It is impossible to do multiverse well, because even if you limit it heavily, as long as it is at all possible there exists no reason for the characters to EVER not be striving for that goal. Once multiverse travel is unlocked literally all problems just go away and so do all stakes and all tension.
So why is humanity, IRL, not striving for it now then?

The only actual legit criticism about the battle system I have ever seen is that the the stagger bar resets during phase transitions of boss battles. Everything else is usually just "it's bad because it's not turn based!" which is just the critic's personal preference. That or it's just "the battle system is bad!" without specifying what about is bad.
Other than that even those who say they dislike the story for one reason or another usually say that they do like the hybrid battle system.
As for the Story, again, people can't point to actual flaws of the story just some surface-level comparison to other stories. 99% is just that it "feels" like KH or "feels" like capeshit to them. That's usually a sign that the person in question never even tried paying attention to the story.
For many it's just a kind of cope because they are in actuality ultra curious about how it continues but they don't want to admit that they were hooked so they react with such shallow comparisons instead.

To be fair no one knows the nature of these worlds. One of the most popular theories i see being repeated is how Zack's world is a type of lifestream world. So saying people knew it was always a multiverse is a weird statement
We knew because in the ending of Remake after the time jannies were defeated the Zack section shows different mascot dog. Why point out the different dog if it didnt mean anything?
Because it could be just a narrative tool to point out how they're not in the same "space"

Regardless of what kind of world it is, narratively there's no reason to introduce it unless the worlds interact. So this merging of worlds comes as zero surprise.

My issue with that Zack world being an actual world is because it undoes his death and i think this is absolute garbage. I hate when stories do that. So i would rather have him helping them through some type of lifestream dimension than actually just coming back from death without any issues.

I think as of 2023's Fanfest in Tokyo, it went up to 32 million registered users, but I could be wrong.
