like AC6. It has a vocal and loyal following. I played it, it's fun, but if I'm being honest, at best it's a 7.5 to an 8. Magic looks cools, the hitstop and audio is punchy, but it's repetitive. Story is almost non-existent. You kinda have to force yourself to change vocations so that you won't get bored spamming the same moves over and over again or climbs and hit giant enemies on their weakspot or eye repeatedly. DD2 will definitely be an improvement, but I doubt the story will be any better. Setpieces looks much better ngl and they definitely added some things that they learned from MonHun and added into DD2.
Part of Dragon's Dogma's appeal is that it is bedrock solid on combat and partner AI, but everybody on the planet can tell it was shipped at maybe 35% completion. DD2 therefore gets a huge amount of buzz from being the exact same game but at least closer to the 100% mark.

They already confirmed that this will apply to Rebirth as well. Obviously this time it will translate into English better as well, though the translation issues from Remake still persist. The RPG elements of 7R are really smart, you can see how there are people there who understand the details and issues of rpg games. As you said, i love how every weapon can be useful depending on the context and what you want to do, it isnt just "number go up"
No matter how hard people shit on FF7R, One thing that I'm going to defend to death is the combat. They did a perfect job balancing the elements between rpg and action, it has its flaws but they are definitely on the right track with this. They were developed in an almost similar timeframe. XVI's framework immediately started somewhere in 2017. They would be 3 years into development by then. If they were to lift VIIR's combat straight up, they'd have to redesign the gameplay from the very beginning. Then they have to think about how to incorporate the eikon powers into VIIRs design. It just won't work.

They were probably misguided by the fact that XIVgays were more than fine with XIVs bereft of any RPG mechanic and thought it'd work in XVI. Like seriously, if you look at all the faults in XVI, you can totally trace it back to XIV and its game design. Not saying that "hurr durr MMO guys shouldn't be allowed to make single player games", but like come the frick on. Some design elements in that game will not work in a 40 hour single player, role playing game.

I think the immediate reaction to the game from the media was just shocking to them. XIII became the target from media. The guy Phil Fish made fun of I think worked in XIII. It was a media pile on, XIII became the laughing stock of the west's gaming media. It killed the game's interest so hard that its sequel could barely reach half of the main title's sale, despite being better games with a less annoying cast. They still hasn't recovered from that shame. Then it repeats after XV was released, then the cycle starts again. If there's one thing that's good about Nomura, is that he's not that reactive towards outside influence, he'd keep making things he wants. He's a true auteur, Yoshi-P and Tabata feels more like a people's pleaser. Which fits more for a live service/GAAS style management than single releases.

While Cloud reminded her of Zack (his eyes), personality-wise Zack is not similar to Cloud at all. She had fun peeling away Cloud's persona. But not because he was behaving like Zack. She wants to see Cloud's true personality. It's remake that retcons all this by making that weird connection to Zack much stronger, despite them saying that Cloud wasn't copying Zack, multiple times.

Yuffie's partner was 100% a test for how Cid controls and moves in the DLC for the first game and I'm incredibly disappointed he's not gonna be playable in this one. That's not true at all.
The big somewhat self-contained story arcs after leaving Midgar and the Niebelheim flashback in Kalm are Junon, then Gold Saucer/Corel Prison, then Cosmo Canyon. After that Niebelheim has like literally just 5 lines of dialogue of main story, Mount Niebel has none. Rocket Town itself is also a very short arc. After that you are already at what can be considered "end-game" of FFVII Rebirth, as you only go to Gold Saucer for a couple of short scenes that includes the date, keystone, and Cait Sith's betrayal, then the Temple of the Ancients arc and finally Bone Village/Forgotten Capital for the finale.

This game has only combat and cool setpieces I feel. It'll be Ganker's game, but I doubt it'll be anywhere near "GOTY" conversation. Like AC6. Good game, but because it's so gameplay focused, people just forgets about it later on. Games like DD2 is the kind of game "normies" won't talk about for long. Also, it doesn't have "FROMSOFTWARE" tag attached to it, so people can't overrate it.
My point is a Squarenix game will never get GOTY we are not in that era anymore, its literally impossible. If they want GOTY maybe they should learn a thing or two from this year's GOTY winner but I doubt it.

It has a vocal and loyal following. I played it, it's fun, but if I'm being honest, at best it's a 7.5 to an 8. Magic looks cools, the hitstop and audio is punchy, but it's repetitive. Story is almost non-existent. You kinda have to force yourself to change vocations so that you won't get bored spamming the same moves over and over again or climbs and hit giant enemies on their weakspot or eye repeatedly. DD2 will definitely be an improvement, but I doubt the story will be any better. Setpieces looks much better ngl and they definitely added some things that they learned from MonHun and added into DD2.
Part of Dragon's Dogma's appeal is that it is bedrock solid on combat and partner AI, but everybody on the planet can tell it was shipped at maybe 35% completion. DD2 therefore gets a huge amount of buzz from being the exact same game but at least closer to the 100% mark.

Reminder to everyone that the original VII was poorly translated and a lot of things were lost in translation:
* Aerith's speaking pattern in Japanese comes across as being tomboyish and rough, to match her low-class upbringing and contrast with her girly appearance. In English, her speech pattern is made playful and almost cutesy ("Hmmmmm!"), meaning a lot of the irony was lost on English-speaking fans. This is very rectified in the remake, where Aerith is allowed to talk in slang and even swear.
* After we find out the truth about Red XIII's personality, he goes from speaking in a pompous and condescendingly formal way (with the pronoun "watashi") to speaking like a child (using the very cute pronoun "oira"). In Japanese, this change affected every line, with his party dialogue in early optional events having alternatives depending on whether his sidequest had been finished or not. This change does carry over to the English script, but thanks to English' more limited palette when it comes to indicating social status and politeness, it's much less striking, with a lot of the changes just being trivial tweaks in phrasing ("That's the reactor, and the condor." / "That's the reactor. And the condor.")
* During Cloud's possession scenes, the Japanese version had him suddenly start speaking in a formal way to indicate that he'd become a completely different person. In the English version, he speaks in his usual way ("This place is about to get rough.") indicating that More than Mind Control might be involved.
*Back when he was a (comparatively) normal person, Sephiroth used the pronoun "ore" to refer to himself, but after he learned his origins and went psychotic he switched over to "watashi". The remake retains this, which creates an important moment that got lost in the English dub: at the very end of the game, when Sephiroth tries to convince Cloud to help him defy destiny, he uses "ore" as if he were sane again, which visibly shocks Cloud. However, it's a downplayed example since even without the pronouns his statement is still very surprising.”

They already confirmed that this will apply to Rebirth as well. Obviously this time it will translate into English better as well, though the translation issues from Remake still persist. I wish they'd make it so that the subtitles matched more closely the voice version, but I guess they don't want to make 4 versions of the entire script for each language.
