They didn't mention it but it's obvious at this point. In the og game, Priscila got knocked out by Bottomswell, then you fought him, and after the fight, Cloud was performing CPR on Priscila. In Rebirth Yuffie is the one who takes the blow instead, then Cloud fights the monster and the demo ends before checking on Yuffie. I think that they didn't want to show it because they are simply saving the best for later.

I don't like Towers, but they don't seem to shit out millions of icons on the map so I can deal with them. The only real problem I have is that they will look ugly in environments.
FF7 was one of the major RPGs that pretty much was chock full of minigames to break up the grind and popularized the frick out of the idea. If anything Yakuza probably owes it to FF7 in that regard so it makes sense for it to reach back over.
Wall Market's shit like Squats, the Bike and Snowboarding were represented in the Gold Saucer, the Submarine and at least a couple weird QTE or gimmicky moments like the Huge Materia shit, that's off the top of my head

Tabata actually did some good work, he directed Crisis Core and Type-0, after all, but he just had to be brought on to repurpose Versus XIII into an asset flip, an unenviable task. I think the only area 16 genuinely fricked up on is exploration and side content variety. Combat, story, and boss battles were on point imo. Happy 7R doesn’t seem to be lacking in that area so far.
16's sins are all rooted in a lot of the problems 14 has, namely maps that serve no purpose other than to funnel you from quest objective to quest objective with nothing interesting to distract you from the beaten path, and the same formulaic quest design as the 14 MSQ (talk to quest giver, fast travel to location, kill trash, watch cutscene, fast travel back to quest giver, collect XP).
There's also a fundamental disconnect between how character action games try to limit how much player power can increase through upgrades/items in order to emphasize player skill as a factor, and how RPGs tend to reward you liberally with increased player power if you go off the beaten path and collect rare items/grind XP. It all results in the devs being reluctant to reward you with stuff through optional content that would make the game too easy. I did enjoy 16's combat, though.
I never played 14 but I’m not surprised some of those design philosophies slipped in. Unlike most other people though, I hope they get a shot at another mainline or spinoff game in the future and do what rebirth is doing right now. They can really take what they learned and make something even better. Also, because I really want to see what ryota suzuki does next for them.
I think the problems are all fixable with the right budget and maybe get some new blood on the team who haven't spent a large part of their careers working on MMO-style games. If anything, the FF7R team is proving that you can make engaging action RPGs without going full Devil May Cry.
Why do this rather than simply using the devs who know how to make single player games?

I think the only area 16 genuinely fricked up on is exploration and side content variety. Combat, story, and boss battles were on point imo. Happy 7R doesn’t seem to be lacking in that area so far.

16's sins are all rooted in a lot of the problems 14 has, namely maps that serve no purpose other than to funnel you from quest objective to quest objective with nothing interesting to distract you from the beaten path, and the same formulaic quest design as the 14 MSQ (talk to quest giver, fast travel to location, kill trash, watch cutscene, fast travel back to quest giver, collect XP).
There's also a fundamental disconnect between how character action games try to limit how much player power can increase through upgrades/items in order to emphasize player skill as a factor, and how RPGs tend to reward you liberally with increased player power if you go off the beaten path and collect rare items/grind XP. It all results in the devs being reluctant to reward you with stuff through optional content that would make the game too easy. I did enjoy 16's combat, though.
I never played 14 but I’m not surprised some of those design philosophies slipped in. Unlike most other people though, I hope they get a shot at another mainline or spinoff game in the future and do what rebirth is doing right now. They can really take what they learned and make something even better. Also, because I really want to see what ryota suzuki does next for them.

I think the problems are all fixable with the right budget and maybe get some new blood on the team who haven't spent a large part of their careers working on MMO-style games. If anything, the FF7R team is proving that you can make engaging action RPGs without going full Devil May Cry.

There were lots of interesting things shown. Problem is the XVtroons are making it look like XV did it first so why are people praising VIIRebirth and not XV.
They showed a massive map, so big you had to scroll in all four directions when zoomed all the way out, and that was just the Kalm area. Lots of minigames, including piano and a new card game. Ubisoft towers and lots of points of interest, and Chadley's research is tied to these activities instead of combat challenges.
You know, the map structure in Rebirth makes me hopeful that they'll make Highwind actually controllable. Fingers crossed. I was already doubtful they'll do crossing rivers using the buggy/chocobo, but they've done that AND swimming. And also the Tiny Bronco.
I was doubtful they'd let you actually drive the Tiny Bronco around but it's been confirmed this game is fricking perfect
considering we've straight up seen flying with chocobos in the trailers, i believe they will do the highwind right.
Of course it will be controllable. Part 3 is supposed to SURPASS THIS. If they don't deliver on this one thing that they should be easily able to tell most fans are expecting them to do, at the final stage then we wouldn't get what we got in Rebirth in the first place.
Nomura got kicked out of XV/Versus XII exactly BECAUSE he was "too ambitious" with his plans for the airship he had. Now he finally can go all out with it without management stepping in, so there is just no way anyone can stop him from making his concept a reality now.
