The reason everyone was standing still around Sephiroth doing frick all is because Cloud's perception of Sephiroth is some scary god man that paralyzes people with fear and they just stand there like sheep to be slaughtered. The reality is that Cloud was too concerned about his mother and Tifa to worry about Sephiroth butchering everyone else in the village and his focus wouldn't have been on any of them, which we saw from the actual Cloud on the ground two seconds from passing out in front of his burning home.

My only real complaint with this was the very end, when you need to hold both L2 and R2 to finish the sequence. The mayor and two other guys have Sephiroth at gunpoint, and all four of them just stand there until you pull a trigger. Then Sephiroth kills one of them...and the other two just stand around. He literally just murdered someone in front of you, why wouldn't you have authorization to open fire at that point?
They kept saying he's a war hero, but he didn't seem like it. They tried making him too cool and wienery, it just came off as douchey. Imagine if he would have acted like Steve Rogers during the "Star Spangled Man with a Plan" scene, embracing the adoration and being a gentleman. It would have made his heelturn more impactful. Instead, he already seems like a loony weirdo who could snap at any second.
they obviously are doing something with Cloud significantly different enough that they are dropping big hints about his fricked up memory well ahead of time, probably because its not going to be the big reveal it was in FF7.
The security grunt has Cloud's face and voice in the opening cutscene when he's complaining about motion sickness. Then when you talk about girlfriends with him here he has Zack's voice.
When you hobble to Cloud's burning house, the grunt is laying on the ground saying "Mo-" and then when Cloud gets blown backward by the house collapsing he lands in the same position the grunt was just in, who has now vanished.
Not having a jump button made this feel really shit compared to other games that do this. Pointing the stick and waiting for the animation just feels wrong.

However Sephiroth still managed to take me on a ride with his stuff about the real Cloud dying and this one being a Jenova clone that absorbed Tifa's memories, because I'd never seen people talk about what Jenova and the Sephiroth clones' deal was.
I'm real curious how things are going to play out this time, with Sephiroth seeming to instead go for telling Cloud that Tifa is the fake shapeshifter.

From what we have seen you can bring them to specific quests, and those dialogue choices also change them. There are some different tools to increase or decrease these bonds.

The twist is FE7 Remake/Rebirth are a dream made by the Planet, ala Zanarkand in FFX/ The Planet is in it's death throughs and it's own life is flashing before it's life in the dream. Sephiroth having refused to mingle with the Lifestream is still able to exert some influence but not enough to change anything on his own. So he's trying to influence the dream through the party. It's why there's the Zack timeline. They created it by basically splintering the dream at the end of Remake. Dream Sephiroth and Real Sephiroth have different goals. Dream Sephiroth is just an imitation playing the role he played in FE7 while Real Sephiroth is constantly pushing Cloud forward. Cloud is basically the fulcrum in which the current part of the dream hinges on and if he pushes him enough he can cause the dream to splinter more and the more it splinters the more likely he can hijack everything. The 3rd dream created at the end of Rebirth from Aerith not dying is one where Holy was never cast. Cloud is left stuck there are the end while Sephiroth takes his place.

My only real complaint with this was the very end, when you need to hold both L2 and R2 to finish the sequence. The mayor and two other guys have Sephiroth at gunpoint, and all four of them just stand there until you pull a trigger. Then Sephiroth kills one of them...and the other two just stand around. He literally just murdered someone in front of you, why wouldn't you have authorization to open fire at that point?
They kept saying he's a war hero, but he didn't seem like it. They tried making him too cool and wienery, it just came off as douchey. Imagine if he would have acted like Steve Rogers during the "Star Spangled Man with a Plan" scene, embracing the adoration and being a gentleman. It would have made his heelturn more impactful. Instead, he already seems like a loony weirdo who could snap at any second.

From what we have seen you can bring them to specific quests, and those dialogue choices also change them. There are some different tools to increase or decrease these bonds.

The twist is FE7 Remake/Rebirth are a dream made by the Planet, ala Zanarkand in FFX/ The Planet is in it's death throughs and it's own life is flashing before it's life in the dream. Sephiroth having refused to mingle with the Lifestream is still able to exert some influence but not enough to change anything on his own. So he's trying to influence the dream through the party. It's why there's the Zack timeline. They created it by basically splintering the dream at the end of Remake. Dream Sephiroth and Real Sephiroth have different goals. Dream Sephiroth is just an imitation playing the role he played in FE7 while Real Sephiroth is constantly pushing Cloud forward. Cloud is basically the fulcrum in which the current part of the dream hinges on and if he pushes him enough he can cause the dream to splinter more and the more it splinters the more likely he can hijack everything. The 3rd dream created at the end of Rebirth from Aerith not dying is one where Holy was never cast. Cloud is left stuck there are the end while Sephiroth takes his place.

He is sticking around because he made the promise, but she says that was not what she had in mind when the made the promise back then. There is a reason why everything about rebirth is so Aerith focused. She is the heroine of this story, man. Tifa will get more focus in part 3 but even then Aerith will still be a huge drive for Cloud as a character.
