Maybe he meant some of the main story feeling like side quests? (such as the part early on where you need to kill several enemies and report back) There weren't even that many actual side quests, fitting for how hallway-like the game is.
I really enjoyed the combat but the pacing was pretty awful and loaded with filler, in particular the entire chapter where you're chasing that one enemy through the sewer/dungeon/whatever to retrieve a valuable item.
nah it probably is shills. not sure if it's for yakuza 8 or persona but holy frick is sega moronic for releasing 2 turn based jrpgs within the same god damn week. have they not learned from square enix's moronation?
It tried to stretch 5 hours of content into 40, the source material fundamentally did not allow for it, and the content they added to fill space was not even close to being on par with the quality of the thing they were remaking.
>FF turn based >anything but braindead
The moron is you for even pretending FF's turn based combat is even good. It's called babbys first JRPG for a reason.

Ahh... yes. My baby's toy is better than your baby's toy. What a great autism.
Everything.
Forcing the salty KH director to make a (not-)remake for a game he personally loathed was the first major mistake. Appealing to Amerimutt SJWs was the final nail.
These discussions are completely sterile. Everyone just gives the same stupid reasons as to why they like it or not and nobody cares to listen or exchange. Waste of a thread.
>completely sterile.
Just like you're """dad""", but that's where stepped in, fricked you're mom, she got preggers and told your """dad""", he was so happy that she couldn't break it to him that you weren't his kid.
Do a DNA test or simply look at your facial features. You're """dad""" ain't you're dad, scro.
>Set FPS to 30
Shit. >Set FPS to 60
Still shit. >Set FPS to 120
Now it works.
Anyway, FF7 needed a remake due to the wide variety of flaws in the original, such as the translation and unsightly out of combat characters. Some people are fine with both, but the problem with shitty translation is you get the wrong impression of what they were going for. With the remake they do retcon some things but now I also have a much clearer idea of what they were going for. A good example is Tifa and Cloud's relationship.
Also, I generally dislike JRPGs and if Squeenix is going to turn the FF series into action RPGs/DMC clones, I am absolutely along for that ride. Didn't they hire someone known for DMC for FF16? Can't wait for the PC port.
Three main problems: >Time janny stealth sequel moronation. Makes the compilation look good by comparison and has nothing to do with the spirit of FF7. >Frequent censorship and compromises to the original vision, does not feel like FF7. >Midgar stretched into a full game rivaling the original in length. Padding used in place of expansion.
Rebirth is looking to fix the third complaint but the others will remain.
>Time janny stealth sequel moronation. Makes the compilation look good by comparison and has nothing to do with the spirit of FF7.
This is the biggest issue with the game. The story is pants-on-head moronic. It is full of dumb Kingdom Hearts shit only Nomura could write, and it shares zero themes with the original's story. My favorite part is where Barret gets saved by a time janny, thanks it for saving him, and then an hour later he decides to go into Sephiroth's portal to destroy the arbiters of fate for no reason and just says "It wouldn't be the first time I spit in fate's face" or something like that. It's so stupid it's hilarious.
The story is bad even without the jannies. The very first level turns AVALANCHE from terrorists to people who harmlessly disable reactors with zero civilian casualties, so Shinra blows the reactor instead. The platefall is hilariously tone-deaf with the music choice, Cait Sith out of nowhere, Wedge swatting at ghosts while trying to save cats, and nobody dies. Jenova is heavily censored, both her appearance and the blood trail and the party doesn't get captured so Sephiroth's introduction into the plot is completely flaccid. I could probably go on for hours.
>Bad graphics aside from the characters >Misunderstands the source material (daytime sections on the bottom plate) >combat is horribly designed (just scan, back out for free, equip enemy's weakness, restart the fight) >not a whole story >terrible side quests >bloated
It's a huge waste of time. Exactly what Square Enix wanted. There's just zero reason to play the game.
>calls it a remake >it's actually a sequel/reboot >"What went wrong?"
Gee I really wonder
Granted, whispers were far from being the only problem. But they're so massive that removing them would improve the game by orders of magnitude.
All I wanted was the old game with modern graphics, voice acting, and quality of life improvements. If they were able to flesh out the story and characters a bit I wouldn't mind either. I wouldn't even mind the new combat system even though I preferred the old one. But that's not what we got. There is a line between updating and old game and making literal fanfiction. And it's not a fine line at all. The new story elements are of poor quality and doesn't mesh with the old writing, and the old parts are executed worse than they were in the original. The pacing is awful and the meta narrative disrespectful both the original and the fans.
This travesty isn't Final Fantasy 7, neither literally nor in spirit. It's an uninspired mockery set in the Final Fantasy 7 compilation, and I didn't like any of those entries either.
The meta is the worst thing, the death knell. Without it, I could've said, like I do with XII, that while I don't like it, it can be good for another with completely different tastes. However with meta it can never be anything but disingenuous.
FFVII is no longer a story about anything. It's now just a product for people who want to see the characters waved around in front of their eyes in a consequence free world that goes on forever and ever like the MCU.
>turned entire game into action slop and side quests
i wonder
I do not like turn based shit, no matter how many awards BG3 gets, I'm never fricking playing it.
So then you already didn't like FF7, and there's already plenty of Final Fantasy games they make just for you.
Time jannies.
>action
Yes, good
>slop
buzzword
>side quests
I'll give you that much. It's kinda gay.
Aren't the side quests skipable? I literally only did one the whole game

Complaining about slop being a buzzword is also pretty gay.
>Complaining about slop being a buzzword is also pretty gay.
But it is a buzzword, you spear-chucking moon cricket.
Anything can be made into a buzzword.
Sure are a lot of FF7R threads right now. Some discord group get upset or what even is this?
dumb frick the new game is coming out soon
no it isn't queer
The anti shill campaign for FF7R2 is starting. 2 weeks before P3R comes out no less, funny how that works.
>muh "Whataboutism" meme
You'd be popular within the VatBlack person circles.

I loved it

uhhh demo soon everyone heckin loves sephy-kun and will buy the game for him
They changed way too much, it was like the MCU, it's disrespectful to the source
Nobody asked for a button-mashing action game. Tetsuya Nomura is a buttfricking homosexual
>xhe didn't like the combat
lol
lmao
Let me guess, you prefer turn-based?
Yeah that's how Final Fantasy used to be before you were born, I know it's hard to imagine
Born in '83 here, I went through my turn-based RPG phase when I was in high school, mostly grew out of it by college. Try again?
You grew out of a gameplay mechanic to embrace a much weaker version you saw popularized in Kingdom Hearts? LMAO The frick you did.
Frick no, I got into Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry, and Shinobi 2002, as well as shmups and fightans. Basically, the anti-turn-based.

Everything.

Changed Story. Changed Gameplay. Changed Side Quests. None for the better.
The developer that created FF7 doesn't exist anymore.
They completely fricked with the story and added a ton of filler fetch quests. Other than that, it's fine.
My sentiments exactly. The Jessie filler, the sunlamp shit really fricked the pacing
Oh shit, I think that's exactly where I put the game up for good.
Waited too long. If they had released it in 2007 for the 10th anniversary it would have been one of the biggest games of that generation.
It also would have been made by completely different people. So that would have helped it a lot too.
These discussions are completely sterile. Everyone just gives the same stupid reasons as to why they like it or not and nobody cares to listen or exchange. Waste of a thread.

I don't think so, Tim.

Apart from the boring side quests nothing.

They made a rebuild of evangelion of ff7 instead of the remake they told us they were making
Nothing, really. It's a great game.
